Work Text:
Nya wanted to cling to her brother and sob in relief, of course his true potential manifested right before he was about to become a crisp in a volcano. Lloyd was currently tucked against his father’s side by two of his four arms when he spotted the Kid.
“Why is there a girl aboard?” he whined, only for his father to lightly slap him on the back of his head.
“Behave.” Garmadon scolded. Zane chuckled, placing a hand on the Kid’s shoulder.
“She helped us figure out where you had gone, we found her sick and took her in.”
Kai scowled at that, narrowing his eyes at Zane who looked away and quickly added:
“For now.”
Wu spoke up, stepping in before anyone could get super aggravated.
“Perhaps, we should go to the control room, and continue this conversation in a more private setting?”

The Kid stood by Lloyd, Lloyd didn’t know what her deal was, nor why she was on the Destiny’s Bounty, or how she had Zane and Nya wrapped around her little finger, with Wu doting occasionally.
But she was quiet, smiling at him after a small argument broke out upon the revelation that Lloyd was the Green Ninja. Lloyd determined that he did not know how he felt about the girl, she was odd yes, but she hadn’t shown any outward aggression or dislike simply due to him being the son of Garmadon.
“Your name is Lloyd, right?” she asked finally. Lloyd scoffed.
“Yeah ,that’s my name.” he muttered.
“We have room ready for you, along with some food. If you would like them, we figured the snake wouldn’t have treated you well.”
Lloyd perked up at that, because it was true, he had been treated well, he was starving at the moment, and he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep since he had been captured by the serpentine.
“Really?”
The girl nodded with a small smile.
“Well, now that you mention it, I am tired, and super hungry.”
The Kid smiled, and made a follow me motion with her hand.
Lloyd smirked and followed her out, not hearing the argument heat up, or the way his father had begun to yell, loudly.

The room had two bed rolls, one of which had an egg sandwich on it, the girl sat down on a bed roll that was tucked against the far wall, watching Lloyd tear into the sandwich with the ferocity of someone who had been kept alive with over cooked noodles and no sauce.
“Did Zane make this?” Lloyd asked around a mouthful of bread and eggs, the Kid nodded, smiling proudly.
“I helped.”
Lloyd swallowed the last of the sandwich.
“Well thank you-”
He paused, studying the girl with narrowed eyes for a few seconds.
“What’s your name anyhow?”
The girl blinked, staring at him.
“What?”
“Your
name
, you know? I mean, the guys and Nya are all calling you the Kid or kiddo, but what’s your
actual
name?”
The girl paused, her eyes darting around before she sighed.
“Mirabel.”
“That’s a weird name.”
Mirabel stared at Lloyd with an unimpressed look.
“No weirder than Lloyd .” she teased, Lloyd let out a scandalized gasp.
“You take that back!” he demanded, puffing himself up as much as a ten year old could.Mirabel let out a laugh, her eyes gleaming as she flopped back onto her own bed roll, Lloyd following her lead, flopping back onto his bed roll, it was quiet for a few more seconds.
“Hey I’ve got two questions for you.” Lloyd announced, rolling onto his stomach, Mirabel turned to face him.
“What is it?”
“Can I call you Mira?”
She smiled.
“Sure! What’s the second question?”
“Ever played Starfare?”

Mirabel didn’t exactly know how she ended up in this situation. One moment she was trying to survive on the streets, the next she was on this ship that could switch between flight and water, helping a woman who introduced herself as Nya, and watching the ninja work around her.
She didn’t mind the attention she was given, it had been ages since someone had paid attention to what she needed, what she wanted, so she wouldn’t protest too hard.
And yet, the only person who knew of her name was Lloyd Garmadon, the boy she knew for less time than the ninja and their strange sensei. And he immediately asked if he could call her by a nickname. The last person to have asked that was her cousin, and that was before her father had tried to take her and leave, only for them to get separated, and for her to wind up in Ninjago without an adult to help her.
She thought Lloyd was….nice.
Nicer than Kai at least, she didn’t know what she had done besides exist to make the Fire Ninja upset at her to the point where he glared at her every time she entered the same room or breathed the same air as the red ninja.
She didn’ mind everyone else though, Jay would let her lean over his shoulder when he was repairing the training dummy or when he was playing video games, Cole would sit beside her when she would stare out into the sky as the clouds blew by, or at night when Zane would let her help him cook, or point out constellations.
She knew that it would eventually end, all good things in her life seemed to, after all, she seemed to be a bad luck charm of some sorts, and any good luck she had, had long since run out.

“Kai why are we up this late?” Jay yawned, rubbing at his eyes, Cole and Kai were both there too, watching as Jay walked falling onto the deck.
“Look, we three know that we can barely feed all of the mouths aboard and with Lloyd beginning training, we’re going to be even lower on food.”
“What are you getting at?” Cole said after a beat of silence.
“I’m saying that we should start to make preparations to find Mirabel a-”
“Wait who?” Jay blurted out.
“Mirabel, she told Lloyd her name earlier, probably hoped he wouldn’t tell us or something, that’s not the point. Mirabel needs a home, not a constantly moving ship, with little food, or supplies aboard.”
Cole sighed.
“Sensei, Zane, and Nya are not going to like it.”
“It’s not like they’re going to find out, they’re just preparations.”
Jay and Cole shared a glance, both clearly not a fan of the idea, but in no position to argue, Kai was right, they were low on pretty much everything but water and training supplies.
“Is it settled then?” Kai asked. Jay and Cole said nothing. “Look, I don’t like it anymore than you, and in any other situation, I would be fighting to keep the kid aboard, but we have to face the facts, and the facts say we can’t keep feeding a growing crew, especially with two growing children aboard.”
Cole sighed.
“I don’t like it, but I’ll help.”
Both of them looked at Jay who huffed, fiddling with wiring.
“Well?” Kai demanded.
“...I’ll help.”
