"Some things are just simply out of your control." The crouching girl was reminded. "You may be the rain shaman but some storms are meant to be weathered. It is inevitable."
It was like a freak accident when the weather itself turned against its shaman. The heavy rain bore its weight across the land as the winds snapped overhead branches and flung all that it could rip from the ground. The shaman was shocked and did not know how best to respond.
As the storm picked up, a howl could be heard. It was one that drew the attention of many. It caused confusion, fear and perhaps even anger. It was all too easy to make the situation worse.
It was only until the storm quietened to a standstill when the shaman felt like she could move. It then became her responsibility to retrieve the broken pieces left behind. She stiffened up.
The debris was littered all over. At her feet, in the bushes and up the river. The little shaman has been curling into herself since, looking even smaller than before as she hunched closer to the ground, collecting bits and pieces into her arms. Everything felt so heavy.
"Kobo, raise your head, please."
Before, it felt like a massive weight had been pressing down on her head.
Right now, at this moment, it felt like her neck had become frozen solid. Like it would snap if she looked up.
The possibilities of what she might see ran through her mind and struck her with fear. However, deep down, she knew she eventually had to look.
The dark, ominous clouds had only just begun to loosen up when she dared to peek. Her back, however, remained hunched. It hurt and stung and felt like it would be stuck that way forever.
"Whenever a storm ends, a rainbow follows right behind."
The skies had remained blackened no matter where she looked, until her blurry vision fell upon the singular parting between the clouds.
The purest rays of light had pierced through the darkness.
"It won't be easy to spot every single little droplet right now, I know. It would take your eyes some time to adjust after being in the dark. But you are everyone's rain shaman. We believe that you will succeed eventually. We have faith."
Normally, no one could have spotted the droplets. They were so, so tiny. Some of them might even think themselves invisible. But collectively, they rallied and stayed for their beloved rain shaman.
"Ayo mandi!" "Mandi, mandi!" "Mandi sekarang!"
Each little rain drop, holding hands like flickering fairy lights, began to bathe in the golden rays of the sun. It was just as warm as the rain shaman herself.
"Washa, washa, wash!"
Gradually, they began to shimmer in the prismatic colours of red and green and blue and many more. Together, they formed a great rainbow that could be seen across the land.
"We will always be there for you too, Kobo. Our rainbow will forever follow right behind."
