Work Text:

Renfield Turnbull wiped some spilled liquid off the kitchen counter and then vacuumed the room from border to border after baking Christmas cookies in the Canadian Consulate’s kitchen. Diefenbaker gave Turnbull his “hungry like the wolf” look and added a hopeful wag.

Church-bells nearby sounded the hour and Renfield began to hum “Christmas Bells are Ringing.” After humming a few bars, he burst into song: “Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong! Christmas bells are ringing!”

Waiting for the cookies to cool, he segued into one of his favorite Christmas songs: “Santa Drives a Pickup”. Recalling a previous Christmas-time of singing it at the Consulate, he did a few dance steps around the kitchen while singing “Oh Santa drives a pickup, the reindeers ride in back, look out for that fat man, he’ll be comin’ down your stack.” Dief snagged a cookie.
