Chapter Text

Lucifer knew he wasn’t supposed to be here. The notion that he didn’t belong here had been shoved down his throat for so much and so long, he knew it was wrong. Despite knowing it was wrong, in his mind, it just felt so right. It went against everything in his nature. Every muscle in his angelic body begged and pleaded with him to turn back. Every part of him. Every part except for his heart.

It pounded in his chest as he stepped through the garden. He could hear the grass rustle and crunch as he made his way.

As an angel, he knew he was meant to be up in the clouds. Spending his life flying through the heavens. Soaring higher than the sun. Playing songs up in the clouds. Living a good life.

But he didn’t want to.

A part of him was ashamed to admit it—but he hated it up there. He always felt like a misfit. No matter what he tried to do, it wasn’t enough. It was never enough.

He could hear Sera’s words constantly scolding and degrading him.

You’re too loud, Lucifer. You fall out of line too much, Lucifer. You need to quiet down, Lucifer

He knew, as his older sister, she did it from a place of love and a want to protect him. But it didn’t make her words hurt any less. Each shaming word that came from her mouth felt like a spear piercing his skin.

Here, he wasn’t a misfit. He wasn’t a fuck up. He just…existed.

That was all he really wanted to do. Just be.

Besides, Earth had things that the heavens above did not.

Heaven had golden trees and perfect animals, nothing wrong or misplaced. Down here, it was different.

Better. Lucifer almost thought.

Things were imperfect. There were things out of place. That’s what made them beautiful. It’s imperfections.

Imperfections were what made things beautiful. It made this feel real and raw. The imperfections were the beauty.

Lucifer’s idea of paradise was a little different than everyone else’s.

Still, the angel knew he shouldn’t stick around down here too terribly wrong. It would be bad.

He could hear Sera’s voice demeaning words cutting into him like the blade of a spear.

You shouldn’t be here, Lucifer. It’s not good for you to be down here. You should be up here with your kind.

He tried to shake her voice from his head. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

Just for a while he wanted to be free. Even if it just was for a few hours.

He supposed Heaven wasn’t all that bad. How could paradise be awful?

He was his father’s favorite after all. As much of a misfit as he was, he still had his father’s unconditional love.

That made him feel better. He thought about his father’s eyes looking at him.

They were filled with love. A comforting kind of love that made him think—deep down—that he wasn’t such a misfit after all.

A strong breeze blew through the garden. The trees shook in the wind. Branches collided into one another. A few leaves that were on the ground twirls and danced around in circles.

The breeze blew cold air through his white robe, making the loose fabric shake slightly. Lucifer felt his hat rise on top of his head almost picking up. He grabbed either side of the brim with his gloved hands and pulled it back down on top of his blonde hair.

The breeze grew stronger. Lucifer’s white hat with a blue ribbon to match his eyes around it got picked up by the wind.

“Hey!” He called to his hat, as if his voice would magically stop it in its tracks.

The hat twirled in the air and began drifting quicker than Lucifer could run and higher than he could reach.

He chased after the hat, jumping and reaching his hand out as it flew just out of his grasp.

He must’ve been chasing it for what felt like an eternity when he flapped his long white wings boosting him upwards. He managed to grab the brim of the hat and pull it towards him. The breeze began to die down as Lucifer lowered himself back to the ground and placed the hat on top of his head. He twisted it and pulled it down a bit more to make sure it would stay in place.

Once the angel got his bearings, he looked all around him, realizing he had not been to this part of the garden before. He glanced around trying to spot some familiarity but there was no use in it.

He was lost.

This part of the garden was not a place he had ever seen before. There were more leaves and trees closer together. The faint smell of water and, oddly enough, feathers filled the air.

It comforted him.

He began humming a soft tune—one that he had played up in heaven. He enjoyed playing the fiddle, alongside his brothers and sisters who played the harp and the lyre.

He turned the corner and placed his hand on a tree. He could feel the rough bark on it through his gloves. Every twist and splinter on it.

He looked at the sky above him. The bright sun was setting—lowering itself below the clouds. He could see a faint outline of the moon and maybe a few stars. He preferred the stars that you could see in the morning more.

The sun setting meant he needed to be returning soon but he couldn’t find his way around this part of the garden.

“This place is like a maze.” He mumbled to himself in a low voice. “How do I-”

Before the next few words escaped his lips something caught his eye.

The human.

He saw her sitting on a large rock just in front of the lake. Her long, blonde hair, the color of the setting sun, swayed in the breeze that flew.

Lucifer caught a glimpse of her face. She was the most beautiful being the angel had ever laid his eyes on. He felt his heart jump a little in his chest.

He looked up at the setting sun once more and realized his time was running out.

The human turned her head slightly. Lucifer spun and hid himself behind the large tree he had been resting his hand on.

“If she sees me, Sera’s gonna-”

Suddenly, the angel heard soft mumbling. Lucifer slowly peeked his head around the tree. He realized the human was talking. He looked to see if there was another creature. Then he realized she was talking to herself.

“God…” She said, her voice as soft and delicate as the breeze that had brought him to her.

He heard her voice catch.

“I think…I think there’s something wrong with me.”

Something wrong with her? What could possibly be wrong with such a beautiful and wonderful creature as herself?

He listened more.

“I…I don’t want to be Adam’s wife. I don’t want to be tied down to that man.” She admitted, her hands clasped together and her eyes fixed towards the sky. “I want to be my own person, outside of him.”

Who was Adam? Lucifer asked himself. The name rang a bell, but he couldn’t figure out who it was.

“So you’re listening,” The human prayed, her voice cracking on the last word. “Please…please send me an angel.”

An angel.

It took every fiber in his soul and body to not move towards her. To comfort her. To let her know that she wasn’t alone. That there was an angel for her.

Then he looked up towards the sky again. The sun had lowered even more.

Lucifer panicked looking around for an exit. Up in the sky, just beyond the clouds, he was the gates to heaven.

He kicked off the ground and flapped his wings pushing towards the sky.

He looked back down once more, catching a glimpse of the human down below.

He would be back.

The following day, Lucifer ventured his way into the garden once more. He tried retracing his footsteps, which took him a long time considering he didn’t look where he was going his first journey through here. He realized that a lot of trees and bushes and plants looked very similar to one another— which wasn’t helpful considering he was terrible with directions.

Eventually, after an hour or so of walking around, he spotted the same tree he had hid behind the previous day. He glanced up to it looking up to see various fruits above. One stood out in particular. It was a bright, red apple that was almost calling his name. He gazed up at sure not sure why he wanted to pick it out of the tree and take a bite out of it. He shook his head and took a deep breath.

He peeked his head around the corner to see what he could find. He pushed the brim of his hat out of his face with the palm for his hand. He stuck his neck out to get a better look of what was in front of him.

The human.

She sat on the same rock as before, her legs crossed over the edge of the rock. Her hair was draped over her left shoulder and a small blue flower in her hair kept a few strands out of her face. She held a small animal in her hand. It was a light yellow color and it was fuzzy. It must’ve been a baby that would one day grow bigger. It made a small sound.

“Quack.”

The animal’s beak snapped shut. The human smiled. “Aren’t you the absolute cutest thing?” She asked, stroking the top of its fuzzy head. She set the tiny animal down on the ground. She waved her hand slowly as it waddled away from her and back into the clear pond. The human sighed.

She looked just as beautiful as he remembered.

He thought back to the prayer he had heard her muttering last night.

“Please send me an angel.”

An angel.

Maybe he was the angel that she had prayed and wished for that evening prior.

Maybe.

Lucifer began to take a step forward when he felt something telling him to stop. He caught his breath.

Walking towards her felt wrong but at the same time, just felt so right.

‘If someone finds out about this.’ He thought to himself. He didn’t want to become more of a misfit and an outcast than he already was up in the pearly gates of heaven. But he also wanted to talk to the human, comfort her, let her know that there wasn’t a single thing wrong with her.

The more he looked at the human, the more he was sure about his decision.

He slowly stepped towards her, being extremely careful not to step on any twigs or anything that could make a sound that would alarm the human.

He was finally a few feet away from her. He was so close he could reach out and touch her skin if he wanted to.

He took a deep breath.

“Excuse me.”

The human turned around scared, her eyes full of shock.

“Who- who are you?” She questioned, looking the angel up and down, sizing him up and trying to figure out who he was.

He took a small step away from her.

‘Maybe this was a bad idea.’ He thought.

“Don’t be afraid.” He told her, holding his hands out so his palm would face her. “I’m awfully sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“Who…who are you?” She asked again, her expression softening a bit, her eyes looking less full of fear and more of curiosity.

“I’m…” He began, talking his half off of his head and holding it over his chest, “I think…I’m the angel you have wished for.”

The human’s eyes widened and her expression changed. “The angel?”

Lucifer nodded. He placed his hat back on top of his head. He glanced over to an empty spot on the rock she was sitting on. He looked up at her again—their eyes meeting and the whole world going silent for a moment. “May I?” He asked her at last.

She broke eye contact with him. She looked down at the empty spot beside her. “Oh, yes of course!” She scoffed a few inches away, giving him more room.

Lucifer climbed on top of the rock. He looked up at the human once more.

She was much taller than him by a long shot, but that didn’t intimidate Lucifer at all. Her skin was pale and it looked soft to the touch. He studied every curve on her body. Her hips, her arms, her legs, her stomach, her chest, her neck, and her face. Her face looked kind and welcoming. He could also see there were pieces of pain and discomfort on her alluring face as well. A few strands of her soft blonde hair fell into her face. A few pieces covered her magnetic purple eyes. Lucifer could feel himself getting lost in them. He cleared his throat.

“What’s your name?” He asked her, still studying every bit of her face.

“Lilith.” She told him. “That’s what Adam has named me. It means ‘night.’”

Lucifer thought for a minute of the night sky. The dark purple of the sky that used to be a light blue during the day. The pale moon that shines bright over the earth. The bright yellow stars that twinkle and gleam. He smiled slightly.

He supposed night was a fitting name for her.

She leaned closer to him. She studied him the way he had studied her. Her eyes tracing over every part of him. Her eyes finally reached his face and then their eyes locked once more. Her head tilted slightly, causing a few pieces of her blonde hair to fall off of her shoulder and down her back or over her chest.

“You said that you are an angel?” Lilith asked him, looking at all of the things that made the two different from one another.

“Yes.” He told her. “My name’s Lucifer.”

Lucifer looked at her, finding all of the things they had in common. Their pale skin or their blonde hair. He felt his heart skip a little once again.

“Lucifer.” She repeated, the name sounding sweet on her tongue. “What does that mean?”

Lucifer thought for a minute. He wasn’t sure what his name meant. He had never really thought about it or questioned it before. He had just accepted it as his own. It was bestowed on him when he was created by God.

It didn’t matter to him much. His name didn’t mean much to him anyways. He was many things outside of his name. An angel. A son. A fiddle player. A misfit.

He looked at Lilith closer. He supposed it was different for her. Her name had to mean something. It was the only identity she really had.

“I’m not sure what my name means.” He finally told her.

Her gaze averted. “Oh.” She said, sounding a bit disappointed. She tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear.

Lucifer felt sorry for disappointing her. He placed his hand over top of hers. Her skin felt soft and warm. She flinched a little when she felt his gloved hand over her hand.

The two locked eyes once more. He spoke again. “I heard you the other night.”

“You did?” She asked, trying to recall anything and everything she might have said the previous evening.

He nodded, his hat slightly slipping down to his forehead. He pushed it back to its original position with his free hand’s palm. “I heard what you said…about thinking…thinking there was something wrong with you.”

“Oh.” Lilith said, her voice faltering. She looked down again at the ground, watching as a few pieces of grass swayed in the wind.

Lucifer took his hand off of hers and placed the palm of it underneath her jaw. He moved it slightly so her face was facing his.

“There isn’t.” He told her. Their eyes met again. This time they held eye contact for longer. They looked at each other like they had some sort of silent understanding of one another. Despite the fact that they had just met a few moments ago, they understood each other. They realized they were the same.

“How can you be sure?” She asked him, neither of their eyes moving in the slightest.

“Because…” He said, removing his hand from underneath her jaw and back over the hand she was using to prop herself up with. “No one as perfect as you could have something wrong with them.”

The pale skin on her cheeks flushed a deep pink. Her lips slowly turned upwards.

Her smile was probably the most beautiful thing about her, according to Lilith.

“You have a beautiful smile.” He complimented her. Her cheeks turned an even darker pink, almost looking red.

“Thank you.” She said, she placed her other hand over top of his arm. “Thank you for coming down here, I appreciate it more than you know.”

Lucifer smiled. He could feel his cheeks becoming warm as the blood rushed into them.

“Of course.” He replied. “It was no trouble for someone as alluring as you are, Lilith.”

Her name tasted sweet on his tongue. He kept repeating her name over and over in his head. It was the most beautiful word he had ever heard.

A few strands of Lilith’s hair blew into her face. She slowly raised her hand to move them but Lucifer beat her to it. He guided the pieces out of her face with his fingers and tucked them behind her ear. His hand traced below her ear lobe and he gently traced her jawline.

He wished he could stay like this forever.

Out of the corner of his eye, the sun began slipping slowly from above the clouds. The light from it slowly began to light up the water in the pond in front of him. He quickly sat up straight.

“I have to leave.” He told her, scooting himself off of the rock.

“What?” She said, looking upset. “Why?”

He nodded towards the setting sun into the distance. “The sun is setting, I must go home.”

“But-” Her mouth moved more as if she was trying to get words out but all that came out was a small sound.

He felt bad. He picked her hands up and held them in his. “I have to leave now.” He told her, grasping her hands tightly, not wanting to leave. “But I’ll be back.”

“You will?” She asked, her beautiful eyes full of hope.

“Yes.” He nodded. “I promise.”

She raised an eyebrow. “You…promise?” She asked, as if she did not know the meaning of the word.

“Promise.” He repeated. “It’s a vow, an oath, a pledge, a commitment that I will be back.”

She blinked. “When?” She asked, tilting her head slightly. “When will you be back?”

He glanced back out at the horizon, watching the sunset at what seemed to be descending quicker and quicker.

“Tomorrow.” He told her. “I will be back tomorrow, I promise.”

She nodded, her grip loosening on his gloved hands.

A twig snapped in the distance. “Lilith!” A man’s voice called. The voice sounded rough and assertive.

Lililth gasped softly. “Go.” She instructed him.

He brought her hands up to his mouth and he gently kissed her knuckles. Both of their hands dropped away from the others. Lilith glanced behind her. Lucifer kicked off of the ground and flapped his wings. He flew higher and higher until he reached the gates of heaven. He glanced down once at Lilith.

He silently told himself once more, he’d be back.

Chapter Text

The bright light of heaven shone through Lucifer’s window and warmed up his room early in the morning.

He sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes and still half asleep. He peered out his window. A few stars still glimmered up in the sky. He looked at one star that he saw every morning. It was tiny but it still shined bright. It twinkled and gleamed. It was his morning star.

Lucifer rubbed his face with the palm of his hand. He sighed. He had dreamed about Lilith last night. He dreamt of her soothing voice, her long flowing hair, and her twinkling purple eyes that he wanted to get lost in forever. He cursed himself. He had done the one thing he had promised himself not to do.

Fall in love with the human.

He slid off of his bed and dressed himself in his long flowing white robe. He slipped his black gloves back and threw on his boots. He picked up his hat and placed it on top of his head.

He opened the door from his room and walked out and into the golden paved streets of Heaven.

As Lucifer walked through the streets, he listened to the sound of cherubs flying and laughing above him. He felt the warmth of the sun on his face. He looked at all of the buildings lining the streets. They were all tall and golden and didn’t have one piece of chipping paint or a crack in the wall. Everything was perfect.

But everything was the same.

Nothing differed or varied; it was just copy and pasted over and over again as far as his eye could see.

Lucifer sighed. He felt wrong for not absolutely loving everything about it up here. Maybe there was something wrong with him.

“Lucifer.”

A voice behind him called his name. He jumped a little. He didn’t have to turn around to know who’s voice that was. The voice had called his name many times. He turned around.

“Hey Sera!” He greeted, looking up at his older sister's face. Her blue eyes looked down at his. Her expression was hard, like she had bad news to deliver.

“Where were you yesterday evening?” She asked the question like she already knew the answer to it.

“Oh you know…” He answered, looking everywhere but her eyes. “Just…out and about.”

“Out and about?” Sera questioned, her voice sounding more intimidating.

Lucifer nodded, trying to look for a way out of this conversation. Sera held her arm out to block his path.

“Out and about where?” She asked, raising an eyebrow sternly.

Lucifer went silent for a moment. “Oh uh the garden.”

“The garden?” Sera asked, but it wasn’t really a question. “Of Eden?”

He opened his mouth again to say something, then closed it and nodded. Sera pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. “Lucifer.”

“I know you said I’m not supposed to be down there but,” He tried to find the words to describe my he kept returning without bringing Lilith’s name into his mouth. “There’s just something about it down there…”

Sera glanced away from him for a minute and mumbled something to herself. She looked back to him and looked at him with pity. “Lucifer, I know you love it down there but you need to be careful. We can’t let one of the humans down there see you.”

