Work Text:

“Hyung! Hyung! This one! It’s this one!” A little Yujin squeals dragging his older brother behind him.

Hanbin nearly trips at the sheer strength Yujin pulls him with, who knew 4 year olds could have this much strength he thinks rolling his eyes spotting his younger brother Gyuvin holding in a laugh.

“You good there Hyung?” Gyuvin asks, sniggering as they get dragged to the 8th toy store of the day looking for some car set Yujin had saw his classmate bring into school.

Hanbin scowls in response before focusing back to Yujin who had seemingly found the cars.

Hanbin bends down to Yujin’s height after finally being let go from the child’s death grip. He looks at Yujin, with his eyes wide and bright bunny smile, Hanbin’s face mirrors his joy. Hanbin loves both his brothers equally but he can’t help but have a little soft spot for Yujin as the baby of the family.

“Choose what ever you want okay! Hyung will buy it for you!” Hanbin tells the boy, stroking his hair. Yujin jumps in joy giving his brother a big wet smooch in the cheek before his bounding up and down the aisle choosing his favourite.

Hanbin feels Gyuvin press against him, his arm thrown around his shoulders and a childish grin on his face, the kind of smile that makes him look 10 instead of 16. Hanbin rolls his eyes, already knowing the reason behind his brother’s clingy attitude “I’ll get you something as well.” Hanbin says with a sigh.

Gyuvin jumps as well, “See this is why you’re my favourite Hyung!” He says, patting Hanbin’s shoulders.

“I’m your only Hyung.” Hanbin responds deadpanned just to be met with a shrug from Gyuvin.

After much deliberation over what colour to get, Yujin picked the most expensive car set the store sold because according to Yujin he needed all the colours, Hanbin just stared at the price in shock but couldn’t say no to the doe eyes his brother sported whilst hugging the cars to his chest. If Hanbin teared up a little whilst tapping his card no one needed to know, apart from Gyuvin, who had filmed his brother’s misery and sent it to the family group chat.

This led to a very prompt phone call from his mother.

“Sung Hanbin! What did I say about spoiling your brothers!” His mother screamed through the phone, as Hanbin grabbed Yujin’s hand to get in the escalator.

He could hear Gyuvin giggling behind him but blocked it out, probably laughing at him, again.

“Eomma it’s fine. You know I got promoted as a main teacher at the studio. Let me use my hard earned money to treat my brothers okay.” Hanbin reasons, but is still met with a harsh scolding on the other end of the line. It is then Hanbin realises that Yujin’s hands had gotten bigger, and seemed to have calluses on his fingertips. Turning around Hanbin is met with the face of an angel.

Big doe eyes and pouty lips adorn the man’s face. His red hair framing his face and an embarrassed flush painting his cheeks, Hanbin shrieks in surprise and quickly lets go of the man’s hand. Hanbin looks behind seeing Gyuvin laughing so hard there are tears streaming and holding hands with a confused Yujin.

“I’m so sorry, I was just so distracted from my phone call I didn’t even notice I grabbed you and not my brother.” Hanbin raps out to the beautiful stranger.

“It’s okay, but you might want to get off.” The stranger replies back, pointing behind him.

Hanbin turns around to see they were already at the end of the escalator, he stumbles off of it. Not the greatest first impression in front of the man that looked like he stepped out of Hanbin’s dreams. “I’m so sorry again.” Hanbin says, his face burns in embarrassment as he watches the man laugh.

“That’s okay. I’m also at fault to be fair, l was too embarrassed I couldn’t find the right time to tell you” the stranger says in the most melodious tone Hanbin was sure this is what you hear at the gates of heaven, “Just be careful next time, and pay more attention.” The man says before waking away.

Hanbin nods sheepishly grabbing the actual Yujin’s hand and watches the boy leave.

“He’s so your type.” Gyuvin states, finally over his laughing fit.

Hanbin sighs, the stranger really was his type but he had made the most embarrassing first impression and had probably lost all interest the man could have ever had for him.

“That’s okay. You can get over your embarrassment with retail therapy!” Gyuvin exclaims.

Hanbin shakes his head no, “I’m good Gyuvin, let’s just go home.” He says before being met with a confused Gyuvin.

“I meant for me, I choose, you pay!” Gyuvin says like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Before Hanbin can say anything Gyuvin waltzes into a shoe store insisting Hanbin had promised to buy him something. Hanbin responds with a low grumble before he’s pulled in again by little Yujin.

