Third pov
It was the start of spring and the majority of the Olympians were looking down at the city where two of their own were fighting for patronage.
Poseidon stood proud surveying the crowd gathered in the city of Attica feeling confident about the mortals naming him the patron of what he believed to be the finest city in all of the Greek peninsula. There was one problem however, Athena. She had also had the same idea as him and had wished to earn a patron city herself. The king Kerkpoas, who had prayed to the gods for a patron of his city and the people, was going to act as judge for this contest. “Mortals!” Poseidon announced. “You have prayed to us gods for a divine patron of your city, bear witness to my gift and make the smarter decision.” With the end of the sentence he slammed the blunt end of his trident on the ground producing a flowing fountain the size of five people. The king stepped and cupped his hand catching a handful of water before bringing it to his lips.
“It’s seawater!” he cried in surprise, spitting the water out. “How can we use this?”
Before Poseidon could berate the king Athena stepped in. “Maybe my gift will be of more use.” With this she used her spear to make a hole in the dirt a palms width across, once she had removed her spear a tree started to grow rapidly from the hole soon standing as tall as the fountain and the trunk was just as thick as an elephant's leg, the branches were full of small green fruits. “Behold! The olive tree, it can withstand the harsh climate of Attica and will provide you with food, oil for cleaning and burning as well as firewood.”
The king once again walked forwards and plucked an olive from one of the low hanging branches and took and ate it whole, after a while he spat the pit back into his hand. “A delicious fruit that will provide us with many essential resources. I have made my decision. This city shall be named Athens after our new patron goddess! May we make you proud Lady Athena by learning and growing under your name.”
Athena smiled at that. “Very well don’t disappoint me.” the ground started shaking in Poseidon’s anger at his humiliation.
“Niece do you pride yourself in taking from me? First Pallas now this city. What will your greed take next?”
Athena faced her uncle. “I do not wish to steal, that is my half-brother's job. And you dare blame me for the death of my closest friend after I swore on the styx I never wanted to harm her, and that it was a trick from my father?” as the argument escalated one of the thicker branches snapped from the shaking landing with a splash into the fountain, all of a sudden a blinding light appeared from where the branch had landed creating a silhouette of the branch as it changed shape cutting the spat off as the two gods stared at the branch as it turned into the shape of a girl?
Once the light had died down a girl emerged from the fountain with flowing waves of black hair and eyes that changed from sea green to grey, her skin was tanned, her muscles gave her a mix of a swimmer and swordsman build. The two deities were stunned as the girl from the fountain with a shimmering sea green chiton with grey owl accents finally spoke in a foreign language. “Dad?”
That brought Poseidon back. “Who are you and why are you in my fountain?”
The girl looked confused. “What do you mean dad? I’m Percy, your daughter.”
“What do you mean my daughter?”
“Uncle,” Athena spoke after studying the girl for a while. “I do sense your divine essence in her. As well as mine?!” with the last sentence Athena stumbled back slightly. “I have a daughter.” she whispered to herself, she was already feeling a strange sense of protectiveness for Percy. As Athena was dealing with her feelings Percy turned to her.
“Mother?” That one word was all Athena needed to make her way towards her new child and pulled her into a hug, taking her from the fountain in the process.
Athena cradled her new daughter in her arms. “I’ll keep you safe my little owlet.” she murmured into Percy's hair and smiled as her daughter melted into the embrace at those words, she once again turned to the crowd. “Bear witness as my citizens to the birth of my daughter Perce Athenide.”
Poseidon hit the floor with his trident. “What do you mean Athenide she is my daughter as well! Were you lying when you said you don’t like stealing from the sea niece?”
Athena held her daughter closer. “You already have many children who bear your name. She is my first thus she should take my name. Consider it punishment for taking a woman in my temple." As soon as she spoke a clap of thunder announced the arrival of her father followed closely by her siblings Apollo and Artemis.
“Daughter, we have been watching this challenge of yours from olympus and while I congratulate you on winning the challenge the arrival of this child is most unusual. Did you break your sacred vows?”
Athena hid her daughter from the new arrivals Poseidon understood and stood next to her to hide the child from his brothers prying eyes and loose chiton. “Father, if you have been watching, you would have seen that she was formed when a branch from my sacred tree fell into uncles fountain.” She turned to Artemis. “Check whether or not my vows are still intact sister I swear they are.”
Zeus turned to the moon goddess who nodded her head. “My sister has kept her vows intact.” she proceeded to turn to Percy. “Join my hunt niece. It would be nice to have a fellow goddess help with my hunt.”
“I just earned a daughter, sister, I don’t wish to lose her so soon.” Athena snarled.
“B-but I’m not a goddess. And my name is Percy not Perce” Percy stammered out, clinging tightly to her mothers arm with one arm while the other held onto the bracer, seemingly ready to take it off at any second.
Artemis only smiled warmly in response and held out her hand which Percy tentatively took before she brandished a small hunting knife and pricked Percy’s index finger who proceeded to yell in shock when Ichor bubbled up from the wound.
Apollo quickly stepped forward to get a look at the new goddess but was swiftly blocked by Athena’s spear and Poseidon’s trident. He put his hands up. “I merely wanted to heal your daughter. Am I allowed to do that as the god of healing?” His gentle voice made the new goddess poke her head out from behind her mother and Apollo was taken aback by her beauty and quickly decided that if he was ever to marry it would be to Percy Athendie. He happily placed her hand in between his as she held it out as he healed her but he quickly stepped back as soon as he heard the warning tap of spear on trident. Most gods were thankful that Athena and Poseidon were rivals. But even without his power of prophecy Apollo knew that Percy would bring an end to that and the combination of the sea and wise warfare would devastate anything that even thought wrong about their daughter.
Athena moved quickly before any more gods would descend as she already feared what would happen to her new city if any of them forgot about the citizens watching. “Farther I wish to take my daughter back to my temple on Olympus so that she may discover her domains in peace and away from the … prying eyes of our kin.” Zeus sighed but relented still yet to catch a glimpse of his granddaughter. “Very well but she is to be present at the feast tonight.” Athena nodded quickly, whisking her daughter away from Athens and towards her temple on Olympus.