Lucifer could feel his heart beating out of his chest. He nodded. “Right, of course, Sera.”

She smiled slightly. She bent down to Lucifer’s height and placed her hands on his shoulders. “I'm just trying to keep you safe.” She told him, her eyes filled with concern. “I just don’t want something bad to happen.”

He swallowed hard. He felt bad lying to his sister. His lips turned into a smile. “Yeah don’t worry, Sera, I’ll make sure to be careful. I won’t let the humans see me.” He told her, lying through his teeth.

Sera smiled bigger. “Good.” She held onto his shoulder for a moment longer. He looked at her as if she had a gut feeling something bad was going to happen to him and she wouldn’t be able to stop it. She patted his shoulder. “Alright, run along now.” She said, turning around and flying to a higher part of heaven.

Lucifer sighed. He knew he shouldn’t be going down to the garden but his heart knew he wanted to. He had made a promise to the human and he intended to fulfill it, even if it meant going against Sera’s wishes. He walked to the golden gates of Heaven, making sure no one was following him or could see where he was going. He looked down where he could see a small blob of the Garden of Eden below him.

He flapped his wings and flew down to the garden.

Lucifer found this way easier this time around. He came to the same tree that he came to every time he visited her. He looked towards the pond.

There Lilith sat, just ten feet away. She sat on the same rock she always did. Her hair was parted on the back of her scalp and fell on either side of her shoulders almost evenly, leaving her whole back exposed. She sat straight up, using both of her hands to prop herself up. Her eyes were fixed to the sky above her. They darted from one cloud to another. As if she was trying to spot something up above.

Lucifer took a few steps towards her. He took a deep breath.

Should I be doing this?’ He asked himself. ‘Maybe Sera was right.’

He looked at the human longingly. He had made a promise to her. And he remembered the look on Lilith’s face when he had shown up. He remembered how her whole demeanor changed and she lit up. He convinced himself he had to keep his promise. If not for himself, for her. He moved forward.

“Lilith.”

Her head whipped around, strands of her hair fell onto her back, leaving part of her chest exposed. “You came!” She exclaimed, sounding both relieved and surprised.

He smiled. “Of course, I made a promise, didn’t I?”

Her eyes lit up and a smile grew over her face. She looked down at the rock below her and slid over. She patted the empty spot next to her with the palm of her hand. “Please, sit.”

Lucifer climbed up on the rock and sat next to her.

She looked even more beautiful than he had remembered her.

They stared into each other's eyes.

“Thank you.” She said, tears almost swelling in her eyes. She blinked hard and a few tears fell from her purple eyes down to her cheeks and slid down, falling off her jaw and on to her leg. “For coming back.”

Lucifer smiled, the red circle sitting on his cheeks lifting. He looked into her kind eyes with such admiration. “You’re welcome.” He told her.

The wind blew in the trees making the branches shake and rattle as they knocked up against one another. The leaves shook and there were ripples in the water in the pond in front of them.

The cool blowing wind made the clouds that Lilith had been gazing at before start to move quicker to the left. As the wind blew, Lilith’s body shook as she shivered. Tiny goosebumps appeared on her skin, causing the blonde hair on her arms and legs to stand straight up like soldiers at attention. She crossed her arms over each other, running the palms of her hands up and down her arms in an attempt to warm herself.

“I hate this feeling.” She admitted, putting her thighs up to her torso and knees up to her chin in an effort to keep herself warm. She shifted her head, looking into the horizon in front of her.

“Well,” Lucifer began, looking the woman up and down examining her. “Why aren’t you wearing any clothes? That might help you.” He asked her.

Lilith’s head turned back to face the angel. She raised an eyebrow and cocked her head to the side. “Clothes?” She asked, as if that was her first time hearing and saying the word. It was a foreign word to her.

“Yes, clothes.” Lucifer repeated back to her. For the first time, he realized that she was naked. Her whole body was exposed except for her hair covering parts of her. He realized she might not even know what clothes are.

Lucifer held his arm out, letting the sleeve of the robe he was wearing dangle. He held out the palm of his other hand below it to show it off. “These are clothes.”

She moved her head closer to Lucifer’s arm, examining it with her eyes. She nodded ever so slightly. “Oh—clothes.”

“More specifically a robe.” He said, correcting himself. He looked at her realizing he may have confused her a bit.

She simply nodded once more. “A robe.”

“Yes.” He said, setting his arm down by Lilith’s side again. “A robe.” He repeated.

She looked up to the top of his head. She stared at his hat. “Are uh these clothes too?” She asked, reaching her hand out to touch it.

Lucifer looked up at the top of his. “Um no not really.” He informed her. He plucked his hat off of the top of his head. He set it down on his lap. “It’s called a hat.”

“A hat.” She said, not taking her eyes off of the hat the whole time.

Lucifer picked it off of his lap and held it out in front of her. “Would you like to try it on?” He asked her.

She plucked the hat out of his hand. She held it by the brim by either side of the brim. She slowly placed it on top of her head. Instead of sitting like it normally did on Lucifer’s head. It slipped down and didn’t stop until the inside crown of the hat hit the top of her hair, making a faint thunk sound.

Lucifer couldn’t help but laugh. After a moment, Lilith began to laugh with him.

“I don’t think it quite fits you.” He told her, laughing into the palm of his hand.

Lilith laughed a little more. “Yes.” She agreed, taking the hat off of her head and handing it back to him. “I think you have a very big head.” She informed him.

He laughed a little more. “I do, I do.” He agreed.

Lilith’s bright smile faded. She folded her hands in her lap and looked down at them. She sighed.

“I do not have any clothes.” She told him very matter of fact. “I have no use for them.”

“Well,” Lucifer said with a smile, examining her again. “It would probably keep you a bit warmer.”

Lilith shot him a look. Then she looked away into the distance. “I suppose you’re right.” She admitted, her eyes fixed on the lake in front of them. “But we don’t have clothes down here.”

Lucifer looked at her, moving his head to try and catch her eye. “How about I bring you some from heaven next visit?” He asked.

Her head perked up and she looked at the angel. “You would do that for me?” She asked him, her eyes looking like a doe’s.

He smiled. “Of course I would.” He rested his hand on her shoulder. “Anything for you.”

She smiled, wider than he had ever seen her smile before. Her smile was the most beautiful thing in this garden. She put her hand over top of his. Her hand felt warm like a cozy fire over Lucifer’s. “Thank you.” She told him.

He nodded. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a small yellow animal. Lilith must have also spotted it because they two turned their heads in unison towards the creature.

The creature’s body was much bigger than its legs. It waddled from behind a rock towards them. It waddled on until it reached Lilith’s leg. It stopped and looked up at the two of them. They both peered over the edge of the rock to see the animal. The animal's black, beady eyes stared up at them and opened its mouth.

Quack.

Lilith reached down to pick it up. The animal was so small it fit in the palm of her two hands. Lucifer realized this was the same animal that he had seen her with the first time they had met. She looked at the animal with such love. “Hello little one.” She greeted it, petting the top of its small head.

Lucifer smiled at it. He reached his hand out and softly stroked the top of its fuzzy head. “It’s so small.”

She nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it is.” She softly ran two fingers along the animal’s back, “It must be just a baby.”

Lucifer stopped petting the animal for a minute. He realized he didn’t know what kind of animal it was. “A baby what?” He asked Lilith, hoping she would have an answer.

She opened her mouth and then shut it quickly. “I’m…not sure.” She looked at the animal curiously. “Adam hasn’t named this one yet.”

He looked up at Lilith. “Does Adam get to name everything?” He asked.

She sighed. She placed the baby animal down on her lap. The small animal nuzzled on one of her thighs. “He does.” She admitted.

“Why?” He questioned.

“Because he is the man.” She said, looking into the lake. Her expression turned sad. “Because he gets to decide everything, he even named me. I am just his wife.”

Lucifer sighed. He reached down and picked up the animal. He held it in his gloved hands.

Quack.

“Well, what would you like to name the animal?” Lucifer asked, holding the animal up higher to her height.

Lilith’s eyes widened. She looked at the animal, giving her decision great thought. “A duck.” She said at last.

“A duck.” Lucifer repeated. “I think that.”

She nodded. “But I don’t think this is quite a duck yet.”

“You don’t?” Lucifer asked, passing along the not-quite-a-duck to her hands.

She shook her head. “No, this is too small to be a duck yet, it’s going to grow bigger one day.” She paused for a minute and then smiled. “It’s a duckling!”

“A duckling!” Lucifer repeated, smiling alongside her. “That’s adorable!”

Lilith giggled. Her laughter was even more beautiful than she was. Lucifer looked at her longingly. He wanted to stay with her forever. He wanted this moment to last an eternity. He never wanted to leave her side and just look into her eyes for centuries.

Lilith set the duckling down on the ground. The duckling quacked once more and then waddled into the pond. It swam for a long time until it was out of view of the human and the angel.

“Lucifer.” Lilith said, looking at him.

“Yes?” He asked.

She smiled sheepishly. The wind blew the few strands of her hanging around her cheeks out of her face. She folded her hands in her lap. “I just wanted to thank you again, for coming back.” Lucifer smiled. “Of course, Lilith.” He reached out and clasped his hand with hers. “I love spending time with you down here.”

Blood rushed into Lilith's cheeks and her dark eyes twinkled. “I love spending time with you too.” She squeezed his hand tightly, slowly loosening her grip. She sighed. “I wish it was you down here with me instead of Adam.” She admitted.

“Why is that?” He asked, rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb.

She shrugged and a few tears swelled in her eyes. “He feels so overbearing. He makes all my decisions. He’s…constantly controlling me.” He put her knees up to her chin and looked away. “I want my own fate.” She wrapped her arms around herself and sniffed.

Lucifer put his arm around her. She wiped her tears off of her cheeks with her arm. “I’m so sorry, Lilith.” She leaned into his arms. She placed her head on his shoulders, which looked a bit awkward considering she was a good six inches or so taller than him, but neither one of them really minded.

The two sat like that for a long time. They watched the clouds move along the sky, the fishes swim in the pond, the slight breeze make the trees rattle and shake, and the sun slowly lowered down the sky.

Lucifer looked up at Lilith. He hated to leave her, especially after she had confided in him earlier. He sat up and removed his arm from around Lilith. She looked at him confused. He tilted his hat on his head. “Well, the sun is setting,” He told her. “I should probably be off-”

“No!” Before he could finish his sentence, she threw herself into his arms. She wrapped her arms around him and squeezed him tightly. “Please don’t leave.”

Lucifer could feel her tears hitting his shoulder. He slowly wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her in slowly. “I’m sorry.” He apologized, wishing he didn’t have let go of her. “I have to…I have to go.”

Lilith hugged him a little tighter and held him for a moment. She eventually pulled away. The two stared at each other for a moment. She wiped her tears and looked away.

“I’ll be back soon.” He held her hands again. “I promise.”

She sniffed back one last sob. “I’ll miss you.” She confessed to him.

“I’ll see you soon.” He told her.

Lilith held his face in her hands. She leaned in and kissed him. After a moment they both pulled away. They kissed again. He lifted her hand up to his mouth and kissed the back of her hand. “Good bye for now, Lilith.”

She smiled. “Good bye, Lucifer.”

Lucifer kicked off the ground and flapped his wings. He flew towards heaven’s gate, looking back at the woman that he had fallen in love with below.

Chapter Text

Lucifer sat on the edge of his bed with his head in his hands. It was late at night. He wasn’t sure exactly how late it was, but he knew he should have been asleep instead of having his mind set on Lilith.

He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed. He had gone to sleep with only Lilith on his mind that night and he dreamt about her in his sleep. He had dreamt about the two of them running away together. They created their own garden to live without rules or anyone to bother or disturb them. It would just be the two of them alone, no Adam to boss Lilith around and no Sera to scold Lucifer. It was their perfect utopia.

As perfect as it was, Lucifer knew, deep down, it would never be real. He could not fall in love with a human. He wasn’t supposed to be talking to her let alone being in love with her.

He groaned. He layed back in his bed, his head hitting his soft pillow. He stared at his ceiling with his hands folded over his stomach. He tried closing his eyes and thinking of something else, anything else besides the human. He couldn’t think of anything else. Everytime he closed his eyes, he saw her face. Her dark violet eyes, her glowy pale skin, and her flowing blonde hair. Even if he could get the image of her out of his head, her laugh and her soft and soothing voice still echoed through his ears. He tried staring out his window once or twice, but the night sky reminded him so much of her. Her name even meant night.

Lucifer wasn’t sure how long he had spent staring at his ceiling, not sleeping until he heard a knock on his door. He sat up on his bed and groaned. “Just a moment.” He called out to whoever was on the other side of the door. He quickly slipped his robe on and pulled his gloves onto his hands. He pulled his boots on a zipped them up quickly. He ran his fingers through his hair once or twice to get rid of his bed head. He opened the door to see his good friend, Asmodeus standing on the other side.

Asmodeus was a lower ranking angel than Lucifer, but he still stood taller and was much stronger than him. Lucifer smiled when he saw his face. “Hey Ozz, how’s it going?”

“Hey Luci,” Asmodeus greeted, slightly shrinking himself to be closer to Lucifer’s height. “The seraphims had something to show and they wanted everyone to be there.”

“What is it?” Lucifer asked, grabbing the top of his hat and placing it on top of his head.

Ozzie shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine.” He motioned for Lucifer. “Come one, you know how the seraphims are when someone’s late.”

Lucifer rolled his eyes. “Oh believe me, I know.” Lucifer walked out of his room and closed the door behind him.

After a few minutes of walking around the streets of Heaven, Asmodeus looked down at Lucifer concerned. “You okay, man? You look rough.”

Lucifer straightened up, trying to look a bit better. “Oh yeah, I just…didn’t sleep well.” He admitted, which wasn’t a lie, just not the whole entire truth.

“Something keeping you up?” He questioned him.

Lucifer shrugged. Asmodeus stopped them both and pulled Lucifer to the side. “Alright, tell me what’s up, Luci, you’re not your usual self.” Ozzie kneeled down to his height, which was a bit demeaning. He put his hands on either one of Lucifer’s shoulders. “What’s going on, man.”

Lucifer sighed. No one should know about him and Lilith but someone deserved to know, and Ozzie was his close friend. “Well.” He looked up towards the sky and then back at Asmodeus. “You know the humans down in the Garden of Eden.”

Ozzie nodded, not looking like he knew where this story was going. “Uh well,” Lucifer glanced away, trying not to look him in the eye. “I went down to the Garden of Eden…”

Asmodeus gasped. “Did one of the humans see you?” He asked, gripped Lucifer’s shoulders a bit tighter.

Lucifer winced a bit at Ozzie’s touch. “Well, yes, the woman did and…”

“And…what?” He asked.

“We might have…” Lucifer took a deep breath. “…talked, for a bit.”

Ozzie’s eyes widened and he looked around him. No one was paying them any attention. “You talked to the human woman?” He whispered in a loud tone.

Lucifer nodded. “And now I might be…” He winced. “…in love with her.”

“In love with her!” Asmodeus shouted. Causing a few heads to turn, people gave them a look and then turned away. Lucifer clapped his hand over Ozzie’s mouth. “Keep your voice down, you big rooster.”

Asmodeus pulled his hand away from his mouth. “Sorry, sorry, but you’ve fallen in love with her.”

Lucifer nodded, a bit ashamed of himself. Ozzie stood up and looked around him. “Well, the heart wants what the heart wants, Luci.” He said, nodding slightly. “But you cannot let anyone else know about this, especially the seraphims.”

Lucifer nodded, “I know, I know.” He grabbed Ozzie’s arm and pulled him back onto the sidewalk so they could continue their journey. “Trust me I don’t want anyone to find out, especially since she’s married.”

“Does her husband know about this?” He asked him. “Allan or something like that.”

“Adam.” Lucifer corrected. “And no, he doesn’t know about our meetings, I’ve never even seen him.”

“Wait.” Ozzie stopped him in his tracks. “Meetings? Plural?”

“Yes,” Lucifer confirmed, dragging Ozzie along with him. “We’ve met on two separate occasions, and I promise her I’d be back.”

“Look, man, I want you to be happy and be in love with someone. And if she makes you happy, that’s great.” Asmodeus said, continuing to walk. “But you know it will never be.”

Lucifer nodded. Of course he knew, he knew with everything in his heart that they could never be together. No matter how many stars he wished on, he knew it would never come to fruition. “Yeah, yeah I know, Ozzie.”

“Just try to keep your mind off her for now.” He told him. “Just be excited about what the seraphims wanna show us.”

“Right.” Lucifer said, trying to shake the image of Lilith that had been in his brain since the moment they met out of his head. He couldn’t. “Right.”

The two arrived at the Seraphim’s palace just in the nick of time.

The palace was built with white marble walls. The floor was rose gold marble. The roof was at least 200 feet high and golden. Beautiful chandeliers hung from the ceilings with candles that never seemed to burn out. Cherubs sat in the entrance as you walked in and played the harp and the violin with a chalice filled with coins in them.