After what felt like 2 years Gyuvin finally chooses shoes that are two classes worth of Hanbin’s pay (he shut his eyes when he taps his card this time) then they let Yujin lead the way to his favourite hotpot restaurant that always gave him toys and treats whenever they ate there.

It’s chaos getting to their seats, with Gyuvin and Yujin fighting over a packet of crisps the lady had gave them, so much so Hanbin doesn’t notice a red haired boy sitting right behind him, “Gyuvin stop fighting with a 4 year old when you’re literally 12 years older than him!” Hanbin scolds trying to hold Yujin down from scrambling across the table to fight Gyuvin.

Gyuvin is oddly silent which Hanbin knows means nothing but trouble. He looks up seeing the boy biting to lips to hold in his laughter. Hanbin raises his eyebrows in response, head tilted asking for an explanation. Gyuvin just points to look behind, hiding his laugh behind his other hand. Hanbin turns and swears the whole world spins in slow motion when he meets eyes with the red haired stranger from the escalator.

“What a coincidence.” The stranger says before turning back to his meal. Hanbin stares shocked, his face is hot and red like a boiled tomato and Gyuvin’s incessant laughter does not help. He excuses himself to the toilet, telling Gyuvin to order and take care of Yujin.

When he reaches the toilet he splashes his face with cold water ignoring the weirded out stares of the people around him. He dries off his face with a paper towel and gives himself a pep talk in the mirror. “You can do this. It’s fine, act cool.” He repeats like a mantra. He takes another deep breath and finally walks back to the table where their soup had already been placed.

It’s not all that smooth sailing after. Gyuvin spills soup all over his shirt and leaves to buy a new one leaving Hanbin all alone to feed and cook for Yujin. Yujin is no better insisting in trying the spicy soup despite Hanbin’s advice that it turn his tongue into anger from inside out, this backfire because apparently anger is cool to 4 year old boys so Yujin just stares with a challenging smirk. As expected it’s too spicy and Hanbin is having to scramble around, placing the meat on the water trolley next to him to get some water for the poor child.

After the whole situation Yujin finally agrees to eating the mushroom soup instead letting Hanbin freely cook some meat for the boy.

“Hyung I only ordered one plate of meat.” Gyuvin says as he returns to his seat in a new shirt.

Hanbin nods dumping half the plate into the soup. “Hyung look beside you.” Gyuvin says a laugh about to burst again.
Hanbin looks to his side and surely enough the plate of meat is still there, messily placed on top of the cutlery after he rushed to get water. He sees the trolley right next to their’s that’s filled with specialty meat and one plate of beef slices missing from the top, the same slices that Hanbin has just dumped into their soup.

Hanbin face plants into his palms groaning, can this day get any worse he thinks. He takes a deep breath ready to apologise to the man but sees that he’s occupied with a show that seems to be intense if the classic water splashing scene is anything to go by. It’s then that gets the questionable idea l to cook the food for the man, his way of apologising for all the trouble he’s caused. He places all the cooked meat into a bowl along with some extras such as rice cakes and noodles turning around with upmost confidence.

“This is for you.” Hanbin says to the man who stares in confusion. “I cooked it for you, to say sorry.”Hanbin says but his confidence is dwindling, the boys eyebrows furrow in confusion making Hanbin break, “I accidentally took half of your meat so I cooked it all for you and now it’s in this bowl I really didn’t mean too I’m so sorry.” Hanbin rambles, his cheeks flushing again.

The boy laughs again taking the bowl. “Thank you I guess.” He says smiling his beautiful smile leaving Hanbin enchanted. “Hopefully there’s no more accidents after this.” The stranger says before turning to his meal.

Hanbin turns back to his as well watching Gyuvin catch his breath after yet another laughing fit over his brother’s circumstances. Hanbin just huffs, shoving a piece of meat into his mouth willing his mind to forget this day ever happened. It works until about a week later at the beginning of one of his dance classes.

Hanbin had put his zip up down on the sofa outside his studio after he finished his first class of the day before rushing to the lobby to help Matthew with the check-ins for his next class. Thing is Hanbin is popular with hundreds of people always cueing up hoping someone drops out or doesn’t make it to his class, meaning he’s usually in a frantic rush to get people into the studio and the rest out of the lobby which today, made him 5 minutes late to his next class. He runs back to his studio grabbing his jacket shoving it on whilst he walks into class.

