Scaredy Cat

Summary:

Kaminari doesn’t handle scary movies well, but his boyfriends are there to comfort him after.

Notes:

I still have so many ideas for these three in this universe, so I hope you guys still like them 😊

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Can someone help me take this off?”

A chuckle echoed down the hall from the kitchen, and Kaminari couldn’t help but pout.  The skintight nurse's dress zipped in the back, and no matter how he tried to contort his arms, there was no way he would be able to get it fully undone on his own.

The party at Todoroki’s home earlier had gone much later than everyone was expecting, and more of the old class A had been able to attend than they had expected.  It was a rare occasion when so many of them were in the same place at once, so they had taken advantage of the moment and stayed until well into the night.

Shortly after graduation, their class had scattered across the city, and for some of them, across the country.  Luckily Kaminari had ended up working at the Fat Gum agency with Kirishima, which was not far at all from the Endeavor agency that Bakugou was at currently.

He counted himself so unbelievably lucky most days.

“Need a little help there, Firefly?”

Kami groaned, head drooping in defeat.  “I was hoping Eiji would come to help.”

“Oh, so you’re picking favorites now?”  Bakugou asked, stalking towards Kaminari with a glint in his eyes that made liquid heat rush through his veins.

“No, but you’re more likely to pick on me before you finally help,” Kami whined, pouting up at Bakugou.  In the few years since graduation it was almost like he had hit another growth spurt, gaining on him in both height and muscle mass.  At this point, Kaminari’s forehead was at chin level for his two boyfriends.  And while it made it easier for things like cuddles, and tucking himself into their arms no matter where they were standing, in moments like this, when he had to tilt his head back and ask nicely for something, he almost wished for them to be on even ground.

“Pick on you?”  Red eyes dragged down Kami’s body, and he felt it like a physical touch before a hand coming up to trail down his waist.  “When you’re walking around looking like this?  You think highly of me if you believe I can hold myself back when you look good enough to eat, all wrapped up like this.”

Kaminari let out a breathless sigh as Bakugou’s hand dragged over his chest, slipping around to place his warm palm flat against his back, between his shoulder blades.  “Katsuki…” he whined, leaning into the touch.

A short laugh puffed against his cheek before soft lips found his, teeth grazing Kami’s lower lip.  He tilts his head back further to give Bakugou full access, sighing as fingers tangle in the hair at the base of his neck.

“I’ve got the movie set up, you guys coming?”

Bakugou swears under his breath, hands tightening on Kaminari as footsteps come closer to the bedroom.

Peeking around Bakugou’s arm, Kami watched as Kirishima came into the room, his frankenstein makeup half-removed, green face paint still clinging to the edges of his cheeks and chin.  When he sees the two of them tangled up, a sly smile spreads across his face.  “Oh, am I interrupting something?”

“Fuck off,” Bakugou snarls, sounding more pouty than angry.

Kaminari laughs, tugging on his sleeve.  “Come on, this is really tight and I can’t wait to get into something comfy.”

It takes only a few moments for them to get Kaminari out of his outfit, Kirishima helping to unzip his thigh-high boots while Bakugou undoes the back of the dress.  It takes a little while to get them out of the bedroom after peeling everything off of Kami, but eventually he makes it to the couch with them, dressed in a pair of old sweatpants and one of the others’ t-shirts.  At this point their laundry had gotten so mixed up, the only thing they could differentiate was Kaminari’s clothes, which for the most part was too small for either of his boyfriends.

When Kaminari sees the screen, he makes a face.  “Do we need to watch a horror movie?”

“We were just at a Halloween party, I’m in a spooky mood,” Bakugou answers, stuffing some popcorn in his mouth.

“You can cuddle with me if you get scared,” Kirishima tells him, opening his arms and letting Kami get comfortable, curled up against his side.  Unfortunately for Kaminari he has a hard time hiding or distracting himself from the movie.  It’s something supernatural, and anything paranormal has always scared Kami, ever since a kid in primary school convinced him the bathrooms of the school were haunted.  It took weeks before his teacher finally convinced him that no, nothing will come crawling out of the pipes to get him while he pees.

