Chapter 1: this is what falling in love feels like
Chapter Text
ClassicMasterNoob was sitting in the mess deck. He was surrounded by a group of strangers who believed themselves “men.” Their physical features may have represented that of an XY chromosome, but their minds seemed to be that of a newborn fetus. He was a moderator, but he had recently decided to go in and pretend to be just another rank so he could check in on these people. He was on the Cis Mira currently, observing the others he would come to call “his mates”. His eyes wandered towards the once polished wood, streaks of age and time staining it in lighter and darker colors. The dark door creaked open, it’s hinges creaking as if an old scream had been ripped out of it.
That’s when he saw him.
Time seemed to slow, or maybe the effects of those funky tasting EpiPens he drank earlier were starting to kick in.
Either way, his heartbeat seemed to race- Whether it be from a very concerning medicine that should not have been in his esophagus right now- Or from… A different thing. One he dared not to give a name. Giving a name meant it was important, and he couldn’t bear to say it had importance. Not to him.
A bald, shiny head reflected in the glimmer of his eyes. Wait, no nvm bro just grew luscious bacon locks in a matter of moments whateva bruh I don’t get paid enough for ts. That man had dark blue sunglasses, ceiling lights glimmering in it, but he could see joyful windows of souls lying beneath the opaque lenses.
He was… beautiful.
Who was he?
Why did he feel so crimson? Was it? No. Don’t think it. He couldn’t. It would pass. What if he didn’t want it to? Thoughts swirled the moderator’s head. A simple mission. Yet here he was catching feelings. He thought of things he tried so desperately to get rid of, but it was as a moth to a flame. Soulmates. Lovers. Spouses. There was a million possibilities- How many of them were real? How many more universes than those possibilities were there? He had to stop thinking of that man. He was being silly. This thing he was feeling, deeply-rooted and invested in his soul, he had to pull it out. Before the seed spread and before it could reach the deepest strings of his very spirit- He had to pull it. But it felt too much. Could he really get rid of it without getting rid of something vital?
His breath hitched. Warmth spread to his cheeks. The non-freaky ones. His heartbeat increased, chest tightening as if somebody was trying to squeeze this- this thing out of him. He’d probably thank them if they managed to do that. Might also be the EpiPen but this feeling- This emotion. It had to be something truly powerful. He hadn’t felt this before. Not for a long time, for as long as he could remember.
It had been a while since ClassicMasterNoob had felt love. He used to think it was dumb. That love was simply just an emotion that distracted others. He would tell others to just pull away. He had thought it so easy. He had thought it as simple as releasing a firefly from a glass jar. But he never realized. He wished it was so easy. It didn’t feel like something so simple. It felt more like a waiting panther in a metal safe. He could try all he wanted to conceal and keep it locked up, but it would escape. The panther was patient, waiting for a single moment where it may escape, after all, they can be so quick, right? It could sneak out in a flash when the cage it was in opened just a smidge. Love was uncontrollable. Deep love was even wilder. He wished it wasn’t. The cat getting out was not a matter of if. It was a matter of when.
So when was ClassicMasterNoob’s feelings going to explode out of the far-too-tight, far-too-suppressed state? When would it grow its wings, grow too big for its prison, and spread them, yes non-freaky ones again stop thinking that u dum dum meanie poopy head. When would the bird grow too big and escape the locks and confinements?
When would he break?
POV SWITCH
DDN had just walked into the mess deck. He was talking to his friend who was on break currently. Food was legit dog feces but aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
His dear friend’s name was Noah Jackson. Chief Petty Officer Jackson, as was his formal name. Most people knew him by that, or more accurately would probably be slapped like Chris Rock at the Grammys if they called him anything more informal.
He felt eyes on him, but he couldn’t really be bothered to look at who it was. Likely some rookie observing the room. He was smiling and joking with Noah, who was softer when with those he knew. And for some reason, even softer with DDN. DDN grabbed Noah’s arm, and he heard Noah’s breath hitch for some odd reason. He dragged him over to a mainly empty table aside from some loner wannabes. Noah and DDN simply talked about anything, nothing really strung together, but when you get comfortable enough to someone, there’s not really a need for formalities or any of the things you speak of connecting. I mean, that is you do have friends lol big L. They had back and forth chatter, vocalizing their minds about nothing in particular. Just about whatever, really.
“Yeah, had a terrible rookie earlier. Missed the planes and just started blasting away hoping to get something.” Noah snorted. DDN laughed. They talked more about how “kids nowadays” and whatnot, even though they low-key fetuses if you fr fr think about how old they are in terms of existence and not lore n stuff lol skibid gyat rizz. It was nice having a friend. Their camaraderie mingled in with other’s chatter. They seemed so happy with each other, and they truly did seem so glad with each other. Talking about nothing in particular, draining your brain of things to talk about- It’s nice, sometimes.
Eventually, DDN had to go, after all, he had a job, he wasn’t here for only talks, he was a sailor, and he had to go help out at other places on the metal battleship. He waved goodbye to the put-in-a-good-mood Noah, and went off, closing the door behind him.
