Work Text:

The moonlight filtered gently through the slats of the bedroom blinds, casting soft silvery lines across the walls and the bed. The room was quiet, save for the rhythmic, hushed sound of breathing — a tranquil harmony of sleep shared between two women who had seen far too many battles and now, finally, could rest.

Chun-Li lay on her side, facing inward, her dark hair spread like silk across the pillow. Her hand was curled naturally around Cammy’s waist, fingers resting lightly on the curve of her lover’s hip beneath the fabric of a worn, soft T-shirt. Cammy's back was pressed against Chun-Li's front, the kind of close that came from more than just affection — it was safety, warmth, a silent promise that neither needed to say aloud.

Cammy’s blonde hair was slightly tousled, a few strands escaping from a loose braid. Her face was relaxed, almost childlike in sleep, the tension she wore during the day melted completely away. Chun-Li’s breath brushed softly against her neck in slow intervals, the rise and fall of their chests slowly syncing like they always did by the time midnight passed. The sheets were loosely tangled around their legs, a mingling of warmth and softness, of two lives wound gently together.

Then, in the quiet, a small creak sounded — the kind of tiny noise only a parent’s ears would ever learn to notice. Little feet padded across the wooden floor, hesitating just for a moment beside the bed before making a determined effort to climb. A soft huff, a small grunt of effort, and then a tiny shape crested the edge of the mattress.

Li-Fen, dressed in pale pink pyjamas patterned with stars and sleepy clouds, crawled slowly onto the bed. Her dark hair was a little messy, flattened on one side, and her eyes still heavy with sleep. She carried a small, plush rabbit in one hand, its ears dangling limply as she pulled herself forward.

Neither woman spoke as Li-Fen nestled between them, but both began to stir. Chun-Li blinked slowly, her lashes fluttering open with the instinctual awareness only a mother could possess. Her arms loosened gently from Cammy, just enough to give their daughter space. A quiet smile touched her lips as she watched the small, familiar shape settle against her.

Cammy murmured something low, the kind of half-sound that lived between a sigh and a word, her blue eyes cracking open with the softest of groggy blinks. She shifted slightly onto her back, brows lifting faintly in sleepy recognition of the tiny body curling into the warmth between them.

Li-Fen let out a soft sigh and wriggled into the curve between them. Her head found a pillow — Chun-Li’s arm becoming an impromptu cradle — and her small fingers reached out to hold onto the edge of Cammy’s shirt, bunching the fabric up in a tiny fist like an anchor.

Cammy’s arm moved instinctively and draped protectively across Li-Fen’s belly. She turned her head just enough to press a tender kiss into her daughter’s hair, a breath of affection laced with the warmth of sleep. Chun-Li’s hand stroked lightly along Li-Fen’s back, a soothing, rhythmic motion.

“Mmm… we’ve been invaded” Cammy murmured, her voice rough with sleep but unmistakably amused.

Chun-Li chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to Li-Fen’s temple “You say that like you weren’t hoping for it”

Cammy cracked a small grin and turned her head toward Chun-Li “I might’ve left the door open on purpose”

“Cheater” Chun-Li whispered, smiling against her daughter’s hair.

“I call it tactical parenting”

Chun-Li raised an eyebrow “And what’s the tactic here, soldier?”

“Flank the enemy with love” Cammy whispered, wrapping her arm tighter around the little girl between them “Surrender inevitable”

Chun-Li laughed softly, her fingers brushing Cammy’s “We surrender”

Li-Fen gave a tiny, sleepy giggle and mumbled “I win”

Both mothers melted instantly.

“Oh, you think you’ve won, little dumpling?” Cammy teased softly, leaning in and peppering light kisses along Li-Fen’s cheek, making the little girl squirm and giggle again in her half-asleep haze.

Chun-Li joined in, kissing the top of Li-Fen’s head and whispering “We’re completely outmatched, Cammy”

“We’ve raised a cuddle tyrant” Cammy murmured, nuzzling her nose against Li-Fen’s.

Li-Fen giggled again, eyes still closed but smiling now “More kisses” She whispered.

Chun-Li and Cammy didn’t hesitate — both leaning in to deliver soft, exaggerated smooches to her cheeks and forehead, grinning at the delighted squeaks she gave between sleepy sighs.

With her plush rabbit squished between her arms and two warm, laughing mums surrounding her like a blanket of safety, Li-Fen settled again, a peaceful little hum leaving her lips.

Three heartbeats, slow and steady. Three bodies sharing warmth. One small girl safe in the arms of two fierce, loving protectors.

Li-Fen let out a happy little murmur as the kisses slowed, her face nestled now between her bunny plush and Cammy’s collarbone. Chun-Li shifted slightly, careful not to disturb the cocoon of warmth too much, and gently rolled onto her back.

With a quiet grin, she guided Li-Fen upward, lifting her just enough to settle the girl carefully on her chest. Li-Fen blinked groggily at the movement but made no protest, her little hands bracing against Chun-Li’s shoulders as she found her balance.

Chun-Li smiled up at her “Look at this tiny conqueror” She whispered, voice husky with fondness “Taking over my heart, my bed… and now my lungs”

Li-Fen giggled, swaying slightly on her perch, her sleepy eyes crinkling “I’m not heavy!”

“Not yet” Chun-Li teased, slipping her hands beneath Li-Fen’s arms and letting her fingers rest lightly at the girl’s sides.

Li-Fen gave a questioning hum—then let out a surprised squeal when Chun-Li’s fingers wiggled gently against her ribs.

“Mommy!” She half-laughed, half-whined, her arms pulling in protectively as she squirmed atop Chun-Li’s chest.

“Oh no, I’ve found your weakness!” Chun-Li said in mock seriousness, grinning as she delivered another round of light tickles, careful and playful, just enough to hear that high-pitched giggle she loved more than anything in the world.

