Summary:

After admitting his eating disorder Charlie's parents call the one person that can help their son and that's their older son.

 

Buck shows up for his baby brother and takes him back to L.A so he can get the help he needs.

Notes:

I love the show hearstopper and the books and I love both 9-1-1 and S.W.A.T and after watching season 3 of heartstopper I wanted to do a story and 9-1-1 popped into my head and then my editor came up with S.W.A.T to be added do here is the first chapter.

Chapter 1

October 3, 2024 England, United Kingdom.

 

Spring Household.

 

Jane and Julio Spring were sitting in the kitchen and they had clearly been up for hours as they looked tired and they had bags under their eyes but they had not been able to sleep the night before when their younger son Charlie had told them he had an eating disorder and he needed help.

 

Jane knew she had failed as a mother as she never took the time to actually listen or pay attention to her son and it broke her heart knowing that she could have done more if she wasn't being a nag.

 

Julio knew his wife was struggling with what they learned and he was feeling like a failure himself but he wasn't going to sit there and feel sorry for himself no he was going to do help his son and he got up and went to the house phone and picked it up and phoned up Charlie's school and told them that he won't be in for the next few days.

 

Jane gets up from the table and she goes and sees if her son is awake.

 

Charlie is in his room and for the first time he has had a good night's sleep and he can honestly say that he knows things are going to get better.

 

There is a knock on Charlie's bedroom door and the 15 year old can hear his mum asking if she can come in.

 

Charlie thinks for a few minutes and he makes his mind and allows her to come in.

 

After getting her son's approval she opens the door and walks in and she goes and sits at his desk and asks him how he is doing?.

 

“Mum it's not your fault so please don't blame yourself” Charlie says.

 

“Of course it's my fault you were struggling and instead I just nag you and have a go at you where I should have listened and let you speak to me” Jane says.

 

“I didn't want anyone to know and I didn't want to face it” Charlie says.

 

“Sweetheart I'm your mother it's my job to look.after you and let you feel like you can talk to me when you need to but I didn’t and I'm sorry for that” Jane says and she gets up and leans down and hugs her son.

 

Charlie feels like a little kid again and he loves that feeling and he feels safe.

 

Few minutes later both Charlie and Jane break apart.

 

“Your father has phoned your school and told them you won't be in for a few days so when your ready to come downstairs that's when we will talk” Jane says and she gets back up and leaves Charlie's room.

 

Charlie gets out of bed and he goes to his closest and gets changed and then he goes to his desk and turns on his phone that's been charging all night and while his phone is turning on he looks at a picture that has three people in it and two of them are Charlie and his sister Tori and they are standing with a second male who is their big brother Evan.

 

Charlie's mum and dad were both 16 when they had Evan and not many people thought they would make it as teenage parents but they proved everyone wrong and when Evan moved to America the family were heartbroken but they were so happy that he was doing amazing and he came home when he had vacation time and he paid for them all to come out to Los Angeles to see him and they all stayed with him and his boyfriend who was a police officer for the LAPD.

 

Charlie remembers the day this photo was taken and whenever he is feeling down he will look at it and smile as it was one of the best days of his life.

 

Charlie looks at his phone and it's turned on and he has a message from his boyfriend Nick asking how he is doing and Charlie says he is ok and that his dad phoned the school and they know he won't be in for a few days and Nick texts back saying he is here for him.

 

Charlie texts back saying he knows and he loves him and then he puts his phone in his pocket and goes downstairs.

 

When Charlie reaches the kitchen he sees that his sister is at the table and she smiles at him and he smiles back.

 

Charlie takes a seat and both his parents take a seat as well and they all sit in silence.

 

“I want to get help and I want to do it professionally,” Charlie says.

 

“OK. Me and your dad can look into getting you a doctor's appointment and then hopefully they can help” Jane says.

 

“Things may not change overnight but it's good you have asked for help and as long as you do that then we can help you” Jane says.

 

“You don't have to be scared or worried about asking for help,” Tori says.

