The screen flickered to life with a soft chime, revealing a neatly arranged gaming setup bathed in cool blue lighting. Hiori leaned forward, adjusting his mic slightly before settling back in his chair. His voice came through calm and clear, low but warm, like the kind of sound you could easily leave running in the background.
“Check, check—” he says, voice low and even, watching the levels spike on his monitor. He tilts his head, listens for a moment, then nods once to himself in approval.

Hiori leans back slightly and offers a small, polite smile to the camera.
“Evenin’, everyone. Can y’all hear me alright?” He glances at the scrolling chat, eyes scanning calmly.

“Looks like everything’s working… Thanks for waitin’,” he adds, his voice carrying an easy warmth. His hand lifts in a small wave toward the camera.
“Hope y’all’ve had a decent day. I’m not emotionally prepared for ranked today, but we're doing it anyway.”
The chat floods in almost instantly.

[ Ranked Match – Game 3 of the stream ]
Game Mode: 1v1 (Sharpshot Duel) – MAP: Dustbay
Hiori loads in, already halfway through a yawn. His tone stays even, relaxed as he talks to the stream.
"Okay, we’re on Dustbay. I hate this map, but whatever. Solo duel, good warm-up.”
The match starts. Hiori dives in — fluid, efficient, calm. Headshots. Precision grenades. Quickscope. Movement perfect down to each sidestep. The kind of skill that makes even chat fall quiet sometimes, just watching.
Except this time, the enemy is matching him.
Move for move. Corner peeks, off-angle shots. Unexpected rotations. Every time Hiori thinks he’s cornered the guy, the kill gets stolen from him. Every time he regains the lead, the enemy answers it within seconds.
The kill counter hits 12–12.
Final kill. Last second. A flash, a sudden sidestep. A clean shot to the head.
Hiori loses.
Silence.
Hiori leans back slightly. Mouth parted. Just a blink. He looks at the scoreboard again. Sure enough:
DEFEAT
Score: 12–13
He blinks again. Then—
"...oh."

He clicks the friend request button.

Another moment.
Still pending.
"...he didn’t accept it," Hiori says simply. There's a beat of silence before he huffs a laugh. "Cold."

Hiori exhales again and smiles slightly at the camera. "Guess I’ll see if he shows up again in queue. That was... kinda fun."
“Alright, queuein’ up again,” Hiori says, fingers flying across the keyboard. “Let’s shake off that L.”
The loss really didn’t bother him that much. But, Hiori would be lying if he said he didn’t want to do a rematch. Hiori never lost a game in his life. All his records were perfect, and now it would have a scab on it.
Winning felt good, that was normal for many. It’s human nature to feel joy from the feeling of crushing someone else. Maybe it’s because Hiori never lost anything in his life, so he never actually experienced what it would feel like.
It’s not like Hiori enjoyed the moment he lost, but he felt more emotion than he had ever felt when winning. He felt a hint of frustration, shock, and confusion, all at once. Normal people would dislike feeling those emotions, but to Hiori, it was fascinating.
To Hiori, losing was something new, something fun. For the first time, he actually felt something after finishing a match.

He stretches, clicks through the post-game stats, and closes the scoreboard.
