Chapter Text
Everything was going in his favor. High scores in school, an athletic body and to top it of, even an awesome quirk. There was only one weakness in his life, but that was nothing he couldn't handle. Everything was going well, his plan worked.
Tormenting Midoriya Izuku proved to be very effective. Midoriyas quirklessness, paired with Bakugou Katsukis already confident character, justified his arrogant behavior towards him. He was not the first to make fun of him for it, he simply joined in for a bit and noticed fast that this was going to help him. That was the one thing he would be able to pull off without going to hate himself eternally. Make use of a weakness that is seen as a weakness by everyone anyway.
Would that not have been the case Bakugous everyday life would have been quite the hurdle. After all he could no longer have lied and tried to convince himself, that he was in fact gay and to make matters worse felt an absurdly strong attraction to the black haired classmate and childhood friend.
But these were thoughts he didn't paid much attention to anymore, even so his feelings were nagging him all the time Midoriya was only so much as mentioned. To be truthful anything that could haven been slightly brought in context with the quirkless boy triggered Bakugous mind in his direction. But still, he was quite good at ignoring it. He was doing it for several years now and his bullying excuse wasn't going anywhere. There was no way after all, that the boy, who was quirkless for now nearly fifteen years, would suddenly stand before him with a quirk of his own.
With the end of his middle school Bakugou was sure to leave Midoriya behind once and for all. It would only be physical at first, but he was sure that cultivating the thought of Midoriya as weak, useless and unimportant would do the trick in the long run and he doesn't have to think about him anymore. Bakugou will enter Yuueis heroics department and Midoriya will go wherever. He may even enter Yuuei as well, since there was no way they will be in the same department let alone the same class.
Yes, Bakugou felt content, he will forget Midoriya, get over this damn attraction and start a life as the best hero there ever was. All according to plan.
Well, he was never more wrong.
On the day of the practical entrance exam to enter Yuuei Bakugou woke up with a feeling of ease, not that anybody could tell with his mean look on his face and barking insults at anyone whose gaze met his. However that feeling vanished soon. As his eyes spotted a mop of black hair which, as far as he remembers, always managed to draw his attention. Doesn't matter if Bakugou wanted it to happen, or how crowed it was he would always find that hair almost instantly.
Bakugou saw him already at the written exams, but that didn't meant anything, but this practical one was for the department of heroics only. Meaning Midoriya was actually applying for heroics. Not that Bakugou thought that a quirkless guy would stand any chance, but the mere fact, that he was attempting to go there and as a result would continue to disturb Bakugous thoughts, was unnerving.
Don't get starteld, behave like always. That little shit will no longer be a bother. Bakugou had his way of dealing with his own problems and he would see through them.
“FUCK OFF 'DEKU'”, he yelled at the unsuspecting boy in the front.
Thats right, behave like you always behave. You have done this for years, and it will be over soon. He wasn't supposed to see Midoriya, or 'Deku' as Bakugou so gracefully decided to call him as a personal insult, anymore. His presence alone had a way too strong effect on the loud boy. He wouldn't admit that of course, but seeing him after thinking of not seeing him anymore took more of his control than he wanted.
Midoriya in the meantime got startled, turned around and with a shocked impression answered.
“KACCHAN”.
Shit, why is he still calling me that. Don't add to the fire you dumbshit. Bakugou was pissed, would that be a day from a few weeks ago he would have grinned at Midoriya and given him a few bruises here and there. Despite having done all that in the past, quite frequently at that, Midoriya never stopped calling him by his nickname from their childhood days. It was one of the worst things to remind him of these unwanted, way to persistent feelings he wanted to forget.
“Don't stand in my way, or do you wanna fucking die” There was noway he could beat him up on this crowdy street directly before the exams. And to be honest his mind was way to much in a fuzz right now anyway. The best thing was to get away from 'Deku' as soon as possible.
He did hear him saying something, but Bakugou was intend not to listen to his voice any longer. No need to get his thoughts more in directions where they not belong.
He will fucking fail the exam and then it's finally over. The fuckface will probably pass the written exam though. Unfortunately he is not stupid enough. But that doesn't matter. Now I will concentrate on this shit of an exam and afterwords I will have no problems anymore.
Fuck you Deku for ruining my day once again.
If possible his look got even darker than before.
The exam in itself was easy enough, destroy your targets. That fitted just fine with Bakugous current mindset. Blowing up robots got him away from the whole Midoriya thing. He couldn't care less about the other participants beside Deku, but he was the one person he purposely avoided. The exam was seconds away to its end, when one last big crash was heard through the area. A bit surprising but not really interesting. It only matters that the exam was over and that meant Deku was over.
“Finally”, Bakugou screamed in to the sky surrounded only by a huge pile of metal trash and smoke.
A list of successful participants was made public and therefore the list of his potential future classmates. He didn't care about this, but there was one news he could not ignore. Unsurprisingly he was the number one candidate and got the attention he deserved, but in contrast to that there was one other student who got quite the credit.
Zero points for destroying of the robots, but 60 points for rescue: Midoriya Izuku was placed in the top ten and thus was allowed to enroll not only in Yuuei, but in the department of heroics.
