Outside the Halstead-Upton household is a ' touchpad ' that chimes when stepped on--seconds after it sounded, Maddy Elizabeth
Halstead jumped from where she stood on the sofa to the carpet and made an immediate beeline to the front door, yelling "YAY--IT'S
DADDY!! YAY!!"

"Shhhh--Maddeline Elizabeth Halstead: you'll wake the baby!" Hailey Upstead hissed.

Her baby sister started to wail, which Mads ignored, hopping excitedly up and down at the home's entrance. "DADDYDADDYDADDY!"
she chanted until her Daddy grabbed her up and swept her up into the air. "I'm here for a noise complaint!" he joked, raining kisses
on his daughter's giggling face. "Hi, Daddy!" she yelled in his face.

"Shhh, Babygirl...Shhh; Shhh....Kenley's crying," her dad shushed her.

"YOU, Dad...YOU make her 'wake!" the three-year-old countered.

By the time Jay and Maddy reached where Hailey sat nursing Kenley; she had settled down somewhat. "It's Daddy's fault, Mama."

"O...Kaaay." Hailey tucked herself away with a roll of her eyes. "I'll get dinner once I put this one down," she told Jay.

Just before Hailey set the table, Maddy announced, "Wash hands, Daddy!"

She stood on her little step stool while she and Jay washed and dried their hands. Mads sat in her high chair near her mother while
her parents discuss the next day's Father's Day picnic, sponsored by the 21st Precinct. During a pause in the discussion, Maddy chose
to state "MY Daddy!"

Chapter 2: Two-Station 19/Grey's Anatomy

Summary:

MAYA/CARINA/JACK/NICOLA ANDREA GIBSON DELUCA BISHOP

LT Maya Bishop and her wife, Carina DeLuca, and CAPT CANDIDATE Jack Gibson share a child via...' natural means ' (Maya
and Jack's tryst resulted in the birth of NICO)

Chapter Text

"You're so big! Are you sure it's not twins?"

"You don't look pregnant!"

"Sleep now while you can!"

"Wave bye-bye' to sex!"

"Was your baby planned?"

"WOW...pregnancy's done wonders for YOUR BOOBS...they were big before but JESUS!
(This gem from the so respectful, so considerate SEAN BECKETT (SURPRISE!).

And lastly: "No JOE'S or EMERALD BAR for you, Sister!"

These are but a partial list of all the remarks strangers or sometimes family and/or friends have made to Maya Bishop during
her pregnancy and it irks the new mother to NO END -- especially that asshole BECKETT, the current fill-in as Captain of '19' (the
current Captain -- Andy Herrera-Sullivan -- had been on maternity leave for more than a month, and unfortunately budget cuts
and 'The Old Boy's Network' has saddled the station with an incompetent, abusive, and frequently drunk leader who put down and
harried the female SFD members (except Andy, whose husband, Robert Sullivan, is a Battalion Chief who physically cowed Beckett
into leaving her be). Thankfully, his hazing of Maya had abated since Chief Lucas Ripley's mandate against hazing.

Nico stood on the other end of the sofa from his Mom, a pacifier plugged into his little mouth, watching Baby Shark (Momma Carina
was still on shift, and Maya texted back and forth with Andy about a playdate the next afternoon with the latter's twin daughters) when
the doorbell sounded, prompting Nico to pop his paci out of his mouth and cry, "Daddy! Hi Daddy!"

"AhAh...you stay there, Mister--right there, Nico!" Maya warned in her best 'Mommy' voice before allowing Jack, the baby's father
entrance. "Nicola!" he hailed, on the way to the living area. "Yay! Yay, Daaady!" the little fella fellow answered. "Hi, Dad!" he held his
little arms out to be picked up. He pointed out the Baby Shark program playing for the BILLIONTH time on the big screen, and insisted
that Jack sings along. After forty-five minutes or so, Nico was put to bed, and the two adults shared a beer, waiting for Carina to finish
her shift.

ELENA 'YOYO' RODRIGUEZ/ALPHONSO 'MACK' MACKENZIE/ALONZO JOHN MACKENZIE RODRIGUEZ

YoYo and Mack have an eighteen-month-old 'Flint' and YoYo's due within the next two to three months

Esta gente REESTUPIDA...MARANA...INUTIL que tienen nervios a hacerme preguntas IDIOTAS que..."

Flint, his mouth full of scrambled eggs and hominy, warned, "MAMI!"

