Hear the Angels Cry

Summary:

When number 1 hero Todoroki Shoto and number 2 hero Momo Yaoyorozu are both killed in a 'freak accident', Japan's Child Protective Services has to find the children a new home.

Turns out, the only person who would qualify to take care of these kids is Touya, their estranged uncle that just so happened to have children of his own. Against the rest of the family's wishes, CPS goes ahead with transferring full custody to Touya. Shit then proceeds to hit the fucking fan.

Chapter Text

The news shocked the country. Shoto Todoroki and Momo Yaoyorozu, the number one and two pro heroes, were found dead from a freak train wreck. Fuyumi had taken the kids in the day it happened, hoping that Child Protective Services would find them a new home.

"I miss mom." The youngest said, her red hair barely covering her black eyes.

"I know you do, Kana. We all miss your mother and father. They're ...in a better place now, I suppose." Fuyumi softly replied, pain hiding in her tender voice.

"Auntie Fuyumi...who's gonna take care of us?" The eldest child asked, adjusting his glasses so that he could see better.

"I wish I knew, Hiro. CPS should be calling today to tell us."

Fuyumi looked up as Natsuo took a call.

"Hello?"

"Is this Natsuo Todoroki?"

Right on schedule. Natsuo listened to the other line, his expression changing rapidly.

"No...t-theres gotta be someone else that can take them! Or..f-foster care!"

Fuyumi looked at Natsuo, studying his expressions.

"I know that...b-but anythings better than them living with him! "

"There's nothing more we can do. He's already signed the custody forms and passed the background check-"

"I don't care! He's fucking insane! He'll harm these kids, especially since they bare Shoto's resemblance!"

Fuyumi held the kids close to her, unsure of what was happening.

"It's already been decided on. He'll come and pick them up in a day or so. Give him any trouble and we'll send a warrent out for your arrest."

"B-But-"

The phone hung up. Natsuo threw the phone and sighed heavily.

"Natsuo...what's wrong?"

"CPS called...said they found a new parent."

"And? That's good news...isn't it?"

Natsuo looked at Fuyumi, a pain settling into his eyes. "Its who we both feared it would be."

Fuyumi breathed heavily and looked at him.

"A-Are you certain they said his name? They could've confused him for someone else or-"

"They said his full name, Fuyumi...said he passed their background check and already signed the forms..."

"No...no! They...he...he can't..! We'll...never see them again!"

Fuyumi's phone rang. She quickly picked it up. It was CPS again...perhaps they had changed their mind? Fuyumi put it on speaker and her eyes watered as she heard them speak.

"We have an update on timing. He'll be coming tonight to take the kids. Make sure they are ready to go."

Fuyumi covered her mouth as tears streamed down her face.

"You guys found us a new daddy?" Kana asked, bouncing up and down in anticipation.

"That's correct, Kana. He'll be by tonight to get you two. You won't be alone either, as you'll have two sisters and a brother to play with."

"Oooh! I can't wait! Are we still gonna have time to eat dinner with Grandma before we go?"

"I'm afraid not. You'll be having dinner with him, per his request."

"This mother fucker..." Natsuo mumbled under his breath.

"You mean...we won't be able to say goodbye to Grandma?" Hiro asked softly.

"He should be over before dinner. Have them packed."

The phone hung up. Kana quickly ran to her room and packed her things.

"Hiro, cmon! He's gonna be here soon!"

"Kana...I'm not sure if we should be thrilled...I mean we can't even say goodbye to Grandma..."

"Cmon Hiro! We'll be fine!"

"...if your sure."

Hours passed and just as the twins finished packing, a sudden knock on the door shook both Fuyumi and Natsuo.

"He's here..." Natsuo said.

Fuyumi opened the door and looked at Touya, who was standing on the other side of the door.

"Where are they, Yumi?"

"Not even a hello?" Fuyumi said softly.

"Stop stalling. Where are they?"

"I coming! I coming!"

Kana waddled down the stairs quickly and smiled at Touya.

"Hi! I'm Kana! My brother Hiro is upstairs, packing. Wanna come inside?"

"Kana-"

Touya looked at Fuyumi. "If she wants me to come in, I am perfectly allowed to do so. It's my child after all."

Kana giggled and gently pulled Touya inside. Seeing such a small girl blindly trusting a man she'd never met before gave Touya a power trip of sorts.

"What should I call you, mister?" Kana asked.

"Why don't you call me Daddy, hm?"

Kana thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay, Daddy!"

Kana hugged Touya and showed him to the room she was staying in. It was an awfully small room with a couple of pieces of furniture. Touya couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness when seeing the room.

"You...lived in this small room?" Touya asked softly.

"Yeah. I did. Only for a week though."

Hiro walked over to Kana and Touya and waved slightly.

"I assume that's your brother Hiro?"

"Uh huh! Hiro, meet Daddy!"

Hiro looked at him and shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, sir."

Touya raised an eyebrow but shook Hiro's hand. "How old are you, Hiro?"

"He's 12 years old! I'm 4 years old!"