 

Charlie appreciates that he has a family that loves him and he knows he has done the hardest thing and that's to ask for help.

 

“Can we talk about something else for a little while please as I don't want to bring everyone down?” Charlie asks.

 

“Well Evan phoned last night and he and Hondo have said that we can always spend Christmas with them and if not then they will try to get some time off but that's unlikely” Jane says.

 

When Evan came out to his parents they were supportive and told him that they love him no matter what and when they met Hondo they were impressed but what really won Buck's parents over is when Hondo spoke to Charlie and he told their younger son that he can always go to him and he will be there for Charlie no matter what.

 

Charlie,Tori and Buck are all really close and they have always made time for one another and when on the phone he makes sure to ask his siblings about things that they have previously spoken about so he doesn't miss anything that is connected to that conversation.

 

“How is Hondo enjoying being team leader?” Tori asks.

 

“He is struggling but he can handle it” Jane says.

 

“I'm just going to the toilet” Charlie says and he runs upstairs and gets to the bathroom and he locks the door behind him and falls to the ground.

 

Tori runs after her brother and she sits in front of the bathroom door.

 

“Charlie I'm out here so take your time and when you're ready to come out then that's fine with me as I'm not going anywhere” Tori says.

Chapter 2

Summary:

Buck finds out that something is wrong with his brother so he informs Bobby.

 

Buck explains more about the UK to Eddie,Hen and Bobby.

 

Chimney shows how superior he thinks he is.

Notes:

This chapter I have explained the UK school system and what ages you are when you start school and i have also explained the currency that is used in the UK.

Firehouse 118 Los Angeles.

 

Buck walks into work the next morning and he has this weird feeling and he can't seem to get rid of it.

 

“Morning Buck.” Bobby says as he walks past the man.

 

“Morning Bobby.” Buck says and he walks towards the locker room.

 

Bobby had come into the firehouse early as he needed to do a few things and people had asked for some vacation so he had to go through who's request was getting accepted and who was getting declined.

 

Buck enters the locker room and he sees Eddie getting changed and he waves to him and Eddie waves back and then Eddie leaves.

 

It didn't take long for Buck to get changed and once he had finished tying up his laces of his boots he walked out of the locker room.

 

Hen was in the loft and she was going through some paperwork and she looked frustrated.

 

“What's got you pulling that face Henrietta?.” Buck asks.

 

Hen looks at her best friend and she hates it when people call her by her full name but she knows Buck says it in a caring way.

 

“Denny has picked the family holiday and it's not somewhere we know.” Hen says.

 

“Where has he picked?.” Buck asks.

 

“Kent, England, United Kingdom.” Hen says.

 

“No way I'm from Kent.” Buck says and his English accent slips out a little bit.

 

Hen and Eddie knew that Buck wasn't from America but he can always hide his British accent really well so when he speaks with it they find it weird but also interesting.

 

“I still find it weird when you speak in your British accent.” Hen says.

 

Buck laughs at that and he knows that his friends mean it in a nice way.

 

When Buck told people that his parents had him at 16 they were shocked and they admired the parents for still finishing their education whilst having a baby and then they had 2 more kids afterwards.

 

“So give me the lowdown on Kent?.” Hen asks.

 

“Well we are 6 hours ahead of you guys and we use pounds as currency and the tax is already included so you pay for the actual price it says on the ticket.” Buck says.

 

“What's the education system like?.” Bobby asks.

 

“So you have primary school and that's 4 to 11 and then 11 to 16 you have secondary school and 16 to 18 you have 6th form and then you have college or university afterwards but you can go on to college at 16 instead depending on grades you have got after your GCSE’S at the end of year 11.” Buck says.

 

“Wow, totally different from here. How well did you do Buck?.” Hen asks.

 

“I was a straight A student and I got very good grades.” Buck says.

 

“Why does that not surprise me.” Hen says.

 

“So did you go to university?.” Bobby asks.

 

“I did and I have a few different degrees.” Buck says.

 

“We're your parents strict about that?.” Eddie asks.