“WHAT THE BLOODY FUCK!”, was heard through the Bakugou household. Normally parents would probably react to such an outburst, but when this is how their only son acts on a normal basis you learn to ignore.
Bakugou didn't pay attention to any name on the list but number seven was just jumping right in his face. And how could it not, it was the one name he didn't wanted to see after all.
Deku is going to be part of my department? That is a shitload of a joke, that assface doesn't even has a quirk, how the fuck did he manage that? No, wait. He got zero points for villain destroying and got in only for rescue points. So he cheated his way in to heroics, huh!
Bakugou was furious, he had all this planed out. Enter Yuuei, lose sight of Deku. Simple as that. But he was just not able to get rid of him, and the oppressed feelings are already making themselves noticeable. Images of Deku in his head, his smiling face, his serious one, showing that he never gives up, his voice and his laughing. Bakugou was annoyed beyond believes. How could everything he build up over these last years get crumpled so easily? The answer was simple, he let his guard down, feeling save to early.
But that doesn't matter. Nothing actually changed. He is still quirkless. That means he is as useless as before. Yeah no problem, he is just some little shit. Useless fuckface will soon get expelled and until that time comes I will make his life hell. He's still quirkless after all, my reason still stands. Bakugou told himself over and over again. Everything was still fine and his mood lifted immediately.
In truth that was easier said than done. The first day of his new school life came. He new who passed the exams but he didn't knew who was in his class. So if Deku was not in his class it would probably not become as bad as he thought it might be. After opening the door Bakugou quickly scanned the people already inside. The scowl on his face lifted a bit after not finding Midoriya.
He is such a nerd, he would probably already be here. Bakugou wasn't really convincing himself, as the things were now, all his previous planned steps were blown to dust nearly immediately by Deku. But still he could hope. He sat down on his chair with his typical demeanor. Eyes as if he was looking for trouble constantly and feed on his desk. It didn't took until someone approached him. It was a serious looking guy with glasses. Bakugou hated him instantly. He seemed way do stuck up on proper behavior and everything else Bakugou couldn't care about. And the first words out of glasses mouth confirmed his initial thoughts.
“What is with this sitting position, you are a disgrace for all Yuuei students”, he said with a serious face and waving hands. Bakugou was inclined to just ignore him, but the prospect that Deku could actually end up in his class was making him itchy.
“Huh, don't talk shit”, it didn't seemed like such a strong response, but Bakugous Eyes screamed murder. He saw how a few classmates actually winced a bit at his harsh tone. But the glasses guy stood firm.
“Don't put your legs on the desk! Don't you think that's disrespectful towards your classmates!?”
Bakugou really couldn't care.
“No, as a matter of fact, I don't think so. Which middle school are you from anyway, you two-bit extra!?”, it was really not understandable how someone could be this stuck up.
Probably from some famous high status school and raised at such. That doesn't matter here, trash. Bakugou hated people who thought were superior just because their parents had influence or something. Only your own personnel achievements counts.
“A private sch-- Ahem. I'm from Soumei Junior Highschool. My name's Iida Tenya”, Glasses, whose name was Iida apparently, answered a bit flustered but still proud.
“Soumei!?”, as I thought. “Well aren't you an elite. Seems I've got a reason to fucking end you after all”, Bakugou answered with every intend to kill present in his voice. That got Iida, and he actually took a step back. But he wasn't going to quite down either.
“What nerve! You want to become a hero!?”, he shot back at Bakugou when his attention fell on something else. To be more precise, someone else. At the entrance to the door stood a somewhat timid figure. A figure Bakugou recognized immediately of course. Midoria Izuku was in his class. The last straw of hope was destroyed just like this. He was in his class.
“Deku”, Bakugou muttered under his breath with a glare on. How could a fucking quirkless nerd like him ruin all my plans. Annoying fuckface. Bakugou wasn't going to allow these unwanted thoughts of his to win. He suppressed them all of middle school and some before. And now he will do it in high school just as well. He has to.
As unwillingly as possible Bakugou couldn't avert his attention from Deku. Iida and some girl with puffy brown hair and red cheeks were already all around him.
What the fuck. They flock to him like moth to light. It wasn't that he was jealous of Dekus sudden popularity, but it wasn't supposed to be like this. They should make fun of him for being quirkless so that Bakugou can do that just as well. Annoyance paired itself with impatience and some kind of depression. The whole situation wasn't to Bakugous liking and he felt like something horrible was going to happen. Seeing Deku all flustered by the attention he got, smiling, laughing and just being all happy, didn't helped Bakugou in his unease at all.
Shortly after their somewhat weird homeroom teacher Aizawa Shouta entered class and confronted them promptly with their first task. A quirk apprehension test. The test in itself was simple. Do the standard athletic activities from middle school but use your quirk to get absurdly high results. As it so happens Bakugou was the one to demonstrate. Softball pitching quirkstyle.
Simple enough. Bakugou added to his throw the shock wave of his explosion and instead of 67 meters like in middle school, he got 705.2 meters. The whole class was amazed, less at the 700 plus meters but at the whole prospect of using their quirks this way.
