Kingdom Hearts - Recourse of Fate

Chapter 113: Always Another Chapter

Summary:

There's no such thing as The End.

Chapter Text

Two weeks had passed since the Final Days were averted, and the wedding of Matthew and Lucina had come to pass. The sun shined and a cool brisk wind flowed throughout Ivalice. Repairs were made throughout, but most importantly, the former Lucavi had returned home.

“Well, I gotta admit… They’re some nice people.” Carmine, the former Belias, stated, hands on the back of his head.

“The worlds were such an interesting place… I do hope we get more opportunities to explore again.” Emerick, the former Famfrit, added with a smile.

“I’ll say, it was a nice learning experience.” Spenser, the former Adrammelech, mused.

“Yeah… Well, we did keep our promise that we’ll make the worlds a better place. Just not in some destructive manner this time.” Helena, the now former Zalera, hoped. “… But for now, I guess we should just rest… Though, where’s Galfrid?”

“I heard he left for that other world. Said something about people waiting for him there.” Carmine spoke. “… We’ll see him again. He deserves to be happy.”

“Yeah.” Zalera nodded in agreement, as the four decided to just take it easy for a while.

Meanwhile, Aleister, Sarah, Lucina and Matthew just sat out on a hill not too far away from Aleister’s house. The days off and not having to fight so much felt nice… And it could be a long time before anything else happened. Which prompted a good question.

“… Well… Now what do we do?” Lucina asked.

“Well, the relaxation is fun, but to be honest… I’m always ready to get back into action. I think it’d be a great idea to just explore.” Aleister admitted. “The worlds are rich with secrets that we can finally get around to discovering… And I wouldn’t ask for a better group of people to explore them with.” He smiled, getting up.

“You guys are the best friends I could ever ask for.”

"Sounds like fun!" Matthew says, liking the idea. 'Maybe we can find some good honeymoon spots for the future, too.' Matthew thought to himself, blushing as he snuggled into Lucina's side as she did the same with him.

"Just warn me before you two try making me have nieces and nephews to spoil." Sarah asks with a warning look. "I swear you two have been inseparable after your wedding."

"You're surprised at this?" Matthew teases with a smile.

"Nope, just not wanting to walk in on anything... or be in the same building." Sarah states simply.

*"Like YOU'RE one to talk?"* Vanitas groans through their link, making Sarah blush beet red.

'Shut up! That's private!' Sarah warns fiercely through her link with Vanitas.

They each laughed at that, and got up, deciding to simply take a walk.

And so, brought an end to the long fight to protect the universe… But there was always another chapter to write.

Astrum shook his head. Again, his efforts to try and put an end to this cycle of war had failed. Again, the pieces on the board simply reset… He slams his fists down onto his desk. He had returned to his time, and found himself alone.

“It never ends! That’s the problem with this battle… No matter who chooses what side, conflict is inevitable!” He yells quietly, angered that his younger self had still managed to succeed.

Baldr had failed.
Xehanort had failed.
Chaos had failed.
Ultima had failed.

All thanks to the Keyblade Wielders, this battle was going to continue for ages at this rate. He would have to waste another cycle to try and put an end to this, but then that came with the inevitable risk of another hero simply rising up and beating his well thought plan.

No, he needed to put an end to this, permanently.

“… If balance can’t work, if people like Baldr, Xehanort, and Isyrion were always doomed to fail… Then there is one other thing I can do.” Astrum tells himself.

“… If humanity will repeat the same mistakes, over and over again… Then it doesn’t deserve its existence. The answer… Lies in nothingness.”
