Chapter 1: It will all be okay

Chapter Text

‘’ Mommy and daddy are fighting again, Razzle...’’ Dazzle nudged Razzle awake, the fragile boy not knowing what to do. ‘’Oh come on, Dazzle! Just go to sleep, we have important things to do in the morning!’  Razzle just wanted to help Dazzle to the best extent, he was also not in the best state. They needed the energy to even get through a day; Sharing a body takes a lot of energy. ‘’Like what Razzle… We aren’t even allowed to go anywhere, can we please…just check?’’ Razzle sighed but gave in, just wanting to satisfy his brothers needs so they could go to sleep. The two got out of their bed with a struggle, not really having the energy to move around anymore. Tip-toeing their way to the door of their bedroom, the house was a small 2-bedroom home build with the most unstable, but cheapest material there was. This was the most a lowly commoner could afford, but it had to do. The two put their ears to the door so they could listen to what was happening outside their room.

‘’Can you keep your voice down!? They are trying to sleep, you know they need their energy!’ Could be heard from the woman they called ‘’Mommy’’. ‘’Why should I care about them. They ruined our lives, Lydia!’ Could be heard from the man they called ‘’Daddy’’.  The bickering and fighting happened day in and day out, a baby being born that looked like them was heavily frowned upon, everyone believed they were a ‘’gift’’ from the devil himself. The shape of their heads did not help this case. ‘’They are OUR flesh and blood; how can you possibly hate them...?’’ The woman started crying, she couldn’t understand the lack of love he was feeling towards the two. ‘’They aren’t my flesh and blood; I will never love them. And stop your CRYING! I can’t do this anymore!’’ His voice starting to raise even more, a threatening tone forming. ‘’You know what Lydia? If you love these monsters so much, why don’t you raise them by yourself, good luck with these pests .’’ The woman looked up at him, in shock that he would actually leave her all alone knowing that she could never do this by herself. ‘’No please! How will I get by!? I don’t have a job!’’ She grabbed his hand in hope to make him see this was a bad idea. ‘’Let go of me you bitch!’’ He kicked her down making her hand let go of his and stormed off into their bedroom, packing his essentials.

The woman just curled up into a ball, crying even harder than before, realizing it was over between them. The man came out of their bedroom and opened the door to the outside world and without looking back, left their lives forever. After a while she stood up, knowing that she was all they had left now. The cruel world would always be against them, trying their hardest to make their life hell. She was going to protect them, no matter the cost. Razzle and Dazzle slowly opened the door and peaked outside, both sobbing silently. She looked at them and her tears immediately faded away, her unconditional love overpowering the tears with ease. ‘’Come here darlings, he is gone now…’’ The two waddled over to their mommy, the one who was always there for them. ‘’Shhh… Do not cry, I am here for you.’ She hugged the two in an attempt to comfort them. ‘’Why does daddy not love us...? Is he just like the others.’’ Dazzle asked, he didn’t understand what was going on, how could his own dad be afraid of him. ‘’I don’t know either sweetie, I wish I could know so I could ease your mind. But don’t worry, we don’t need him!’’ She cooed, stroking her fingers over their faces. ' I’m glad we have you, Mommy! I love you!’ Razzle said, his tears now also gone. ‘’I love you too, now let’s get you two back to bed. Tomorrow we are leaving home for an exciting journey!’ She said deceitfully, knowing that trying to get by will be a tougher journey then they could prepare for. The two’s innocent eyes lit up, excited to finally go out into the world.

She walked over to their bedroom and tucked the two into bed, giving them both a kiss on their forehead. ‘’Goodnight and sleep well, You two will need the energy for tomorrow.’’ Even though he was really tired, Razzle’s energy was still through the roof. He had already forgotten what had happened not even 10 minutes before. Lydia chuckled; she was glad she gave birth to two beautiful innocent children. Dazzle nudged Razzle once more to calm down, just wanting to go to bed. Luckily Razzle took the hint and calmed down. She stood up from their bed and walked over to the bedroom door to get her own much needed sleep. ‘’It will all be okay, goodnight, Razzle and Dazzle.’ Looking back with a smile on her face. ‘’ Bye mommy!’ They said in unison, finally feeling their eyes get drowsy. She closed the door and sighed, not having a clue on what she could expect for life to throw at them. But she knew that she would do everything to protect her children, no matter the cost.

The next morning has arrived, and Razzle and Dazzle were wide awake before the first sign of life could even be heard outside their tiny house. Even though Dazzle wanted an extra hour of sleep, sharing a body made it really difficult to have decisions like that all to yourself. Razzle was already wide awake and eager to get out to the journey their mommy promised them. ‘’Please Razzle, can’t we just stay in bed for a little while longer...? I am still so sleepy…’’ Dazzle was starting to get annoyed at Razzle, why couldn’t Razzle for once listen to his needs. ‘’Oh, come ooooooon! Sleeping is boring Dazzle…Don’t you also want to leave this place?’’  The bickering continued for a while between the two, until Mom came to save the day; being awoken by their meaningless dispute. ‘’Okay you two, pipe down! You guys can’t be wasting your energy so early in the morning. You guys should get some rest, I will be preparing some breakfast and getting the stuff we need for our journey in the meantime, Alright?” She tucked them back into bed and gave them a kiss on their forehead. She knew they needed the energy, especially for today. The two went out cold before she could even leave the room, still tired from the night before (Despite Razzle’s pleads to get out of bed).

She started preparing breakfast with the stuff that was left. She would worry about other meals when the time comes. It wasn’t much that she could offer, just some slices of bread with a simple potato soup; But it had to do. Lydia grabbed some essentials for the journey; A blanket, the last few coins she had left, and some extra warm clothing for her children. The season of winter was rough in the place they lived, so the timing of their forced journey couldn’t have been any worse. After packing the essentials, she went over to the bedroom her precious children were sleeping in and woke them up. ‘’Come on you two, breakfast is ready!’’ She shook them awake with a gentle demeanor in an attempt to ease their (but especially Dazzle’s) minds on what was about to come. Razzle immediately sprung awake and shook Dazzle awake a little more roughly, this surprisingly doing the trick. The two followed their Mommy to the kitchen and sat down at the table, eager to get some food into their system. Lydia prepared two bowls and set them down onto the table, leaving just a singular piece of bread for herself. While Razzle was already enjoying his breakfast, Dazzle just stared at his plate; He was the more observant type after all. ‘’Mommy…aren’t you going to eat any soup?’’  Dazzle asked, wanting to make sure she was also full. Lydia sighed; she wished Dazzle sometime wasn’t so worried about the needs of others. ‘’No darling I will be fine, you just enjoy your soup, okay?” Dazzle still wasn’t sure, he could sense she was lying. ‘’’We can share mommy... I can’t finish this by myself anyways, Razzle and I share an appetite you know?’’ Lydia smiled, she was glad Dazzle was so mature for his age, glad that she at least raised them well enough. ‘Well alright then, thank you Dazzle.’’ The family enjoyed their breakfast together at the place they called home for the last time that day.

Lydia sat the two down for a talk, needing to make sure they know what to look out for and how to behave. She had to know that they wouldn’t cause unnecessary trouble. ‘’Now you two, we can’t stay here because we don’t have any more money.’’ She began saying, she felt like honesty was the smartest in this situation. ‘’Mommy will be working as a maid in any Castle that will take us in, so you guys have to be on your best behavior during our stay but especially when we travel!’’ She hoped the journey wouldn’t last too long, the dangers of having her precious children wouldn’t be small. Razzle and Dazzle nod in agreement, they knew to an extent as to how the world around them thought about them. ‘’If you guys are sure that you are ready, I think it is time to head off, be sure to always hold my hand and not let go.’’ She grabbed the essentials she packed a while ago and signed for her children to follow along.

‘’Oh, I can’t wait to go out and explore the world Dazzle! How would the castles look like from the inside??’’ Razzle said excitedly, he was glad that they could finally go somewhere, their parents tried to keep them away from the outside world as much as possible since they have been born, trying to avoid any harm people could bring upon them. ‘’Huh…? Oh, I think they would look pretty big…’’ Dazzle was a bit more antsy than Razzle about this ‘’adventure’’, not sure as to how things would play out for them. As their mommy opened the door onto the luckily still quiet streets and the two set their first steps onto the dirt ground since a long while, they took a breath of the not-so-fresh air; nevertheless, they enjoyed it. The getting up early and the lack of a market that would make the streets busy made their journey out of town quite easy, if there was someone passing by, they would simply walk past them without making eye contact.

Now that they left town, they were walking on quiet grasslands with slim to no life to be found other than the occasional travelers who had the same goal as them. Razzle and Dazzle finally took the breath of fresh air they longed for; they were never allowed outside much; people wanted to bring them harm just because they were an outcast. So, to get the chance to explore the world made even Dazzle smile, finally starting to calm down a bit about the situation they were in; maybe it would all work out just fine. Unfortunately for them, luck wasn’t on their side anymore. A group of knights of the Florenzia kingdom (Kingdom of fauna and flora) were strutting by on their horses, just walking past without making eye contact wouldn’t work like it did before. ‘’What would a mother with her ‘’children’’ do here all alone?’’ Said one of the knights, this knight was probably a higher rank then the others, wearing better quality armor with a bigger sword to match his ranking. Lydia was terrified, but she knew she had to stand her ground to protect her children. ‘’We are just passing by sir; we don’t mean to cause you folks any trouble nor keep you waiting.’’ She said, hoping that they would just continue to go wherever they were going. The knights burst out in laughter, finding her attempts to make them leave hilarious. Razzle and Dazzle hid behind their mommy, scared by the big men on horses. They didn’t know what would happen to them, would these people actually hurt them? ‘’I’m sorry gentlemen but we need to get going if we want to arrive at our destination as soon as possible’’ Lydia gently pushed her children in the direction they were supposed to be going but she was stopped by a sword right in front of her, the sharp blade causing a cut at her chest, the sudden flash of pain making her let go of her children; making them fall to the ground.  ''Razzle and Dazzle!! Are you two okay?" Lydia quickly helped them back up, the adrenaline rushing through her veins helping her ignore the pain. ''Mommy! Are you hurt!?'' The two asked, seeing red stain her clothing. ''I... I am fine, it's just a small cut. Don't worry about me.'' She hugged her children, trying to shield them from the knights that were harassing them. ''I think we should bring them back to the kingdom, don't you all agree boys?'' The leader of the troop said while laughing, not having a care in the world for the feelings of these lowly commoners. ''Yea...I think we shall...'' After saying that the leader got off of his horse and started walking towards the family, pushing them towards one of the wagons they had. ''Now you ''three'' better sit tight, and don't you dare try any funny business or I won't hesitate to put an end to it.'' He said with a menacing tone. And with that he got back on his horse and signaled his troops to follow him at a steady pace back to the kingdom of Florenzia.

Seconds felt like minutes, and minutes felt like hours, they don't know how long they have been traveling already; they just know that their fate was now in the hands of those knights. What would happen to them once they arrived at the kingdom? Would they...get separated? All these questions were making circles around all 3 of their minds and they didn't know what to do with them. They just wanted for all of this to be over, for them to be safe. ''Why don't you two get some rest, we might be traveling for a little while longer. I will keep watch if anything happens.'' Lydia said, making her children lay in the most comfortable position she could offer them in the wagon. All of this going down caused them to lose a lot of energy that they would still need for what was to come. The two lay down in their mother's lap and took their much-needed rest. As night arrived, they dreamt about all kinds of things; What would their life be like if they were accepted for who they were, for how they looked. They too dreamt about their future, and what it could end up like. Even though nothing in their dreams could predict what choices they had to make for a positive ending to their story, they knew that everything would be okay in the end if they just stuck together; just like they always have been doing.