Lucifer took a coin out of his robe pocket and placed it in the harp playing Cherub’s chalice. The cherub nodded in appreciation and continued playing.

As Lucifer and Asmodeus walked, the heels of their boots clicked on the marble floor. Other angels walked around the palace, talking to one another and listening to the cherubs play their hymns.

The two walked up a few flights of stairs which were floating. The railings beside them were solid gold and radiated light.

On the third floor, a grand, big archway was in the middle of a wall, leading to another room. A golden plaque at least 20 feet long hung over it with the writing “Angelic Council Room” on it.

Asmodeus and Lucifer walked in and went their separate ways. Asmodeus walked to a section of the room with fourteen seats that almost looked like a heavenly juror box. He sat down next to an angel named Beelzebub and in front of another named Mammon. Ozzie and Beelzebub began talking almost immediately.

Lucifer walked to the opposite side of the room up two flights of stairs. He joined the other Cherubims in another box that looked like a holy juror box. He sat next to his archangel brother, Micheal.

It was easy to tell that Micheal and Lucifer were brothers. They both had blonde hair, though Micheal’s was a bit longer. They had the same face, the same red circles around their cheeks, and the same blue eyes. Micheal stood taller than Lucifer, as most people did, and had broader shoulders and appeared stronger than his brother.

Lucifer smiled. “How’s my favorite brother doing?” He asked, glancing up at him.

Micheal took his hat off and placed it on his lap. He didn’t look at Lucifer. “I don’t know.” He answered, trying to hold back a grin. “Maybe you should ask Gabriel.”

Lucifer rolled his eyes at his older brother. “Ha ha, you’re hilarious,” He teased. “What is that, your sixth time telling that joke this month?”

“Good to see you, Luci.” Micheal smiled and clapped his brother on the back. “Have you gotten shorter since the last time we’ve spoken?”

Lucifer scoffed. “I’m not sure,” He replied. “Have your wings gotten any more mangier?”

Micheal playfully smacked the top of Lucifer’s hat, causing it to tilt to its side a bit. The two brothers laughed as Lucifer straightened his hat back on his head.

The room fell silent out of respect as more high ranking angels walked into the room. Every angel in heaven was in the room except for Sera.

Lucifer glanced over the balcony trying to find his sister but there was no luck.

Finally, two angels sounded a trumpet on either side of the arch way entrance. Everyone’s eyes turned to the direction of the sound and sat up in their seats.

Sera walked through the archway, her long grey and purple hair was curled in ringlets down her back. Her wings were tucked behind her and her silver halo shined bright above her, almost looking like a tiara. She walked slowly holding something wrapped in golden cloth in her arms. Lucifer leaned up a little trying to see what she was holding. When the trumpets stopped sounding, everyone rose to their feet.

A few murmurs were heard throughout the room, mostly of everyone trying to figure out what Sera was holding.

Sera snapped her fingers. In the middle of the room, a crib formed from light. The crib was an egg shell white and laced with gold around this hem. The crib had an arched piece of maple wood on bottom on their side to allow for a baby to rock back and forth in it.

A baby.

Lucifer’s eyes widened when he realized what was in Sera’s hand. Micheal must’ve realized it too because he softly gasped and peered over the balcony. Other angels must’ve come to the realization as well because audible gasps and murmurs echoed throughout the council room.

Sera finally reached the crib in the middle of the room. She carefully sat the child down in the crib. The room fell so silent you could hear the baby’s small breaths as it slept.

Sera stood over the baby and smiled. She looked at the child like it was the most precious and beautiful being in all of creation. She looked up to the crowd to address them.

“Angels of Heaven.” She announced, holding her arms up to the angelic congregation. “I bring to you a child of God.”

Now every single angel in the room leaned forward trying to catch a glimpse of the child.

“The child was created by God out of light and pure joy.” Sera announced to the audience. “Her name will be Emily, meaning rival, she will be a rival to all evil.”

Normally the crowd would have erupted in cheers, but not wanting to wake the baby, everyone clapped lightly.

Slowly all of the angels came down from their seats to see the baby. Every angel lined up around this crib to hold the baby. Everyone waited patiently until it was their turn. Finally it was Lucifer’s turn.

He picked up Emily out of the crib and held her in his arms. He cradled her small head in the crook of his neck.

Emily had grey skin like her older sister’s. Her eyes were big and blue and full of hope. A few white wisps of hair sprouted from the top of her head. Her wings were small and barely peaked out of the blanket that was wrapped around her.

She looked up at Lucifer and cooed. She smiled up at him. He wiggled his index finger in front of her. She grasped onto it with her tiny baby hands. When she got a hold of it she giggled. Her laugh made Lucifer’s heart melt. Lucifer smiled.

“You’re gonna do great things one day, Em.” He told her. She cooed again. He set her back in her crib and walked out of line to get the next person a chance to see her.

He stood back in the corner of the room when he was approached by Asmodeus. He smiled up at him. “Hey Ozz-” “Lucifer…” Ozzie interrupted, looking extremely nervous. “We’ve got a bit of a problem.” Lucifer looked up, raising an eyebrow. “What’s going on?” Ozzie looked around nervously. “We should talk somewhere else.” He grabbed Lucifer’s arm and guided him out of the room.

Asmodeus pulled Lucifer out into the entrance of the palace, hoping no one would notice their absence. “Lucifer…” Ozzie began, still scanning the room to see who was in there. No one else besides the music-playing Cherubs were in the room and they were too busy playing some harmonic hymn.

“Ozz…” Lucifer said, crossing his arms. “What’s going on?” Asmodeus sighed. “Okay so I may or may not have told Beelzebub about you and Lilith’s little meetings.”

“You what?” Lucifer demanded, placing his hands on his hips.

Ozzie bit the inside of his cheek. “And Mammon may or may not have overheard it.”

Lucifer stamped his foot on the ground. “What?” He said through gritted teeth. “Why in heaven would you do that?” He demanded.

“I just meant to tell Bee because I knew she would keep her mouth shut and I didn’t think anyone else would overhear it.” He explained, he looked down. “I’m really sorry, man.”

Lucifer looked at him. He looked sincerely apologetic. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger and sighed. “It’s okay, Ozz, I know you didn’t mean any harm.”

Lucifer looked around the room to try and spot Mammon. He knew Mammon couldn’t keep a secret for long and he had to make sure it didn’t spread any quicker than it already had. Lucifer walked back into the Council Room. He spotted Mammon across the room talking to Belphegor. He could tell by the look on Mammon’s face that he was airing out all of Lucifer’s dirty laundry.

He marched straight up to the gossiper. “Hey Mammon.” Lucifer greeted, trying to appear as if everything was normal as Belphegor walked away.

Mammon smiled slyly. “Hey Luci-” “Can I talk to you for a minute in private.” He interrupted before Mammon could make a crude comment.

“I-” Before Mammon could finish his sentence, Lucifer grabbed his wrist and dragged him into the hallway.

“What are ya doing Luci?” Mammon questioned. “Do you need help planning your wedding with the little human broad?”

Lucifer gritted his teeth. “Look I don’t need this whole thing with me and the human getting out so how much will it take for you to keep your mouth shut?” He asked, crossing his arms over his chest and raising an eyebrow.

Mammon grinned. “How much money do you got in your pocket there?” He asked, eying the pocket on Lucifer’s robe.

Lucifer sighed and dug into his pocket. He pulled out six golden coins, worth about 65 dollars. He held it out in front of Mammon’s greedy eyes.

Mammon snatched the money out of Lucifer’s palm and shoved it into his own robe’s pocket. “Pleasure doing business with ya, Luci.”

Lucifer grumbled. “Yeah, sure.” Mammon shook the coins around in his pocket. “I only told Belphegor, Levithan, and Satan. Hope that’s alright with you.”

Lucifer rolled his blue eyes. He wasn’t worried about those three spilling his secrets. Belphegor was too tired to open her mouth 90% of the time. Leviathan liked knowing a secret no one else did because it meant she had something no one else did. Satan didn’t care enough to start spilling Lucifer’s secret. “Yeah, whatever, that’s fine, Mamm.”

Mammon grinned and strutted back into the Council Room. Lucifer sighed and made his way back over to Asmodeus.

“Well, good news is Mammon is probably gonna keep his mouth closed so long as the money’s in his pocket.” Lucifer informed him, pointing his thumb in Mammon’s direction.

“I’m really sorry, man.” Ozzie apologized once more.

Lucifer looked over his shoulder to the entrance way. He could see heaven’s gates. He remembered he had promised Lilith he would return. He looked back at Ozzie.

“It’s no big deal, Ozz.” He told him. “Plus, I know how you can make it up to me.”

Asmodeus raised an eyebrow. “And how’s that?”

Lucifer looked at the entrance to the council room and the Gates of Heaven. “Cover for me while I go down to Eden.”

Ozzie’s eyes widened. “You’re gonna go down there after your secret was almost reached?” He asked, then he crossed his arms and looked up and down. “You really love this girl don’t you?”

Lucifer smiled. “I promised her I’d be back, Ozz, even if it’s the last time I see her…” Lucifer looked at the Gates and then back at his friend. “I’ve got to see her one last time.”

His friend smiled. “I’ll cover for you man, you see your girl.” He told Lucifer.

Lucifer grinned and pushed his hat down farther down on his head. “Thank you, Ozz.”

He took off running towards the exit of the palace. Once he got out of the palace, he kicked off the ground and took off flying. He soared above the clouds until he spotted the Garden of Eden below. He soared downwards to see Lilith, possibly for the last time.

Chapter Text

Lucifer made his way down to the garden. He soared all over the garden until he saw the ever so familiar pond. He flapped his wings until he reached the pond where he and Lilith had met for the first time. If he closed his eyes, he could still imagine seeing her there for the first time. His heart fluttered in his chest. He couldn’t wait to see her again, potentially for the last time ever.

When he arrived, he looked around the pond area, searching for the human. She wasn’t there.

“Lilith!” He called out. There was no response. “Lilith!” He called out once more. Nothing.

His heart sank.

Has something happened to her? Did someone find out about her and Lucifer? Is she alright?

All of these questions raced through Lucifer’s head. He looked around every tree, every boulder, and every bush for her. She was nowhere. He slumped against the tree and held his head in his hands. He was giving up all hope when he heard a noise coming from a nearby forest. He stopped in his tracks and listened closely. He heard faint sobs in the distance.

“Lilith!” He called out again. There was a moment and then he heard her voice. “Lucifer?”

“Where are you?” He asked, entering the forest and pushing past branches. He didn’t hear a response. “Lilith?”

He walked for another minute or so into the forest. He spotted her sitting on top of a log. Her arms were hugging herself and tears stained her pale skin. Lucifer rushed to her side. “Lil- what’s wrong.”

Lilith choked back a sob. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and hiccuped. She raised her head up and looked at the angel. “Lucifer…” She said, her eyes widening.

She stood up and ran over to Lucifer. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight.

Lucifer had never seen Lilith while she was standing. She was so much taller than him. It only made her more beautiful to him. He wrapped his arms around her too. “Lilith-” He said, hugging her closer. He let go and put his hands on her arms. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?” He examined Lilith. There were no scratches or bruises or any visible injuries. There was nothing wrong with her, physically.

Lilith held her head down and more tears came from her eyes. Lucifer reached his hand up and wiped the tears that fell from her eyes to her cheeks. She smiled softly and cupped her hand over top of his hand, holding it on her cheek. “Is everything alright, Lilith?”

She shook her head, her smile fading. “Yesterday, after our conversation, I got into a fight with Adam.” She explained, not holding eye contact with the angel in front of her. “It got heated and I told him I would never love him and I didn’t want to be his wife.”

Lucifer nodded. She sighed. “I ran away to sleep for the night and when I arrived in the morning…” Lilith’s breath was shaky and so were her hands.

Lucifer reached out and held her other hand. “What happened this morning?” He asked.

She swallowed hard. “I came back this morning and…” She took a deep breath, like she was holding back tears. “There was a new woman.”

Lucifer raised an eyebrow in confusion. “A new woman?” He asked.

Lilith nodded. “Eve.” She replied. “And the worst part is she looks exactly like me.”

“Exactly like you?” He asked. He tried to imagine a carbon copy of Lilith. She nodded. “Yes, it's like looking at my reflection.” She told him.

He gently squeezed her hands. “Oh Lilith, I’m so sorry.” He said.

“And she does everything he asks, it’s like she doesn’t have a mind of her own.” She complained, her face sprouting a look of disgust. “She’s just a mindless bimbo walking around, following Adam, and agreeing with everything he says.”

“She sounds awful, Lilith.” He said, pulling her in for a hug. She wrapped her arms around him. Lucifer’s face landed right above his chest. Her skin was soft against his.

“She is!” Lilith agreed, scoffing and rolling her eyes. “It’s like Adam could tell her to jump off a cliff and she’d be like, ‘Whatever you say my wonderful, amazing, big and strong and manly husband.’ Ugh!” Lilith mocked her voice pitching hers all the way up.

“You’re worth a million of her put together.” He told her, looking up at her face. She smiled.

“I wish there was some way for her to get some intelligence up in that head of hers.” She confessed to him. “She’s as dumb as rock.”

Lucifer’s eyes widened and he gasped slightly. He remembered that when God created the Garden of Eden, he put trees in the garden full of fruit. Every fruit in the garden was available to the humans, except for food that came from one specific tree. The tree was called the ‘Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil’ and if a fruit from it was eaten, the eater would gain knowledge about the world around them and be able to see both good and evil of the world. And if Eve ate it, she would gain enough knowledge and common sense to realize that she didn’t need to follow Adam around and listen to him blindly.

He looked up at Lilith again. He saw the sad and hurt look on her face. There were still tear stains on her cheeks from her sobbing for who knows how long. He couldn’t stand seeing her in this state, especially knowing he had the power to make her feel better. He knew what he had to do.

“Lilith.” He said. She looked over at him. “I think I have a way for Eve to gain some common sense and independence from Adam.”

She raised an eyebrow. “And how’s that?” She asked.

He sighed. “It’s gonna be risky.” He said. She nodded. Lucifer told her his plan.

Lilith and Lucifer walked out of the garden hand in hand. They found the ‘Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.’ It was the same tree by the lake that Lucifer had hid behind when he saw Lilith for the first time.

He looked up into the leaves of the tree and found an apple. There was nothing special about the apple but he was drawn to it for some reason. He realized that this was the same apple he had seen before that he had been so drawn to. He knew this was the apple he had to feed to Eve.

Lucifer flapped his wings and reached for the apple. He grabbed it and flew back down to Lilith. She looked at the apple. Her eyes widened and sparkled as they looked at the fruit. “Whoa.” She mouthed, the words never actually leaving her lips. Lucifer nodded in agreement with her astonishment.

“You think Eve will take it?” She asked him, sounding a little anxious. Lucifer smiled. “Well you said she wasn’t very bright.” He recalled. “I suppose I just have to be a little convincing.” Lilith giggled.

“But she isn’t going to want to take the apple from some stranger, at least not right out of the gate.” She instructed him. Lucifer slightly nodded. “That’s true.” He thought for a moment. He looked around them. He glanced into the lake. He looked down to see a water serpent swimming through the water. “Maybe I need to be more approachable.” He told Lilith.

“Approachable?” She asked, turning towards him.

He nodded. “You said she isn’t going to just accept the apple from a random stranger she didn’t know.” He stated. “But what if I approached her as something she was familiar with, say, an animal.” He held his hand out in the direction of the lake. The serpent slithered its way through the water.

A smile broke across Lilith’s face. “I like the way you think, Lucifer.”

A blonde woman sat against a tree. Her long hair was draped over her shoulder and a few strands danced in the wind. A small fluffy animal sat in her lap. She stroked its soft white fur as she hummed something. She picked the animal up and placed it on the ground. It hopped away out of sight.

Lucifer had already turned into a serpent. A slithered towards Eve as Lilith waited out of her view behind a large rock. He slithered up the tree.

“Eve.” He whispered.

She jumped a bit. “Adam? Who said that?” Lucifer didn’t even have to turn around to know that Lilith was rolling her eyes at that comment.

Lucifer slithered into Eve’s view. “Eve.” He repeated to get her attention. She looked down at the pale white serpent with yellow eyes below her.

“Oh!” She exclaimed. “You can speak?” Lucifer flicked his tongue. “Of course.” Eve blinked and the serpent had changed into a human. Not quite human. There was something angelic about him.

Lucifer stood there in all his angelic glory. His six wings were hanging from his back with his long white robe and his glowing halo on top.

“How did you-” Eve questioned. She looked the angel up and down and immediately stood up backing herself against the tree. “What are you?”

Lucifer examined Eve. She did look almost exactly like Lilith. The two women looked as if they could almost be sisters. They shared the same dark eyes, long, blonde hair, and pale soft skin. Eve was shorter than Lilith, a noticeable amount. She was still taller than Lucifer but not by much. Eve also had a smaller frame than Lilith, her proportions were smaller and she wasn’t as intimidating as her.