“Stop—stop! I’ll fall!” Li-Fen gasped through laughter, eyes shining now.

“I’ve got you, little one” Chun-Li murmured, steadying her with one hand while the other slowed its teasing assault. She pulled the girl forward and nuzzled her nose against Li-Fen’s cheek “You’re safe with me”

Cammy, watching from her side of the bed, chuckled softly “And here I thought I was the sneaky one” She said, propping her head on her hand as she admired the sight “Turns out you’re the real troublemaker”

Chun-Li smirked and raised an eyebrow “She started it. Invasion, remember?”

Li-Fen beamed, her hair a sleepy mess as she flopped forward to hug Chun-Li’s neck “I win again”

“You certainly do” Cammy murmured, leaning over to kiss Li-Fen’s back and then Chun-Li’s shoulder “And you’re both ridiculous.”

“And you love us for it” Chun-Li teased.

Cammy gave a small snort “I do”

Li-Fen settled again, stretched long against Chun-Li’s chest, warm and content, letting out a tiny yawn as her eyelids fluttered once more.

The night cradled them all again — two warriors and their daughter, tangled in soft sheets and softer love.

Li-Fen’s little body rose and fell gently with Chun-Li’s steady breathing, her eyes fluttering as sleep tried to pull her back under. But before it could claim her again, warm hands slipped beneath her arms.

“Come here, starlight” Cammy whispered softly.

Chun-Li gave a faint, amused hum, loosening her embrace as Cammy carefully lifted the girl from her chest. Li-Fen let out a content sigh, her cheek resting against Cammy’s shoulder as her tiny arms draped around her mother’s neck. Cammy stood from the bed with practised grace, cradling the little girl close, her steps nearly silent as she moved through the dim room.

She approached the tall balcony doors and pushed them open slowly. A whisper of cool air drifted in, brushing over her bare arms. The curtains stirred like ghosts, parting just enough for her to step outside into the night.

Above them stretched a sky deep and endless, painted in layers of indigo and navy. Stars glittered like pinpricks in velvet, scattered across the heavens in quiet celebration. The moon hung low and full, casting a silver sheen over the treetops and rooftops beyond.

Cammy gently shifted Li-Fen in her arms, letting the little girl sit perched against her hip. One arm wrapped securely around her middle while the other gestured to the sky.

“Look” She whispered, her voice barely louder than the night breeze “They’re all awake too”

Li-Fen’s sleepy eyes opened a bit more, following her mum’s hand. She let out a soft sound — part yawn, part wonder — and leaned her head against Cammy’s shoulder “Stars…”

“Mhm” Cammy murmured, brushing a kiss into her daughter’s hair “See that one? The bright one near the moon? That’s your star. The one that watches over you when you sneak into our bed”

Li-Fen giggled faintly, curling against her mother’s warmth “It’s sparkly”

“Just like you” Cammy said softly. She rocked her gently, eyes turned skyward. “When I was little, I used to think the stars were tiny lamps — one for every person who made it through the day”

“Do we get one too?”

Cammy smiled, resting her chin lightly atop the girl’s head “We get three. Right there, together. You, me, and Mummy”

From the bed, Chun-Li leaned on her elbow, watching them with a tender gaze. The breeze played gently with her hair as she whispered “Don’t stay too long out there. My arms are empty without you both”

Cammy glanced back and gave her a soft, crooked smile “Just showing our girl how big the sky is. And how safe she is under it”

Li-Fen nuzzled closer, sighing against Cammy’s neck “I like it here”

“I know, sweetheart” Cammy kissed her cheek “Me too”

And for a while, they stood there — beneath the stars, wrapped in moonlight and peace — before the night slowly welcomed them back to warmth and sleep.

Cammy lingered on the balcony just a moment longer, holding Li-Fen close, swaying slightly with the breeze as the stars blinked above them like distant lullabies. Then, with one last glance at the moonlit sky, she turned and stepped quietly back into the room, closing the doors behind her with a gentle click.

Chun-Li was still awake, lying on her side with an arm stretched across the bed, waiting. Her expression softened the moment Cammy approached.

“Welcome back” She murmured.

Cammy climbed carefully onto the mattress and lowered herself beside Chun-Li, gently settling Li-Fen back in the space between them. The little girl let out a sigh of comfort as the warmth of both her mothers surrounded her again.

She shifted slightly, pressing her cheek against Chun-Li’s collarbone and resting her foot lightly against Cammy’s thigh. Her bunny plush was still clutched in one hand, but the other found Chun-Li’s fingers, curling around them instinctively.

There was a long, quiet pause filled only with the rhythm of shared breath. Then, in a small, sleepy voice that trembled at the edges with love too big for her tiny frame, Li-Fen whispered:

“I love you both… so much”

Chun-Li’s hand closed gently around her daughter’s, pulling it up to kiss the tiny knuckles “We love you more than all the stars we just saw”

Cammy leaned in, brushing a few stray hairs from Li-Fen’s face “Even more than chocolate pancakes. And that’s saying something”

Li-Fen giggled sleepily “Mummy says you always steal her pancakes”

“Lies” Cammy murmured, though the smirk tugging at her lips betrayed her.

Chun-Li gave a soft chuckle and kissed the top of Li-Fen’s head “She absolutely does”

Li-Fen gave a satisfied hum and wriggled closer between them, her smile sleepy but radiant “I’m glad you’re my mums”

They pulled in tighter around her — two warriors wrapped around the girl who had stolen their hearts—pressing quiet kisses to her brow, her cheeks, the crown of her head.

The world outside was vast and star-lit, but in this little corner of the night, everything Li-Fen loved most was already right here.

And just like that, the warmth of her family lulled her back into the safest sleep there was.