Chapter Text

‘’Hey, you two, wake up. I believe we are at our destination.’’ Lydia shook her children awake even though she did not want to. She wished they never encountered those knights. What would their king do with the three of them? She did not want to dwell too much on the question, it would only bring her more unneeded stress. ‘’Oh, hi mommy…’’ Razzle said groggily, still readjusting to the light of the bright sun. They must have been asleep for the entire night. Lydia was surprised they managed to sleep so well on this uncomfortable wagon, but she would take these small victories while she still could. ‘’Mommy, what will happen…once we are there...?’’ Dazzle asked, even though he slept all night, it did not help clear his mind; he was just as terrified as he was before he slept. Lydia hesitated for a second, not knowing what would be best to tell her children. But she knew she had to be fully honest with them, they needed to start growing up and with growing up came the cold hard truth. ‘’I am sorry Dazzle, I don’t know what will happen with us. Let’s just hope for the best, can you do that for me you two?” Lydia gave them both a playful pinch on their cheek, just trying to cheer them up a bit. Both of them nodded, they too knew that there was a possibility that something bad would happen to them. Razzle and Dazzle sat in their mothers loving embrace, just trying to make best of the situation they were in. They were scared out of their minds, so they were glad that they still had each other. This beautiful moment would sadly not last forever, as their wagon suddenly came to a halt in front of the outer walls of the Florenzia kingdom.

The leader of the group got off of his horse and started walking over to the wagon and stepped onto it. ‘’Hope you three enjoyed the ride, now get up!’’ He roughly yanked the arms of the three upwards so that they would stand up, not caring if he would hurt them. He took them off the wagon and pushed them to the ground. ‘’Now boys, I will take our ‘’guests’’ to the king, when I return all of you have better put our horses and wagons where they belong, GET TO MOVING!’’  He yelled at his team of knights, clearly showing who their leader was. He did not care how ‘’mean’’ he was, nor did he care about the feelings of others. Dazzle’s mind was going crazy, he knew he had to stay strong and avoid shedding tears as to not further aggravate the big scary knight; but he simply couldn’t, it was all becoming too much for him. ‘’No, no- no! Dazzle! Come on, don’t cry…please!’’ Razzle tried comforting his brother, he did not want the knight to notice Dazzle was crying; scared as to what he might do if he did. Razzle wiped away Dazzle’s tears with the sleeve of his shirt and held his hand, they were lucky enough that the leader was still busy with his team of knights. ‘’T-thank you Razzle… I will do my best to stay strong.’’ *Sniff*.

--‘’YES SIR!” was said before the group of knights ran off to do their duties, leaving the three in the hands of their leader. The leader turned towards Lydia and her children and yanked them up once more. ‘’Now follow me, I think my king will be delighted to see what I brought along…’’ the knight with a loud snicker. And with that being said they walked towards the gates of the kingdom, which opened with a loud thud. As they took their first steps into the town they were immediately greeted by busy streets with tons of townsfolk and flowers blooming everywhere you looked. As they walked over the main- street they could already get a good look at the castle they would be going to, a huge staircase leading towards it being the only obstacle left to them meeting their uncertain fate. As they walked and walked Lydia tried her best shielding her children from the dirty looks they were receiving, it was clear that they weren’t really wanted here. She wondered if their journey was even a wise decision, would there truly be a place they would be accepted for who they are? And the mess they came into was something she never hoped for. She just wished the king wouldn’t do anything bad to them, because if he did she would never forgive herself for dragging her children into this.

‘’90 steps left…-- 60 steps left…-- 30 steps left…-- 10 steps left….’’ Lydia muttered under her breath during their trip up the stairs, counting down the steps till they would be at the top. She too was terrified and Razzle and Dazzle could sense it was bothering her. ‘’Mommy please calm down, it will all be okay if we just stick together! I promise..!’’ Razzle took the hand of his Mommy and squeezed it as hard as he could, the words and hand of her child luckily helping her calm down just as they arrived to the top of the stairs. Right Infront of them was the biggest castle Razzle and Dazzle ever laid there eyes upon. ‘’Wow… Dazzle isn’t this awesome? It’s even bigger then I imagined!’’ Even though the situation they were in was scary, Razzle’s innocent and cheerful mind was still super ecstatic. ‘’I guess so…I just wish we were here on better circumstances.’’ Dazzle sighed, even though they were sharing a body, he didn’t understand his brother sometimes; How could he be happy during times like these? As they arrived at the front doors of the castle the knight looked back at the three and snickered, finding their impending sense of doom amusing. He opened the doors of the castle and urged the three to enter, leading them towards the throne room where the king was usually to be found during the day. As the three walked their final few steps before finally meeting the king they thought about what would happen to them. Would they be thrown away in some dungeon to rot away forever? Would the king be merciful enough to let them go? Would they get separated? They never met the king, they never even set foot in the Florenzia kingdom. The only thing they could do now is hope for the best.

As the doors opened to the throne room they were blinded by heavy lighting and blooming flowers, the room was so extravagant that it almost felt like they actually were in a fantasy story. As they walked in the three all turned their heads down, they were too scared to look at the person who had their fates in his fingertips. As the knight walked in behind and looked at the throne of the king he couldn’t help but gasp at the sight of a small boy sitting on the kings seat. He rushed over to the mysterious boy to get him off the throne, completely forgetting about the family he brought along. The three looked up in surprise and then at each other, not expecting the king to be so…young?  ‘’Prince Dandy!? What are you doing on your fathers throne? Where is the king..?” the knight asked, he didn’t expect the king to just not be there and that took him by surprise. ‘’Dad is not here! I am the king of this empire now, Haha!!!’’ Dandy puffed his chest up, trying to look like the coolest and strongest person in the room. As Dandy did his tough guy act he glanced over to the three people that were at the other end of the room, he instantly jumped off the throne and ran over to them; the knight following closely behind.

‘’Well, well, well! What have you brought along for me today my faithful servant?’’ Dandy asked, he was excited to finally meet some people other than the servants and knights of his father. ‘’W-well prince Dandy… When we were heading back towards the kingdom we came across this mother with her odd monsters and we had to do something. Look at those two, they look like the devil. We must do something!’’ The knight muttered out, trying to keep his composure. Dandy suddenly turned back to the knight with an angry face, walking towards him at a threatening pace. ‘’Well I think they look super cool! Where do you get the guts to go around saying these kinds of things!? Bow down and apologize to them, or I will tell dad you were mean to me! The knight looked down at Dandy in shock but quickly followed his orders and kneeled down to the feet of the three. ‘’My sincerest apologies for the way I behaved towards you three, my actions are a great shame for the Florenzia kingdom and I hope you can find it in my heart to forgive me.’’ Razzle and Dazzle looked towards each other and then their mom and nodded, just wanting for all of it to be over. ‘’It’s okay we forgive you..’’ They said in unison, the knight sighed in relief and stood up again; glad Dandy wouldn’t be telling his dad about the ordeal.

Dandy walked up to Razzle and Dazzle and reached out his hand to greet the two, he truly couldn’t contain his excitement. ‘’My name is prince Dandy! I am so happy you guys are here, I just know we will be great friends.’’ Razzle and Dazzle were just as excited to meet someone their own age, the few times they were allowed outside no one really wanted much to do with them. As the three exchanged conversation they were interrupted by the sound of a door swinging open. As Dandy made eye contact with the person entering the room he immediately sprinted towards the door to hug the person. Razzle and Dazzle turned around just to be met with the actual king this time, suddenly their mood switched from excitement to fear. They quickly ran to their mommy to hide behind her before the king could notice the three of them in his throne room. ‘’Dad, dad! This knight brought some people along on his way back. They are really cool! Can they pleaseeeeee stay…?’’ Dandy batted his eyelashes, hoping his dad would agree. The king looked over to the small 2-headed children hiding behind what he assumed is their mother and walked over to them. He kneeled down to their level and spoke; ‘’Well hello you two, welcome to the Florenzia kingdom. It seems my son took a liking to you two so why don’t you guys play with him while I discuss some stuff with your mother.’’ He stood up again and gave them a smile. Razzle and Dazzle smiled back and with that walked over to Dandy while Lydia followed the king to his throne.

Dandy couldn’t contain his excitement and immediately dragged them to his bedroom. As Dandy opened the door Razzle and Dazzle looked around in shock, his bedroom was at least twice as big as their old house. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw how it looked from the inside; a gigantic bed, all kinds of different toys and even a private bathroom. The room was just as extravagant as they had imagined a castle’s bedroom would be like. Dandy sat on his bed and signaled for them to sit beside him, he wanted to talk about all sorts of things with them, he was just so glad that the two enjoyed his company just as much as he enjoyed theirs. ‘’I am so happy you guys are here! I really hope you two can stay… It’s been kind of lonely here…but that isn’t important right now. I am really glad that knight brought you three along, we are going to be such great friends!’’ as Dandy reached out to hold their hands Razzle felt his heart skip a beat, he really liked Dandy, he envied him but at the same time was mesmerized by how cool he was. ‘’W-well…! We are really happy too, even though that knight wasn’t really kind to us at all and even threw us around like we were nothing. Hahaha…ha..’’ Razzle suddenly felt super nervous, his words were a rambling mess and he couldn’t make eye contact with Dandy. Dazzle looked over at Razzle in surprise, why was he acting this way? Why did he tell Dandy about what happened between them and the knight. He would just have to talk with him about it later when they are alone. As Dazzle looked back towards Dandy he saw a slight glint of red in his eyes and a mysterious substance leaking from his fingertips. Dazzle realized this couldn’t be good and shook Dandy’s shoulder at an attempt to calm him down, he was scared to know what would happen if he didn’t intervene. ‘’Hey Dandy it’s okay, please calm down. E-even though he wasn’t kind to us we are fine now. Don’t…do anything rash please.’’ Dandy glanced over towards Dazzle and started to calm down, realizing that he should try his best to control his anger; not wanting to scare off the two. ‘’Haha I’m fine! Let us head back to my dad, but please do tell what exactly the knight did later.’’ And with that Dandy hopped off of his bed with Razzle and Dazzle following right behind.

As they walked towards the throne room with Dandy as their guide the two wondered about different things. Razzle being blissfully unaware of the situation that just happened was thinking about how cool Dandy was…so talented and funny. He knew they were going to be such great friends! Dazzle was a bit more skeptical of Dandy, he wondered what exactly had happened to Dandy after Razzle spilled what happened on their journey to the Florenzia kingdom, was Dandy just being protective? He knew it was best not to dwell about it any longer, maybe this was just a one-time thing…? Before the two knew it they were already in front of the throne room, they just hoped that the king would not be too harsh on them. Dandy turned around to the two and gave them a big hug, he truly hoped his father would let them stay. He knew that there’s a chance he could slip up once but he didn’t care about that, Dandy needed them to stay. ‘’I am so glad you two are here, please don’t ever hate me alright? I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you two did.. You guys are my first ever friends so I will make sure you guys can have the best lives I can offer, I promise.’’ Razzle and Dazzle looked at each other and then back towards Dandy. ‘’We could never hate you Dandy! We are going to be best friends forever! I promise.’’ Dandy sighed in relief and took a step back to open the doors to the throne room.

