Chapter Text
Peace, that’s what the galaxy and the Skywalker family were hoping to see now that the clone wars were over and changes in the galaxy were taking way. For the Skywalker family, Anakin became a jedi Master after capturing Palpatine and there was much work to do to get the Jedi Order back in...well..order. Meanwhile Padmé gave birth to two healthy babies, Luke and Leia and began to help pick a representative for the New Republic.
But a life in secrecy has a cost.
Luke and Leia stayed with Padmé as kids, and made sure that as far as the public knew, the father wasn’t in the picture.
But Master Skywalker always made sure they were taken care of just fine. Stopping by after missions and sending holo messages to his wife and kids.
That was until the day Luke got in trouble and had his lothcat plush taken away; placed on the tallest shelf.
“I know, Padmé, but he’s only five” Anakin pleaded with his wife “ it was a mistake”
“Don’t make me the bad guy here, Ani. He knows not to play with your lightsaber, he’ll get it back tomorrow, And from now on, you need to find a better place for this” She said earnestly, throwing her husband the lightsaber without batting an eye. And Anakin knew from the look in her eye that there was no bargaining on this one.
“Sorry kid, but she has a point, she always does” he says as he brushes Luke’s blonde hair out of the baby blue eyes that are identical to his. “Why don’t you go find Leia?”
But Luke’s tiny heart was not swayed, as he continued to stare up at the toy with rancor tears streaming down his cheeks and Anakin let out a tired sigh as he went to the kitchen with Padme, knowing there’s nothing that will change the mind of his dedicated boy.
“I swear if his eyes get any bluer, punishments are going to get harder to deal out” Padmé admits when the couple is finally alone “One day you’re going to have to punish him instead”
“How about a deal? I’ll handle Leia's tantrums, you deal with Luke’s?” Anakin jokes, wrapping his arms around his wife, nosing her ear.
“Anything that’ll keep Leia from destroying the house, I have no idea how she gets into so many things” Padmé laughs, turning in Anakin’s arms to cup his face, thumbing at the scar by his eye. “And to think, we almost didn’t have this” her eyebrows drawn in, scrunching at the thought of the final moments of the clone wars. A moment of stale silence follows in suit, and before either can utter another word, a crash disrupts the quiet moment and sends both parents in a frenzy to the living room.
Anakin shoves past vases and tables, bursting into the living room, only to have his foot catching on the yellow and red rug, sending the jedi crashing to the floor as Padmé stumbles to a stop behind him. “Anakin!” She calls, half way through pulling out her blaster.
“It’s okay! I’m fine!” Anakin claims, jumping up to run the rest of the way to the twin’s room, lightsaber out, seconds away from being ignited, only to meet eye to eye with his daughter.
“Daddy?” Leia asks, standing between him and the door, her eyes watching the lightsaber in his hold.
“Leia, princess, what was that noise” Anakin asks, trying to calm his racing heart. His daughter looks at him, then down to her light brown boots.
“What noise?”
...And for a second Anakin is dumbfounded. His sweet princess was trying to gaslight him. They both stay quiet, awkward silence following quickly as Padmé comes up behind
“What was it?” She questions, trying to push aside the weird father daughter interaction she just stumbled in on. “Leia?” she asks, only for the girl to huff and cross her arms as tight as they would go. Both parents brows raise at the sass. “All yours Ani” Padmé says and simply shrugs as she holsters her blaster. “time to make good on that deal”
All Anakin can do is sigh as he puts his lightsaber away. He does this the only way he knows how, assessing the situation like he would on the battlefield. “Leia report, are you hurt at all? What was that crash and wheres your brother?” He asks, getting straight to the important stuff.
This gets the brunette to uncross her arms “I’m fine” she mumbles
“And?” Anakin tries to prompt but he quickly finds out that he was already pushing it when she once again clamps up. “And I thought Ahsoka could be snippy” He mutters, rubbing his neck. “Fine then, I’ll just see for myself”
“No!” Leia shouts, grabbing her father’s leg in an attempt to stop him, but it does little to slow the jedi down. “Don’t look!”
And when Anakin opens the door he can see why. The entire room looks like a B1-series battle droid had a battle with children’s toys. And in the middle was Luke holding his loath cat plush as tightly as he dared.
“Luke Ben Amidala!” Padmé scolds their son, who quickly shoved the toy behind his back.
“What in the force happened in here?” Anakin asks, as he carefully steps around the mess.
“The force” Leia whispers, hiding her hands behind her back. Both Anakin and Padmé quickly turn to their daughter, silently a light bulb went off.
“Did you know?” Anakin asks quietly, just above a whisper, turning to his wife.
“Of course not!” Padmé quickly denies, even quieter “How could we have missed this?”
“They’re still young, it could have happened at any time” Anakin reasons with a shrug. As the young parents debated with each other, they missed the subtle looks between the twins, and a silent decision that was made between the two. “I was so sure it wouldn’t happen to them” Anakin insisted
“It’s not a curse Ani, it just makes things a bit...different” Padme resolves
“You’re right, you’re always right...” Anakin advocated as he took her hands into his “So what do we do?”
☆☆☆
Luke once again had his toy taken away, much to his protests, and Leia admitted to using the force to get Luke's toy, along with other situations that had previously caused Padmé and Anakin much confusion.
They tested both children of their meticlorions, slightly surprised to find that Luke had a little, enough that he could use the force if trained. While Leia’s was off the charts, erratic, much like Anakin’s was.
“It’s bee a long night, why don’t we all get some sleep and figure this out in the morning” Padmé suggests, holding a half asleep Leia as Anakin picked up Luke.
Bedtime went quicker that night than any other. No whining, no bargaining, just goodnights and kisses on the cheek.
And just like that, Padmé and Anakin were both lying restless in their own bed.
“I don’t want them to become Jedi, they won’t have the freedom they need, the jedi order is...complicated”
“So I’ve heard” Padmé says holding Anakin close. “But the council will find out eventually, what will we do then, will we even have a choice?”
“I’m not sure, the council is fragile right now” Anakin explains “And what about Luke then? He could live a normal life, he doesn’t need to go to the academy” Anakin points out, Padmé sits up.
“Ani, we can’t separate them” Anakin quickly sits up with her.
“Then what should we do Padmé?” There wasn’t time to answer that question as their door creeks open. “Leia, princess, what are you doing up?”
“I wanna be a Jedi” Leia insists, stomping her foot, and slowly Luke came into view as well
“Both of you” Padmé sighs, getting out of bed, with Anakin not far behind.
“Princess, you would have to go by yourself, Luke can’t go with you” Anakin brought up, silently hoping this would derail Leia’s sudden interest in the idea.
“We know” She pouts, willfully, holding tight to Luke's hand.
Anakin and Padmé shared a look, and just like that, it was less than a week before Leia was going off to the temple with Anakin to be raised as a jedi. Leaving both Anakin and Padmé worried about what that would mean for the twins, being separated.
Little did they know, everything had gone exactly as planned. Even if that plan had been a poor one.