"Oh your four, Kana? Wow, such a big girl!"

Kana giggled and clapped her hands excitedly.

"Daddy, are we gonna go home?"

Touya chuckled and nodded.

"We're leaving right now, sweet girl."

Touya held Kana's hand and gestured Hiro to follow. Hiro grabbed the suitcases and followed behind Kana and Touya. As they walked back to the house, Kana skipped along excitedly, talking and talking to Touya. Touya listened and even engaged in her excitement filled conversations, something Shoto never did. Hiro was weary of Touya, and rightfully so. After all, Touya was a known sociopath and villain. He may have had plenty of riches, but his heart was black as coal.

Eventually, they arrived. Touya opened the door and there stood two children, standing upright and obedient. A small 6 year old girl ran down the stairs and smiled. "Papa, Papa! Your home!"

The young girl tripped on her feet but got up rather quickly and stood with her siblings. Touya smiled softly and brushed the dirt off of her dress. The young girl giggled and looked at Touya.

"And how's my adorable little Hina been?" Touya asked, brushing the hair from her eyes.

"I been good Papa!" Hina replied.

"Well I've got a little surprise for you. Meet Kana, she's your new sister."

Kana smiled and went to introduce herself, but Hina excitedly hugged her.

"SHES PRETTY, PAPA! SHE CAN HAVE TEA PARTIES WITH ME! AND SHE...SHE..." Hina hyperventilated as she spoke.

"Calm down, my darling angel. You will have plenty of time to play with your new sibling. Now, why don't you and Kana wash up for dinner?"

Hina nodded and dragged Kana to the restroom. Kana giggled and bounced happily as Hina took her to the restroom. Touya smiled and looked at the older children.

"Umi, have you swept the rooms and mopped as I've asked?"

"Yes Father, I have."

"And have you dusted the rooms?"

"Rikyu assisted me with that, Father."

Touya turned to Rikyu. "Is this true, Rikyu?"

Rikyu nodded. "She's telling the truth, Father. And I helped, as she asked."

"Very well. Go wash up for dinner."

"Thank you, Father."

Rikyu and Umi went upstairs to wash up. Hiro watched them go upstairs, curiously wondering why they stood like soldiers.

Touya turned to Hiro, his eyes narrowing with a sort of essence Hiro never experienced before. A controlling gaze.

"Hiro. From now on, you'll share house chores with Rikyu and Umi. When they ask you to assist, you do so with a smile on your face. Is that clear?"

"But...why? Don't you have enough money to buy servants if you needed them?"

Touya looked around and laughed quietly and then, seemingly out of nowhere, he yanked on Hiro's hair.

"You listen to me, and you listen to me well. You do as I or your siblings have asked you WITHOUT asking such pretentious questions like that one. Is that clear, Hiro?"

"...yes."

Touya let go of Hiro's head and looked at the door as a knock came from the outside. Touya regained his composure and opened his door.

"Gentleman, what a pleasant surprise."

"We wanted to see how the children are adjusting to the home."

"Oh they've adjusted splendidly. Me and Hiro were just discussing the chores we give the older kids to help around the house. Kana's upstairs with my youngest, probably exploring the room."

"Excellent. Well, the team tracked down apparently a third and fourth sibling from Shoto's lineage."

"Oh? Pray tell."

The officers revealed two kids. One of them, a 14 year old boy with a jacket and long red hair. The other was a 7 year old girl, with glasses and her black hair in pigtails.

"H-Hi sir. Apologies for being late...my brother thought it would be a good idea to hide us in our grandmother's house."

"It was a good idea! It wasn't until you told the officer about it that it turned into a bad idea!"

Touya nodded. "Do you two have names?"

"Like I'd-"

"I'm Kayami. This is Shozo."

"Kayami. Shozo, a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for bringing them to me, officers. I'll make sure they become adjusted just as Hiro and Kana have."

The officers left. As soon as Touya saw the car leave, Touya looked at Shozo. "I can already tell you will be a troublesome one. Along with Hiro, who has already proven to be so."

Kana and Hina ran downstairs, and were followed by Umi and Rikyu. Kana was in a beautiful blue dress, looking like a glass doll more than a human. And that's just how Touya liked his girls to look. Like glass dolls. Easily controlled and always obedient.

Notes:

Kana is too trusting, someone come and save her 😭

Chapter 2

Summary:

After the four siblings met Touya, they began to adjust.

For Kana, life was easy, playing with toys and hanging out with her new best friend, Hina.

For the others? Let's just say being put in a detention center would've been better than this.

Umi and Rikyu went past the others and began setting up the dinner table, placing the food on the table and setting up the plates and utensils. Kana watched them set up the table and giggled.

"Woah what are they doing, Daddy?" Kana asked innocently, fiddling with her dress as she spoke.

"The older kiddos have special chores that they do around the house. But don't worry dear, you wont have to do those chores."

Kana nodded, as if that made all the sense in the world. Shozo looked at Kayami.

"The heck does he mean by that?" Shozo whispered.