“My name's Lucifer.” He introduced himself. “I’m an angel.” The girl’s eyes widened. “You’re…an angel?” She asked. He nodded.

“I thought angels lived up in heaven.” She pointed out.

“I don’t live here.” Lucifer corrected her. “I come down here…temporarily.”

“I see.” Eve understood, nodding. Her eyes were still darting around like she was looking for her husband.

Lucifer looked over to Lilith. Their eyes met and he understood the message that she was sending. ‘Give her the apple, now.’

He reached into a pocket on his robe and pulled out the apple. He held it out to Eve in his hand. She looked at it admiringly. The apple shone in the sunlight. It looked so appealing and appetizing that Lucifer himself was tempted to bite into it. “What is that?” Eve finally asked him, her eyes not moving from the fruit.

Lucifer grinned. “It’s an apple.” He told her. “Would you like it?”

Eve reached out her hand for it and then pulled it back. “Where did you get this from?” She asked, a bit weary of the food being offered to her by someone she had met just a moment ago.

“The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.” He told her, then immediately bit his tongue, regretting telling her that. ‘Now she might not want it if she knows where it’s really from.’ He thought to himself.

She held her hands by her side. “No, I can’t.” She told him, quickly taking her eyes off the apple. “God said we mustn’t eat food from that tree.”

“Why did he say that?” Lucifer asked, raising an eyebrow.

Eve looked around nervously and picked at her nails. She finally looked back at the angel. “I’m not sure.” She replied.

“Don’t you want to have knowledge?” He asked, holding the apple closer to her. He felt a twinge of guilt in his body. He didn’t like going against what God had told the humans to do, but he figured if Lucifer pleaded his case he would understand. He assured himself this was the right thing to do. “Just a bite.”

Eve bit the inside of her cheek. She reached out and picked the apple out of Lucifer’s hand. “I guess one bite wouldn’t do much harm.” The angel nodded in agreement.

Eve bit into the apple. It crunched when her teeth hit it. She looked up from the fruit with her eyes wide. She looked at Lucifer and back down at herself. She looked down at her bare body terrified. “I’m naked!” She shrieked.

Lucifer looked her up and down. He hadn’t noticed she was naked the same way he hadn’t noticed Lilith was naked. “Oh uh I guess you are.” Lucifer replied in agreement.

Eve looked around nervously. Her eyes were darting all around. She looked down at the apple and swallowed hard.

“I have to go.” She told Lucifer. “I’m sorry.” She apologized darting past the angel. “Thank you for the apple, Lucifer.” She called out over her shoulder, running out of view.

Lilith crept out from behind the large rock. “That was amazing, Lucifer.” She said with a smile.

Lucifer smiled nervously. “Thank you.”

A man’s voice echoed in the distance. “A serpent gave you an apple?” The voice asked. It was aggressive and seemed like it was mad at something. Lilith looked in the direction of the voice nervously. “That’s Adam," she told him, grabbing his wrist. “Let’s go.”

Lilith ran towards the forest with Lucifer following closer behind her.

When the two reached the forest, they stopped for a moment to catch their breath.

“That…was…Adam?” Lucifer asked between small, shaky breaths. Lilith nodded, her chest rising and falling quickly as she tried to get her breathing back to normal.

Lucifer glanced over his shoulder. He was sure that no one was following them but he just wanted to make sure. And like it was for the past mile and a half, there was no one. He turned back towards Lilith.

The human wrapped her arms around the angel. “Thank you, Lucifer, thank you.” She whispered to him, squeezing him tight. Lucifer placed his gloved hands on her back. “Of course, Lilith,” he replied, “I would do anything for you.”

She pulled away from the hug and smiled. Her cheeks flushed pink and a small light in her violet eyes twinkled.

Lucifer felt something cold hit his shoulder, it was wet like water but it was only a single droplet. Then another drop hit the top of his hat, then another hit his arm.

He looked up towards the sky. The droplets slid through the trees and below onto them. Another droplet of water landed right in the middle of his forehead. It slid down his face like a tear and dropped off of his jaw.

“What’s happening?” He asked Lilith. She sighed. “It’s raining.”

“Raining.” The angel repeated. He had heard of this before but never had experienced it before. Up in heaven, the weather was always perfect. There was no rain or thunderstorms or tornadoes or snow. It was always sunny and warm in the sky. Lucifer smiled a bit. He liked the rain. Lilith did not look as pleased.

She held onto Lucifer’s shoulder. “Here, we should get somewhere with shelter.” She informed him, pulling him away. Lucifer stopped.

“I sort of like the rain.” He told her, looking up so he could feel the water hit his face. The water slid off of the leaves on the trees above and down to them, hitting the ground with a soft noise.

Lilith scoffed. “Well that’s easy for you to say,” she told him. “You have protection.” She tapped the brim of his hat with her index finger.

The angel picked his hat off of the top of his head. “Not anymore.” He felt the rain hit the top of his soft blonde hair making it wet. “I still like the rain.”

Lilith laughed softly. She glanced up towards the sky, a few droplets hitting her face. “I suppose it isn’t too bad.” She remarked.

“Maybe it’s better when you’re enjoying it with someone else.” He told her. She smiled, her cheeks turning even pinker.

Lucifer held out his gloved hand to the human. “May I have this dance?” He asked her, feeling the blood rush into his cheeks.

She chuckled. “You may.” She replied, placing her hand in his.

The two interlocked fingers. He placed his hand on her bare waist and she placed hers on his shoulder. The two stepped in unison.

The rain tapped against the trees and the ground, creating a rhythm for the two to dance to.

Lucifer spun Lilith around, which was a bit difficult considering their height difference. Both of their hands clasped the others and they pulled each other in close. Their bodies were pressed up against the others. Their eyes locked, staring at each other for who knows how long.

“I love you, Lucifer.” Lilith confessed. She released a breath that she seemed to have been holding for a very long time.

“I love you too, Lilith.” Lucifer replied with a smile. The pink dots on either of his cheeks raised high.

Lilith leaned down towards the angel and cupped his face with her hands. She locked her lips with his. Her lips tasted like cinnamon and spices.

Lucifer brought his hands up to hers and held them over top of hers as they kissed.

The two held the kiss for a long time. Neither of them were sure for how long it was but they both wanted it to last forever. Finally, Lilith pulled away. She intertwined her fingers on top of the nape of the angel’s neck. Lucifer placed his hands on either one of the woman’s bare hips.

Lightning cracked in the sky. A streak of gold shot across the clouds, starling them both. Lilith's breath hitched and Lucifer could feel her grip tighten on his neck. Thunder boomed above them. The trees shook. One tree in the distance shook so hard, a limb fell off and hit the ground with a loud thud.

“Lucifer!”

A familiar voice from up in the sky boomed. A chill went down the angel’s spine. He could feel the goosebumps forming on his milky skin. His wings tucked behind his back and his feathers shook a little in fear.

Lucifer didn’t have to ask anymore questions to know that he was in deep, deep trouble.

He looked at Lilith with fear in his blue eyes.

Oh no.”

Chapter Text

Lucifer flew up to heaven almost immediately after hearing the booming voice above him call out his name. He quickly kissed the human on the cheek.

“What’s wrong?” She asked him, grasping his hands, not wanting him to leave.

Lucifer looked at her sadly. “I’m not sure.” He replied and flew away.

He made his way to the pearly gates.

When the angel arrived, other angels whispered, pointing and looking at Lucifer. “What’s going on?” He asked a cherub sitting on a stoop playing a lyre.

The cherub looked up at Lucifer and stopped playing his instrument. “The seraphims want to see you.” He told him. The cherub had a look on his face that told Lucifer he was in big trouble.

“Where?” Lucifer asked, raising an eyebrow. The cherub tilted his head in the direction of the Seraphim’s Palace. “In the Angelic Courtroom.” He responded, picking up his lyre once more. “Good luck.”

Lucifer nodded and placed a golden coin in the cherub's hand as he continued to play a melody. Lucifer swore the tune that the cherub was playing seemed more menacing and melancholy than it usually did.

As he walked down the golden road towards the seraphim’s palace, a sound came from the Cherub’s lyre that created a pit in his stomach. Each step he took, the notes became deeper and deeper. Everytime his boots hit the golden bricks that paved the ground, it felt heavier and heavier for him to walk. He could easily flap his wings and fly, which would make the journey shorter. Lucifer didn’t want to make the journey shorter. He was in no rush to greet whatever was waiting for him in that courtroom.

Lucifer stepped into the palace. The room smelled like honey and vanilla. It was a familiar smell but Lucifer still stopped to take it in as he was fearing it would be a while before he would be able to smell it once more.

He made his way up the marble steps to the courtroom. Usually he would’ve just flown to the courtroom but he wanted to delay his arrival for as long as possible. Each step he took up the staircase sounded like a clock ticking. With each tick of the clock, his heart sank more and more into his stomach.

A few angels hung around various parts of the palace. He could hear their whispers and murmurs and he was very confident that it was about him. He pushed the brim of his hat down over his face, hoping to conceal his face from anyone else around him.

He eventually made his way up to the top of the staircase. The giant, golden sign that said: THE ANGELIC COURTROOM made a hot lump form in his throat that made it hard for him to breath.

Lucifer took a deep breath. He tried to calm himself.

‘You’re fine. Everything’s gonna be okay. This is just one big misunderstanding. The Seraphims will surely understand.” He tried to convince himself. He pushed the brim of his hat up a little so his face could be seen. His halo shone bright above his head which made him feel a bit better about himself. He straightened his robe and walked straight into the courtroom.

The view of the whole room made him feel uneasy.

At a long desk, Asmodeus, Belphegor, Beelzebub, Levithan, Mammon, and Satan all sat, shoulder to shoulder, which was unlike them. As the door opened they all turned around to look at Lucifer. All six of them wore a concerned and worried look on their faces. Lucifer wondered if it was for him before quickly realizing that it was for themselves.

Above them, rows of archangels, seraphims, and cherubims that wrapped around the ceiling sat in jury boxes with their eyes fixed on Lucifer. Every one of their gazes burned holes into Lucifer’s brain. He noticed Micheal sitting in one of the rows. He looked down at Lucifer with fear and pity which made his heart sink to his stomach.

Lucifer looked to his side to see hundreds of cherubs sitting in benches that were open to the public to watch the trial. They all looked at Lucifer with anticipation in their eyes.

Finally, Lucifer looked straight in front of him. Sera sat in the judge's bench. Her deep blue eyes stared daggers at Lucifer. It was the type of look a mother would give their child to say that she wasn’t mad, just disappointed. Sera looked like she was both. Lucifer swallowed hard. He felt everyone’s eyes on him and it made him want to curl up in a little ball and hide away.

He looked up at the skylight above them. Usually the sun above the palace would shine light down into the room which would fill the room with light. Today, there was no light filling the room. It was cloudy and there was barely any sunlight. The only light in the room were lit candles which gave the room an eerily vibe and made everyone feel uncomfortable and tense.

“Lucifer.” Sera’s voice echoed into his ears. Her voice didn’t sound as sweet and loving as it usually did. It sounded cold and bitter. Lucifer could feel his heart pounding in his chest.

“Yes?” He finally managed to say. He could feel his ears getting hot which happened when he became nervous. He made his way inside the courtroom.

“Do you know why you’ve been summoned to this courtroom today?” She asked, studying him, moving her eyes up and down. She looked at him like he was a stranger to her. Every moment the two had shared as brother and sister faded away in an instant. Her eyes shone no mercy.

Lucifer simply shook his head. He knew exactly why he was there. He knew he had gone against what he was supposed to do. He knew he was in the wrong but he tried to convince himself he wasn’t.

“Have a seat.” She instructed him. He made his way to an empty seat at the long desk where the others were on trial. He noticed the long desk and the witness stand were laced with a special type of golden trim. His eyes widened as he reconconized what it was. It was the golden truth. It made anyone who was near was forced to tell the whole truth, even if they didn’t want to. He swallowed hard as it became more and more apparent that he was screwed.

“We are here in the case of Lucifer vs Heaven for the crime of rebellion and unleashing evil into the world.” Sera announced to the jury. More murmurs erupted around the room. Angels whispered to one another as they gave Lucifer nasty looks. Micheal simply kept looking at Lucifer like he wanted to do something but couldn’t.

“Oh.” Lucifer murmured under his breath. Sera gave him an intense look.

“How do you plead?” She asked him.

Lucifer bit the inside of his cheek. He figured he could wiggle his way out of this somehow. He was very sure of himself. “Not guilty.” He replied.

Sera raised an eyebrow towards him. “Very well.” She moved her eyes towards Asmodeus. “Our first witness brought to the stand will be Asmodeus.”

Ozzie stood up from his seat. Lucifer had never seen him looking so nervous. He made his way to the witness stand.

“Asmodeus.” Sera spoke to him. He looked up at her nervously as the golden trim around him glowed. “Were you aware of the rumors that Lucifer was seeing relations with the first woman?” She asked him.

Asmodeus stammered. He sighed and finally spoke. “Yes.” More murmurs erupted from the jury.

“And who informed you of these rumors?” She asked.

Asmodeus stammered again. “Lucifer did.” He told her. He hung his head in shame. He looked up at Lucifer and mouthed “I’m so sorry.”

“And you were aware of these rumors for how long?” Sera asked him again.

He swallowed hard. “Since this morning.” He replied.

“And you never told any high ranking official in heaven?” She asked him once more.

Asmodeus shook his head, while avoiding even contact. “I did not.” More murmurs came from the jury and the group of cherubs behind him.

“That will be all, Asmodeus.” She told him, saying his name as if it was some kind of dirty word. Asmodeus stepped out from behind the witness stand and trugged back to the table where the rest of the people on trial were. He looked back at Lucifer with sad eyes, profusely apologizing again. No apology could save Lucifer from what was about to get into.

Sera called Satan, Beelzebub, Mammon, Leviathan, and Belphegor each to the stand in that order. She asked each one of them from whom they had heard the rumor from. Mammon and Beelzebub claimed they had heard it from Asmodeus and Satan, Leviathan and Belphegor claiming that they had heard it from Mammon. None of them told any high ranking individual in heaven about what they had heard. Lucifer was a bit relieved to hear that none of them were snitches.

Satan walked by Lucifer telling him that he would kill Lucifer if they made it out alive from this. Leviathan commented that she would give anything to be out of this situation right now. Belphegor had been half asleep this whole trial.

Eventually Lucifer was called up to the stand.

Lucifer’s heart was pounding out of his chest as he made his way to the stand. He could feel everyone’s eyes on him as his boots hit the marble floor. He sat in the firm wooden chair behind the witness stand and took a deep breath.

“Lucifer.” Sera’s voice cut like knives as she spoke. Lucifer looked back up at her in acknowledgment. “Are the rumors about you and the first woman’s affair true?”

Lucifer bit his tongue. He tried to think if there was some way to manage his way out of this.

“I did not have an affair with Eve.” He replied. Sera blinked hard. “Not her, I mean that other woman.” She responded, giving the archangel a look.

“Her name’s Lilith.” He told Sera.

Sera raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me?” She asked.

Lucifer cleared his throat. “The first woman, her name is Lilith.” Sera nodded. “Well, then, were you having an affair with Lilith?” Lucifer swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes, I did.” He replied at last.

Every single angel in the jury audibly gasped. More whispers and murmurs filled the room. Lucifer looked up at Micheal who was giving his brother a disapproving look.

“And how long was this affair going on for?” Sera asked him.

Lucifer shrugged his shoulders. “I’m not entirely sure.” That wasn’t a lie. Being with Lilith made Lucifer feel like time was flying by and made him feel like he had known her forever. He wanted to be with her forever. He wasn’t entirely sure for how long he had known her.

“I see.” She replied, leaning closer to the witness stand. “Did you approach Lilith or did she approach you.”

Lucifer stuttered. “I approached her.”

“Even after you were given specific instructions to not let the humans see you?”

Lucifer nodded in response. “Yes.” He heard a few more whispers coming from the crowd.

“I see.” Sera replied, pressing her fingers together so her hands looked like a triangle. Lucifer could see some anger in her eyes becoming more and more evident. “And is it true that you gave Adam and Eve the forbidden fruit from The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil?”

Lucifer looked up at Sera with a puzzled expression. When did Adam get the apple? The angel had never even seen the first man, let alone gave him the apple. “Well, I mean, not exactly.” Lucifer replied honestly.

Sera appeared shocked with his answer. He looked toward the jury, who were all exchanging confused glances with one another. Even Micheal’s expression softened a bit. “Not exactly?” The seraphim asked, repeating Lucifer’s words.

Lucifer nodded, his top hat falling slightly towards his face. He pushed it out of his face with the palm of his hand. “I didn’t give the first man the apple, just Eve.”

Sera opened her mouth to speak and then closed it. “But you still gave a human the apple, unleashing evil into the world?” She asked him.

Lucifer straightened up his seat. He began seeing more confidence in his case. “I gave Eve the ability to have knowledge of the world, good and bad.” The archangel told Sera, with a bit of defiance in his voice. Aside from doing this for Lilith, he truly believed that Eve should be able to be her own person outside of Adam. She didn’t deserve to be a servant to her husband for the rest of her life. She deserved to be her own woman. “And if that means unleashing evil into the world, so be it, at least there is a balance now.”