As they walked into the throne room the twins held hands for support, they hoped everything would just turn out alright for them and their mommy. Before they knew it they were standing right in front of the throne of the king. He looked so powerful yet scary in that huge chair. His petals were as bright-colored as could be and you could clearly see the resemblance between Dandy and his Father. Razzle and Dazzle scanned the room for their mom, but she was nowhere to be found. They started freaking out, their minds were making twists and turns; everything was becoming too much for them. But then suddenly the king gave Dandy a smile and stood up off of his throne and walked over towards Razzle and Dazzle; both visibly in tears, and kneeled down once more. ‘’Hey you two don’t cry your mother is doing alright. I have had a talk with her and we came up with a solution. I know Dandy has taken a liking to you two so I have decided to employ your mother as a servant. That way I can offer you three both a place to stay and some form of income.’’ Razzle and Dazzle looked up at the king and gave him a hug, though after a few seconds realizing what they did made them quickly take a few steps back with a nervous chuckle; the king just laughed it off and returned to his throne. Dandy jumped up and down in joy and immediately sprinted towards the two. ‘’Oh this is the best day ever! Thank you Daddy!’’ Dandy couldn’t believe his dad agreed to this, but he was so happy that he didn’t even care about it.

‘’I have to talk with Dandy so I think it’s best if you two get some rest now, I assume it has been a long day. If you just walk over to the door on the left you should be able to find the hallway to the servants quarters, your mother will be waiting there.’’ Razzle and Dazzle nodded their heads and waved Dandy goodbye before walking off. As they were almost at the door Dazzle suddenly stopped moving. ‘’Huh..? Dazzle what are you doing?” Razzle asked, not knowing why they stopped. ‘’Shhhh- Razzle.. I just want to hear what the King and Dandy are talking about, I will explain why later.’’ Razzle and Dazzle took a few steps back and hid behind a pillar to listen in. ‘’Dandy I will only allow this once because I can tell you are struggling, but if you mess this up for yourself you know I don’t have any choice but to kick them out for their own safety, you understand?’’ Razzle didn’t understand why the king would say that, Dandy couldn’t do anything bad…right? ‘’Yes father…I understand. I will do my best not to disappoint you.’’ And with that Dandy walked off towards his bedroom. ‘’This was weird Dazzle! What could the king even mean with this?’’ Razzle asked, Dazzle knew something and he just wanted to know too. ‘’Look.. I will explain what I saw but let’s just get back to mommy first, alright?’’  Razzle nodded his head and the two made their way back  to the way they were supposed to be going.

As they opened the doors to the servants quarters they weren’t expecting a lot, it were the servants quarters after all. But to their surprise they were met with an actual comfortable living space, it seemed each servant shared a room with one other person and there was even a common area for everyone to use. The walls were beautifully decorated with the same flowers u could find basically everywhere else in the castle. As they were walking around they saw a few people here and there but no one was the person they were looking for. Worry was setting in the minds of both of them, where could she be? Why didn’t they ask for directions… They were just hoping she was alright. ‘’Dazzle, I think we might have to ask someone for directions.’’ Razzle suggested, not wanting to get lost even further. ‘’I think you are right, let’s just hope not everyone is as mean as that knight was.’’

The two walked and walked and walked, looking for someone who they thought would be willing to help them. As they were almost prepared to just go back and ask the king for help they suddenly came across an old apple-headed lady with a cooking apron, they assumed she was a chef in the castle. They really didn’t want to go back and ask the king or look even further; they were slowly running out of energy for the day, so they decided it had to be her. They shuffled over to the lady and gently shook her leg to get her attention, they just hoped that she would be as nice as she looked.  ‘’Hey miss, me and my brother are looking for our mommy, she should be around here somewhere or at least in her room… Could you help us?’’ The lady turned around and as she took a look at the small children standing in front of her she immediately smiled. Razzle and Dazzle sighed in relief, glad they picked out the right person to ask for help. ‘’Well hello you two! I am sure I can be of help, I assume your mommy is the girl who arrived here just today?’’ Razzle and Dazzle looked at each other in relief, happy that she was in fact around here somewhere, and then nodded their heads. ‘’Well just follow me, I will take you two to the room she is staying in.’’ The woman extended her hand for them to hold on to and they happily obliged.

As the three walked around the servants quarters Razzle and Dazzle couldn’t believe their eyes, it was even bigger than they had anticipated, this castle truly was gigantic. Their daydreaming was suddenly interrupted by a question of the old lady, ‘’You two truly are one of a kind! What can I call you two?’’ She asked. Razzle and Dazzle were surprised by the interest of this woman but they were happy she was actually nice, so they happily obliged to her interrogation. ‘’I am Razzle! And this here is Dazzle. Sorry if you don’t hear him a lot he’s kind of shy.’’  The old lady looked towards Dazzle and gave him a nod of understanding and a smile, which made Dazzle give a tiny smile in return. ‘’What beautiful names I must say…way better than mine that’s for sure! You can just call me miss Abby.’’ After a few more minutes of walking and talking they arrived in front of a door where they came to a stop. Miss Abby turned around and kneeled down to give them hug which they gladly accepted. ‘’This is where your mother is staying, I hope I will see you two around sometime! Go now, she must have been waiting on your arrival.’’ And with that she walked over towards the distance to continue her duties.

Razzle and Dazzle opened the door and with a sigh of relief, were met with their mom sound asleep in her bed. They knew she must have been tired and that she hasn’t slept since they got caught by those knights. But they didn’t care that she forgot to pick them up, they were just glad that she was okay. Razzle and Dazzle took a quick but silent look around the room, yes it wasn’t anything big but it had everything they needed; A bathroom to prepare for the day or just to get clean and a comfortable bed to sleep in at night. They tip-toed to their bed as to not awake their mommy and quickly hid under the sheets; They needed to have a talk. ‘’I think it’s time you tell me why you wanted to listen in to their conversation Dazzle!” Razzle wanted answers and he wanted them now. ‘’Well…after you told Dandy about the way the knight behaved I suddenly saw a faint glint of red in his eyes and a mysterious black substance leaking from his fingertips…I had to calm him down because I was afraid it would get out of hand.’’ Razzle looked at Dazzle in surprise, he didn’t even notice that happened in the slightest, too busy daydreaming about him. Razzle was silent, he didn’t know what to think of it. ‘’Maybe it was just a one-time thing? I am sure it will all be fine Dazzle! Haha…’’ Dazzle sighed but decided to just drop it, not wanting to awake the person sleeping close by.  ‘’If you say so Razzle, I think it’s best if we go to sleep it’s been a long day…’’

Razzle and Dazzle dreamt about different things that night. Razzle dreamt about how it would be to rule his own kingdom, how it would be like to have the respect they deserve. Dazzle….He dreamt about something else that night. He was walking in a black void, just walking and walking and walking. Just as it seemed that that was everything that was going to happen, he was suddenly met with the sounds of sobbing all around him. Then, there he was; Dandy, who was just standing there with his back turned towards Dazzle. ’’Dandy? What are you doing here..? Is everything-…’’ Before Dazzle could finish talking Dandy had already turned around, as the two exchanged eye contact Dazzle was met with blood-shot eyes and the same mysterious substance leaking from his eyeballs. Dandy’s teeth were sharp and his fingers seemed to have turned into sharp claws. Before Dazzle could even react Dandy lunged at him and Dazzle quickly shot awake. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t stop his tears from forming. What was this dream even supposed to mean? Was this a warning or just his imagination? Luckily for him he didn’t awake Razzle or his Mommy, he didn’t want to bother either of them with his nightmare. As the tears were fading away and he started calming down again he tried his best to go back to sleep, but that wouldn’t be happening this night. Dazzle felt alone for the first time in a long while that night, but he knew he had to get over it. Everything would turn out alright in the end, if they just stick together...right?

Chapter Text

‘Dazzle, Daaaaazzzzleeee!!! HEY DAZZLE WAKE UP!!!!’  Razzle was trying to wake up his brother, it was time to start the day, and he couldn’t wait any longer! As Dazzle slowly opened his eyes, he was met with a bright ''hello!'' from the morning sun. Though this wasn’t the first time that day he was met with the morning sun, in fact Dazzle saw it just an hour ago. He was finally able to sleep again after the nightmare he had and then Razzle had to wake him up again. He knew this wasn’t going to work out well for him today, especially after the hectic day yesterday which left him basically drained. Dazzle hoped this was just a one-time thing, he didn’t want to affect Razzle by having a lack of energy because bad things happen when one of them does. Everything would turn out okay if he just conserved his energy today…. He hoped so at least. The two quickly got out of their beds and went to the bathroom to prepare for the day.

As they walked into the bathroom, they came across a note written by their mommy, Razzle quickly grabbed it off the counter and attempted to read it aloud. ‘’I….am- gluh-gla-a-ad.. that you twoh m-made it back safe. I am al….already starting my first day at my new j- job!’’ I will see... you guys toh-night. Much love, mom.’  Razzle chuckled and put the note down to brush his teeth, as he was brushing his teeth, he noticed something was off about Dazzle… He wasn’t really talking at all, but he wasn’t even doing much in the first place. Razzle quickly finished up what needed to be done and just tried to forget about the way Dazzle was behaving, if he wasn’t feeling well, he would tell him, right?  Even though he was worried about him he knew he could trust his brother to tell him the truth.

The two finished what needed to be done before heading out for their first official day as….as….as what exactly…? They didn’t even know what to do during the day, were they supposed to hang out with Dandy all day? Well, they wouldn’t want to ask the king, even Razzle was too nervous to approach someone as powerful as him. As the two sat on their bed, pondering about what to do with their day, Razzle thought the best course of action would be to just walk around till they found Dandy! That way they could explore the castle a bit more aswell! As Razzle gave himself a pat on the back, being as proud as can be thinking of such an awesome idea, he looked over towards Dazzle once more. As he stared into the eyes of his twin brother, he just saw…emptiness, not the emptiness Dazzle always had…it was something far more serious than before. Razzle started to get worried, they never really experienced what it would be like if they didn’t have the energy to get through the day, their Mommy always made sure they got the rest they needed; and even if it did happen, they would have been too young to remember. As Razzle laid his hand on Dazzle’s shoulder Dazzle suddenly went back to his usual self, snapping out of the trance he was in. ’Are you okay Dazzle!? You have been out of it since you woke up.’ Razzle tilted his head in confusion, wanting answers as to why Dazzle was behaving this way. ‘’Huh…? Oh, I am fine Razzle. Please don’t worry about me. Let’s just get going, alright?” Dazzle tried avoiding eye contact, just staring at the ground below them. He didn’t want to tell his brother about the reason why he was acting this way. He knew Razzle really liked Dandy; he could tell when they first laid eyes upon him, he didn’t want to tarnish the relationship the two had. Razzle decided it was best to listen to his brother’s wishes for now and the two got up to finally start their day.

As the two walked around the servant's quarters, looking for a bite to eat, they realized that even in a place that wasn't their home, it would still be full of people who wouldn't be fond of them. People were giving them looks and whispering words they knew weren't positive, could there ever be a place that would truly accept them? Razzle and Dazzle just decided to pick up their walking pace to quickly find something to eat, not having a meal since they arrived yesterday made them quite hungry. They knew they had to look for it themselves this time, no one would be as willing to help as miss Abby was. After a bit of searching, they finally managed to find the dining area, it was full of all different kinds of people: maids, knights, and even some really cool jesters. Razzle and Dazzle were always really interested in jesters, they were always preparing jokes in their free time and even practicing their acrobatics...even if that didn't go really well. They hoped that 1 day they too could give people a smile on their faces, that people would laugh with them instead of at them, that people would appreciate their talent. Razzle and Dazzle walked over towards the multiple chefs handing out meals and walked over to the one that seemed the nicest, hoping that the chef wouldn't be mean towards them, oh how wrong they were.

