Work Text:

Gazing over the shoulder of Lord Aizen's guest/captive, Tier wasn't exactly sure what she was looking at. The girl was sitting on the couch, (when had that been brought here, anyways?), fixated on a strange, somewhat rectangular device that she was holding in her hands.

As the girl's fingers tapped away at an assortment of buttons laid out across the device, the images displayed on the screen changed with her inputs. In the foreground was a purple bat creature with four wings, facing off against a yellow... mouse?

Stranger still was that Harribel and Inoue found themselves joined by Aaroniero of all Arrancar, apparently the one who had secretly procured this gadget for Inoue in exchange for the girl attempting to help him overcome his weakness to sunlight.

"Oh, dear. It seems that the Tercera is still a bit confused," Aaroniero remarked in the voice of the Shinigami whose face he seemed so fond of wearing. "Could you explain it again so that she can understand, Miss Inoue?" he snidely asked.

Before Tier could suggest that the Noveno not condescend to her, Inoue happily chirped, "Sure thing, Aaroniero-san!"

Twisting around to give Tier a better look, Inoue held up the purple rectangle. "This is what's called a Game Boy Advance, Tier-san. It's a video game console, something that humans use to play these really cool things called video games!"

Furrowing her brow, Tier squinted at the images on the screen of the 'Game Boy'. "And you're playing one of these 'video games' now?"

"Yes," Inoue nodded, "Pokémon Sapphire, the newest one! Aaroniero-san got it for me."

The doesn't explain why he seemed to be so interested in it, though. Not that Harribel would normally care, but she was the one who had been appointed to watch over Inoue while the Cuarto was absent. As such, it was her duty to defend Inoue from potential threats, and she was fairly certain that Aaroniero counted as a threat.

"What..." Tier tried to find the right question, "do you actually do with it? How do you 'play' it? What is the goal?"

Inoue beamed. "You collect these adorable little animals called 'Pokémon ' and you have them battle with other Pokémon so that they can get stronger! After they battle enough, they can even evolve into stronger, cooler Pokémon !""

Huh. They fight so that they can evolve to grow stronger? That almost sounded like... "So these 'Pokémon ' are like Hollows?" Tier asked.

"Indeed, Tercera. I'm glad to see that you've finally wrapped your head around this particular concept." Aaroniero smugly intoned.

Once again, Tier's annoyed response was cut off by Inoue continuing to speak. "Normally, Pokémon are just called whatever their species is, but you can also give them personal nicknames!"

"Here," Inoue said as she pressed a button that seemed to open another interface, "let me show you the team I'm using right now."

Looking at the new menu, Tier surveyed each of the strange and colorful creatu- "That one is named 'Aaroniero'."

"That's a Ditto!" Inoue responded, as though that even began to explain it. When Tier continued to give her blank stare, Inoue continued. "Dittos can transform into other Pokémon and use their moves, just like Aaroniero-san can use the powers of other Hollows!"

"Truly an impressive being, this Ditto. Able to perfectly adapt to any situation," Aaroniero humblebragged.

Inoue then asked her to wait so that she could show Tier the rest of the 'Pokémon ' that she had stored away in the 'PC', a sort of hellish stasis that, when explained to Tier, sounded like something the Octavo would do to his Fraccion.

Finally, Inoue practically shoved the device in Tier's face. "See that one? That's Sharpedo. It's a shark, so I named it after you."

...

...

...

"Oh," Tier finally replied. "I see."