Sera looked sternly at Lucifer. “Because of your actions and your beliefs, Adam and Eve have now been exiled out of the garden of Eden.”

Gasps and whispers erupted from everyone in the courtroom. Lucifer stared at Sera with shock in his eyes. “Exiled?” The archangel asked in a small voice. He didn’t mean for this to happen at all.

Sera nodded in reply. “You may return to your seat, Lucifer.” The archangel stood from his seat and walked over to the table with the rest of the angels on trial. None of them would look Lucifer in the eye. He hung his head and stared down at his lap.

“We would like to bring one more witness to the stand.” Sera announced to the jury.

One more witness?

Lucifer looked up confused. Everyone who knew about the affair had been questioned.

Well, almost everyone.

“We call Lilith, the very first woman, to the stand.” Sera announced.

Everyone’s head turned to the door and gasps of shock echoed throughout the courtroom.

Lilith stood at the entrance way of the room with two masked angels on either side of her. Her long, blonde hair was draped messily over her shoulders and face. Her dark, violet eyes were filled with rage and were puffy from crying. Her pale skin was decorated in bruises and small scrapes. Her body was covered with a plain, white robe that hung off her body loosely and she wore no shoes. The masked angels by her side held her arms behind her back with holy rope.

Lucifer’s breath hitched as he saw her. “Lilith!” He cried, reaching out towards her. Before he could make it anywhere close to her, he felt something grabbing at his wrists. Holy chains clasped around either one of his wrists. They drug him back down to when he was sitting. He struggled but it was pointless.

The masked angels pulled Lilith through the courtroom. She looked like she had put up a fight but now she was too tired to struggle anymore. The human simply hung her head low. She looked at Lucifer as she passed him. She looked at him terrified and helpless, like he had never seen her before. He looked at her desperately, trying to think of how he could save her.

Eventually, Lilith reached the witness stand. She sat there looking at all the angels with disgust and her hands bound behind her back.

“Lilith.” Sera said. The human glared up at the seraphim. “Is it true that you cheated on your husband, Adam, with Lucifer?”

Lilith gave her a dirty look before answering. “That’s correct.” She remarked.

“And you rebelled against your husband?” The seraphim asked the human again. This time, Lilith didn’t make eye contact with Sera. “That’s true.” She answered. The whole jury and audience sat up on the edge of their seats. Even the other angels on trial were heavily intrigued.

Sera nodded. “And you convinced Lucifer to give the forbidden fruit to your replacement, Eve?” Everyone could tell that the word replacement hurt Lilith.

Lucifer sat up in his seat. He didn’t tell the court that Lilith had anything to do with the apple. How did they know this? He slammed his fist on the table and stood. “It wasn’t her fault, I gave her the apple myself, not Lilith!” The archangel snapped. As soon as he got the words out of his mouth, a metal plate was clamped over his mouth to stop him from talking. He screamed and grunted into the plate but all that came out were muffled sounds. Everyone in the room looked at him like was insane.

“That’s enough, Lucifer.” Sera told him, looking more worried. “You’ve had your turn to speak.” Lucifer angrily clawed and yanked at his mouth restraint as the trial continued.

“I did convince, Lucifer.” Lilith told Sera at last, bound by the holy truth. Lucifer tried to scream once more but nothing was heard besides a muffled sound. The crowd looked at each other and began chattering.

“That will be all, Lilith.” Sera told her, saying her name like it was an evil word. “The jury will have a few moments to decide their verdict.” The masked angels drug Lilith away from the witness stand and next to all of the angelic defendants. They untied her wrists and Lucifer’s shackles and mouth restrains faded away.

The two leaped into each other's arms. “Lilith!” Lucifer cried, on the verge of tears. He pulled away from her body and examined her face. She looked like she had been abused. “Are you okay?” He asked, moving her hair out of her face.

She managed a smile. “I’m okay, Lucifer, now that I’m with you.” She replied, holding his hand that was now cupped around her face. Lucifer smiled and felt a hot tear fall from his face. He could feel the other defendant's eyes on him but he didn’t care. He was with Lilith and that’s all that mattered in the moment.

“Has the jury reached their verdict?” Sera asked finally. Lucifer and Lilith’s face turned towards the jury as they held each other close. “We have, your highness.” A seraphim jury member announced.

“We the jury find Lucifer and his accomplices,” The jury member spoke. Every single person in the room held their breath at that moment. It was so quiet a pin could be heard dropping. “Guilty on all charges.”

Every person at the defendant’s table gasped. Sera looked down at Lucifer with pity. He swore he could see tears forming in her eyes. “Very well.” She responded at last.

From Asmodeus to Satan, all of Lucifer’s accomplices had shackles forming around their wrists. Lilith and Lucifer both had cuffs around their wrists as they held one another.

“This crime will be punishable by exile from heaven.” Sera announced, sounding as if each word pained her to say. Everyone in the room gasped loudly. Lucifer felt his stomach drop.

Exile from Heaven.

“Wait!” Lucifer cried. The whole room stopped in unison. Lucifer felt rage and pain boiling up inside of him.

“This isn’t fair!” He yelled at Sera.

Sera looked on the brink of tears. “I’m sorry, Lucifer, these are the rules.” She told him.

“I tried to give humans a chance to have a better understanding of who they are and give them access to the knowledge of the world around them and I’m being punished?” Lucifer snapped back at her. He did not care any longer. He was consumed with pain. “I did what was right!” He screamed.

A single tear fell onto Sera’s cheek. “Your hubris will be your downfall, Lucifer.” She told him.

He felt Lilith grasping on tighter to him, her hands shaking.

“Goodbye, Lucifer.” Sera said grimly, another tear falling down her cheek.

“Wait!” Lucifer cried again. The ground dropped from beneath him.

He fell.

Chapter 6: how the mighty do you fall?

Chapter Text

The wind whistled around Lucifer’s ears as he fell. It stung his skin like shards of glass were whipped by him and pierced his pale skin. The last bit of heaven he saw was Sera’s disappointed, tear stained face. The light of heaven faded as the former angel ascended into darkness.

Lucifer gripped tightly onto Lilith as they both dropped. Her blonde hair whipped around behind her and he could feel parts of her white robe tearing a bit.

Lucifer tried to keep his eyes open as he fell but the wind burned his eyes and caused tears to form in his eyes. It wasn’t like the wind was completely the reason for the tears, the notion that Lucifer would never see the pearly gates again may have contributed to the waterworks.

As they fell, the white light from heaven slowly got dimmer and dimmer until eventually it was pitch black. Lucifer couldn’t see a thing and the only sense of anything he had was feeling Lilith’s skin against his. Eventually the pitch black darkness turned into sort of a red light. It was a deep, crimson red that made Lucifer’s stomach churn when he saw it.

As the red light consumed them, Lucifer heard a voice ringing in his ears. It was a female’s voice. The voice was deep and sharp and one he had never heard before.

“Lucifer.”

The voice called his name. He blinked hard and looked around, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from but he couldn’t spot it anywhere. Maybe it was all in his head.

“Oh Lucifer, how mighty do you fall?” The voice spoke once again, this time louder. The sound of the woman’s voice made his heart pound out of his chest. His eyes darted around trying to find the source of the voice but he still found nothing.

The angel tried to calm himself as they fell. This was pretty difficult as he had been falling for who knows how long and had no idea when they were going to stop. As they fell, it seemed like the temperature was rising and caused Lucifer to have beads of sweat forming around his body.

“Lucifer.” A female voice said. He panicked until he realized it was Lilith saying his name. He looked down at her. Her dark eyes were filled with tears and she looked as terrified as Lucifer felt. “I’m scared.” She told him.

He held her close, letting her head rest on his chest. “I know, my love.” He told her, planting a kiss on top of her head. “Everything will be alright.” He promised. Lucifer was more convincing himself of that than Lilith.

After what felt like an eternity, Lucifer could see the ground below them. He held him and his love close, trying to brace for impact.

They hit the ground hard. Lucifer could pain shooting through his whole body as he hit the ground beneath him. His head smacked against the floor so hard he knew instantly it drew blood. He felt his wings being ripped out from underneath him. He was sure something broke as he fell. Everything hurt so much he just closed his eyes and screamed out in pain.

His body had protected Lilith from getting hurt from the impact. “Lucifer!” She called, slowly getting off of him. He slowly opened his eyes. He saw Lilith overtop him. Her hands were stained with blood. It was a golden ichor so it wasn’t her’s, it was his.

“Lil…” Lucifer managed out of his mouth.

“You’re bleeding.” She pointed it, placing her hand underneath his head. Her eyes darted from one wound on his body to the next.

“I’m fine, Lil.” He told her. He figured he still retained his immortality. He figured a punishment this cruel had to last an eternity.

On top of Lilith’s head, purple horns began to sprout. They grew bigger and curled around her hair. The fallen angel’s eyes widened when he saw them. “Horns.” Was all Lucifer managed to say.

“What?” She asked. He kept his eyes on the top of her head. Lilith felt the top of her head. Her eyes widened when her hand touched one of the horns. “Oh my god!” She screamed, her hands shaking as they felt the new addition to her body. It was the first time he had ever heard someone say that. He could see more tears forming her in her eyes.

Lucifer placed his hand on top of hers. “You still look as beautiful as ever.” He assured her. She smiled.

He sat up and felt his back with his other hand. His fears were confirmed. His wings had been ripped from him in the fall and it made him sick.

“Oh.” He mumbled. He looked behind him to see all six of his wings grey and shriveled up. It was hard to believe that those wings once lifted him off the ground and carried him to wherever he wanted to go. Now they are gone.

Lilith’s eyes wandered to the wings that had been amputated from his body. “Oh Lucifer.” She said, pulling him in close. He didn’t wrap his arms around her, instead they went limp by his side. His eyes looked up above them. He saw a small, white dot in the sky. It was heaven looking down on them. Literally and figuratively.

He wondered if they all watched him, Lilith and his friends fall. Oh no his friends. “Where are they?” He asked.

“Who?” Lilith responded, pulling away from the hug. Lucifer’s eyes darted around the dark empty space. “Asmodeus!” He screamed. “Beelzebub! Satan!” There was no response. He needed to find them. He was the reason they were in this mess.

“Lucifer.” He heard a familiar voice behind him say. He whipped his head around to see who it was.

From the shadows, Satan, Beelzebub, Mammon, Asmodeus, Levithan, and Belphegor walked from the shadows. All six of them looked bloodied and bruised but they were alive.

Lilith helped him to his feet. When he tried to step, he heard a crack and a jolt of pain shot through his body. He cried out in pain and fell into Lilith’s arms. She caught him quickly. “Lucifer, what's wrong?” She asked. His leg was definitely broken. He had bitten his lip so hard in pain that he was sure he tasted blood.

He straightened back up and hobbled over to his friends, not putting any weight on his leg and using Lilith for support.

“Where are we?” Beelzebub asked, looking around and nervously twiddling her thumbs. Her once vibrant fur turned a sickly shade of yellow.

“I’m not exactly sure.” Lucifer replied, darting his eyes around every part of this place.

The sky was a dark hue of red and the ground was black with cracks in it. The place smelled like a campfire and brimstone. It was significantly hotter than heaven or earth.

“Hell.” That deep female’s voice said. “This place is hell.”

“Hell.” Lucifer repeated aloud to his friends. “We’re in hell.”

They all looked at each other nervously. All six of his friends looked far weaker than they were in heaven. But somehow down here, they all seemed more powerful, he couldn’t explain why though.

“Lucifer.” Lilith said softly. He turned towards her and she nodded to the ground beside her.

Lucifer’s halo laid on the ground. It was dim and had golden blood splattered on it. Lucifer’s breath hitched. The halo that symbolized his holiness had been dimmed and ripped off of him. It stung hard. He felt a tear fall down his cheek. He was feeling so much pain in that moment that all wanted to do was crawl up into Lilith’s arms and cry himself to death.

The sadness inside of them quickly turned into rage. He looked up at everyone who had their eyes on him.

“Are we just gonna sit here and take this from heaven or are we gonna do something about it?” Lucifer asked.

Everyone looked at each other nervously. “What are you talking about?” Belphegor asked, looking more exhausted than usual.

Lucifer straightened up, still with his arm around Lilith for support. “Do you remember what they told us about the harmful vices when we were in heaven.”

“Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Envy, and Sloth.” Levithan listed, crossing her arms over her chest. “What’s your point?”

“They used to tell us that’s what made us weak.” Lucifer told them. “But down here, that’s what makes us strong.”

“What are you babbling about, Lucifer?” Satan asked, angrily.

“Heaven had so many rules and it was polished and didn’t allow any room for anything.” Lucifer recalled. “This place is gonna be different.”

“I like where this is going.” Asmodeus nodded in agreement.

“This place is going to be better.” The female voice said in his head.

“This place is gonna be better.” Lucifer repeated. He got an idea “I dragged you all down here with me, I’m gonna make it up to you.”

“How are ya gonna do that?” Mammon asked, cocking an eyebrow.

Lucifer grinned and told him his plan.

Building a whole new civilization wasn’t easy, but they did it.

Lucifer granted each one of his friends and himself a ring of Hell for which he felt represented them the best. He and Lilith ruled over the Pride Ring of Hell as king and queen.

At this point they had spent over a millennia trying to build Hell from the ground up and it still wasn’t finished. Everyday there was a new task to tackle or something to fix and Lucifer had to admit it was a bit exhausting.

When he slept at night, the woman’s voice still rang through his ears. Sometimes he could sleep through it but other nights he would wake up shaking in a cold sweat.

Lucifer hated to admit it, but part of him still missed heaven. He missed how beautiful and bright it was and how he could see the stars. He missed seeing that one star in the morning the God had told him he created specifically for him, his morningstar.

He missed his brothers and he even hated to admit it, but he missed Sera. Whenever he closed his eyes, all he could see was her disappointed face staring back at him as he fell. That also kept him up at night.

One morning, Lucifer was laying half awake in bed. His head rested on top of Lilith’s chest. Her arm was around his back and Lucifer could feel her chest slowly rising and falling as she softly snored. He watched the red sun rise slowly over Pentagram city. The heat from the sun warmed their room which almost eased him back into his sleep.

A loud bang echoed through their house. Lucifer jolted straight up from where he had been laying. “Huh?” He murmured, grubbing his eye with his fist.

Lilith stayed where she was laying but woke up. “Hm?” She mumbled, still with her eyes closed. Another banging echoed, Lucifer realized it was coming from their front door.

“What is it, Luci?” Lilith asked, slowly opening her eyes. Lucifer placed his hand on her shoulder. “I’ll get it, Lil.”

She smiled softly at him. She pulled the blanket back over her body and rolled over.

Lucifer sat up on the edge of the bed and ran his fingers through his hair. Another knock echoed through the house. “I’m coming!” He yelled loud enough he was sure the person heard him. He put on his slippers and slipped on his robe with a monogrammed “L” on it.

He picked up the cane sitting next to his bed that he needed to walk due to his most likely permanently broken leg he had sustained in the fall. It was black and had an apple on top, which he insisted on placing there. Just because the man was injured didn’t mean he wasn’t allowed to have a sense of humor.

He walked down the staircase to the middle floor and opened the red, wooden door.

A man stood on the other side. Lucifer wouldn’t tell exactly how old he was. He appeared to be in his late thirties but his eyes looked older than the earth itself.

Lucifer looked surprised. No one else was supposed to be in hell besides the Morningstars and the Sins. “Um, can I help you?” The fallen angel asked the man.

The man placed his hands on his leather jacket pocket. He had brown hair and tan skin. He wore a red tank top and ripped black jeans with spikes on his back and combat boots. He had a red mark on his skin. “Yeah, can you tell me where I am?” He asked.

“Uh, hell.” Lucifer responded, he squinted his eyes. “I’m sorry, who are you?”

The man had an irritated expression on his face. “Cain.” He replied. “Who are you?”

Lucifer ran the name Cain through his head but he could think of anyone on Heaven or Earth that was named that. “Lucifer.” He introduced himself.

Cain’s eyes widened at his name. “Lucifer?” He repeated, scanning him up and down. “Like the fallen angel?”

Lucifer nodded. “I don’t imagine that’s a very popular name.” He replied.

Cain looked down at Lucifer like a little kid. “I’ve heard stories about you.” He said in astonishment.

Right on cue, Lilith came walking down the stairs. She had her silk, light pink robe tied around her and her blonde hair flowed behind her.

“Who’s at the door, Lucifer?” She asked, before stopping in her tracks when she saw Cain. “Adam?” She asked with a voice crack.

Cain looked at her a bit confused. “No Adam was my father.” He replied, he studied Lilith. “And who are you?”

Lucifer’s eyes widened like his wife’s. His voice sounded so much like Adam’s it was eerie. And of course his wife’s ex-husband’s son would be standing at his doorstep, two feet taller than him. He sighed.

“Lilith.” She replied, standing a few inches next to Lucifer. She slipped her hand underneath his arm.