''Good morning, sir! Could we have some of that delicious food you are serving? It looks really tasty!' Razzle gave the chef a big smile, maybe being nice would help? The chef looked the two up and down and his regular expression transformed into one with disgust. ''And what are you two doing here? Do you actually think I would serve the spawns of Satan? Don't make me laugh!' Razzle was taken aback by the sudden harshness of the innocent looking man but not surprised, he wishes he wasn't getting used to the nasty comments and bad treatment but that was the reality. As the chef laughed and laughed and laughed in their faces, mocking their entire existence, a person they had met before and cared about deeply for the kindness they showed decided to step in to de-escalate the situation. ''Hey young man be nice to those two! Where do you find the courage to treat others like that? Don't make me put you on dishwashing duty!' The young chef suddenly dropped his mean-guy act and apologized to the old lady before scurrying off before her threats became a reality.

Razzle and Dazzle looked up at the woman standing there with stars in their eyes, they were so happy she was there to save the day! Razzle quickly maneuvered towards the woman to give her a big hug. ''Thank you miss Abby! That bully didn't want to serve us any food...' Razzle looked down with a sad expression, even he could be affected by the mean comments every once in a while. Abby kneeled down to their level and raised Razzle's chin; she tilted her head and gave a look of understanding, she just wanted to comfort the children, they shouldn't have to endure bullying because of the way they look, the way they are, the way they have been born. Razzle looked down in uncertainty one last time but then decided it was best for the time being to just suck it up, he could always rely on storing his true feelings and emotions away when it all got too much for him for a bit, he knew it wasn't the smartest solution as one day it could all become too much, but decided to continue the habit anyways.

Razzle quickly became his usual cheerful self again and gave miss Abby one more hug. ''I hope you can help us a biiiiiit more miss Abby! Me and Dazzle are staaaarving! And I feel like Dazzle needs the energy boost at the moment...haahaa...' Razzle chuckled awkwardly, he still had a bad feeling in the back of his mind, something was surely wrong with Dazzle, he just hoped this was a one-time issue. Miss Abby quickly got up to whip up 2 filling plates of food for the two children, maybe even a bit too filling. She handed one of the two plates over to Razzle and even prepared a third plate for herself to join them. The three walked over towards an empty table, all the while ignoring the judgmental stares they were receiving. No one understood Abby, she was always a kind person, too kind some might even say, because of this people didn't particularly like her.  How could a person be this naive, so carefree? As the three sat down to eat it truly felt like it was just the three of them in that room. They were exchanging funny memories and even dreams they have or used to have. ''Wow miss Abby! I am surprised you have only been a chef here for a few years! What were you doing before you became one?'  As Abby looked up from her plate in shock, not expecting the question from the child's mouth. ''Yea miss Abby, you must have been doing other stuff then?'' Even Dazzle managed to chime into the conversation, the surprisingly delicious food giving him some temporary energy.

Abby was silent for a while, not knowing where to even start, but she did know that the truth was always the way to go. ''Well, it's not anything special so don't have too high expectations, but up until a few years ago I used to be a part of the royal knights here. You wouldn't believe it if you saw me, but I even was the commander of a group of knights once. But something bad happened to me on a battlefield during a war and I had to call it quits. I was in a bad place after that, but I found a way to tackle the outcome of my situation and turn it into something I still love to do to this day.' She looked down with a smile and embraced her warm coffee mug, she didn't have any regrets about the choices that she made, even though she may have lost a part of her, a new door opened because of it. Razzle and Dazzle both looked at her with even more awe than before. She truly was the coolest person they had ever met. ''You are so amazing miss Abby! Pleaaaaseeeeeee tell us more about your time as commander!' Razzle pleaded, hoping that she would oblige. She looked back up with a smile and chuckled, she was glad that she managed to cheer the two up. ''I think it's best if I save those stories for another time! You two should finish your meals before they get cold.' Razzle and Dazzle sighed in disappointment but were glad either way that she would be willing to share more of her stories in the future. The two quickly finished their meals and waved goodbye to miss Abby before getting up from their seats and exiting the dining hall.

As Razzle and Dazzle walked around the gigantic halls of the castle, Dazzle suddenly decided to speak up about the way he was behaving this morning. ''Thank you, Razzle, I was really tired this morning, but you helped us get around. I am doing a bit better now.' Dazzle gave Razzle a tiny smile, glad that he could rely on his brother when he had it a bit rough. ''Aw, no worries, Dazzle! I am glad you are doing better now.' Razzle returned an even bigger smile towards Dazzle; he was happy that Dazzle seemed to be okay now. ''Let's look for Dandy now, alright? He must be somewhere around the castle...'' Hearing Dazzle say that made Razzle almost jump in the air from excitement. He really liked Dandy, like really REALLY.. liked him. His looks, his personality, his laugh... He truly was the most amazing person he ever laid his eyes on. Without wasting another second Razzle quickly picked up their pace of walking to find Dandy as soon as possible. The two searched for a while, they searched for him in the ballroom, in his bedroom, in the throne room, but no matter where they checked, he was nowhere to be found. Razzle and Dazzle decided to sit down for a while in one of the hallways, all this walking around made them tired.

After sitting down for a while they realized they really had to discuss with Dandy how to find him more easily in this gigantic castle, they couldn't be doing this every day. Razzle and Dazzle looked out the window behind them and were met with the most beautiful garden they had ever seen, trees were blossoming, and flowers were blooming. It truly was magical, only a garden could look this beautiful in the Florenzia kingdom. As they gazed further and further, their eyes constantly seeing something new that was just as beautiful as the thing before, their eyes locked onto a certain flower sitting in a field of flowers. ''That's Dandy, Dazzle!! Quick let's go!!!!'' And before Dazzle could even react Razzle had already forced their way up and quickly sprinted towards the ground floor of the castle to find the entrance to the garden. After a little bit of searching, they managed to find the entrance of the garden, without a second of hesitation Razzle quickly opened the door and walked in. The two finally took the breath of fresh air they longed for, all the while looking at all the beautiful flowers surrounding them. Though these other flowers had to wait for Razzle and Dazzle's attention, because a much more important flower was sitting nearby.

Razzle and Dazzle slowly walked over towards Dandy, as they walked further and further, they could see him just..sitting there, staring up towards the sky. Dazzle wasn't too excited to see Dandy again, he just hoped that today would be different, that today nothing bad would happen. He hoped that at night, he could just sleep like normal again and not have to worry about dreaming about him again. He knew that he had to push through, he knew how much his brother cared about Dandy, he knew he couldn't let his emotions get in the way of that. Dazzle's thoughts were quickly washed away when Razzle decided to cut it short, waving hello to Dandy. The flower quickly turned his head around, instantly recognizing the voice that spoke to him, and quickly got up in excitement; he too missed the twins...even though he just met them yesterday, his heart felt incomplete when they weren't around. ''I am so glad you two found me! I missed you both so much. Come, come! Sit with me.' Dandy sat down at his original spot and tapped the ground next to him with his hands so as to give the twins a place for them to sit down.

Razzle and Dazzle hurriedly made their way over towards Dandy and sat down next to him. The two both closed their eyes and felt the warm rays of sunlight hitting their faces. Razzle and Dazzle truly felt at peace; they were so glad that they found a place they could call home. There was a silence that fell between the three, but it wasn't bad, not even in the slightest, it was a peaceful silence that only the strongest relationships could truly enjoy. They didn't care that they met just a day ago, all three of them grew up in isolation, so to finally have someone to rely on...felt truly amazing. For a moment even Dazzle forgot about the nightmare he had, after so long of worrying he could finally relax for a bit. After a little while, Razzle decided to break the silence between the three, he didn't mind the silence, but he really wanted to do fun stuff! ''Sorry it took so long to find you Dandy!  We got kind of lost hahaha...This castle is so huge!' Razzle chuckled awkwardly, he knew he had to get rid of his nerves when talking to Dandy for sure, he didn't want to look like some Klutz. Dandy looked towards Razzle and gave him a big smile, taking in the compliments Razzle was feeding him. ''Of course this castle is huge! A castle this big is only mandatory for a future king like me! Tell you what, why don't I pick you two up every morning, that way we can eat breakfast together and you won't have to look all over to find me!'

Dandy was super proud of his idea; this would mean that they had even more time to spend together. Razzle was ecstatic about Dandy's idea and without thinking, gave Dandy a big hug, catching him by surprise. Dazzle too was shocked that Razzle decided to force the prince into a hug, he quickly took control of their body and moved back. As Razzle looked at Dandy for a few seconds, who was staring at nothing with a nervous smile, made it quickly click in his head what exactly he had done. ''Sorry Dandy! I don't think Razzle knew what he was doing-'' ''-Hahahahahahhaha yea! I- am so...so sorry, pleaseeeee don't be mad.'' Razzle said with teary eyes, because in comparison to Dandy, who had interacted with a bunch of people at different events, neither Razzle nor Dazzle were used to socializing much so any social cues would fly right over their heads. Dandy quickly regained his composure, not wanting to make Razzle feel bad about what he had done. ''Hey- hey, it's okay don't worry. I was just caught by surprise that's all.'  Dandy grabbed Razzle's hand with one hand and wiped away Razzle's tears with the other. ''Thank you, Dandy. I didn't know what came over me.' Razzle chuckled; he too was surprised by his own actions.  ''No worries, Razzle. let's get out of here now, okay? We have tons of fun stuff to do!' Dandy stood up with a swift motion and helped the twins to get up as well. He was so excited, it truly felt like this was all just a dream. But it wasn't just a dream, this was the reality, and he would try his best to keep it that way.

The three spent the entire day together, doing all sorts of different things: trying out different games, playing pranks, acting, practicing their acrobatics, more talking. The day went by so fast that it was over before they knew it and it was already time for bed. Dandy had decided to add something else to his master plan, he would even bring them back to their room at night. So they wouldn't get lost and wander around for ages again. As the three arrived at the room the twins were staying in, the three couldn't believe that they had to say goodbye for the day, they had so much fun! Tomorrow was sure to be a great day again. ''Thank you for today, we had a lot of fun hanging out with you.'' Dazzle said, despite not sharing a lot of interests with Dandy, even he had fun doing things he would normally not do. ''No problem, Dazzle. I will see you two tomorrow! Good night and sleep well.' And with that Dandy walked away into the distance. The two slowly entered the room, so as not to wake up their sleeping mommy, but to their surprise she was still awake, brushing her hair in front of the mirror. ''Mommy!'' The two said in unison before running over towards her, they hadn't talked to her since they first left with Dandy, so they missed talking to her. Lydia quickly turned around and gave them a hug, she too missed her children. ''Welcome back you two! I am so proud of you two managing to spend the day alone. I hope you two had fun.' She felt relieved that she could rely on them to make it through a day without her being there. ''It was lots of fun Mommy! We struggled a bit finding our way around, but we managed to make it work. How was your day?'  Razzle missed his mommy a lot, it was difficult to be without her when they were by her side all these years, but he was glad that they managed to do it. ''My day was great, thank you for asking Razzle. Now, why don't you two get some sleep? It must have been a long day. I have to work the entire day tomorrow but the day after we can do lots of things together, I promise!' After saying that she put her two children to bed and tucked them in before giving them both a goodnight kiss. Before she could even get up the two already dozed off into dreamland, all those activities they did really put a number on them. Lydia looked at her two precious children with a smile, she was so happy with her life at that moment, she had a feeling that maybe everything would turn out okay in the end. And with that feeling, she managed to sleep well for the first time in a long while.