He didn’t notice the lovestricken gaze of ClassicMasterNoob.
Or the one of Noah Jackson.
They did notice each other, though. Maybe not for the best.
POV SWITCH
Who did this guy think he was? He was somebody important to that beautiful bacon man, he knew that for sure. He couldn’t help but absolutely want to tear this stupid man’s guts out upon seeing that desperate and pathetic look of pure love on that guy’s face. Seemed it was mutual. ClassicMasterNoob was annoyed. They stared at each other for a while longer, glaring and squinting. Eventually, some other guy came over to the man with the hat and he got up, remaining eye contact a while longer before having to go. Seemed he had a duty to do. Whatever. ClassicMasterNoob was getting tired of it anyways.
He got up from his seat and walked away from the numbing conversations of it all. He needed a walk around the ship to take his mind off… him. He passed by the medical bay. “Yeah, some idiot secretly got into the stash earlier and drank all the EpiPens. So, sorry but we can’t-“ He overheard some medic say, but he couldn’t bother to try and tune in on the rest of his sentence as he walked, hearing more and more words that entered one ear and left the other.
He just couldn’t stop focusing on… him.
Chapter 2: The Red Means I Love You
Summary:
Noah Jackson has always had a deep sense of camaraderie with DDN. But that isn’t the entire truth. It was something much deeper than simple friendships, at least on Noah’s end.
But, Noah saw the way that lovesick fool had stared at DDN, the way he looked as if he had just seen the cure to a deadly plague.
He can’t let him have this cure.

Chapter Text
Noah Jackson, or Chief Petty Officer Jackson, as is his formal title.
Most people would just address him as Noah. He was just a chill guy. He was usually fun to be around, maybe a bit rough or strict around the edges, but it’s the only way to survive in this dog-eat-dog world. But he was a lot more kind than some of the others, and he was especially nice to those that really stuck around to get to know him. He even gained a lot of aura and rizz for women, and men.
Then, there was his best friend.
DDN.
DDN made him feel a lot different than others. DDN wasn’t like the other girls. Because he wasn’t a girl, and was in fact a strong manly man. Spending time with DDN made his heart beat like the galloping of a horse that was running for its life.
He would still want other things, obviously, like a promotion or a comfortable home to live happily in and all, but DDN? He just was special to him. If all he had was his best friend he wouldn’t mind at all.
On breaks, sometimes he would get lost in his thoughts- He’d think about the two of them, holding hands, where they would laugh and smile, and where that day, just that maybe one day, it wouldn’t be just because they held a platonic skibidi.
They fit well, they’re perfect for each other, DDN is perfect, really. He knows they’d be just amazing together, and he just wants to be more than friends.
After all, they connected ever since the day they met. How could he forget it?
——————————————————
Noah Jackson was porting some boxes he had to unpack. The sky was a muted blue, as if the moon was just absorbing the sky’s energy, leaving it lifeless and falling slowly, making way for a new light. The boxes were just some things he would need. Guys told him he would need to train the incoming rookies as part of his promotion. Not much of a problem. He would welcome them like he needed back then. He knew these kids would likely need encouragement for the upcoming terrors of war.
Suddenly, he bumped into somebody, the bigback boxes falling out of his hands.
Noah Jackson grunted, now on the floor. He got up, scrambling to pick up the two giant boxes, reaching to put his hand on top of it, as if it was not a box and was instead high school books like wth bruh I don’t get paid for this 💔. He felt flesh connect on top of his right at the same time, both flinching back as if a jolt of electricity had coursed through them. He looked up, seeing a bald oh wait I forgot I mean savory looking baconette. He looked into those deep blue lenses. His face looked as if a man and a woman had a child together. “Hah- Sorry, I didn’t realize…” Noah said, smiling somewhat awkwardly.
”Oh, it’s fine. That was my bad, didn’t see where I was going.” The man replied, actually wrapping his hands around the box like a person properly trying to pick it up, instead of some imbecile trying to pick the boxes up like weights.
“Well, thanks anyways. Mind helping me carry these for a little? The boxes are a bit heavy.” Noah responded with a sigh, and the man nodded, grabbing one of the boxes and lifting it up in his two arms that happened to be attached to his shoulders.
“Yup. Oh, and the name’s DDN.”
”Noah Jackson.”
——————————————————
And so began the friendship of the century. They hit it off pretty well, and here they were, best friends. Which sounded almost silly in such a desolate place. Sometimes, Noah couldn’t help but wish for… Something more. But… Someone seemed to be threatening their relationship. Noah had never seen this guy before, but he didn’t like him. The way that fellow looked at DDN. It couldn’t be.
He knew that look. He knew it far too well. The only one he ever wanted to also see it on was DDN.
Yet there it was.
Noah Jackson had about two options. Confess to DDN first, which would require the latter being in love with Noah in the first place- Or he could just get rid of the competition. Noah Jackson wasn’t really a violent man though, he would find a different way. Either way, DDN was his.
