Where Preparation and Opportunity Meet

Summary:

Clinton has always known what he wants.

For OMWC Fedora Flash Fiction March prompt, long shot.

Notes:

Someday I won't post a challenge entry on the last day of the month.

Title is from a quote attributed to Bobby Unser, "Success is where preparation and opportunity meet," though it seems likely he was slightly misquoting Zig Ziglar. That's okay; around these parts, we like people who quote (and misquote) things. 😉

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

He knew it wasn’t likely. He hadn’t been around long, and knew plenty of others saw him as barely more than a probie, even though he wasn’t that green. Still, you didn’t spend five years in the navy and not learn something about knowing your place.

But he also knew he was qualified, and that ought to count for something. From what he’d seen, Agent Burke agreed, so even if it was a long shot, he was taking it.

He stuck out his hand. “Clinton Jones. Word around here is that you’re putting together a special white collar task force.”

Notes:

Even though it's only been a few months, I was kinda missing drabbles. I like them, but for the record, I still think a hundred words is harder than a thousand. (Even when a few of them are directly taken from canon!)

Oh, and this is silly, but I also like it when AO3 gives us an official tag for the monthly prompts.

And I like you, too; thanks for being here.