Razzle and Dazzle both dreamt about Dandy that night, though they were very different dreams. Razzle dreamt about how him and Dandy would still be great friends even in the future, that they would still hang out every day and have as much fun as the day before. Dazzle on the other hand, dreamt once more about the black void like the day before. He truly thought this was just a one-time thing, but nothing was further from the truth. He was walking, just walking. Walking like he did yesterday. He saw Dandy once more in the distance, crying. He knew what was to come, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop his body from moving closer and closer. As he approached Dandy something was...different. By now Dandy should have already lunged at him, making Dazzle jump awake. But he didn't. ''Is everything okay, Dandy...? Please don't attack me.'  He was scared, what could he say? Would he attack if Dazzle said the wrong thing? ''Why me, why did it have to be me, I didn't ask for this!" Dandy muttered, still sobbing as hard as before. Dazzle didn't know what to tell him, especially because he didn't know what exactly happened. As Dazzle stood there in silence his hand suddenly moved towards Dandy's shoulder, he didn't want to, but he didn't know how to stop it from happening. The second it happened he realized he shouldn't have done it, because Dandy immediately turned his head around in anger and lunged at Dazzle, making him wake up once again in shock. As Dazzle laid awake that night, not being able to sleep after the nightmare he had, he thought about what Dandy said in his dream. What had happened? Why did it have to be him? He knew this wasn't going to be an easy task, but he knew that he had to keep dreaming this dream every single night to hopefully figure out what was going on with that flower, for his sake but especially for Razzle's sake. He had to protect his brother, no matter what.

Notes:

Thank you once more for reading this chapter :),

Id like to apologize for it being kind of short, i wanted to add more but I am in sort of a time crunch. The next chapter MIGHT take even longer then this (even though this was a mix of being lazy and being busy). I have exams coming up so I really gotta focus on that, but I really wanted to give you guys another chapter before i really have to start studying. I will try to write a bit when I can and want during my exams but no promises. Thank you all for the support ive been recieving it makes me really happy :)

just some small info;
In this AU Razzle and Dazzle control their body together, but with intense emotions from one of them or if the other ''allows it'' Either one of them can temporarily take full control.
Both Razzle and Dazzle and Dandy are the age of 10 FOR NOW!. I feel like thats an age where they can still be childish but also start forming some more serious thoughts. There will be timeskips later on obviously but for now all three are 10 years old :)

Razzle and Dazzle called miss Abby ''old'' in chapter 2 but she isn't like super old, that is just the way they first portrayed/saw her as. She is still a very strong woman who can easily floor someone who pisses her off haha.

Chapter 4: Consequences

Notes:

Hi! It's been a while :) I hope you enjoy this chapter!
again be prepared for bad writing, I am still learning..But I hope you like it nonetheless!

Chapter Text

‘’Wake up sleepy heads! It’s a brand-new day just waiting to be lived, quick, quick! Get up!’’ Dandy shook the twins awake like usual, it has been a few weeks since the twins have arrived to the castle, they have gotten so used to living here that the morning wake-up call by Dandy, who is always awake bright and early,  has basically turned into routinely moment in their day to look forward to. Razzle always enjoyed Dandy’s presence, even when Razzle first laid eyes on him he immediately felt so much enjoyment out of being around him. Dazzle on the other hand felt a bit more apprehensive about the entire situation, every, single, night, he had the same exact dream about Dandy, and every, single, night it ended the same way; Him touching the shoulder of the sobbing flower, getting attacked, and then not sleeping for the rest of the night. Dazzle managed to cover up his lack of sleep every day, but it was starting to get to him, with each passing day he felt the energy fading faster and faster and it was starting to worry him. He felt trapped, he couldn’t tell anyone about this and especially not his brother, who was so happy now that they finally met someone who truly understands them. Dazzle tried every night to get answers as to what was going on with Dandy, but to no avail.

The twins slowly sat upwards, each bone in their body struggling to do what is needed. ‘’Good morning, Dandy…How are you?’’ Razzle said, his usually cheery self was nowhere to be seen, it felt like their own body was suddenly  failing them and Razzle didn’t know why. As Dandy took a good look at the two his face suddenly changed from happy to a face of concern, his mood instantly switching. ‘’Woa, woa, woa! Are you two okay? You both look really pale… Is everything alright?” Dandy quickly put his hands on both foreheads to check their temperature; their heads were so warm it felt like his hands were burning off. Dazzle didn’t say anything, him being even worse off than Razzle.  ‘’I don’t know what is going on either, we have never been sick before…I am sorry Dandy, you should probably go… I don’t want you to catch whatever we are having.’’  What Razzle didn’t know was that this wasn’t an illness of sorts that was causing it, but rather the lack of sleep Dazzle was getting being the issue. Their own body was shutting down on them and it was freaking both of them out. Although Dandy appreciated the thoughtfulness of Razzle there was no way that he would leave them now, especially not in the state they were currently in. ‘’Nonsense Razzle! I can’t just leave you two when you are sick, I will gladly take the risk of falling ill myself for you two.’ And with that Dandy immediately pushed the twins back down into their beds and tucked them in so that they could be as comfortable as possible. ‘’I will be back in a bit! You two better stay put till I return.’ Dandy said before quickly rushing out the door so as to not leave their side for too long.’

After a little while Razzle and Dazzle were shook awake from their nap by Dandy, who had brought some chicken soup and tea for both of them. Standing right next to him was a tall toon with a white coat and mask on, who wasn’t too fond of the twins, judging by his eyes and the way they glared at the two. ‘’I am glad to see that you two were able to get some sleep, I brought chicken soup and tea and one of our Castle’s doctors to take a look at you both!’’ Dandy gave them a comforting smile and took a few steps back to let the doctor do his job. The doctor walked up to the twins with annoyance, not really keen on treating the infamous ‘’gifts from Satan’’. He roughly ‘’helped’’ the twins up into a seating position so he could treat the two, after that he proceeded to jab around in the mouths with the same amount of roughness he sat them up with. With every single thing the doctor was doing he was making sure that they felt either uncomfortable as can be or even hurt them oh so slightly, the twins didn’t even have the energy to say something about what was happening.  The doctor didn’t even understand why the prince cared about these monsters. As Dandy was looking more and more at how the doctor was treating the twins he was starting to get angrier and angrier and angrier… He didn’t understand why someone who was supposed to care for people would treat those like dirt… and especially the two he cared about most. His anger was starting to overtake his mind; the only thing he could think of was hurting that wretched doctor who dared to treat his best friends like that.

Because Razzle was basically out of it, he couldn’t notice the sudden change of his best friend, but that was all that Dazzle could see at this moment, and he was terrified. He saw those disturbing red eyes filled with rage, the sharp teeth that could bite into anything and those claws which were stained with that mysterious black substance. He tried to say something to hopefully make Dandy calm down but to no avail, he was simply too weak to even mutter out words. Dandy walked up towards the doctor who was kneeling down and sank his sharp claws deep into the shoulder of the doctor, who in response suddenly froze. ‘’I think it’s best you leave now doctor, you have done enough.’’ And with that Dandy grabbed the doctor by his now blood-stained coat to pull him upwards. They both walked towards the door which Dandy roughly opened with ease and before the doctor left, Dandy whispered something to him which shook him to his very core, and with that quickly took off.

Dazzle tried his best to stop himself from crying out of fear, what would happen if Dandy knew that Dazzle saw everything? He tried and tried and tried and tried, but to no avail. The tears were streaming down his face and there was no end to it. The mix of being ‘’sick’’ and what happened just now was all too much for him. Dandy quickly ran over to the twins after hearing the sobs of Dazzle, seemingly being back to his original state. ‘’Hey, don’t cry Dazzle! That mean doctor is gone now, I am here for you.’’ Dandy wiped away Dazzle’s tears with a reassuring smile. But all Dazzle could see was the monster he saw in his dreams every night. He wanted to say something, anything, but he couldn't. His body was simply too tired from everything that happened. ‘’Look, Razzle is already asleep… Maybe you should get some rest as well. I will stay by your side Dazzle and give you the best dreams possible, I promise.’’ Dazzle quietly laid down and closed his eyes, hoping that Dandy would keep his promise. He couldn’t afford to get the same nightmare as he always did, he didn’t want to make Razzle suffer again like he had to today.

As Dazzle drifted into the land of dreams he was met with a different scene than the one he has been seeing ever since they arrived at the castle. It was a large field that stretched as far as the eye could see and further. There was a beautiful sunset and a nice gentle breeze that felt nice to his face. The field was filled with every flower imaginable, but one particular flower stood out from all the other flowers, its rainbow petals shining oh-so-beautifully against the beams of sunlight. As he stared at the flower it felt like his legs started getting a mind of its own just like in the nightmares he always had. As he approached the flower sitting in the field he suddenly came to a halt. As the flower slowly turned around Dazzle froze once more, terrified that he would be met with his impending doom once more. But as the flower looked straight at Dazzle with a big warm smile it wasn’t gnawing red eyes Dazzle was met with. ‘’I saved a spot for you Dazzle, come sit with me.’’ Dandy gestured with his hands to a spot right next to him, urging Dazzle to join him. Dazzle hesitated for a second before ultimately accepting Dandy’s offer.

As the two sat together enjoying a comfortable silence, staring at the beautiful sky beaming with all different shades of pink, yellow, and orange, Dandy finally spoke up. ‘’I am sorry you have to endure me every night Dazzle, it was never my intention to make you fall ill because of it. If I could I’d take all your worries and problems away every time you slept.. but I’m afraid that’s not possible. I need you to save me.’’ Dandy stared intensely at Dazzle, wanting to make sure he knew the seriousness of the situation. ‘’You can’t let the Dandy in your world know that you know his true form, or else chaos will be bound to happen.. please be strong, I know you can do it.’’ Dazzle tried to speak up but Dandy quickly shushed him. ‘’You don’t need to say anything my dear friend, why don’t you rest for a while, you deserve it.’’ And with that Dazzle laid his head on Dandy’s lap, suddenly feeling an uncontrollable slumber falling upon him. As Dazzle felt that his eyes were harder and harder to keep open he stopped trying to fight it, he finally felt the relief he was yearning for all this time. He really needed this, the reassurance that everything would be okay, he knew he had to stop being scared of Dandy. That flower never asked to be this way either. Dazzle would do everything in his power to save Dandy, for everyone’s sake.

When Dazzle opened his eyes he was back in his room, birds were chirping lively and beams of sunlight were shining into the room, how long did he sleep exactly? ‘’You are finally awake Dazzle! I hope you slept well…I sure did! I am feeling much better than yesterday.’’ Razzle said excitedly, relieved that the hell on earth was finally over. As Dazzle slowly moved he also seemingly felt fine again. The peaceful dream being all he needed to get the energy back he had been lacking since those nightmares started. ‘’Good morning my dears, I am glad to see you two are doing better now. I am sorry I wasn’t here yesterday but Dandy let me know that he took great care of you two.’’ Lydia was relieved that they had a friend who they could rely on. ‘’Good morning Mommy.. Why aren’t you in your uniform..? What’s happening?’’ Dazzle tilted his head, curious as to what was going on. ‘’Oh dear, did you forget already? I promised when I had time off work that I would go spend the day with you two!’’ Amidst the chaos over the past few days, he has totally forgotten the promise his mommy made, but he is excited nonetheless, glad to spend some quality time with her. They haven’t really seen her a lot ever since they arrived at the castle, their routines simply not matching up, so the twins would make sure that they would enjoy this day to its full potential!