 

“No they weren't strict but they did remind me that I can do anything I set my mind to and they just wanted better for me.” Buck says.

 

“Do you speak to your parents often?.” Hen asks.

 

“I do and they have met Hondo and my little brother is gay as well so they are very accepting.” Buck says.

 

“That's good. Ok I am not that nervous now.” Hen says.

 

“Tell you what Hen I'll come over to yours and help you and Karen plan more and give you more information.” Buck says.

 

“Thank you Buck, that would be really useful. I'll get you something for your troubles.” Hen says.

 

“Hen you don't need too.” Buck says.

 

“Buck I'm not taking no for an answer.” Hen says.

 

“What she means is that Karen would make her sleep on the couch.” Eddie says and he smirks.

 

Chimney comes up the stairs and he is clearly late and Bobby has had this conversation before but it looks like Chimney is ignoring him.

 

“Attention everyone.” Bobby calls out.

 

Everyone looks at Bobby and they all wonder who is getting their vacation.

 

“So I have looked at the list of everyone who has submitted for time off and I can only accept 4 people as I can only bring in 4 floaters to cover and the names I'm going to give are all random so if you don't get yours then I'm sorry but put your request in again for some different dates and I can look and speak to the chief again.” Bobby says.

 

People seem happy with that and they know it's hard for Bobby to accept every single request.

 

“Ok those people I have accepted are Hen, Buck, Jones and Costello. As I said those who have been declined please look at other dates and then come see me.” Bobby says.

 

“Of course Buckley would get his vacation approved.” Chimney says.

 

“Firefighter Han, you haven't booked any vacation time so if I were you I would keep your opinions to yourself and since you decided to turn up late and not give a reason why I'm making you the man behind.” Bobby says.

 

Bobby walks away and he is going to show Han that he is no longer going to get away with his nasty behaviour.

 

The 118 gst called out to a fire and Chimney watches as the rigs pull away.

 

The team pulls up to the incident and Bobby takes command of the scene.

 

“Diaz, I want you and Buckley to take the 4th floor of the building. Wilson, you and Costello stay on the ground and be ready to treat any patients. Jones, you and some firefighters from the 136 are going to check the 1st three floors. Do you all understand what your orders are?.” Bobby asks.

 

They all nod and the 136 pull up and their captain gets out and walks over to Bobby.

 

Bobby tells the captain what's going to happen and the captain tells his crew what to do and to listen to Bobby as he is incident commander.

 

Buck and Eddie head to the 4th floor whilst the 118 and 136 cover the others floors.

 

Eddie is calling out and Buck bangs on the doors and tells people to get out.

 

The people in the building do what they are told and as they pass Eddie and Buck one of the apartment tenants falls.

 

Buck goes over and helps the woman and helps her up and the other tenant, a young boy takes her and leads her to the exit.

 

Jones and some of the firefighters from the 136 are doing the exact same thing on the other floors and they are in constant communication with one another.

 

Buck radio's back saying that the 4th floor is clear and they are helping out on the 3rd floor next.

 

With Buck and Eddie helping with clearing the 3rd floor Jones and the firefighter from the 136 get it clear quicker.

 

Bobby radio's asking if they have found the cause and he gets told no.

 

The two firefighters from the 136 radio back saying the 1st floor is clear and they are heading towards the 2nd floor and everyone says they will meet there and get it cleared faster.

 

Hen and Costello are waiting outside and they see people coming out and Hen spots an elderly woman being helped by a young boy and Hen goes to her.

 

Hen reaches the woman and she tells her who she is and she takes her to the ambulance to get checked out.

 

Buck,Eddie,Jones and the firefighters from the 136 clear the 2nd floor and they radio Bobby and tell him that the building is clear and Bobby gives the order for the rest of the 136 to fire up the hoses and spray the building with water.

 

Everyone walks out the building and the fire starts to die down.

 

Hen and Costello are checking the tenants and 2 more paramedics from the 136 arrive and help out.

