Let me Help

Summary:

Athena gets a visit from Apollo.

Notes:

This is my first work on Ao3! Ive been trying to get back into writing recently, and I thought what better way to do that, then to write the Olympian siblings being siblings!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The incessant scribble of a pen on paper was the only sound in Athena's study. A stack of documents sat on the desk, alongside a well nursed glass of wine. The last glimpses of sunlight flittered through the windows, illuminating the room in a soft orange glow.

Athena sat, hunched over, attempting to fix her signature. Ink pooled in all the wrong places, soaking into the paper too fast. She sighed and brushed her brown curls out of her eyes. Her hand carelessly tossed her pen to the side and reached for the glass of wine. A soft thump. She groaned. Her pen had fallen. Ink was splattered across the desk, littering ugly droplets on the piece of paper. The text was illegible in places, blurred together with black. Her signature was splotchy and uneven, lines too thick after being gone over once, twice. She leaned back in the plush chair, and downed the rest of her wine.

Athena had been cooped up in her study since first dawn. Papers had piled up, all strewn across the desk. They had taunted her for weeks. She avoided them until she couldn't. She had a duty. Half of the initial pile remained, another days work at least.

Athena let her head roll back, resting on the chair. She was tired. Tired of the repetitive day she's had. Tired of looking at those damned documents.

A soft knock on the door brought Athena to attention. "Come in."

The door opened to reveal Apollo. His long, blonde curls swayed as he made his way towards his sister. His kind blue eyes swept over her exhaused form. "You look like shit." A soft smile crept its way onto his face.

Athena chuckled quietly. She nodded slowly, "You can say that again. Feel like it."

Apollo brushed papers away and sat on the corner of the desk. He simply looked around the study, observing the disarray of Athena's desk. He took one of the untouched papers and began to read.

"Why are you here, Apollo?" Athena raised an eyebrow. She placed her glass on the desk.

Apollo gave a soft hum, looking away from the paper. "A little birdie told me you had been hiding away in here. I came to check in on you," He stood up, "and it looks like you could use some help. Or a break. Or both." He rounded his way to the other side of the desk and picked up the discarded pen from the floor.

"The little birdie can never mind his business, can he?" Athena sighed, watching her brother. "I swear, he knows exactly what everyone is doing at all times. Its frightening."

Apollo dipped the pen in ink before signing the paper. "Hermes cares about us. It's also his job to know where we are. He was worried about you."

"Hey, thats my signature!" Athena exclaimed, grabbing the paper from Apollo.

Apollo chuckled. He grabbed the document that was splotched with ink and placed it next to the one Athena had taken from him. "Are you sure? It looks a little different from the one you did." Athena smacked his arm, a soft smile playing on her lips.

"Where did you learn to forge my signature?" She looked at her brother with an exasperated expression.

Apollo shrugged innocently. "You never know when you'll need the very busy Goddess of Wisdom's signature." Athena huffed a laugh.

"You are a piece of work," Athena shook her head, smiling.

"I am indeed," Apollo chuckled. "Would you like some help with your mountain of papers?"

Athena looked at Apollo, eyes gleaming softly. "If you wouldn't mind?"

Apollo smiled brightly, "Not at all, my dear sister."