As Lydia helped her children get ready for the day, brushing their teeth and putting their clothes on nicely, something she wasn’t able to do the last couple of days, the doors to their room suddenly swung open. As the three glanced over to their doorway they were met with none other than Prince Dandy, who was eager to spend his day with his bests of friends! ‘’Oh, hello Dandy! It’s so great to see you!!’’ Razzle exclaimed excitedly, with Dazzle following up with a tiny smile. Dandy quickly walked over with a big smile and took a good look at the twins for a few seconds before giving a big sigh of relief. ‘’Well, it seems you two have recovered soundly! It’s good to see you two up and going again. Are you guys ready to spend the day having lots of fun! Ooooo I have so much planned out for today…we have to catch up from not being able to do any..-’’ As Dandy was rambling, seemingly in his own world, he suddenly stopped when he saw the awkward faces of the twins. ‘’I’m sorry Dandy, we can’t play today…Our mommy took the day off from work and she promised us that she would spend the day with us when she did..’’ Razzle and Dazzle looked at Dandy with apologizing faces, feeling bad for having to refuse him. ‘’B-but…that’s not fair! We weren’t able to hang out yesterday either! Come on guys! Please!?’’ Dandy muttered out, it wasn’t usually a thing for him to get rejected like that, and he didn’t like it one bit.

Rage was seeping into his veins just like it did yesterday, but this time it wasn’t directed at a wretched being who dared to have ill intent towards his best friends.. This time it was the being who the twins held most dear, their mother. How dare she take away his best friends! ‘’ He’’ gave her….no…them, everything! The least she could do is let him have this 1 small thing!? Once more he felt like he was losing himself, a strong force slowly taking over his body, one he couldn’t control, one he couldn’t prevent from appearing when he felt injustice towards things he held oh-so-dear. Dandy didn’t want the twins to see him like this, what would they think of him if they saw him like the monster he was? As his claws were slowly appearing once more he quickly ran out of the room with the last ounce of self-control left in his body. As Dandy ran out Dazzle saw once more how something took over that flower’s mind. He was worried to say the least, did he actually become angry because they wanted to spend time with their mommy? Was this anger directed at their mommy? So many questions were racing around in his mind but they abruptly came to an end when Razzle spoke up. ‘’Hah…I am sure he’s fine… We can spend extra time with him tomorrow, that way it will even out. Is that okay with you, Dazzle?’’ Razzle asked, with Dazzle silently nodding in approval. ‘’That’s an amazing idea, dear. I think it’s time we head out, let’s go!’’ Lydia said, and with that the family took off towards the town they haven’t been able to explore since they arrived.

As they took their first steps out into the public since they arrived they were met with busy streets filled to the brim with people living their daily lives.  The three walked down the stairs they once had to climb in fear, scared that their lives may had been over before it could be lived. They consider themselves extremely lucky that the king and his prince showed so much kindness towards them, a kindness not often given because of the way they looked…the way they are. Every day Lydia prayed, prayed to anyone that could hear her prayers, she prayed that one day her children could live in a world where they could live happily, a world where they didn’t have to be hated on purely for their existence. As the three continued further down the stairs to the town Dazzle couldn’t help but worry about what happened in their room with Dandy. Why would he become so angry that he would once more gain those claws, and was this truly directed at the person the twins cared so much about? He was conflicted, maybe it was truly time to tell someone about the things he knew, maybe together…they could help Dandy! Even though he immediately wanted to discuss the things he knew and saw with his mommy, he decided that the best course of action was to wait until they were back in their room, so as to not have any potential eavesdroppers.

The three spent their entire day exploring the busy streets of Florenzia, even though there were people once more giving them stares, they simply ignored it, what mattered most was that they were together and no one could come between that. As the sun was slowly descending below the horizon and the streets were getting quieter and quieter, Lydia decided to visit 1 more shop with the twins before returning back towards the castle. As they entered the doors of the tiny shop, which could easily be missed due to being so small, a soft bell could be heard to signalize someone has entered. A sweet older lady was sitting behind the counter. She gave them a warm inviting smile, so the three assumed that she didn’t have any issues with them. Lydia looked around the store, there were all different kinds of knick-knacks to be found. As she searched and searched, she found 2 beautiful pendants that coincidently matched each other perfectly. One was a beautiful golden star while the other was a tiny heart made out of metal. She grabbed both and started walking back towards the counter the older lady was at.

As she came up to the counter the twins managed to beat her too it, already talking and laughing with the older lady. Lydia was relieved to say the least, glad that there were still occasions where her children could still be appreciated for who they are. ‘’What a lovely pair of children you have I must say! I am sure they will grow up to be good people, you should be proud.’’ The older lady said, with Lydia smiling back in response. She put the pendants on the counter to pay but the lady quickly gave them back. ‘’Please, have these as a gift, I mean it!’’ Lydia tried protesting, not wanting to rip off a kind soul such as her, but before she could speak up the older lady had already cut her off. ’’And I won’t take no for an answer! I insist.’’  The older lady said with a stern tone, Lydia sighed but ultimately gave in. ‘’Thank you for the kindness you have shown me and my children, have an amazing day miss!’’ Lydia said before taking off with her children.

As the three exited the shop Lydia crouched down to her children’s level and grabbed the pendants from her pocket. ‘’I got a little something for you two, so whenever you feel lost…. know that I am always with you. I will give the golden star to you Razzle, to symbolize what you two can become. And I will give the metal heart to you Dazzle, it symbolizes the both of you!’’ Lydia said before handing over the pendants to her children. Both Razzle and Dazzle were truly happy with the gift their mommy gave them, they would make sure to keep it close and safe as best they can. After the twins put the pendants in their pockets they took their Mommy’s hand to walk back to the castle, deciding that it had been a long enough day. They truly enjoyed the time they managed to spend together as a family, ever since they arrived their mommy was too busy to spend time with them. So, they’d make sure to enjoy every second they could with her. After a few minutes of walking and climbing the long staircase they finally arrived back at the castle gates just before the sun completely disappeared below the horizon. The three quietly walked towards their room so as not to disturb anyone’s peace. The halls were silent, with only a few people walking by. The usually filled halls now almost empty made it almost feel peaceful in a way.

After a few more minutes of walking, they had finally arrived at their room. Their legs were so sore they immediately plopped down onto their beds. As the twins laid down Dazzle was thinking to himself about what to do. Should he wait till Razzle was asleep to talk to their mommy or should Razzle know what was going on? After pondering for a while he decided it was best to just wait till Razzle was asleep, if Razzle knew what was going on he would probably freak out, and Dazzle didn’t want that to happen. After he was sure Razzle was asleep he quietly called over his Mommy, who was still awake reading in her bed. As she walked over, Dazzle’s mind suddenly started racing again, he really hoped his Mommy would take it well, he really needed someone he trusted to help him with this. Lydia approached the bed and softly sat on it to prevent Razzle from being woken up by the noise. ‘’What’s troubling you, dear? You can tell me anything.’’ Lydia said with a reassuring look. Dazzle hesitated for a few seconds, not really knowing how to say what he wanted to say, but then the words came out without a stop. Dazzle kept on blaring out every single detail, he had to get it out of his chest. After lots of explaining from Dazzle’s side, Lydia was speechless. She didn’t know what to do with this. She obviously believed the words of her child, he had no reason to lie, and he definitely wouldn’t tell her this without having a good reason. ‘’Mommy..? Please, say something! Anything!’’ Dazzle pleaded, his mommy’s usual lively self was now nowhere to be seen, and that made him scared.

Lydia sighed heavily and softly caressed Dazzle’s cheek. She didn’t want to do this, not when her children were starting to finally live their lives. But she had to protect them, if what Dazzle said truly was the case…there was only one solution to their problem, and that was to leave before it was too late.  ‘’Please wake up your brother for me Dazzle, it’s time we leave and find somewhere else to go. It’s not your duty to save Dandy, I won’t risk losing either of you.’’ And with that Lydia stood up, being stern in her decision, nothing was going to change her mind now. Even though this isn’t what he wanted to get out of this conversation he couldn’t help but think that she was maybe right. He truly wanted to help Dandy…but the fact he got angry at his Mommy was something he couldn’t let go.

Dazzle slowly shook Razzle awake, trying not to freak his brother out. ‘’…Huh? What…time is it? What’s going on?’’ Razzle said groggily, confused as to why he got woken up when it wasn’t even light out yet. As Lydia continued packing their belongings up, Dazzle explained everything that had happened. As Dazzle explained more Razzle’s face became more and more like that of his brother. He truly couldn’t believe what his brother was telling him. ‘’What! No-no-no! That can’t be.. Dandy would never do that!? Why are we leaving?? L-let’s think about this!’’  Razzle said franticly, trying to get his mommy to change her mind, but to no avail, she couldn’t let her children stay here any longer. Razzle rarely cried, but now there was no stopping his tears from streaming down his cheeks. Did this really mean he couldn’t see Dandy ever again? The one person that could understand how they felt? How did he never notice any of these things happening? He felt so stupid, stupid that he actually thought that they could live their lives like it was a fairy tale for forever.

By the time Lydia finished packing and writing a note for whoever noticed they were missing first, it was already midnight. Razzle had finally calmed down just a bit, realizing that maybe this was in fact for the best. He would truly miss Dandy, and he hoped that one day they could meet once more, and that when they do, Dandy would be able to forgive them for leaving. Razzle and Dazzle quietly got up from their bed and took the hand of their Mommy, it was time to leave, even if they maybe didn’t want to. As the three paid one last goodbye to their room, they slowly opened the door to the servant’s quarters. It was completely empty, no sign of life other than the three of them. With a sigh of relief, they quietly made their way across the halls. As they walked and walked and walked, they truly thought that for a second, their escape would go smoothly. That no one would even notice they were gone, at least not until they were already far, far away. Sadly, the note Lydia had written would be deemed useless. The three quietly opened the doors to the throne room, hoping to anything that no one would be there. And just as they were about to reach the big doors leading to the hallway of the exit…they suddenly heard a voice behind them.

‘’Where are the three of you going?"

‘’Where are the three of you going?"

-

          -

As the three heard those words from the person behind them, they froze, being unable to move in fear. Were they really caught at their escape attempt when the exit was basically in the grasp of their hands. They could practically smell the fresh air from outside, but now that smell was something that seemed so far out of reach, they didn’t know if this person was someone of important status or not, but they were too scared to turn around. They did know that the Florenzia kingdom does not appreciate people leaving out of the blue, and the punishment for the crime was something no one wanted. But just as the three of them were about to just make a run for it, the voice started speaking again, in an even harsher and scarier tone.

‘’I suggest you three turn around and face the future king of Florenzia, or else I won’t have ANY issue punishing you.’’

The…future king? As the three realized that the person who was speaking to them was none other than Dandy, the one person they didn’t want to run into, they knew that trying to make a break for it was no use at this point, the knights stationed outside would immediately stop them if Dandy shouted for their help. This was the first time since they arrived at the castle that they actually felt like they were in danger, they knew in a way what Dandy could become, and they were scared of the consequences of their now failed plan to escape without a trace. There was nothing they could do now…. The only thing they could do is listen to Dandy’s orders, at least till they found an opportunity to escape.

The three slowly turned around to face the prince of Florenzia, they were terrified…his tone sounded nothing like his usual tone, what was he going to do with them? They didn’t know, they wish they did, but they don’t, they knew they had to face the situation head on, they couldn’t back down. As they were facing the gigantic throne in the middle of the room, there he sat. Even though Dandy was just a child, this mighty throne could make anyone look intimidating if they sat on it.