It should be fine, Kami figures, since he lives with two of the strongest people he knows.  He himself is no pushover, either.  None of them would let anything happen to each other, and he wouldn’t be sleeping alone.  Ever since they moved in together he slept squished between two human furnaces on a bed probably too small for three grown men.  So while he jumps at every scare in the movie, and shivers at the implication of what is being done to the main characters, he tells himself not to worry, he’ll be able to sleep securely tonight.

Needing something to do with his hands to distract from his nerves, Kaminari decides to start washing the dishes when he passes through the kitchen and sees a few sitting in the sink.  They’re from earlier today, the food Bakugou had made for them before they were rushing out the door for the party.

Every little noise was making him jumpy, which is as embarrassing as expected.  Neither Bakugou or Kirishima seemed to even be thinking about the movie once it ended other than to praise its special effects before Bakugou dragged Kiri to their bathroom to properly remove the rest of his costume makeup.

And so the kitchen sink is where his boyfriends find him, distracted and scrubbing at a pan.  Bakugou slides up behind him and wraps his arms around his waist, which causes him to jump and drop the sponge in his hand, soapy water sloshing onto the counter.  It takes only a second before Kami realizes who it is hugging him, relaxing into it and face heating in embarrassment.

“Oh shit, I didn’t mean to scare you.”  Bakugou says, pulling back and leaning around to look Kami in the eyes.  “You okay?”

“Y-yeah, I'm fine!  Must uh, still be jumpy from the movie.”

Kirishima joins them, a small frown causing his brows to pinch low over his somber eyes.  “You had mentioned not wanting to watch it before we started, and we should have taken you seriously.  Maybe we'll just have a rule for no more scary movies?”

“No, that's not necessary!”  Kami tells them, spinning around and flapping his still wet hands.  Kiri's own hands come up to grab his wrists and still them, stopping the water from getting flung onto the three of them.  “Oh, sorry,” Kaminari smiles sheepishly.  “But seriously, I'm fine.  It’s nothing some distractions and a good night's sleep won't fix!”

His boyfriends share doubtful looks, but help him finish cleaning the dishes without pushing the issue any further.

Before long, Kami is laying in bed, a light snoring coming from Eiji next to him and Kats sleeping so quietly Kami sometimes places a hand on his chest to make sure he’s still breathing, wide awake and thinking of the movie at 3 am.

He’s warm and comfy between his boyfriends, but every little noise in their neighborhood and house is making Kami spark with discomfort.  He doesn’t want to wake either of the boys up, so he slowly wiggles his way out from the blankets and exits through the bottom of the bed, pausing to glance behind him at the two peaceful figures under the covers.

Slipping out the door quietly, Kaminari inches down the hall in the dark, breathing picking up.  He hates not being able to see in the dark, but had learned his lesson trying to use his electricity for light once before when he forgot to pull it away from his hand as he swiped the light switch.

So this time he walks through the dark, not able to control his breathing until he’s in the kitchen and turning on the lights under the cabinets.  It casts a weird glow on the room, which he isn’t sure is much better at this point.  But he can see, and it’s dim enough that it doesn’t hurt his exhausted eyes.

Jumpy as he is, Kami figures he should grab some water and maybe that will help him to calm down some.  He grabs one of the fancy bottles Bakugou keeps stored in the fridge for their trips to the gym, but figures he won’t be too upset since he’s normally begging Kami to drink some fucking water, what do you not know how to take care of yourself?  I leave you alone for one goddamned day and you’re fucking dehydrated?

He takes a few more slow sips of water, feeling his heart rate calming down now that he’s walked around the house and seen that everything is okay.  Maybe when he gets back to the bedroom he’ll lock the door behind him, something Kiri wasn’t a huge fan of in case of fires or emergencies, but he was sure his boyfriend wouldn’t mind when Kami explained it made him feel safer.