Cain raised an eyebrow when she introduced herself. “I’ve heard things about you too.” Lilith raised an eyebrow, assuming it wasn’t good things.

“So that would make Eve your mother?” Lucifer asked, placing one hand on his hip. Cain nodded.

“God, you look exactly like your father.” She remarked, tilted her head to look at him better.

“So I’ve been told.” Cain responded with an eye roll. “So can either one of you tell me why I’m here?”

The couple looked at each other with confusion. Lilith shrugged her shoulders in response. “Well you don’t look very alive.” Lucifer remarked. Cain had razor sharp yellow teeth and golden eyes with red irises which were very unhuman-like.

“Yeah, I starved to death.” Cain grumbled. Lucifer looked at the boy who was scrawnier than Lucifer.

Lucifer thought back to his time in Heaven where he had been told that humans would go there after they died if they had been virtuous. Would humans go down here if they had been the opposite.

“Cain,” Lucifer began, looking the son of Adam up and down. “Have you done anything in your life that would be particularly…unvirtuous?”

Cain didn’t look too pleased by Lucifer’s question. “Does killing your brother out of jealousy count?” He asked.

Lucifer pursed his lips. “That would do it.” Lilith sucked in air between her teeth. “Uh, how old are you anyways kid?” He felt weird about calling Cain kid because he was much taller and appeared older than him.

“A little over seven hundred years old.” He replied casually. The demonic royal couple raised their eyebrows in shock. Lucifer blinked hard. “Well you don’t look a day over five hundred.”

Lucifer’s eyes wandered to the mark on his hand. “If you don’t mind me asking,” he began, not able to remove his eyes off the mark. “What is that?”

“It’s called the ‘Mark of Cain.’” Cain explained with looking down at his hand. “I was given this after I murdered my brother and was exiled by God.”

“Been there.” Lilith remarked under her breath. Lucifer nodded along in agreement.

Cain fidgeted with his fingers nervously. “God, I hope my kids are okay.”

Lucifer raised his eyebrows. This kid surprised them every time he opened his mouth. “Kids?” Lucifer asked, glancing over at Lilith. “You have kids.”

“Six of them.” Cain replied, crossing his hairy arms over his chest. “Four sons and two daughters.”

Lilith popped her mouth as she opened it to speak. “So Cain.” She began, also crossing her hands over chest. “What are your parents up to?” She said parents like it was a dirty word. She wore a nasty look on her face.

Cain shrugged. “I wish I knew.” He replied, sadly. “I haven’t seen them in a few centuries.” He explained, his voice wavering a little.

Lilith uncrossed her arms and her harsh expression softened. She looked as if she almost felt sorry for the son of Adam. “Oh Cain.”

“It’s fine.” Cain insisted, giving Lilith a hardened look. “I don’t need anyone’s pity.”

A moment of silence hung in the air as Lilith and Cain exchanged nasty looks to one another. The son of Eve crossed his hands over his chest. “So does anyone have a clue why I went to sleep last night and now I’m standing here.” He asked, looking between Lucifer and Lilith.

“Well, Cain.” Lucifer began, holding his cane in front of him with both hands. “I believe this might be your eternal punishment.”

“Eternal punishment?” Cain repeated, raising a dark eyebrow.

“For killing your brother.” The fallen angel explained. “The sin of Envy and Wrath.”

“You’re kidding.” Cain said plainly, as if it wasn’t really asking a question.

Lucifer shook his head in response. “Lilith, do me a favor and get a hold of the rest of the sins.” He said turning towards his wife. “We’ve just gotten our very first sinner.”

Chapter Text

Lucifer rested his head against his desk in his office, a few pieces of his blonde hair falling over his red eyes. After his fall, his icy blue eyes turned a deep red. Just another cheerful reminder that he was damned for all of eternity.

He was absolutely exhausted. Exhausted didn’t even cover it. Lucifer needed to lay down for a month and after that he still wouldn’t be fully rested.

Over the past week, he had gotten around five hours of sleep total. He had spent most nights up in his office going over plans for Hell, answering phone calls, filling out paperwork, signing contracts, or sketching out buildings for the Pride ring. He had gone through some many pencils that he would build a forest with all the leftover wood.

Over the past decade or so, the total population of sinners seemed to increase ten fold. It seemed like every day a new murderer or a group of thieves would be killed off and then drop into Pentagram city.

Not to mention over a few centuries or so ago, these little red things called imps started popping up. Ozzie, Beelzebub, and Lucifer agreed to split the three different types of hellborns into their respective rings. Succubus would head down to Lust, Hellhounds would reside in Gluttony, and imps would stick around in pride.

Lucifer didn’t bother keeping up with what the Ars Goetia dynasty was up to. They had their own thing going on which meant that he didn’t have to deal with them. The only problem was he had to attend some kind of wedding between two Goetic families a few days ago, which put him way behind on paperwork.

The imps didn’t bother him as much because they could go into whatever ring they wanted. The sinners were stuck in Pride which automatically made them Lucifer’s problem. Lucky him.

Lucifer sighed heavily and picked his head up. He read and signed another paper and then slid it off into a tall stack of papers sitting on the edge of his desk. He set the pen down in front of him and took a good look at his gloved hand.

His ring sat on his finger and gleamed back at him. Lucifer could feel a small smile spreading across his face.

A little over a century after he landed in Hell, he and Lilith became married. It was the best day of his life.

Of course, he didn’t really need a wedding to prove that he loved her. He knew she was the one for him the first time he laid eyes on her in the garden. She was the most perfect being in all the rings of hell. He always felt so lucky to call her his wife.

He tapped his fingers along the edge of his desk trying to remember what day they had gotten married. It was sometime around this date. Was it in a month? No. Was it in a week? No.

It was today.

Lucifer jolted up in his seat.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” He mumbled to himself, running his fingers through his hair and then grabbing a fistful of his blonde locks with each hand.

How could he have been so forgetful? This was the anniversary of the most important day of his life, and he had just forgotten about it like it was another day.

“I’m such an idiot.” He groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose and leaning back in his chair.

He checked the time on his watch.

10:30 pm

He still had an hour and a half of this day he could spend with Lilith. He had to make it to her. She was his everything and he needed to make sure that she knew that.

Lucifer stood up from his seat and grabbed his cane. He didn’t really need the cane that much anymore. His leg had basically healed over the last ten hundred millennia but it still felt safe for Lucifer to keep around.

Lucifer scurried out of his office and around the house to find his wife. His eyes darted around the living room. Where the hell was she?

“Lucifer?” He heard a sweet voice call his name. He looked over to the staircase where he had heard it from. It was Lilith standing right outside their bedroom door. She was wearing a dark purple, long sleeved dress that went above her knees. Her blonde hair was pushed back by the crown she wore as the queen of hell. Her lips were lined with dark lipstick.

“Lilith.” Lucifer said breathlessly. He quickly rushed up the stairs. As soon as he made it to the same level as her, he rushed into her arms.

“Lil, I’m so sorry.” He apologized, wrapping his arms around her. “God, I am so so so sorry.”

Lilith placed her hands on his shoulders. “Sorry for what?” She asked absently. When he didn’t respond, she placed her hand under his chin and tilted his head so he was looking at her. “Lucifer?”

Lucifer swallowed hard. “I completely forgot about our anniversary.” He admitted weakly. “I’ve just been so busy…” His voice trailed off at the end. He didn’t want to make excuses for himself. He was in the wrong and he needed to own up to it, as much as it hurt his pride.

“Oh Lucifer.” Lilith said sweetly. “You have been working so incredibly hard. You don’t need to apologize for forgetting our anniversary, please don’t beat yourself up about that.” She told him.

She looked down at him with the most understanding look on his face. The way she looked at him made him want to melt right there. “I don’t deserve you, Lili.” He told her softly.

“Oh, honey.” She replied, stroking the top of his head with her hand. “You deserve at least me.”

“God, why is she so nice to me?” Lucifer thought to himself as he rested his head against her chest so he could hear her heartbeat. He would fall at least a thousand more times if it meant he got to be with her for eternity.

Lilith tucked a stray piece of hair behind his ear. “You’ve been working so hard and you must be so exhausted.” She told him. “Surely there’s something I can do to make you feel better.”

“Hm?” Lucifer asked. He picked his head up and realized his wife had that same mischievous look on his face that made his heart beat fast. “Oh.”

“Only if you’re feeling up to it, of course.” She added sweetly.

Lucifer smiled and kissed her. “Of course I am.” He replied.

Lilith grabbed his hand and opened their bedroom door. It creaked open to reveal their large king sized bed covered with a silky, red blanket. A few candles were lit on the dressers and on the nightstand. They produced a cinnamony scent throughout the room.

The two entered the room and closed it behind them. Lucifer placed his hands on Lilith’s hips and reached up to his tippy toes to kiss her again. She let out a soft sound as their lips met. She pulled away and placed her hand over Lucifer’s and pulled him towards the bed.

Lucifer sat on the edge of the bed with his eyes focused on every move his wife made. Lilith placed her hands on both of his knees to spread his legs. She then used his knees as support to kneel down in front of her husband.

Lucifer placed his hand under Lilith’s chin and tilted it so she was looking up at him. “I love you so much, Lil.” He said, breathlessly. Lilith smiled. “I love you too, Luci.” She replied.

He pulled her face up closer to his. They locked lips again. Her breath smelled like maple syrup.

Their lips parted and her black lipstick was smudged a bit. Lucifer wiped it off a bit with his thumb.

Lilith ran her hands down the side of his torso. Her hands made their way to his hips and they slightly bucked under her touch. Her nibble fingers moved to his belt buckle, which made him semi-hard. “May I?” She asked, looking up at him.

He swallowed and nodded. “Please.” He responded softly. Lilith smiled and slowly unbuckled his belt. She slid it out of his belt loops and tossed it onto the floor with a clank. She used her index finger and thumb to unbutton his pants. Her thumb unzipped his pants.

She placed her hands on his thighs and slowly slid his white pants down to his ankles and then slid them off. She gripped the band of his boxers and slowly tugged down to take them off. The absence of his boxers revealed his not so semi hard anymore boner.

Lilith looked up and grinned at her husband. “You’re so excited already,” She pointed out. “And I’ve barely even touched you.”

Lucifer gulped. Lilith placed her lips on the side of his cock and kissed it. He couldn’t help bucking his hips at her touch. Lilith placed one hand on his hips. “If you keep squirming, I can’t do what I need to do.” She told him, placing her lips on him once again. He nodded in understanding.

She placed her lips on the tip of his cock, which was already dripping with precome. Lucifer shuddered as he felt her lips on him. Lilith took him in more, her tongue swirling around his length. He groaned.

She slowly took him out of her mouth and then into her mouth again. Her mouth popped as she pulled out. She drug her tongue along his tip, causing him to throw his head back and grip the sheets. “Lilith…” He moaned, softly.

Lilith didn’t say anything but Lucifer could see the smile on his face. She continued sucking on him, each time she moved her mouth, saliva ran down his cock. “Oh…f-fuck, Lil…” He groaned, moving his hips to her touch. She began moving her mouth up and down him faster.

Lucifer could feel himself getting closer and closer to the edge with every movement of her mouth. “Lil…fuck…I’m gonna-” He managed out of his mouth. She smiled slightly and nodded in approval. She moved her mouth one more time and he groaned as he came.

He bucked his hips and he released into his wife’s mouth. Lilith swallowed and wiped some of the semen that dripped out of her mouth with her thumb.

“Fuck Lili, you’re amazing.” Lucifer mumbled, trying to catch his breath. Lilith sat up with Lucifer’s help and sat next to him in bed. “Do you feel better, honey?” She asked, placing her hand on top of his.

He planted a kiss on her mouth. “Much.” He replied. His hand dragged down to his wife’s thigh. “But I think someone else needs a little attention too.” He prompted, gazing into her violet eyes. She smiled.

Lucifer kissed her again. He pulled away from the kiss, sure he had gotten some of her black lipstick on himself. She giggled as she wiped the makeup off his lips. He drug his lips down to his wife’s neck. She threw her head back to allow her husband to have more access.

He moved his lips all around her throat, leaving a few hickies along the way. His hand fell to the zipper on her dress. He looked up at her. “May I?” He asked for approval. She nodded softly. “Go ahead.”

Lucifer slowly unzipped her soft purple dress. It fell off her shoulders and down her body to reveal her lacy, black bra covering her chest. Lilith lifted her hips so her husband could pull the rest of the dress off of her.

He slid the dress off and threw it to where his belt and pants were laying. Lucifer slowly reclined his wife back as he placed kisses along her collarbone. Lilith’s blonde hair draped over the pillows behind her head.

Lucifer placed his knees on either side of her hips. He planted kisses along the outline of her breasts. She let out a soft moan each time his lips touched her skin. Her hands moved down to his chest, unbuttoning his shirt and sliding it off his body.

He continued dragging his lips across her chest. “Mmm.” Lilith moaned, chest rising and falling slowly. Lucifer moved his mouth and began kissing down her stomach. He went down her abdomen and over her bellybutton.

He pressed his lips just below her stomach and just above the band of her black, lacy panties. Lucifer placed his hands on her thighs where her panties were sitting. He looked up at her for approval.

“Mhm.” Lilith nodded toward him. Lucifer slipped his hands into the sides of her underwear and slipped them down her legs. He tossed it next to where the rest of their clothes were.

He pressed his lips down her inner thighs. She shuddered as his mouth made contact with her soft skin. She bent her knees and placed her feet flat on the bed.

Lucifer drug his tongue flat from her slit all the way up to her clit. It was dripping wet for him. Lilith moaned softly and slightly arched her back. “Fuck.” She moaned under her breath.

“Feel good.” Her husband asked, looking up at her. She nodded. “Mhm. Keep going.” Lucifer smiled and ran his tongue along her throbbing clit. Another moan exited Lilith’s mouth, which was music to his ears.

He flicked his forked tongue again over her clit. “Mmm.” His wife moaned a bit louder. He moved his tongue up and down over her clit again. He swirled the tip of his tongue over the tip of her clit making her grab a handful of the sheets and throw her head back. “Oh, right there, Luci.” She moaned, breathlessly.

Lucifer smiled up at her. “I help create your body, baby.” He told her, resting his chin on her stomach. “You don’t think I wouldn’t know my way around it.” Lilith rolled her eyes playfully at his comment. “Of course you do.” She replied, her cheeks red.

He placed his head down in between her legs and continued moving his tongue over her sensitive clit, her moans increasing with every flick he made. “Fuck…Luci….mmm, I’m close.” She moaned, her chest rising and falling quickly. Lucifer drug his tongue over her one more time and that was enough to send her over the edge. Her hips bucked and she came onto his tongue, his lips soaking from her juices.

Lucifer sat up and wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb. “Fuck…” She mumbled out once more. She took a moment to catch her breath before giving her husband a seductive look. He moved off of her and sat next to her on his knees. He patted his thigh. “Come here.” He begged, softly.

She sat up right and scooted over to Lucifer. Lilith sat on his legs, her butt resting on his knees. She wrapped her arms around neck as he ran his hands along her back. “You feel so good, Luci.” She told him, before kissing him. Their two tongues danced over each other. They pulled away and Lucifer smirked.

“I can make you feel better.” He replied, moving one hand to her thigh. She nodded. Lucifer reached that hand down in between her legs. He rested his middle and ring finger over her clit. Her breath hitched as he touched her. She rested her cheek against his. “Please.” She moaned in his ear.

Lucifer began stroking his fingers over her already very sensitive clit. He could feel her juices from a few moments ago soaking his two fingers. He continued rubbing her clit as she rested her forehead on Lucifer's shoulder and let out moans of pleasure. Her hands ran along his back, over top of his scars from his wings.

Lilith bounced up and down with every movement he made. Her bra rubbed over Lucifer’s nipples as she moved, arousing him. As he curled his fingers, he could feel the heat from her cunt on his cock. He felt himself becoming harder and harder underneath her.

He began rubbing her faster and faster as her breaths got heavier and heavier. She whined as Lucifer drugged his two fingers over her clit one last time. Her breath hitched before she let out a high pitched moan and came all over his fingers.

She kept her head on his shoulder as she calmed herself down after two orgasms in a row. After a moment, she pulled herself off of her husband and sat up on her knees in front of him. Lilith reached her lips to her husband’s and kissed him once more, sliding her tongue over his. She pulled away and Lucifer looked at her with delight.

Lilith smiled and her eyes ventured down to his cock. “Oh.” She said, with her hands on her knees. “Someone’s excited.”

Lucifer felt the blood rushing into his cheeks. He smiled and looked up at his wife. “Who wouldn’t be hearing you make those beautiful noises.” Lilith laughed softly. She raised up a bit and placed her hands on his shoulders. “Would you like me to do something about that?”

He nodded. “Please.” He responded. Lilith traced her finger over one of his pecs. “Please what?” She asked seductively. Lucifer sighed. “Please fuck me.” He begged.

Lilith smiled and gently pushed him onto his back. She moved her knees to either side of her husband’s hips. She placed her slit right over her husband’s boner and slid it in. The couple both moaned in unison and they felt each other. Lilith began rocking her hips over top of her husband.