‘’Come forth!  Don’t keep me waiting any longer…’’

As Dandy said that the three immediately took a few steps forward towards the light, not wanting to anger him even further. They sheepishly looked down at the floor, afraid to even look at the flower glooming over them. Lydia tried her best to remain calm, for her sake but especially for her children’s sake. They needed her now more than ever, she had to protect them if the situation gets out of hand.  But as the three were expecting Dandy to lash out, all they got as they looked up was a shocked expression on his face, what was going on? Did he really just start to notice it was the three of them?  And just as the shock was leaving Dandy’s face, so did his entire demeanor, quickly regaining his composure. ‘’Oh- HAHA!! I am so, so, so sorry for acting like that…if I knew it was you three I would definitely not have acted this way, my apologies…’’ Dandy chucked awkwardly, he was embarrassed he acted this way towards his best friends. Razzle was growing anxious, he didn’t want to see Dandy again! Not when he just accepted the fact that he couldn’t anymore. Dazzle too was scared, he knew what Dandy was capable of, and he knew that Dandy would not like them leaving… But he knew he had to speak up, he had to come over his fears sometime. But just as he wanted to open his mouth, Lydia quickly shut his attempt down and spoke up herself.

‘’Greetings Prince Dandy, what are you doing up so late? Its midnight! A young boy like you needs your rest.’’ Lydia said, trying to just make conversation so he would hopefully leave without suspecting them of trying to leave. Lydia gave Dandy a warm smile, but all he returned was a bitter glare, he didn’t appreciate how Lydia decided to ‘’spend time’’ with her children after HIM not being able to do the same for days. ‘’Not that I owe to tell YOU, but I couldn’t sleep! That’s why. But you know, you three basically do owe me…so, what are you three doing up so late? And especially here?’’ Dandy tilted his head in confusion, why were they trying to leave at midnight? There wasn’t any reason to leave when there was anything you could desire right here in the castle!  ‘’Well- I….we…’’ Lydia didn’t know how to reply, she didn’t expect a child to be so pushy, and now she was getting worried, was there really no way out? Just as Lydia wanted to speak up, wanting to at least try to persuade Dandy into leaving, Dandy stopped her, his demeanor changing with the second.

‘’And would you care to enlighten me why you are carrying backpacks? Where do you think you three are going.’’

As Dandy said that the three knew they were done for, there was now no way out of the situation, they knew what Dandy could do…what he could be when his emotions got the better of him, but running was no use, not now, they needed an opening…anything to happen so they could run, run as fast as their legs could take them. It was quiet, so quiet that you could hear a pin drop, none of them dared to speak up, and the three were thinking and thinking about a solution. They knew they had to think quickly though, because Dandy was growing more and more impatient by the second. But then, an idea came into Dazzle’s head…he wasn’t sure if it would work, he didn’t know the full capabilities of Dandy, but he knew he had to try…because no matter what, there was a huge chance he would become his monstrous self anyways if they didn’t speak up. He was terrified, terrified of all the possible outcomes of what he was about to do, but he had to be strong, he was tired of being weak, a weak child who can’t stand up for himself.  He gave a reassuring nod to Razzle and his mommy and with all the courage he could find throughout his body, starting speaking.

‘’Dandy, I am sorry to say this but we are leaving, we just think it’s best for all of us if we weren’t so close.’’ The other two looked at Dazzle in shock, surprised by his sudden directness, but Dazzle looked at them reassuringly. They had to just trust him, even if he didn’t fully know what he was doing either. When Dazzle spoke those words Dandy quickly stood up from the throne in shock and raced towards the three, these were words he never thought he would hear, not when it was going so well between the three of them. ‘’HAHAHAHAHAHAH! This is such a funny joke, Dazzle! Is this payback for me lashing out yesterday morning!? Y-you can stop this now…I learned my lesson! You are joking…right? RIGHT!?’’  He put his hands on Razzle and Dazzle’s shoulders and roughly shook them, but the twins quickly shut it down and pushed him away.  Because he didn’t expect the twins to push him, Dandy stumbled onto the ground beneath him and just stared, stared at the three looking away from him, he saw how they didn’t even dare to look him in the eyes…like he was some kind of monster. ‘’I really, really…REALLY thought you two understood how I felt, but I guess that I was too hopeful, why can’t I ever be happy? What did I do to deserve such a ROTTEN life!?’’ Dandy was becoming enraged, he didn’t know why they were doing this, he gave them EVERYTHING, and yet they still chose to leave him in the end.

Dazzle’s plan was falling into motion, because there it was…those sharp claws were forming once again. He didn’t want to do this to Dandy, but ultimately it wouldn’t have mattered. At least now it could hopefully help their escape. Dandy curled up into a ball, mumbling things to himself that the three couldn’t make out. The three slowly backed away, trying to make it to the door without Dandy noticing. But as they were about to reach the door, the ground below them shook roughly, making them struggle to keep their balance. And before they could even react, the entire door was suddenly covered by that mysterious black substance, making it impossible to open the door.  As the three looked back, Dandy was suddenly standing again, so ominous that it would send chills down anyone’s spine.

‘’YOU THREE SERIOUSLY THINK LEAVING IS AN OPTION? I DON’T THINK SO, YOU ARE MINE TILL I SEE FIT.’’

Dazzle was even more scared than he was before, but he stood his ground, he knew Dandy wouldn’t actually hurt them….at least he hoped that was the case. He and Razzle quickly stood up from the help of their Mommy and faced Dandy once more, eye to eye. As they saw a glimpse of Dandy’s face they could see how it was entire covered by that substance, only his daunting red eyes and sharp white teeth showing through. It felt like Dandy could lunge himself at them at any second, attacking them till there was nothing left to attack, but he didn’t…he just laughed. Razzle and Dazzle looked at each other in confusion, what was going on? Why was he acting this way?  But then, it stopped, he stopped, suddenly all there was, was silence. The silence wasn’t comforting at all, the air around them felt heavier by the second, was this truly the friend they have grown to care for so much? For the first time that night the three of them found pity in Dandy, they too liked it here, but it just wasn’t safe to be here anymore, Dandy was growing too obsessed, and if one day he did actually attack the one person they truly cared about, they wouldn’t know what to do with themselves.

‘’No…no, no, no no, no no no , nonononono, nonononononononononoNO!’’

Dandy’s emotions were rapidly changing, he kept spiraling on and on about how they couldn’t leave him. But then, it fell silent once more, and just as they thought it was finally over, it happened. Dandy stumbled to the ground, screaming so long, so loudly, that it attracted the attention of the guards stationed outside. All of them came rushing in to protect their prince, but all they saw were a fear-stricken woman with her children and their prince screaming on the ground. The ground began to shake heavily, even more than it was before. Razzle and Dazzle tightly held on to their mommy’s leg, as to not fall again. One of the guards slowly approached Dandy, at an attempt to calm him down, but just as he was about to reach Dandy…

*THUD*

In the blink of an eye, a huge spike made of the black substance went right through the guards body, killing him in an instant. Razzle and Dazzle couldn’t even look away in time, now all they could see Dandy as really is as a monster. Panick struck around the room, he really did it, he killed someone, the person they thought was their best friend, ended up being a cold-blooded murderer. The guards quickly held up their weapons, even if they knew they couldn’t use it against THE prince, they had to protect themselves if needed. Dandy screamed even louder, so loud that it left a ringing sound in everyone’s ears. At this point the black substance had fully emerged the rest of Dandy’s body, and he just started growing, growing to the size of a dragon, with black spikes all over his body, all that you could see were his stained rainbow petals, his gigantic claws, those sharp teeth that could bite into anything, and those beaming red eyes.

This was something Dazzle never wanted, if he knew that his stupid plan would result in the death of an innocent life, he would have never gone through with it. Now he too has someone’s blood on his hands, and he felt so guilty, so so guilty…. Dandy fully went into a rampage, destroying everything he laid his eyes on. The throne room was now a warzone, and more and more knight were called in to aid the situation. The three took shelter from the rampage behind a wall, holding each other as close as possible. Both of the twins were sobbing at this point, their escape attempt truly went horribly wrong. ‘’Hey, hey- shhhh.. don’t cry, you two have to stay strong, nothing that happened was either of yours fault, no one could see this coming.’’ Lydia softly spoke, trying to comfort her children amidst the chaos. Lydia really didn’t expect that it was going to be this bad, but now that she has seen how Dandy truly was…she was glad she made the choice to protect her children, to put them first, even if that meant them losing the life they had built here.

Dandy kept on going and going, and no one could really do anything about it other than watching in horror, no one dared to get close, as to not share the same fate as some of their fellow soldiers who tried to be the hero. Sometimes there can be no hero, not in this situation at least... No one knew what he had become, or how to stop it. There was chaos everywhere; bodies were dropping, fires were burning, and expensive furniture was completely destroyed, and it was only a matter of time till there was nothing left to destroy. At this point even Lydia was worried that there truly was no way out, was this really the end for them? She prayed to anyone who could hear, prayed that a miracle would happen, and that her children would be safe, that’s all she could ever ask for. And then, just as she thought all hope was lost…and that her prayers reached not even the gods above, there she was. A broad-shouldered lady wearing the armor of that of a leading knight rushed over towards them. She didn’t know who this person was, but when her children saw her they immediately lid up. Even though chaos ensued all around them, they were so happy to see her. She was glad, glad that they had someone to be there for them when she couldn’t be.

The lady gave Lydia a hand to help her up, offering a reassuring look. ‘’Hello miss, the name’s Abby, I am here to get you and your children to safety.’’ She gave a thankful smile in return and got up from the help of Abby. Razzle’s eyes lit up, fascinated by the oh-so-different look from Abby than they have gotten to see. If he could be bouncing around like a ball right now, he would have. Seeing her practically made him forget about the entirety of what was going on at the moment, and even Dazzle was smiling again. ‘’Wow!! Miss Abby…you look so cool! Like a true warrior!’’ Razzle said excitedly, finding her even more cooler than he already did. The armor was a bit beaten up, clearly having gone through lots of tough battles, which only made the armor even more special. It showed all the hardships she went through during her time as a knight, she survived, and that she could now wear it once more when she was needed was a feeling she could never put a price on, and even if the armor wouldn’t protect her against an attack, she wore it with pride. But it was now time for serious business, she needed to make sure those three were safe, especially because 2 of them were children she had grown to care deeply about. She would truly miss them, but she knew they had to get to safety, away from this place, they couldn’t stay here anymore.

‘’There is another exit, but it is near the sleeping quarters of the prince…the door to the sleeping quarters is at the other end of this room. I would be lying if I said we aren’t in a tough spot, we have to go through the open space to get there, so run as fast you possibly can, but I know you two can do that.’’ Abby confidently said with a pinch on their cheek. But, she didn’t know if they were even going to make it, she knew they had to try though, because staying here any longer would for sure guarantee their demise. She signaled the three to follow her, it was about to happen, this was their one way out, they had to make it. They slowly creeped over towards the edge of the wall they were hiding behind, they knew that the second they took a step into the open, that running was the only option.. with no turning back. The room was huge, and to get to the other side in a short matter of time wasn’t an easy task, especially when there was a huge monster in the same room. But there was no other option…it was now or never. Razzle and Dazzle were terrified, terrified that they wouldn’t make it, but with a long, deep, breath….they went for it. They ran, ran as fast as their legs could take them. There were so many bodies on the ground that you couldn’t even count them none of the guards were left, it was truly a tragedy. But, just as it seemed that Dandy was too preoccupied destroying the room, that maybe they could actually make it, he suddenly turned around. His eyes were filled with pure and pure rage, his mind was filled with one thing, chaos. He roared so loudly that it shattered the glass windows in the room, Razzle and Dazzle froze in fear, their legs couldn’t move an inch, even with the desperate pleas from their mommy telling them to run. Dandy set his eyes on the twins, preparing to launch an attack with his claws at them. But even at that moment, the twins just couldn’t move no matter how badly they wanted to.  They tried so hard all this time to be brave, so so hard. But it didn’t matter, because in the end they still couldn’t be. They looked up, and all they could see was Dandy’s claws rapidly approaching, one strike and it was over for them. There was nothing they could do, their life was going to be over before it could even be lived. Yet, somehow, even when face-to-face with death, they felt more at peace than they ever were. They closed their eyes, holding each other’s hand tightly.

