It’s bitterly cold out there. Anne already regrets leaving the boarding house, or even her chamber, if not her warm and comfy bed… But still, she stays outside. She’s willing to risk freezing her arse off on this fuckin’ bench, sitting beside Max to hear her explain why she turned down Madam Guthrie’s plan – the very plan that would’ve allowed them to take over Nassau and crush that bastard Woodes Rogers once and for all…
She has nothing but a thin blanket to protect her from the freezing cold, and the goddamn snow that won’t stop falling over their heads only adds to her shivering. And yet, that’s strange… As she listens to what Max has to say, to the expression of her sincere regrets and her feelings for her, Anne feels her heart grow warm. She shouldn’t be moved in any way by these words. She ought not to forgive Max for her treachery, for what she’s dared to do to her and Jack… but her heart tells her to.
She puts her bandaged hand on the bench. The snow’s touch – cold and biting – is burning her skin… at least until Max takes the hand she has offered her.