"Hm...I dont know." Kayami replied, fixing her ponytail.

Umi and Rikyu stood at attention. Touya nodded and gestured for them to sit. Hana took Kana's hand and brought her to the table. Hiro, Shozo and Kayami sat down and kept looking at each other as they ate.

Hina and Kana finished their food and Hina dragged Kana into her room. Touya chuckled and, as the door closed to their room, Touya's attitude changed. He had a cold, calculating look in his eyes.

"Now. Your chores. I expect these to be done before dinner."

Touya passed around a piece of paper for each of the three kids. Kayami looked at her list, which was smaller compared to her brothers. Hiro stared at his list, which had a ton of chores that felt like he was the butler. Shozo also had a huge list of things to do, downright impossible to do in one day.

"This is...impossible to do in a day." Shozo said softly.

"W-What happens if we dont do them in time?" Kayami asked.

Touya had a wicked smile on his face as he leaned in. "Lets get to that when it arises, hm?"

Hiro shuddered slightly and looked at Umi and Rikyu. He saw their faces, somehow with more detail. Rikyu had circles under his eyes and Umi looked like she hadn't eaten in weeks. Kayami shrank down and forced a smile. Shozo flipped through the pages and said nothing.

"You'll wake up at dawn and start working on your chores. Umi and Rikyu will show you where everything is, including your sleeping arrangements."

Umi and Rikyu nodded.

"We'll discuss this more tomorrow morning when you wake up. But I expect nothing but obedience from you three. After all, I did you a favor by taking you in. After they show you around, I expect this kitchen to be spotless before night fall."

The three got up and followed Umi and Rikyu. Hiro noticed how Rikyu wore extra clothing and how Umi shuffled around like an exhausted single mother.

"I dont think Touya's a good parent." Hiro said softly.

"You think?" Shozo replied "I think he's bluffing though with the consequences."

Rikyu turned to them for a moment and sighed. Umi kept herself upright as they went downstairs.

"Do you think we'll have to stay up all night again, Rikyu?" Umi asked quietly.

"All night?" Hiro thought. "What does she mean by that?"

"I'm hoping not." Rikyu softly replied. "I barely got any sleep this week."

Hiro felt his stomach churn but pressed on, as Rikyu opened the basement door.

"Here's where we sleep." Umi said.

The bedroom...wasnt even a bedroom. There wasnt even a mattress on the ground. All that was there was the cold hard ground and a barely usable blanket.

"You guys can sleep there. I'll...figure out something else." Rikyu said.

"Rikyu, surely he doesn't actually force you to sleep here?" Kayami asked.

Rikyu shrugged. "This is where he said we'd be sleeping when we were brought here."

Meanwhile, Kana and Hina were playing upstairs when Touya knocked on the door and opened it. Hina waved excitedly as Touya held something behind his back.

"Girls. I have a special game for you to play."

Touya brought out the bags Hiro, Kayami, and Shozo brought in. "I need you two to go through these bags. If you find anything odd, put in a pile. Its like...a treasure hunt."

Kana nodded. "Otay!"

Touya smiled. "Good girls. So obedient." Touya dropped the bags and smiled. "I'll check in on you all in a little while. Daddy's got some work to do."

Kana nodded as she opened her brother's bag. Hina smiled and opened Kayami's bag. Touya kept the door open and walked away.

As they rummage through the bags, Hina hummed excitedly as she threw clothes on the floor. Kana pulled out a gaming console and smiled.

"Oh! Natsuo gave my brother this! Its an old gaming thingy. He played with this thingy all the time..."

Kana sniffled. "And when I asked him if I could play it...he said no."

Hina hugged Kana. "It okay...Daddy will take care of it."

The camera hidden in the corner of the room twitched slightly to the left. Turns out, Touya hadn't gone far. He had a app where he could track every movement in the house, including the basement and Hina's room.

When the others got up from the basement, they began cleaning the kitchen. Rikyu began scrubbing the counters with several types of sponges. Umi swept the floors vigorously, as if they both knew Touya would be back any moment. Kayami was cleaning the dishes and putting them in the dishwasher. Rikyu looked at Kayami and his eyes widened.

"What are you doing?!" Rikyu said, panic filling his eyes.

"Doing the dishes? Don't you use the dishwasher?"

Umi dropped the broom and tried to grab the dishes out. "Dad's gonna kill us!" Umi shrieked as she unloaded the dishwasher as fast as she could.

But even with her and Rikyu trying to unload the dishwasher, it still wasnt done fast enough. The air around them became suffocating and cold. Hiro looked at Touya, who was standing near the kitchen entrance. As Kayami tried to speak, Rikyu interrupted.

"It was my fault. I...wasnt watching and didnt inform her."

Kayami felt her heart burst out of her chest as Touya yanked Rikyu and dragged him somewhere. Umi started crying softly as she started sweeping again, barely audible whimpers of fear.

Kayami stood there for what felt like forever, breathing quickly and her heart pounding so hard her whole body shook.

"I...I didnt know..." Kayami whispered quietly.