Lucifer looked up at her as waves of pleasure danced through his body. Lilith’s breasts moved up and down in her lacy bra and her blonde hair was draped over her shoulder. He swallowed hard. What had he done to deserve a woman like her?

She continued riding Lucifer at the same pace which was perfect for him. Lilith reached her hand down to her core and began rubbing her clit and the same rhythm she was riding her husband. Their moans echoed through the room. Lucifer gripped his hands over her thighs as he felt himself getting closer to the edge.

“Lil, I’m close…” He moaned, biting his lower lip to keep himself from making more noise. “Me too, baby.” She replied breathlessly. Lilith flicked her clit and thrusted against him one more time.

That motion was enough for both of them to be sent over the edge. The couple came at the same time, both throwing their heads back in pleasure.

She removed her hand and slowed her pace down. Lilith moved her knees and slid off of Lucifer’s already sensitive cock. He swallowed hard at the sensation.

Lilith laid down next to her husband in the bed and pulled the covers over their bare bodies. She unhooked her bra and tossed it to the side. Lilith placed her head on top of her husband’s chest. “Happy Anniversary, honey.”

Lucifer smiled down at his wife, placing his arm around her. “Happy Anniversary, Lili.” He leaned down and planted a kiss on top of her head. “I love you.” She smiled and nuzzled her head in the crook of his neck.

“I love you too.”

Chapter Text

Lucifer woke up in the morning with his wife’s head no longer resting on his chest. He sat up with the blanket falling down his bare body. He saw the bathroom light on. A silhouette stood up tall. He heard the toilet flush echo through their bedroom.

“Lilith?” He groggily asked, rubbing his eye with the back of his hand. He sat on the edge of the bed, with the blanket still wrapped around him.

“In here, honey.” She groaned from the bathroom. Lucifer stood and realized he was still naked. He grabbed his robe from the floor and tied it around him.

Lucifer walked into the bathroom to see his wife slumped against the bathtub holding her head in her hands. “Lilith, are you okay?” He asked, walking towards her.

She looked up at her husband. “Oh yeah.” She mumbled, moving her hair from one shoulder to the other. “Just got a little sick this morning.”

Lucifer sat next to his wife and placed the back of his hand on her forehead. “Are you coming down with something, Lil?” He asked, examining her face. She didn’t look pale or sick.

She shrugged her shoulders. “No, maybe I just ate something bad yesterday.” On cue, Lilith’s face dropped and leaned over the toilet. Lucifer grabbed her hair and held it back as she threw up in the toilet. He used his free hand to rub her back and as she continued coughing into the toilet bowl. “Oh, Lili, I’m sorry.”

She slowly raised up and wiped her mouth. “It’s fine, I’m just I’ll be better once I get it out of my system.” She replied holding the hand that was holding her hair back.

The couple smiled at each other before Lilith’s eyes widened and she fell over the toilet again.

In the next two weeks, Lilith didn’t stop throwing up. She was tired all the time and didn’t have an appetite.

Lucifer became more and more worried about his wife. He tried healing her with magic and modern medicine but nothing worked. She became more irritable and then would break down crying to her husband about her anger. He tried to hold her and comfort her as much as he could, it was no use.

Eventually, the couple decided to take a trip down to Sloth to try and see if any doctors could see what was wrong with Lilith.

Lilith sat on a light purple examination table wearing a hospital gown. She dangled her feet off the edge as Lucifer sat next to her, gripping her hand.

Lucifer could tell his wife was nervous. He was too but he could let Lilith know. He gently squeezed her hand. “Whatever it is,” He told her gently. “We’ll get through it together.” She smiled softly at him as a doctor opened the door.

The doctor held a clipboard with a few pieces of paper on it. She looked up at Lilith. “Mrs. Morningstar?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. Lilith nodded in response. “We have your test results.”

The demonic royal couple straightened up and held each other's hands tighter. “What is it, Doctor?” Lilith asked, leaning on the edge of the table.

The doctor’s neutral face quickly changed into a cheerful smile. “Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Morningstar,” The doctor told them, happily. “You’re pregnant!”

The room fell silent for a minute. Lucifer and Lilith simply looked at each other, not knowing what to say.

“I’m…pregnant.” Lilith said at last with no emotion behind her voice.

“We’re gonna have a kid.” Lucifer echoed, still holding on to her hand. A million and a half thoughts ran through his head.

I’m gonna be a dad.

Am I gonna be a good father?

What if I’m a terrible parent?

Am I even cut out to be a dad?

Does Lilith want a kid?

Do I want a kid?

I’m gonna have a kid.

Lilith squeezed her husband’s hand tight. Lucifer looked at her lovingly. She smiled at him. “Luci,” She said, with tears forming in her eyes. “We’re gonna be parents.”

After nine long months, Lucifer held his little daughter, Charlotte Morningstar in his arms. She was so small and she was sleeping while being wrapped up in a blanket in her fathers arms.

Lucifer’s eyes couldn’t help but fill with tears. He had just met this little girl but already loved her so much and wanted to protect her more than anything. She slowly opened her big red eyes that looked just like her father’s. She looked up at the king of Hell and smiled. The pink circles around her cheeks lifted and she cooed.

“Oh Charlie…” Lucifer whispered to his daughter. He held his finger out to her and her small baby hand grasped his finger tightly. He smiled sweetly down at his newborn.

“Luci…” He heard a soft voice behind him. He turned to see his wife slowly waking up from her nap after giving birth. Lilith had her hospital blanket gently draped over her body and her blonde hair was braided down her back.

Lucifer smiled at his wife. “Do you want to hold her?” Lilith sat up in her hospital bed and nodded. He handed the infant over to her.

Lilith looked down at her daughter. As soon as her eyes fell on Charlotte, her eyes widened and they filled with tears. “Oh my…” Her voice caught as she examined the baby. “She’s so…little and so perfect.”

Charlie cooed again and smiled up at her mother. Lucifer sat next to Lilith as they looked down at the small baby. “She has your smile.” Lucifer told his wife, putting his arm around her. Lilith smiled and rolled her eyes. “Yeah, and she looks like you everywhere else.”

Lucifer smiled and nodded. “Like father, like daughter.” His smile slowly dropped. “How are we gonna keep her safe here?” He thought about all of the terrible things he had seen in Hell. All of the terrible people who would want to hurt an innocent soul like his daughter. It made him sick just thinking about anything bad happening to his little girl.

Lilith rested her head on her husband’s shoulder. “I can already tell she’s a brave and strong girl,” She told him. “She’s half you after all.”

Lucifer scoffed and kissed her on top of the head. “And half you, Lili.”

Whoever said raising a child in hell was easy, is a liar. Whoever said raising a child at all was an even bigger liar Every night the couple was up all night either feeding Charlie, changing her diaper, or trying to soothe her crying. She was a month old and the Morningstar’s had been hoping she would be less fussy throughout the night as she got older. They were wrong, in fact, it seemed that she had cried more the more she aged.

Lucifer didn’t mind being woken up by Charlie. He already hadn’t been sleeping most nights since she was born from nightmares. Multiple times throughout the night, he would have night terrors about terrible things happening to his daughter and he couldn’t do anything to save her.

One night, Lucifer had already been lying in bed with his eyes fixed at the wall, trying to shake the last bad dream he had. He heard Charlie crying from her crib in the other room. He sat up in bed. Lilith raised up beside him.

“I got it.” Lilith mumbled, half away. Lucifer placed his hand on her shoulder. “No, you got up with her last night. It’s my turn.” Lilith tilted her head and looked at her husband. He could see the exhaustion on her face. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to be up all night with her.” Lucifer nodded and pulled the blankets over her. “Get some rest, Lil, you deserve it.”

Lilith smiled softly. “What did I do to deserve a husband like you?” She asked. Lucifer kissed his wife on the forehead and tucked her back into bed.

Lucifer put his robe on and made his way to the kitchen. He prepared a bottle for Charlie, figuring that she was probably hungry. He placed his hand on the bottle to make sure it wasn’t to warm for her. It was perfect. He walked to his daughter’s room.

He opened the door and Charlie’s cries became louder. He walked over to her crib.

Charlie’s crib was white with red ribbon around the edge. A crib mobile with a duck, an apple, a kitty, a goat, and a snake hung over her head. Lucifer dipped down to pick up his crying daughter.

“Shh, Charlie, it’s okay, your daddy’s here.” Lucifer tried to sooth her, rocking her in his arms. The baby continued crying as her father held her close.

“Charlie, are you hungry?” He asked. Of course, she didn’t respond. Charlie continued crying her eyes out.

Lucifer sat in a rocking chair near her crib and tried to sooth her. Her sobs quieted down a bit but she didn’t stop. “It’s okay, Char, I’m here.” The devil said softly. “It’s gonna be alright.”

He couldn’t stop thinking about the nightmares he had. Everytime he looked at his daughter’s sweet face, all he thought about was how much he wanted to keep her safe. He wanted to protect from anything that would ever hurt her.

Charlie looked up at him and cooed with a smile on her face. Lucifer returned the smile. He knew Lilith was right. Charlie was a brave little girl. She was gonna do just fine. He knew that but he still wanted to keep her safe.

“You’re gonna do great things one day, Char.” Lucifer whispered gently. “You’re gonna blow us all away someday." He told her.

He propped up the bottle and put it into her mouth. Charlie’s eyes widened as she saw the bottle and she managed to cease her cries. She drank the bottle down quickly. “You were hungry, weren’t you?” Lucifer asked her sweetly. She looked up at her father and cooed.

Charlie had stopped crying but she was still wide awake and didn’t look like she was ready to sleep anytime soon. “I’m guessing you aren’t very tired, are you?” Lucifer asked his daughter. The baby simply looked up at her father and babbled. “I didn’t think so.”

Lucifer held the infant close to him, rocking back and forth gently in the chair. He hoped a lullaby would soothe her back to sleep. He began to softly sing.

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you in my arms

But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken

So I hung my head and I cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You'll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don't take my sunshine away

Charlie’s eyes seemed to be getting heavier and heavier as her father sweetly sang to her. Eventually, the young Morningstar yawned softly and closed her eyes. Lucifer sat still for a moment, not wanting to wake his daughter. Eventually, he was sure she was sleeping.

Lucifer stood up from the rocking chair, careful not to stand too quickly. He walked over to the crib and placed Charlie in it. He leaned down and placed a kiss on top of the baby’s head. He stood, walked to the door and looked behind him.

“Good night, my little angel.” He said softly. “I love you.” The door closed behind him.

He walked over to his room. Lucifer opened the door to see his wife, fast asleep under the covers where he had left her. Her soft snoring filled the room.

Lucifer took off his robe and slid into bed. He pulled the covers on top of him and inched closer to his wife. He leaned over Lilith and placed a kiss on top of her head, tucking her long blonde hair behind her ears.

“Good night, my little angel.” He said softly. “I love you.”

Lucifer arrived the door to the Morningstar’s palace with his arms full of grocery bags from the store and the pharmacy that were stacked so high he couldn’t see over them. He felt around for the door knob and managed to get it. He twisted it and opened the door wide. He walked through the door and managed to kick the door closed behind him. He dropped the bags on to the kitchen table and rummaged through them.

At the store, the king of hell had gotten cough syrup, tissues, Tylenol, ibuprofen, cough drops, yogurt, chicken noodle soup, and anything else you would need to take care of a sick toddler.

Lucifer scooped all of the items up in his arms. He awkwardly walked towards the stairs with his arms filled to the max and made his way into Charlie’s room. He reached his arm out to turn the doorknob but felt himself drop something. He sighed and bent down to pick it up. He reached for it and it spun away. Lucifer scooched over to it and picked it up and then dropped something else. He picked that up and then raised up, only to hit his head hard on the doorknob.

“Ow, son of a bitch!” He cursed to himself. The door opened in front of him. Lilith stood on the other side with her hair tied up and an exhausted look on her face. She was still in the same pajamas as yesterday and she held a thermometer in her hand.

“Watch your mouth around Charlie, Luci.” She scolded him. Lucifer sighed. “Sorry,” He apologized and then looked down at the thermometer. “How’s our girl doing?”

Lilith looked down at the thermometer and let out a deep sigh. “102.2 fever still.” She told him, pointing the thermometer at her husband so he could read it.

He frowned. “Still?” He asked with an irritated expression. “We did everything Dr. Somna said to do and the fever has barely budged.” Lucifer held up a bottle of ibuprofen and shook it. “Maybe this will help.”

“Did you get the children’s version?” Lilith asked, raising an eyebrow. He nodded. “Yes, Lil, I got the children’s version.”

“Dad?” A quiet voice croaked out from the inside the room. Lucifer poked his head in to look at his daughter. Charlie was paler than usual. Her black nose had turned red from all the sneezing and blowing her nose. She layed in the bed basically limp except for her eyes moving.

“Hey, Char, I’m here.” Lucifer told her softly, walking into her room. It was dimly lit and tissues were scattered around the room. She had a few empty cups on her nightstand and she had her tower of stuffed animals surrounding her. KeeKee was laying on Charlie’s lap fast asleep as Razzle and Dazzle sat by her bed holding a box of tissues and medicine.

Lucifer knelt by his daughter's bed and placed his hand on her forehead. She was burning up. “How are you feeling, baby?” He asked softly.

Charlie turned her head slightly to look at him. “Not very good.” She told him.

Lilith placed her hand on her husband’s shoulder and sat next to him. “She’s been asking for you ever since you left for the store.” Lucifer turned towards his daughter and stroked her soft hair that barely reached past her shoulders. “You did?” He asked.

She nodded. “I missed you.” Charlie groggily said. He smiled. “I know, kid, but I’m now.”

The little girl blinked hair and clutched the baby lamb stuffed animal in her arms. “When am I gonna feel better, Daddy?” She asked. Charlie looked exhausted, like she was fighting everything in her body to stay awake.

Lucifer sighed. He hated seeing his baby girl like this. While he did have healing powers, they typically only worked on big things like major injuries, they seemed to go right over things like the flu. “Soon, Charlie, soon.”

“Poor girl is just like you,” Lilith said, rubbing Charlie’s hand slightly with her thumb. “She doesn’t get sick often, but when she does, it’s all downhill quick.”

Lucifer scoffed and rolled his eyes at her. “Yeah but I do not get sick.” He commented. Lilith raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Oh, you don’t?” The devil shook his head.

“What about that time you came down with strep throat in the fifties?” She asked. Lucifer raised an eyebrow.

“The nineteen fifties?” He asked. Lilith shook her head. “No, the sixteen fifties-”

Charlie’s breath hitched and she began aggressively coughing. She jolted straight up and began hacking and coughing into her elbow. Lucifer placed his hand on her back and patted it, trying to get her to breathe better. Lilith grabbed a cup of water from Dazzle and held it to Charlie’s mouth to drink it. She accepted the drink and eventually stopped coughing after a few moments.

The little girl caught her breath before laying back down. “Huh,”  Lucifer said, looking back at his wife. “Like father, like daughter.” He remarked. Lilith smiled.

“Daddy?” Charlie asked weakly as she stroked KeeKee’s fur, who seemed to be affected by Charlie’s coughing fit. “Yes, angel?” Lucifer asked, leaning up towards his daughter.

Charlie frowned and sunk deeper into her pillow. “I don’t feel very good.” She pointed out. “Am I gonna be okay?”

Lucifer sighed. He thought back to all the other times that she was sick. It had never been as bad as this. Most of her illnesses had faded in a day or so, but this had lasted for almost a week. He hated to admit it, but he was growing worrisome.

He looked at her softly. “You will be okay.” He told her gently. Lucifer then looked back at his wife who was looking at their daughter with a concerned look. Lucifer grasped her hand and held it up to his mouth to kiss it. The two of them smiled at each other. “We will be okay.”

Chapter Text

Lucifer stood outside of the main entrance of Heaven’s embassy. The golden doors of the building reminded him of the golden gates of Heaven that he hadn’t seen in so long. Who knew that a replica of the gates of paradise could strike such fear in someone, in an angel no less.

He looked down at the invitation in his hand that he received from Heaven. His name was in big, bold, golden letters on the front that seemed to be reminding him of all his past mistakes and failures.

The invitation requested Lucifer’s presence at the embassy for some kind of meeting. The letter didn’t give any details besides that. That was heaven for you, purposefully blunt to those they turned away.

It hung so heavy in his hands even though it was just a piece of paper. It was the first thing he had heard from Heaven since he had fallen. It should’ve comforted him knowing that Lucifer hadn’t completely been forgotten up in the pearly gates. Then again, his legacy probably hadn’t been talked about too kindly.

He took a deep breath and opened the door to the building. A cool breeze blew past him as he stepped inside. “Hello?” Lucifer asked, holding his cane in front of his legs. His voice echoed as he walked through the lobby. He saw a receptionist desk in front of him that had no one behind it.

“Hello, is anyone here?” He asked, peeking his head around the desk. Lucifer tapped the bell once. There was no response. He rang it again.

