Work Text:

It was the middle of August. The humidity of the Japanese summer flooded the bustling streets, full of colors and essences, creating endless sensations. Some people were wearing traditional clothes, while others had a more casual look. Shirogane stood in frony of the agreed place: a small convenience store.

It didn't take long for his date to arrive. Pulling his sleeve to get his attention, the young man made him turn around.

Akira was ready to apologize for being late after he was the one who had suggested the idea, but he was shocked to see the outfit.

"Oh, you're also wearing a..."

"Ah, you're also wearing a yukata," Akira completed the sentence before his counterpart could.

"Well, it's the regular thing in these cases, isn't it? Humans usually wear these things. Does it look good on me?," he said, placing a lock of his hair behind her ear.

Saying he looked good wasn't enough. He was wearing a blue fabric with a geometric pattern, a matching blue haori and a white obi. His hair was tied up in a tight braid.

Seeing Shirogane in an outfit that wasn't black was unusual. The deep blue of his clothes matched that of his eyes, and contrasted with the whiteness of his skin and hair.

"Yeah," Akira blushed and looked away.

  Holy shit!!

Shirogane noticed his reaction and smiled. They both started walking through the crowd. It was not a particularly relaxing experience. You had to be careful not to bump into or step on someone.

However, Akira's mind was busy with other matters.

  Why hasn't he complimented me?

  It doesn't suit me, right?

It was Kou who had suggested the costume and the idea itself.

Since the couple had started dating, they hadn't left the palace or done anything special. And Akira didn't have much romantic experience. Who better than a playboy as a counselor?

"Aki."

"Ah, Kou-nii."

"Do you have a second?"

"The meeting is starting soon, hurry up."

"Alright. I'll be clear. Are Shirogane and you dating?"

"Huh!? Stop your nonsense, why do you...?"

"Do you think you can fool me? I've known you for years. I just want to warn you. Watch yourself."

I don't like where this is going...

"He's not dangerous! Shirogane is..."

"So I was right, huh. Listen, Aki. Shirogane has only looked at one person in his whole life. He's probably only dating you because you remind him of Ryuko."

Akira clenched his fists. He had finally built some confidence. Why did he have to listen to something like that again?

"Kou-ni. What I do and I don't is none of your business. As your king...stop meddling in my business."

"...fine. But if he hurts you, I won't forgive him."

"Don't worry. He's kind to me."

After seeing his determination, Kou knew that he was not going to get anything. It was best to stop digging.

"And what have you done so far?"

"Nothing special. We haven't had time to leave the palace these days. And even if I had time, I don't know what we should do..."

"...there's going to be a fireworks festival soon. Why don't you go?"

"Sounds very cheesy. Will Shirogane like it?"

"When he sees you dressed in a yukata, I'm sure he likes it. If not...that would prove my point."

Akira swallowed. He didn't know if Kou was really trying to help them or trying to make them break up.

"If you need more advice, you can come to me later. By the way, have you two already...? I'm very experienced in the field, I can give you suggestions for that too!"

"N-we haven't!! Not yet...whatever, I'm going to the meeting!!"

He hasn't said anything...ah, perhaps I should have chosen another color.

If it was Ryuko...would he have said something?

Akira stopped thinking about it and thought about the other suggestions that Kou had given him, such as eye contact or physical contact.

The first one was complicated. If he looked at the shin, he would realize his uneasiness.

He moved his hand covertly and intertwined his fingers with those of his counterpart. The king of shadows looked down, but he saw only hair. Akira had lowered his head and was looking in another direction. His expression was not visible.

You came here to hold my hand in the crowd to avoid getting lost, huh? That's a very bad excuse, Akira-kun.

They continued walking together through the stalls, until they came to one that caught their attention. They were preparing takoyaki balls to take away. They both stood watching as they poured the dough on the plate and it melted.

After handing over the money by hand, Akira got ready to eat one of the balls. He almost choked up when he saw the person who had attended to them. It was Kou!!

He was in his human form, with his glasses on. His subordinate winked at him.

Akira put on a not very pleasant expression, turning whiter than a sheet of paper. Kou had been watching them all this time!? Did he trust Shirogane so little, or did he just want to gossip?!

"What is it, Akira-kun?" the shin was looking away, and he hadn't noticed. When he turned his attention to the salesman, he was gone.

 Woah!! He disappeared!

"Ah...it's nothing."

Akira pulled him, returning to the main path. After having eaten the takoyaki, they went to a more secluded place. It was a small hill, near a shrine. There were some couples and tourists taking photos.

Akira took out a couple of flares and lit them, giving one to his partner. They both stood there in silence, watching as the sparks flew and the flare burned out. They decided to sit on the grass, waiting for the sky to darken even more.

Akira had always thought these things were silly.

"Um...did you...have fun?"

"The truth is, I am not a big fan of this kind of events. Too many people, too much noise...it's annoying. That's why I avoid coming to such places in the human world."

"Well, I'm boring and I haven't had a date before, what did you expect?"

"Although I'm not a fan of these things...it was fun. Perhaps because of the company."

Then, a glow arose in the sky.

The huge display of fireworks created an amazing and colorful atmosphere. It was a wonderful sight. Everyone was looking at those beautiful shapes and lights. Everyone, except Akira. His eyes were focused on the person sitting next to him instead. And all of a sudden, he felt attracted to him. Once more.

Fireworks were sparkling in the sky, enlightening the night's darkness. Shirogane's hair was tied in a French braid, the same hairstyle he had maintained for so long, when they first met. His eyes were focused on the heavens’ colours, shining with joy as he smiled gently. He looked gorgeous in that outfit.

Moved by an unjustifiable impulse, the brown-haired teenager tilted his head and brushed his counterpart's lips slightly. Realizing what he had done, he pushed away, blushing madly.

Shirogane was caught off guard, not expecting that reaction from his companion.

There were some minutes of silence until the dark king finally spoke. "Oh, man, that was so bad! You have no experience at kissing, do you?” he joked, laughing mischievously. "Shall I teach you, Akira-kun?" he added, using a deep, sensual voice.

He first cupped Akira's cheeks and, softly but confidently, pressed his lips against him. The kiss started sweet and slow, eventually turning into a more passionate one. A heat rose in the light king's cheeks as Shirogane's tongue touched his for a moment. They parted at the same time, out of breath, gazing at each other.

"By the way, Akira-kun. You look very cute in that yukata. Have you put it on especially for me?"

 Damn, the plan worked!!

Kou was hiding behind a tree, watching the scene. The man gave Akira a thumbs up.
