Parallels in Time

Summary:

Switching back and forth in time, this story follows the characters of Pandora Rosier and her daughter Luna Lovegood as they make their way through their Hogwarts years with the ability to see soulmates.

This work will alternate between the two eras of Hogwarts and draws attention to the many similarities of characters and relationship dynamics.

Work in progress. Hope to update weekly on Sundays.

All characters and settings belong to JKR, I just added them to this story and made them all queer. (Fuck JKR)

Chapter Text

Soulmates. Two souls that the Universe decided in all its vast wisdom and infinity would form a true pair. Perfectly balanced.

To the muggles, this was purely fiction. To the magical world hidden around them, this was simply fact. All people had soulmates they were tied to by an invisible thread only the Universe could see.

Well the Universe and Pandora Rosier that is.

Pandora knew she was different ever since she was old enough to understand what the word meant. She knew she could see things that weren't truly there. She knew her twin brother Evan couldn't see them, even though they did and saw everything together.

She knew that because of it her tutors described her as a daydreamer. Head in the clouds. The children on the playground used other words.

By the time she and Evan were set to arrive at Hogwarts she knew what it was that she was seeing. After scouring the Rosier family library for many years of her childhood she had finally come across a book detailing the legends behind soulmates.

Two souls perfectly complementing one another. Legends say that when a person finds their soulmate and falls in love, the bond only strengthens. Marked by an invisible thread.

Her unique abilities meant that Pandora could see the thread tying her parents together. She could see a thread extending from her brother Evan continuing on to locations unknown. She could not see her own.

She learned the identity of the person on the other end of Evans thread the day the twins boarded the Hogwarts express. He introduced himself as Bartemius Crouch Jr., but that they were to simply call him Barty. Pandora liked him already.

Upon their arrival to Hogwarts the three were in awe of the castle and its beauty. Stories passed down by her parents did not compare to the feeling of pure magic that washed over the students as they passed through Her wards.

A kind yet stern looking professor greeted them when it was almost time for the sorting. The large group of first year students were led into the Great Hall with its ceiling full of twinkling stars. After the sorting hat sang its song, they were called one by one in alphabetical order to be sorted into the four houses. Pandora opted out of listening to the calling of the names and the houses, and took the opportunity to look all around the hall.

The four tables were filled with eager looking students and she could practically taste their excitement. Ghosts were floating around overhead, mingling amongst the house banners and levitating candles. It was a truly magical site.

Regulus Black!

Pandora tuned back in for this one. She remembered the upset that had occurred the year before regarding his older brother Sirius Black. The Black family was notorious for their long standing unbroken history of Slytherin members. They were rumoured to be quite strict, even amongst the pureblood circles.

Thankfully Pandoras own parents were less strict regarding houses, both Ravenclaw and Slytherin were acceptable options to her parents. For members of the Sacred 28 this was rather unheard of.

Slytherin!

Regulus Black walked over to the table decorated in green and silver with his head held high, and not a glace over to his brother. Pandora looked though. She could recognize Sirius Black easily enough with his bright grey eyes and dark black hair; iconic traits of the black family. Despite his finely honed mask of indifference, Pandora could see the sadness in his expression. She didn't know what to make of that and wasn't given more time to ponder before the next interesting name was called.

Bartemius Crouch Jr.!

Barty scowled as he walked up to the stool. He had expressed on the train his distaste of following in his fathers footsteps, and Pandora was fairly certain he was going to be a quick sorting.

Slytherin!

Pandora decided to space out again until it was her brothers turn. This time she turned her attention to the faculty table and took in the adults who were to become her professors. Interestingly enough, she saw a soul thread connecting the two witches sitting on the farthest end of the table. Pandora smiled to herself.

Evan Rosier!

She knew without a doubt where her brother was going to end up.

Slytherin!

Pandora Rosier!

Taking a deep breath as all eyes turned to her, Pandora walked over to the stool and waited for the hat to be placed upon her head.

"Peculiar" A voice muttered. She had not realized the hat would be able to talk! There were so many questions she would have prepared to ask it. The hat seemed to chuckle at her thoughts. "I know exactly where to put you". And before she could think of a reply she heard the hat call out:

Ravenclaw!

Pandora stood from the stool and held her head high the way she was taught. She glanced at Evan who was sat next to Barty and saw the two grinning at her with wide smiles which she returned. At the blue and bronze table she sat down next to the boy who had been the last Ravenclaw sorted before her turn.

"Gilderoy Lockheart" he introduced himself.

"Pandora Rosier"

She could already tell that her years at Hogwarts were going to be full of adventure.