 

Buck walks up to Bobby and he tells him that they never found the cause and Bobby says he will wait until the fire is out and do a quick search.

 

Some of the tenants only have smoke inhalation and that's all and they all get told to get in touch with their landlord as they can't go back into the building just yet.

 

An hour later and the fire is out completely and Bobby and Buck do a walk through while the rest of the 118 and 136 clear the scene.

 

Buck had been working with OFI and learning about arson and how to spot it and what things could be used and Buck was doing really well.

 

Bobby knew that Buck was a great firefighter and he knew what he was talking about so when other captains have asked about Buck and how he likes the 118 Bobby has made it clear that Buck is staying with the 118 as he is training Buck to take his place one day.

 

Buck looks around and he can't seem to see any sign of arson so he is confident that it was just a random event.

 

“It's all clear Bobby no sign of arson but I'll speak to the landlord of the building and tell him he needs to get someone to check the wiring as that could be the reason.” Buck says.

 

“Ok.” Bobby says.

 

Buck and Bobby leave the building and the trucks are loaded and the 136 are getting into their own rig and Bobby goes up to the captain and thanks them for the help with the fire.

 

“So is it arson?.” Hen asks.

 

“No, as there is no sign.” Buck says.

 

“Well let's hope the landlord gets the wiring sorted as that may be the reason.” Eddie says and he gets into the rig.

 

“I'm going to speak to the landlord as that's the only conclusion.” Buck says.

 

Hen gets into the rig and Buck gets in after her and Bobby comes back and they drive back to the station.

 

Chimney has been stuck at the firehouse and he has been bored and he hasn't done anything that he was supposed to do.

 

The rig pulls into the station and everyone gets out and when Bobby gets out he looks around and he can see that nothing has been done in the time they have been away from the station.

 

“Firefighter Han, I want you to see me in my office immediately.” Bobby calls out.

 

Chimney comes rushing down the stairs and you can tell he has been sleeping.

 

Both men walk to Bobby's office and the others know that Chimney is in massive trouble.

 

Buck goes and takes a shower as he smells of smoke.

 

Bobby takes a seat at his desk and Chimney takes the seat in front of Bobby.

 

“Bobby look I know some things haven't been done but I just fell behind that's all.” Chimney says.

 

“Firefighter Han do I look stupid to you?.” Bobby asks.

 

“No sir you do not look stupid.” Chimney says and he knows that Bobby is not speaking to him as a friend but as a captain.

 

“Then why do you feel like you can treat me like I am?

 

I have spoken to you numerous times about you being late and your attitude but it seems that you are not listening.

 

So this should make you listen more. For the next month you will be the man behind and you will report to me every time you have completed your assigned choirs and I will inspect the standard I think it should be and if you are late again or your attitude has not changed you will be looking at getting transferred to another house as I will not stand for it any more.

 

Dismissed Firefighter Han.” Bobby says.

 

Chimney leaves and he can't believe that he has just been told off and he is now the man behind for a whole month.

 

Buck walks into the locker room and he starts to get changed into his spear uniform and he decides to phone his parents.

 

Buck pulls out his phone from his locker and he looks for his parents house number and when he has found it he presses the number.

 

Buck waits for a few moments and he then hears his mum's voice.

 

“Hello Jane Spring speaking.” Jane says.

 

“Hi mum, how are you?.” Buck asks.

 

“Evan it's nice to hear your voice but aren't you at work?.” Jane asks.

 

“Yeah I'm just back from a call and I'm in the locker room so I thought I would give you a call and let you know that my vacation got approved so I'll see you guys soon.” Buck says.

 

“That's good. Look Evan I'm just about to head out of the door can we speak later?.” Jane asks.

 

“Is everything ok?.” Buck asks.

 

“Something has happened with Charlie and we are getting him help. Look I've got to go love you.” Jane hangs up.

 

Buck hangs up and he finishes getting changed and he goes and sees Bobby.

 

Buck knocks on Bobby's door and the man says enter and Buck opens the door and walks in.