People scream and holler as he walks in, phones high recording him like he’s an idol. He breathes it all in, the joy in his face evident and feeling his heart fill with so much warmth to see so many people there to learn from him. The feelings all bubble in his chest he says a quick introduction before going into the warm up.

Someone walks in halfway through the warm up, looking sheepish probably because he’s late. Hanbin notices s the person seems to curl into himself as well, almost as if he’s embarrassed, but it’s fine he supposes, it’s probably a new dancer who feels a bit apprehensive he thinks.

They get past the warm up and finally move on to the actual lesson. Hanbin as usual focuses on the students, finding things he needs to explain and people he needs to praise, he then starts choosing small groups to perform his choreo, he walks around picking out Gyuvin, and a few other dancers his brother’s age who regularly attend his classes like Gunwook and Ricky. His eyes glance over a red haired person whose moves flow smoothly but still powerful with a slight edge of something sassier, he realises it’s the late comer who had seemed so shy at the beginning. It’s this that Hanbin loves, seeing people grow in confidence and glow with dance, he promptly adds him to Gyuvin’s groups of seasoned dancers.

When he calls up Gyuvin’s group the room starts hollering again with some whistles here and there Hanbin smiles from the speakers admiring the way everyone hypes each other up but it’s not until he spots Gyuvin and Ricky laughing with all their might does he realise something must be off.

Hanbin stands in front of the group getting ready to film and finally sees the red haired boys face up close. The same red haired boy from the most embarrassing day of Hanbin’s life was now in his class wearing his coat. Hanbin stills, the personalised adidas zip up with his name embroidered on the front was now on the man in front of him. He looks down inspecting the one he’s wearing, looking exactly the same apart from the name Zhanghao embroidered across his chest.

Hanbin’s face heats up in flames again, begging the world to swallow him up right then and there. It’s there he remembers there were two jackets on the sofa but in his rush to get in on time he hadn’t bothered to check which one was his. How he managed to mess up again in front of the beautiful stranger he’ll never know, but then the music starts and Hanbin clicks back into serious mode, he’ll deal with this later.

At the end of class Gyuvin and Ricky are giggling as Hanbin and the redhead avoid eyes.

“Hyung, this is a surprise.” Ricky says still giggling. Hanbin takes a deep breath, ready to face the teasing of the two, “I didn’t know you were dating my brother.” Ricky continues. Hanbin is shocked, eyes blinking rapidly, looking back and forth between the two finding the resemblance.

“Quanrui don’t start.” The stranger scolds, face painted with that beautiful blush he had the first time they met.

Ricky just giggles, sticking his tongue out at the boy, “Hanbin Hyung meet my older brother Zhanghao! He came two weeks ago to do his masters in teaching at Yonsei! Actually I think you two are in the same classes!” Ricky exclaims but with a hint of teasing in his tone.

Zhanghao looks up at him, somewhat shocked, “You also? He asks.

Hanbin’s face turns into a teasing smirk “Hyung and I have a lot in common.” Hanbin says leaving the other flustered.

Zhanghao takes off the jacket passing it back to Hanbin. “This is yours. I left mine on the sofa when I went to the toilet, I didn’t realise yours was there as well. ” He says, not able to meet eyes with Hanbin who laughs taking off his but giving both back to him.

“Keep it. It suits you.” Hanbin says, spinning the situation to his favour, this is his chance to get closer to the pretty boy and make up for all those embarrassing moments he had in front of him. Zhanghao coughs, shocked maybe even a little overwhelmed by Hanbin’s flirting but still takes both. “So we’re in the same classes, I guess I have to help you out.” Hanbin adds, whipping out his phone and handing it to Zhanghao.

Gyuvin and Ricky watch on, watching the blush spread on their brother’s cheeks and the distance disappear between the two.

“I bet you 30,000 won they’ll be dating by next class.” Ricky challenges, hand outstretched in front of Gyuvin, “deal! I say by our third class, Hanbin Hyung can be a bit dense.”Gyuvin replies shaking hands.

Two weeks later Gyuvin fake vomits handing Ricky his 30,000 watching their brothers flirt shamelessly in front of their class, with Hanbin’s arm around Zhanghao’s waist and Zhanghao’s fingers trailing over the others chest as he giggles burying his face into Hanbin’s shoulder.

“I should’ve let him trip on that escalator.” Gyuvin mumbles.

I wrote this after watching it happen in a TikTok : https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdDkykXa/ and could imagine Hanbin doing the same thing, therefore I wrote this instead of sleeping!
