Percy Jackson had never been one to back down from a challenge.
It was what got her through the grueling academy training, what made her fight tooth and nail to earn her place in the New York Fire Department, and what turned her into one of the best damn firefighters in the city.
And now, it was what was pushing her across the country to start over.
She tightened her grip on the handle of her duffel bag as she stepped off the plane. The thick heat of Los Angeles wrapped around her, the scent of salt and concrete filling her lungs. It was different from New York, Less sharp, Less rushed, but the undercurrent of energy was the same. A city that never truly slept, just like the one she had left behind.
For the first time in years, Percy was stepping into the unknown.
But if there was one thing she knew how to handle, it was fire.
And this time, she was going to lead it.
Her last day at the station had been bittersweet.
“L.A.?” Grover had gawked at her over his coffee. “Are we really doing it?”
“How sure are you about this Perce?” Rachel had asked a bit skeptical but wanting the best for her friend.
Percy had grinned, nudging their boot with hers as they lounged in the breakroom. “Yep. They offered me the captain’s position at Station 118. Seemed like a sign, I hate it here, You guys hate it here, it could be a fresh start into the unknown, I know I can do this.”
The department hadn't been Nice, Rude, even.There were jokes, there were half-hearted threats to sabotage her job, but in the end, She was happy that she's finally leaving, Grover and Rachel had been always there for her, it wasn't going to be different in LA.
Percy had spent her whole life in New York, fighting to prove herself in a job that was never easy. But when the opportunity came—when the LAFD reached out and told her they wanted her to run one of the fire stations in the city—she had realized something.