He let out a small sigh, shoulders drooping.  It was time to be honest with himself, there was no way he would be getting any sleep tonight.  You would think a career as a hero and living with two more very capable heroes would make him feel better.  It was a little lame, and he hoped he could get away with Bakugou not realizing what happened.

Speaking of, Katsuki had this weird sixth sense that kicked in when he was asleep, and he would notice if anything was amiss and wake up.  Kaminari didn’t want to be gone for too long, or else Bakugou may wake up and follow him out here.

He tucked the water bottle back in the fridge and quietly closed the door, turning to the cabinets to switch off the lights.  But before he can flick them off, out of the corner of his eye he sees movement in the kitchen doorway.  Kami spins quickly to see who it is, letting out a louder than necessary shriek, seeing nothing but a dark shape thanks to the dim lighting.  The small carpet under his feet slips on the tile floor, twisting in his feet and causing him to tumble over.

“Denki??”  The figure from the doorway, Kirishima, rushes forward, dropping down in front of Kaminari and scooping him into his lap.  Kami grabs his shoulders, unable to stop the tears and panicked breathing from the adrenaline and fear.  Unreasonable fear.

From upstairs he hears pounding footsteps, before Bakugou comes barrelling into the room, palms popping.  “What the fuck happened??”

“I think I just scared him,” Kiri says softly, hands rubbing Kami’s back in a soothing gesture.

Bakugou kneels down next to him, bringing a hand up to run through Kami’s hair, dull fingernails scratching lightly over his head.  “Sparky, it’s just us.  You’re okay.”

It takes them a few minutes, Kami's forehead pressed to Kirishima's chest as Bakugou rubs his back.  Once his breathing is under control, he pulls back, unable to look them in the eyes.  “I'm sorry for scaring you both.”

“You have nothing to apologize for,” Bakugou tells him sternly, pulling Kami into his lap to press a kiss to his temple.  “It's our fault, we're sorry.”

“You tried to tell us your limits and we ignored you, that was a really shitty thing to do,” Kirishima says, hand resting on Kaminari's hip.  “No more scary movies from now on.”

“No really, I'll be okay!”  Kaminari begs, hands shaking where they gripped Bakugou's shirt and lips trembling slightly.  “I don't want you guys to stop doing something you enjoy because I'm a wimp.”

“It’s literally no contest,” Bakugou tells him sternly.  “We’d rather you not be shitting yourself when we come up behind you then get to watch a lame movie anyway.”

“Yeah babe, you matter so much more to us,” Kiri tells him, standing from where they sit on the floor and lifting Kami up into his arms.  “No more scary movies.  Period.”

Kaminari cuddles into his arms, just nodding silently while his boyfriends turn off the lights and bring him back to their room, bedroom door locked behind them.  A lamp is already on, and Kirishima carries Kami to the center of the bed, laying him down before both of them cuddle in on either side.  Kami grips onto Kiri’s bare arms, glancing behind him to where Bakugou is checking his phone, using an app to lower the light from the lamp to something dim and comfortable.

Kirishima pulls Bakugou closer once his phone is set down, but Kami frowns.  “Katsuki, you can’t fall asleep with a light on.”

“I know, but I won’t go to sleep until you are.”  A kiss is pressed to his temple as the blanket is pulled up and tucked in under his chin.  “So worry about falling asleep, and we’ll make sure you’re fine.”

Kami giggles, eyelashes still a bit wet but he leans up slightly to kiss Bakugou on the lips.  “My heroes.”

“Damn right we are.  Now go the fuck to sleep.”

“Good night Kats, Denki.”

“Good night Eiji, Kats.”

“Good night idiots.”

A chorus of giggles before Kaminari finally settles down, face pressed into Kirishima’s chest and Bakugou’s breath fanning across the back of his neck.

“G’night Denki, Eiji.”

Kaminari sighs, happy and relaxed, and closes his eyes for the best rest he’s ever gotten.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed! 💛

Honestly this story is a self-read, because I can’t handle scary movies or shows at all. Just in general I’m scared of everything, so poor Kami is having that projected onto him.
