Sally Trailer

Summary:

The heartwarming story of a voice actress, a character she voiced, and the bond they develop.

Notes:

For those of you familiar with Bendy and/or my BATIM stories, you can probably guess who inspired this story.

Work Text:

Carrie (v/o): My name is Carrie Wallis. For ten years, I’ve been a voice actress at Monarch Animation.

(Shot of camera footage of Carrie giving an interview.)

Carrie: My favorite role? That’s easy: Sally Supernova from SOAR Brigade.

(Shot of Carrie and her fellow VA/best friend Renee Kelly speaking with a grandfatherly-looking gentleman.)

Carrie (v/o): Gene Guinness, my boss, was kind of strange, but he was nice.

(Cut to Gene’s son Leo standing before the staff, with a mournful look on his face. Judging from everyone else’s faces, he’s given them some sad news.)

Carrie (v/o): When he died, it was a real blow to all of us.

(Clip of Gene’s memorial service, with various people speaking, including Carrie, Renee, and Carrie’s boyfriend Peter Besch, one of the animators.)

Carrie (v/o): But what really shocked me...

(Cut to several of those who were at the service watching a recording of Gene. While he is clearly in bad health, he’s still got a reassuring smile on his face.)

Gene: And to Carrie Wallis, I leave something very special. Or perhaps I should say...someone very special.

(Cut to Carrie opening a door to see a young girl, who looks like she’s a three-dimensional cartoon character, sitting in an armchair and fidgeting anxiously. Upon seeing her, Carrie’s eyes widen.)

Carrie (v/o): ...was his parting gift to me.

Carrie: Sally?

(The girl—Sally—looks up, her expression turning to one of shyness and uncertainty.)

Sally: Mom?

(Cut to Carrie and Peter standing in a doorway, watching Sally say goodbye to Oscar, Adam, and Ruby, her costars on SOAR Brigade. Carrie has a nervous look on her face.)

Carrie: I don’t know how to be a mother.

Peter: You’re not going to just turn your back on her, are you?

Carrie: Of course not. Sally meant a lot to me even when she was just a cartoon character.

(Shots of Carrie and Sally as they get adjusted to being mother and daughter. Carrie is clearly taking to motherhood quite well, as evidenced by the various happy moments. Cut to Ian Montalban, director of rival animation studio Veintisiete, catching sight of Sally. Shot of Montalban watching an episode of SOAR Brigade, scrutinizing Sally’s character intensely.)

Montalban: Yes, she’ll make the perfect addition to the park.

(Shot of Oscar and Kenny Merritt, another Monarch VA, snooping around Veintisiete. Cut to Kenny handing a set of photos to Carrie, Peter, Renee, and Leo. Said photos show the characters of Veintisiete’s cartoons—Coby, Baskit, Janis, Drix, and Morrison—in cages or on display like animals at a zoo or theme park.)

Carrie: How could anyone be so cruel?

Leo: Bad enough he does this to his own characters, but now he wants Toons he doesn’t have the rights to?

Sally: We have to stop him!

(Oscar, Adam, and Ruby appear in the doorway.)

Adam: Not without us.

(Shot of Ruby unlocking Baskit’s cage. As she steps back to let him walk out, a goon tries to grab her, only for Baskit to knock him out with a cartoon mallet. Shot of Sally and ADAM using blasters to knock out more goons. Cut to Oscar, Adam, Peter, and Kenny getting into a van, with Oscar taking the driver’s seat.)

Oscar: Hang on tight!

(The van speeds off, Peter and Kenny holding on for dear life. Shot of Ruby kicking down a door, Renee standing behind her. Shot of Carrie standing protectively in front of Sally, holding a baseball bat as a pair of goons advance on her. One of them tries to get around her, but she hits him with the bat.)

Carrie: You can’t have my daughter!

(Shot of Carrie running down a hallway. Shot of Sally helping Carrie to her feet. Shot of Carrie and Sally hugging.)

Sally: I love you, Mom.

(Cut to title card.)