“It looks fun... you say?” Aizawa said with a dark tone. The whole class got silent instantly.
“So you were planning to spend your three years here having a good ol' time? What happened to becoming heroes?” scratch the dark tone. Aizawa sounded just plain malicious.
“All right then. In that case new rule: The student who ranks last in total points will be judged 'hopeless' and instantly expelled”, everyone took a gulp and was shocked. Except Bakugou. He noticed the ray of hope shining once again.
Deku is still a quirkless nerd. Doesn't matter how he managed the exam, he will be judged hopeless here and get expelled. Everything will be fine.
And with this the activities begun. Bakugou obviously was awesome. But instead of bolstering himself he looked at Deku and saw him as quirkless as ever.
At the actual softball pitching, when it was Midoriyas turn, Bakugou was standing next to Iida of all people who was talking to the brown haired girl, whose name was Uraraka as Bakugou overheard at some point.
“Midoriya's not doing to well, is he?”. Bakugou knew this wasn't directed at him but he just had to react to that.
“Of Course not! He's a quirkless fucking guppy!”, Bakugou nearly screamed at Iida. He was something between frustrated and totally overjoyed. The alone fact that Midoriya enrolled at Yuuei at the same department as he himself was still somewhat nerve wrecking. Those damn fucking thoughts are not keeping the shut up at all. But Deku will get expelled soon. And this thought made him grin.
“'Quirkless'? Didn't you see what he did at the entrance exam?”, he did not. But this statement got Bakugou. Was he talking about how Deku managed to pass the exam? How he cheated his way in? What did all this had to do with being quirkless? Bakugou didn't quite knew what to say, so he answerd intellectually.
“Hahh??”.
“Considering how his quirk affects his body, it is understandable that he was refraining from using it”, Iida explained, and that explained nothing. What the fuck is he talking about? Bakugou didn't understood a thing. Maybe he should have paid more attention to the others during the exam, but at that point he was sure Deku would just fail. Plain and simple.
“But if he isn't doing anything soon, he will place last and get expelled”, Uraraka said worry written all over her face. Do what? He can't do shit, he will get expelled for sure. That would be the first good thing in forever. Bakugou knew that they seem to know something he doesn't, but that can't change the fact, that Midoriya is quirkless since birth. Ignoring the other two, he watched Deku again. Midoriya was just pulling his arm back and threw. 46 meters. As expected, nerd is useless as always. Bakugou couldn't stop grinning.
“See, quirkless. He hasn't done anything up till now”, Bakugou said to Iida with a content smirk. Iida seemed more worried for Midoriya than giving Bakugous statement the credit it deserved.
“He really has to use it at some point even if … oh, what now?”, Iidas attention and therefore Bakugous as well drifted to Aizawa who approached Midoriya and was talking to him about something. He apparently used his quirk on Midoriya at the last throw and thus erased Midoriyas quirk for that time. And the 'talking' to Midoriya seemed more like a threat than anything else.
“Looks like he's had some coaching before, but...”, Iida let that open in the air, and Bakugo got no idea what that but would mean. He knew only one thing.
“He's gonna get expelled for sure”, and Bakugou was sure.
But what does he mean 'erased his quirk'? There is no quirk to begin with. Midoriya got a second chance an the throw as it seems. This time without erasing his 'quirk'. Midoriya repeated the throw motion from before, he pulled his am back and threw. 705.3 meters.
Bakugou didn't knew what to say. He heard Iida mumbling something about a 'swollen finger' and 'reminds him of the entrance exam', and Uraraka being way to happy. But Bakugou just didn't knew what just happened.
WHAT THE FUCK!? WHAT THE FUCK!? WHAT THE FUCK!? WHAT THE FUCK!? A quirk manifest at the age of four at the latest! Useless Deku doesn't have a quirk, that's the whole point, that's my reasoning. It's impossible, and yet. What has he done just now, was that some kind of trick? WHAT THE FUCK!? DEKUUUUUUUUU!
Bakugou didn't knew what to do. He couldn't quite grasp the apparently fact that Deku got a quirk. Everything was falling apart, and Bakugou was in shock.
When he really got a quirk, my reason is gone. He could already feel all these unnecessary thoughts in the back of his mind. Using this opportunity to crawl back to the front, using Bakugous weakness.
But wait, he's still a candidate for expulsion. Doesn't matter if he got a quirk or not, if he's not here anymore everything is fine.
And with that the rest tests were finished and Deku didn't use his quirk a second time. As it seems his finger got useless after this one throw. After the last one finished the endurance run, Aizawa was about to show the results.
“Oh yeah, that whole 'expulsion' thing was a lie”, Aizawa said nonchalant.
What?
“It was a logical ruse to pull out your best performances”, Aizawa said still nonchalant but with an undeniable evil smirk.
What?
“And... right. Yep. With that, it's over. Your curriculum sheets are back in the classroom so give them a once over”, Aizawa sent Midoriya to Recovery Girl and was gone.
WHAT? WHAT? No one is getting expelled? Deku is not getting expelled? Deku is going to stay in this school, in my class? WHAT THE FUCK AM I GOING TO DO?