         .

                ….?

…huh? They didn’t expect death to be this painless, what was going on? The twins slowly opened their eyes, and somehow…they were still alive..? Lydia quickly rushed over and tightly hugged her children. Razzle and Dazzle slowly looked down…and there Abby was, lifeless…she died instantly, not even getting a chance to say goodbye. She was the one person in this castle that treated them like a regular being, and then even died to protect them. But, there wasn’t a hint of sadness or pain in her eyes, she died happily, knowing that she did everything she could, that she died like a true warrior. Seeing her body on the ground made the twins burst into tears, they couldn’t believe she was truly dead, why did it have to be her? She was the kindest person they had ever met, she was always there for them when they needed her, and now she was gone forever. Lydia couldn’t believe what had happened either, a lady she barely knew sacrificed herself for her children. She swore that one day, she would come back to this damned kingdom and truly thank her. But now, there were more urgent matters at hand.

Razzle and Dazzle couldn’t stop crying, they felt so miserable. This was all their fault. Their stupid escape attempt was the cause of all those deaths. They would have to live with this forever, their guilty conscience never being able to let it go. What would the king do to them when they realized they were the ones who caused everything? That his son became like this because of them. They knew there was no time to sulk about it now, they were still in danger, Dandy was able to strike again at any moment. But, for some reason, They still couldn’t move. They knew they had to get up and go to safety, as to not let Abby’s death be in vain…but they just couldn’t. Their fear was now replaced by utter despair. Everything was becoming too much for them. They should have never came here, they got too used to this life. Too used to the possibility that they could be in this dream forever. But in the end a dream will always come crumbling down, how were they so stupid to think a royal could ever truly be friends with a lowly commoner like themselves… that there was a way everything could work out. Lydia tried her hardest to help them up, but the twins would not, no matter how hard she tried. Why was nothing happening, why did Dandy not attack them yet? Razzle and Dazzle slowly looked up, with tears still streaming down their face, fully expecting claws ripping through them at any moment…but for some reason, Dandy just stared?  And somehow, you could see guilt through those beaming red eyes filled with pure rage just moments ago.

         ‘’I…I am sorry.’’

They didn’t know how, but it seemed like Dandy had somehow regained his senses again. He was so, so angry at them. But even then, seeing them hurt so bad was something he never wanted to bring upon them. And with that, he slowly transformed back to his regular self. Dandy took a look around the room, and knew he had messed up badly. He didn’t know what would happen with him, but that wasn’t important right now, he had to be there for his best friends. He slowly approached the twins, trying to lay his hand of their shoulder. But Razzle quickly slapped his hand away. ‘’Don’t touch us Dandy! Look what you did, you just think everything will magically be okay with an apology, but it won’t!.’’ Razzle said angrily, he couldn’t forgive Dandy for what he did, not now. Dandy quickly took a few steps back in shock, not expecting Razzle to lash out like that. With the help of Lydia the twins finally got back up, Razzle didn’t even take another look in Dandy’s eyes, and Dazzle was too emotional to look either. He just couldn’t bare to see Dandy, the guilt of his own actions and the actions of Dandy was just something he couldn’t look past.  Dandy tried apologizing more, begging them to stay… that he could fix this. But then, Lydia looked over towards the door and noticed how the black substance that had originally blocked their exit had disappeared when Dandy transformed back to his regular self, so it was now or never, they had to leave before something happened again.

Without even thinking about it, she grabbed her children in her arms and ran, ran as fast as she could towards the exit. All she could hear was the loud sobbing of a child, but she didn’t dare to look back or make sure Dandy was okay. Whatever punishment the king would bestow upon him was not worth staying for. Not when her children had almost died because of him, she couldn’t lose them and make Abby’s death be in vain. This time it seemed Dandy didn’t try to stop them, because the door opened without any issues, she quickly slammed the door with a loud thud and continued running, she couldn’t stop before she knew they were going to be safe. Her heart was racing, afraid that something would wait outside for them. But, it was dead silent, not a single soul was around anymore this late at night. She didn’t have a plan, she didn’t know where they could go…but she knew they just had to get out of the city, as far as her legs would take her. She hurried down those long stairs they were on the first day they arrived. Razzle and Dazzle just silently sobbed in their mothers embrace, they were so tired of everything, that they could never truly be happy. Lydia knew she needed to stay strong for her children, even though in times like these it was definitely a challenge…seeing them like this was something she never wanted. She just hoped that they would feel better soon, that they would be alright.

After a few more minutes of running they had finally arrived at the castle gates and yet again, there was no one to be found.. not even the knights guarding the entrance to the town were roaming around. Where they really all called to the castle to help? Lydia slowed down as to not make any loud noise, there could still be someone…she couldn’t take any chances, not when freedom was so close. She looked around to make sure there really wasn’t anyone left to keep them from leaving, and as luck would have it…there really wasn’t. With a sigh of relief, she finally took one last look at the castle of Florenzia. She didn’t know when she would return, but she knew she would, she had to. She would truly miss the live she and her children had here, Lydia could confidently say they were truly the happiest here till today, but it just wasn’t meant to be, not after everything that went down. Lydia didn’t know what would happen now, what fate had in store for them next…but she knew that, if they all tried to make the best of it, that everything would turn out to be okay.

They slowly walked along the bridge they had first walked on with fear of punishment, but this time it was peaceful in an odd way, that the three almost lost each other brought them together even more than they already were. They kept on walking aimlessly, at this point it was too dark to actively attempt to actually make some distance. So Lydia decided that after not being able to see Florenzia anymore, that it was finally time to get some rest for the night. They all cuddled up closely together under a tree, it unfortunately would have to do for the night. Razzle and Dazzle had finally calmed down a bit after everything that had happened that night, they just wanted to get some rest as to not risk becoming sick again from lack of energy. Lydia softly hummed a lullaby to help her children go to sleep, and within seconds they were off to dreamland.

The twins dreamt once more that night, yet they were very different dreams. Razzle dreamt about the time they spent with Dandy… It was weird, he really was angry at Dandy for what he did to Abby, and yet…he missed him. He truly missed him, it felt like Dandy was the only one that could actually relate to Razzle. But deep down Razzle also knew that for now, it was better if they didn’t see each other. He knew that he would have live with the memories they made together for now, until their paths crossed once more. Dazzle’s dream wasn’t about Dandy at all for a change, but about someone completely different. Dazzle awoke in his dream to a beautiful field of flowers once more, but it was different this time. There was a beautiful night-sky with shooting stars everywhere you looked. It was truly a sight to behold, he could sit there for hours and not get bored of the view. But then, a voice spoke out from behind him…a voice he had never heard before.

‘’I am glad we finally meet Dazzle, I am sorry we weren’t able to earlier.. ’’  Dazzle cautiously turned around, expecting a monster to appear again to disturb his peace…but it was the complete opposite. Because, there he stood…a sight far more beautiful than the night-sky. A humanoid black void that was seemingly around the same age as him, a glowing white star on one side of his face and a blue moon with the face of that of a regular human covering the other half. This mysterious being wore a fluffy dark blue robe covered to the brim with stars with a matching night-cap to finish it off. Dazzle practically couldn’t take his eyes off of him, he didn’t know what exactly he felt, but it was truly pleasant.  Dazzle didn’t know what to say, what do you even say to someone so mesmerizing? But before he could even think of what to say, the being spoke up once more. ‘’You don’t have to say anything, just enjoy this beautiful night sky with me, you deserve it after everything you went through.’’ The moon-child sat next to Dazzle and rested his head on Dazzle’s shoulder. The two quietly enjoying their time together. Dazzle wished that it would never end, that they could sit there forever and enjoy the stars together, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. ‘’I am sorry Dazzle, but it is time for you to wake up now. I really did enjoy the time we spend together, and I hope you come visit me in the real world.’’ The moon said with a smile. Dazzle was surprised to find out that a being like this was actually real, and wanted to see HIM. ‘’B-but…where can I find you? Please, you have to tell me!” Dazzle pleaded, praying to anything he wouldn’t wake up before he got the chance to tell him.

‘’Oh don’t you worry about that, you’ll see.’’

.

   .

And with that Dazzle woke up from his dream, he was sad it was over, that he couldn’t see that mysterious being anymore…. But he knew that he had to find him again. As he looked around he could see his Mommy sitting a few meters away, staring at something in the grass intensely . Razzle was also awake at this point, also seemingly being in a way better mood than he was yesterday. ‘’Oh, good morning Dazzle! I can see you slept well.’’ Razzle said with a big smile, surprised to see Dazzle so happy. ‘’Thank you Razzle… I did in fact sleep well.’’ Dazzle didn’t really know what to say, how could he bring up what he dreamt about…about who he dreamt? The twins swiftly got up to go sit with their Mommy, who was taking a look at the map she managed to hold onto. ‘’Hello my dears, I hope you managed to get a good nights rest. I am just planning on where we can go now.’’ Lydia sighed, she didn’t know where they could go if she was being honest, her knowledge about anything outside of her hometown wasn’t really anything special. The twins both took a good look at the map, trying to chime in and help their mommy. Razzle was basically pointing at anything that mildly peaked his interest, not really caring as to where the wind would take them. But, as Dazzle was taking a look, his eyes locked onto one peculiar spot on the map, which was for some reason marked with white ink. ‘’The Starlit kingdom..?’’ As Dazzle spoke out that name, something in his head immediately clicked…this was the place where he would find the one he saw in his dream. Lydia noticed how fixated her child was on that 1 place, and rolled up the map to put it somewhere safe. ‘’Well I think The Starlight kingdoms a great choice, Dazzle! Come on you two, let’s make haste’’ Dazzle could basically explode from excitement, he couldn’t wait to see him again. He would tell Razzle and his Mommy eventually about why he wanted to go so badly, but for now it was important that they at least made it there.

The three ventured out, trying to find the kingdom that seemingly was somewhere high up in the clouds. They hoped to make it there as soon as possible, it was still winter and they didn’t know how many nights they could spend outside without freezing to death. They knew it was a kingdom yet again, and in the back of their minds there was still worry, worry that something bad would happen once more. But there was no other option, they had to take the risk. After what was just hours and hours of walking, the sun was setting once more. And just as they were about to lose hope for the day, that they would need to spend a cold harsh winter night under a tree again, there it was. They could see a heap of clouds appearing, with a huge Castle on top. Razzle and Dazzle jumped up and down from happiness, glad that they were able to find it before midnight. As they looked up towards the clouds they could see how two knights slowly floated down towards them. Razzle and Dazzle looked up in fear, still scared of any knight after what had happened the first time. They quickly hid behind their mommy as the knights slowly landed on the ground in front of them, just hoping that they wouldn’t do anything bad to them. Lydia too was cautious of them, but she knew she had to speak up…but before she even could, the knights kneeled to the ground, with one of them starting to speak. ‘’Don’t be afraid, we are here to guide you to the Starlit kingdom.’’ The guards stood up again from their kneeling position and extended their hands to Lydia and Razzle and Dazzle. The three cautiously took the hands of the knights, they had to, this was the only way to get there. It was either this or turn around and find a different place. But then, the second knight said something they never expected to hear, something that truly shocked them to their core

‘’The prince is waiting for your arrival.’’