 

“Buck, what can I do for you?.” Bobby asks.

 

“I was just on the phone with my mum and she said something has happened with my little brother but they are getting him help and I'm starting to worry.” Buck says.

 

Bobby can see the fear in Buck’s eyes and hear it in his voice.

 

“I'll phone chief Alonzo and request a floater and explain that you have had to leave 2 weeks early as you have a family emergency.” Bobby says.

 

“Bobby I don't want to leave you short staffed.” Buck says.

 

“Buck, your family needs you.” Bobby says.

 

Buck thanks Bobby and he leaves the office and goes back to the locker room and he just grades his things and leaves the firehouse.

 

Bobby phones chief Alonzo and tells him the situation and Alonzo says he hopes Buck's little brother is ok and if Buck needs more time off he has it.

 

Bobby knows that Buck is respected by the LFAD Chiefs and the 118 are lucky to have Buck work for them.

 

Bobby gets off the phone and he goes and tells everyone what's happened.

 

Bobby walks up the stairs to the loft and he calls for everyone's attention.

 

“Just to let everyone know firefighter Buckley has had to leave work early and take emergency leave 2 weeks early as he has a family emergency and that's all you need to know. Continue with what you were doing.” Bobby says and he walks away.

 

Hen and Eddie look at each other and they hope everything is ok with Buck and his family.

 

Buck gets to his and Hondo's place and he goes and packs a suitcase and a bag as he doesn't know how long he will be there for.

 

After he has done that he books his flight to the UK and he doesn't book a return since he doesn't know what's going on.

 

Once Buck has made sure he has everything he picks up his bag and suitcase and he walks out the house and locks it behind him.

 

Buck opens the trunk of his car and he puts his things in it and then closes the trunk and then gets back into the driver's seat.

 

It didn't take Buck that long to get to S.W.A.T headquarters and once Buck has parked the car he gets out of it and he walks inside.

 

Buck walks up to the desk and asks to see Sargent Harrelson.

 

The person on the desk gets an officer to escort Buck up to where the team works.

 

Chris and Street are doing some training and they see Buck being escorted by another officer.

 

“Hey Buck what are you doing here as Hondo said you were on shift?.” Chris asks.

 

“Hey guys I need to see Hondo.” Buck asks.

 

“Hey babe, what are you doing here?.” Hondo asks as comes into the training room.

 

“Thanks officer.” Buck says to the man and the officer smiles and leaves.

 

“I need to go back home as I phoned my mum and she said something has happened with Charlie but she didn't say what.” Buck says.

 

“Ok. Do you need me to come with you?.” Hondo asks.

 

“No. I'll phone you in 2 days and let you know what's happening.” Buck says.

 

“Ok. I'll give you a lift to the airport.” Hondo says.

 

“It's fine I brought my car and I'll leave it at the airport.” Buck says.

 

“Leave the car here and I'll take it back to your house.” Street says.

 

“Street you don't need to do that.” Buck says.

 

“It's fine and I'll crash in my room.” Street says.

 

When Jim joined the team Hondo became like a dad to the bloke and made sure that he didn't fall for any lies Karen told Street and when she tried to get Street in trouble he made sure to get more time added to her sentence and get her parole revoked.

 

After Buck and Honda got together that's when Honda told Buck that Street was like a son to him and he has looked out for him and been there for him through thick and thin and he won't turn his back on the man and Buck said he never expects him to.

 

“Come on, I'll drive you to the airport.” Hondo says.

 

Hondo tells Deacon that he will be out of headquarters for about 2 hours and Deacon says he will handle the team.

 

Hondo and Buck walk out of headquarters and Hondo helps Buck take his stuff to Hondo’s car.

 

Buck gets into the passenger side and Hondo gets into the drivers side and he asks Buck what time is his flight and Buck tells him he has an hour and half and Hondo says they will make it in half an hour and he puts the sirens on and drives towards the airport.

The next chapter is when Buck lands in the UK and he goes to his house and he finds out what Charlie has been going through.