"¿Mandame, Amorcito ?"

"Das not nice what you say."

Elena grinned happily and wiped her baby's mouth. "I know, Precious; Mami is sorry."

"Dooce!" was Flint's response. "Muy bien, Señor...aqui tiene su jugo ."

Fifteen minutes later, Mack shuffled out of the master bedroom, wearing a belted bathrobe, strappy tee shirt, leisure pants, and
slippers. "Papi; Mi Papi!" Flint yelped. "Hello, Papas," he hailed back. Bending to kiss his son's lips, grunting slightly when his back
twinged. "Sit, sit mi vida (my darling/my life) Elena urged, guiding him by the elbow to his usual seat at the head of the kitchen
table. "Breakfast, my King?"

"Please."

YoYo serves reheated beans, rice, eggs, and grilled beef with arepa, chorizo, chicharrón [ground corn flatbread, ground sausage, and pork
rind] with coffee as a beverage. Alonzo/Flint, of course, goes into 'grabby' mode, which his mother solves with a Sippy Cup of tepid hot
chocolate which he snatches greedily [GRABBY, I tell you!]

Having already breakfasted, Elena watches the interaction between her man and her toddler, reflecting on how much she'd always desired
first Mack, then a family with him; she never doubted his excellence as a father. He giggles aloud when the baby tries to stuff Daddy's mouth
with a mishmash of pureed hominy and egg, which the big man cheerfully accepts [though a good bit of it ends up on his cheeks and beard];
brandishing a long strip of bacon, Flint crows, "RACON!" and adds it to Mack's mostly full mouth: "Muah Muah Muah; Oh, SORRY - I think you
are tocino; Muah Muah Muah - disculpe, piensaba que era blanquillo !" Mack chants, pretending to eat his baby's fingers, eliciting a gleeful
squeal from the tot. Elena waits until their son is down before approaching The Love Of Her Life and engaging their lips deeply and soulfully:
when they separate breathlessly, she gasps, "After I 'lost my arms' in that alternate time, Other Me Told Other Jemma, I want to be with Mack
forever - have his children and love him for the rest of our lives - that reality will be more complete when this one arrives," touching her belly.
"Thank you. I love you."

"I love you" he replies.

Chapter 5: Five-Blindspot TV

Chapter Text

"...I won't stop...I'll keep fighting...I'll keep the faith...we'll never stop saying your name...the world will know what you did
that day, we'll make sure they know. READE: I love you. I GOT YOU...ALWAYS.

Natalia Maria Reade Zapata toddled sleepily over to the Barcalounger her mother sat on. Halfway there, she dropped to the carpet and
crawled the rest of the way. "Mamaaas!" Tasha called, greeting her baby. Most times, seeing the Little One was both joyous and painful:
before her DADDY CAME BACK, at least...Nat dragged herself up the hem of her Mami's skirt. Tiny arms lifted high, Nat
whined "Uppies" and was lifted onto the seat next to her Mama. Soon, Nat started tugging at Tasha's t-shirt insistently, and muttering
"Gimmme...Maammi"...

Tasha's weaning her off the breast (make that TRYING TO), and while adult and child went back and forth over the baby's feed - with
Mom winning out - Reade padded down the hall to join his family. "Reade!" Zapata hailed.

The baby wriggled around until she could see her Daddy, holding out an arm in invitation. Popping her lips off the nipple of her 'ba-ba'
echoing Tasha's greeting: "Weed"

He told me, I've seen it rise
But, it always falls
I've seen 'em come, I've seen 'em go

He said "All things pass, into the night"
And I said, "oh no sir, I must say you're wrong
I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say you're wrong"
Won't you listen to me

He told me, I've seen it all before
I've been there
I've seen my hopes and dreams a-lying on the ground
I've seen the sky, just begin to fall

He said, "all things pass, into the night"
And I said, "Oh no sir, I must say you're wrong
I must disagree, oh no sir, I must say you're wrong"
Won't you listen to me?

Later that evening, Tasha bundled the baby into her CocoMelon@ costume with mail-order toddler,toddler-specific thermal
top and bottom. When ready, the small family (and a stroller) left their suburban home at dusk; the temperature was a very
New York 45 degrees. These suburban blocks - particularly in NY, LA, DC, or Chicago - are pretty long, and it's a nice stroll
at a reasonable pace: they cover most of the homes on each side of the street before the baby began agitating for Reade for
Reade to carry her.