A scroll fluttered past him with a flying quill. The scroll had “Please sign in here!” written at the top and a few rows of lines for the visitor to give their signature.

Lucifer raised an eyebrow. “Uh, okay?” He mumbled in confusion, realizing he was only talking to himself. He plucked the flying quill out of the air and used it to sign his name at the bottom. As soon as he finished, the quill popped into a cloud of golden just and the scroll rolled up and flew away.

The golden double doors to his right that led to the conference room slowly creaked open. It was just as dark in there as it was everywhere else in the building. “Hello?” He called out, standing in the doorway. No response. Lucifer continued walking in. “Anyone in h-”

The lights turned on and the doors slammed shut behind him. The sound of the doors coming together was so loud it almost made him jump out of his skin. The room was pretty bland with white walls and a carpeted floor. It had a giant table in it with many chairs on the sides that were empty. At the opposite side of the table, three angels sat on the other side. Both of them wore masks with horns sprouting from the sides and a shining halo above their heads. The man was sitting in a chair with a long white robe that had golden sleeves. The two women stood on either side of him. They both wore black dresses and a serious expression on their faces.

“So this is the famous serpent I’ve been hearing about.” The man said, leaning forward in his chair. Lucifer blinked.

“Uh huh, and who are you?” The king of hell asked, sitting in a chair and placing his cane next to him. The man stiffened and looked a bit offended.

“You don’t know who I am?” He asked. Lucifer shook his head. The man scoffed.

“Maybe this will help you remember.” The man took off his mask to reveal his face. He had tan skin and golden eyes. His brown hair was messy from being under the helmet.

Lucifer raised an eyebrow. “I’m sorry man I still don’t-”

“Adam!” The man blurted out slamming his hands on the table. He sighed and slumped back down in his chair. “The first man, Adam.” He repeated.

“Adam.” Lucifer’s eyes widened. He examined Adam’s face again. It was practically like his son’s face that he had seen so many years ago. He looked at the women by his side. “Wait, does that mean that Eve…” Lucifer asked, looking between the two women

“Oh, no, neither one of them is Eve.” Adam said, pointing at the angels next to him with his thumb. “I haven’t seen that bitch in centuries.”

“Ah.” Lucifer said, unimpressed by Adam. Both of the women remained in their same positions like they were Adam’s bodyguards.

“This is Lute and this is Vaggie.” Adam introduced them, pointing to the left then right. Lucifer mustered a smile. “Nice to meet you ladies.” He said.

The angels said nothing. Lucifer cleared his throat. “Um, so Adam, what is this meeting about exactly?” He asked, leaning forward in his chair.

“Oh right.” Adam shifted in his seat. “We wanna kill a bunch of sinners once a year.”

Lucifer blinked hard. “Excuse me?” He asked, hoping he had misheard the first man. Adam shrugged his shoulders.

“Look, man, it must be exhausting to have to deal with all those sinners. If me and my girls came down like once a year we could…” Adam mimicked a stabbing motion with his hands. “And we would reduce the population by a shit ton.”

Lucifer crossed his arms over his chest and looked at Adam. “Uh huh,” He said, looking the first man up and down. “Who’s idea was this?”

Adam looked back at Vaggie and then looked at Lucifer. “It was Heaven’s, of course.” Adam rolled his wrist. “Well, it was my idea, but Heaven approved it.”

“Hm.” Lucifer said. He leaned forward in his chair. “And what made you think of this idea?”

Adam shrugged his shoulders. “Just think of it as some kind of favor.” He replied, sitting back in his seat.

Lucifer gave the first man a look. “And why would the first man want to do the devil a favor?” He asked bitterly.

It made no sense to Lucifer. Why would a man want to do a favor for his ex wife’s new husband who got him kicked out of paradise. Maybe he was a better person than Lucifer was. Although, based on what he had seen of Adam, he seriously doubted that.

Adam opened his mouth to speak and then closed it like he was trying to come up with another lie. “Adam,” Lucifer said bluntly. “I’m not stupid, what’s the angle here?”

The first man dropped his fake niceness. “Heaven wants to find a way to stop sinners from rising up.” Adam admitted. “I figured slaughtering those little cunts could help that problem.”

“So you came all the way down here to ask for my blessing to kill my people.” Lucifer asked, webbing his fingers together. “Did you really think that was going to work?”

Adam leaned closer down the table. “We figured we could tell you our plan and you could give us the thumbs up.” He said, placing his elbows on the table. “Or you could say no and we kill them anyway and you can’t do anything to stop us.” Adam shrugged. “At least this way it’s on your terms.”

Lucifer opened his mouth to speak and then closed it. Shit. They really had him stuck between a rock and a hard place. It wasn’t like he could just say no to heaven and then watch as he slaughtered everyone around him.

“Alright,” the devil said, crossing his arms. “But I have a few conditions.”

Adam looked at the two angels on either side of him and then looked back at Lucifer. He snapped and Lute pulled out a piece of paper and a quill. “Go ahead.” The first man said.

Lucifer thought back to how felt holding Charlie for the first time. He thought about how he wanted to do everything in his power to protect her. If she had to watch her people get killed, at least she could be safe while doing so.

“No one lays a finger on my family or any hellborn creature.” Lucifer demanded. “No imp, succubus, hellhound, or goetia will be hurt in these little exterminations.”

The first man looked back at his angels with an annoyed look. The girls shared the same expression. He rolled his eyes. “Okay, yeah fine whatever.” Adam replied. “What else?”

“The killings can only happen once a year,” Lucifer continued, crossing his legs and leaning back in his seat. “And you have an hour time limit to kill as many sinners as you want.”

Adam crossed his arms. “You’re such a bummer man, you know that?” He commented. Lute showed him the paper and he waved her away. “Anything else, your highness.” He said ‘your highness’ in the most mocking voice Lucifer had ever heard.

“If any of these rules are broken,” Lucifer added. “I have full rights to step in and destroy your whole army.”

Adam grimaced. “Cool, we done?” Lucifer nodded in response. The scroll and quill in Lute’s hand vanished and then appeared in a puff of smoke in front of him. The king of hell grabbed the quill and sighed his name at the bottom. His signature glowed brightly for a moment and then popped away.

“Well, I’d say it was a pleasure meeting you,” Adam remarked, putting his mask back on. “But I’m not a liar.”

Lucifer stood and grabbed his cane, gripping the top of the apple tightly. “Likewise.” He replied. He turned towards the door and let out a deep sigh. Now he was just going to have to break the news to the rest of hell, and worse, Lilith.

The whole walk back to the palace was grueling. Every step Lucifer took reminded him of his death march to Heaven’s Courtroom all those centuries ago.

Lucifer tried to avoid eye contact with any sinners. As much as these people were a bunch of psychopaths and murderers, they were still people. Was it weird that he was finding the slightest bit of empathy for criminals and serial killers? He tried not to think about that question too much because it messed with his already screwed up head.

His brain ventured to more pressing matters. Lucifer wondered how in the seven rings he was gonna tell Lilith about his meeting with her ex husband. Maybe he shouldn’t mention that he was talking to Adam. He didn’t want to lie to her but he remembered her reaction when she saw Adam’s son, he didn’t want to imagine what would happen if she heard that her former husband and new husband had made a deal together.

Lucifer knew that Lilith cared a great deal for sinners. Why she did was unknown to him, but he tried to not go against her too much.

Lilith finding out that there would be an annual genocide for her people would not be taken lightly by her. He wondered how she would take the news.

Lucifer looked up and realized he was at his own front door. He had stood here many times, but this time it seemed like a dreadful place to be. He knew that Lilith would be on the other side of the door, waiting to hear how the meeting went. Lucifer couldn’t lie to her. He would have to tell her the truth.

He sighed and opened the door to their palace, waiting to break the news to his wife.

A glass cup flew by Lucifer and broke just inches away from his face. He could hear the crack as it hit the wall.

“Extermination?” Lilith snapped at her husband. “Of human souls?”

Lilith did not take the news of Hell’s new events very well, just as Lucifer had predicted. The sin of Pride knew he was going to be right, but this time he wasn’t too happy about it. Her face was beat red and she was fuming. She reached for another glass and gripped it angrily in her hand.

“Look, I know you’re upset,” Lucifer began, putting his hands up in defense. “Upset?” Lilith questioned. “Upset was when you were late to Charlie’s birthday party. This is a new level of anger you’ve never fucking seen before.” She chucked the glass against the wall as shards of it fell all over the floor.

Lucifer sighed deeply. “Lil, they had me backed up against a wall,” He explained. “There was nothing I could do.” He hoped that would calm her down, but it only seemed to piss her off more.

Lilith raised an eyebrow. “There was nothing you could do?” She repeated furiously. “Is now seriously the time you decide to play by the rules?” She straightened up and it seemed like her anger turned to hurt. “You’ve broken rules your whole life and found ways out of every loophole. But when it comes to the people of your kingdom, you suddenly decide that you’re not going to bend the rules a bit.”

“Lilith.” Lucifer said sternly. “This is different.” She crossed her arms over her chest, looking down at him. “Then explain to me how it’s different.” She demanded. “Is it because it’s not for your own gain?”

Lucifer flared his nostrils. “You think I do everything for my own gain?” He asked, angrily. “I got banished from Heaven, kicked out of the only home I’ve ever known, because I helped you.”

Lilith raised an eyebrow at him. “I built this whole kingdom so people who were like you and me would have a place to go,” He continued. “I did everything for you, Lilith.”

“You didn't have to do any of that Lucifer. You could’ve stayed in heaven with your perfect life instead of coming down to Earth.” She reminded him, getting closer to him. “Never once did I ask you to do any of that for me.”

“You didn’t have to.” Lucifer replied, raising his voice louder. “Then why?” Lilith asked her husband. “Why did you do it?”

“Because I love you.” He told her, getting closer. Lilith backed up a little. She looked out the window in their palace that overlooked Pentagram city. “What about them?” She asked, extending her arm out to the window and getting his face. “Don’t you love the people of your kingdom.”

Lucifer looked out the window. He was chaos and destruction outside. He turned back towards his wife. “Those people are killers and criminals.” He told her, walking closer to her. “Maybe killing them wouldn’t be such a bad idea.”

Lilith straightened up so she was noticeably taller than her husband. “And who is responsible for making them that way?”

Lucifer’s mouth felt dry as he looked up at his wife. “That’s not fair, Lilith.” He said bitterly. “I gave them free will and this is what they decided to do with it.”

“I used my free will too and I decided to rebel against my husband and love you instead.” Lilith reminded him. “I’m a sinner just like all of them out there.”

Lucifer swallowed hard and then sighed. He closed his eyes as he tried to come up with an explanation. “Lilith.” He said, then he looked back at her. “That’s different and you know that.”

“How?” She asked. “How is that different? I’m just like the rest of them, aren’t I? Do I deserve to die too?” Lucifer stood on his tippy toes to try and get eye level with her.

“But you won’t die, Lilith.” He told her. “I made the deal with Adam so that you, Charlie, and any other hellborns wouldn’t be hurt during the extermination.” He tensed up when he realized what name he had let slip through his mouth.

Lilith tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows. “Adam?” She asked. “As in the first man Adam?” Oops. Lucifer had conveniently left that part out earlier in the conversation..

“Heaven sent Adam down to negotiate the terms of the extermination with me.” Lucifer tried to explain calmly. Lilith’s anger seemed to be growing more and more with every passing second.

“You made a deal with Adam?” She demanded furiously. “You let the worst man I have ever met talk you into a mass genocide!”

“He wanted to do it to keep Hell from rising up.” Lucifer explained, angrily. “Like I said, they backed me into a corner. I had no way out, they were doing this no matter what I said. I wanted to at least make sure the people I cared about stayed safe.”

Lilith scoffed. “What about the people I care about?” She demanded. “Are you forgetting that human souls are being slaughtered by supposedly virtuous angels?”

“Lilith I told you,” Lucifer barked angrily. He felt anger boiling up inside of him. His horns slowly grew on top of his head and his eyes were glowing red. “I had no control-”

“Daddy?” A small voice said from behind him. Lucifer turned to see his young daughter looking up at him. She was dressed in a red nightgown and her soft blonde hair flowed down her back.

“Charlie, I-” Lucifer began before his wife cut him off. “Charlie,” Lilith scolded, walking over to their daughter and scooping her up in her arms. “Didn’t Mommy tell you that you needed to be in bed.”

“I’m sorry,” Charlie apologized, before looking at her father over Lilith’s shoulder. “I just wanted to see Daddy before I went to sleep.”

Lucifer reached his arms out for his daughter. Lilith pulled back and pressed Charlie’s head against her chest. She gave her husband a nasty look before looking sweetly down at their daughter. “Honey, you’ve seen Daddy, now it’s bedtime.”

Charlie looked up at her dad. Lucifer reached out for her. “Lilith-” Lilith turned her back away from her husband. “Not now, Lucifer.” She snapped at him, looking over her shoulder. Charlie blinked hard, examining her father and then waving to him.

Lilith walked away with their daughter looking sadly back at her father, leaving Lucifer alone in the dark.

Chapter Text

The Hazbin Hotel had become almost like home for Lucifer. It had only been a few weeks since the extermination and he had offered to move in to help with chores and make sure the place didn’t go to chaos. Something about having the devil around kept people in check. If you had told him just a few months ago that he would find community and felt safe in a building filled with sinners, he would’ve laughed in your face. But here he stood, in the middle of his daughter’s hotel that stood for her dream of redeeming the unredeemable, washing dishes next to another fallen angel.

Vaggie stood next to him, helping scrub away at dishes they had eaten off of during dinner time. Lucifer placed one scrubbed clean dish in the dishwasher and then looked over to her.

Lucifer remembered seeing that girl all those years ago in Heaven’s embassy. She didn’t say a word the whole meeting, she just stood there like a soldier waiting for her next command. It was like she was barely her own person, and under the control of Adam, she probably wasn’t. Looking at her, it was hard to see the same angel he was all those years ago. In fact, when he met her again as his daughter’s girlfriend, he was so sure it wasn’t her that he called her by the wrong name. She had changed. Maybe Charlie’s idea of redemption wasn’t as ridiculous as he had thought.

Vaggie picked up another dish and placed it in the dishwasher. She turned the knob on the sink and the water stopped spilling out. “I think that’s all of the dishes, sir.” She told him, kicking the dishwasher closed with her foot. “Thank you for your help.” Lucifer smiled.

“Of course, I used just as many dishes as anyone else, happy to help.” He replied. Vaggie returned the smile.

“Dad! Vaggie!” Charlie called the two of them over from the lobby’s couch. Her arm waved excitedly beckoning them to come over. “Niffty is putting on another one of her roach puppet shows.”

He heard Vaggie laugh a bit under her breath. “Coming, babe.” She told her girlfriend, walking over to join her on the couch. Lucifer turned to join them when he realized he had forgotten something. He was placed back to the counter by the sink. His wedding ring was sitting there.

Lucifer hadn’t taken his wedding ring off since he had gotten it. Even through all of their fights, through all their sleepless nights, and through their divorce, he had kept the wedding ring on to give him a bit of hope. Whenever he got anxious or upset, which was often, he would always fiddle with his wedding band to ground himself a bit. It would always bring him back to a time where things were better.

He had taken it off to do the dishes because he didn’t want to accidentally wash it down the drain. He picked it up off the counter and held it in the palm of his hand. It was so tiny but it felt like so much pressure in his hand. All of his love for Lilith was held in that tiny piece of gold because it couldn’t be given to her. He sighed.

“Dad, are you coming?” Charlie asked, leaning over the couch. Lucifer smiled back at his daughter. “Yeah, coming Char.” He replied. He slipped his ring back on his finger and walked over to the couch to watch the show. He picked up his cane and used it to walk. He didn’t really need it anymore but it still gave him a sense of stability whenever he had it with him. It was still also one of the last material things that Lucifer still had from his wife so he always wanted to keep it close to him.

Lucifer had grown quite fond of the sinners in the hotel. He sat down in between Charlie and one of the hotel residents named, Angel Dust.

Angel was definitely a character. Lucifer had heard his name in passing by as the great and famous porn star. Everyone in all of the seven rings had heard his name. In fact, Ozzie might have mentioned him once or twice in conversation. Angel had been a little flirty with the king of Hell every once in a while, which Charlie assured him he was like that with everyone. Angel was quite funny, despite what some other people thought, and Lucifer had to admit he laughed at one or two of the spider’s crude jokes before. Angel kicked his legs over to Husk’s lap to give Lucifer a place to sit.

“Oops.” Angel apologized. “Sorry about that, your highness.” Lucifer smiled. “Oh no it’s fine.”

Husk rested his elbows on Angel’s legs. “Have you ever thought about putting your legs on the floor, spidey?”

Angel smirked and rested an elbow on the cat’s shoulder. “Don’t act like you don’t like me all over you.” He replied in a flirty tone. Husk rolled his eyes with a smile and put his arm around Angel.

“Hush you two,” Cherri Bomb said in her thick Australian accent. “The show’s starting.”

In the corner of the room, Lucifer saw Alastor turn the lights off. He hated to admit it, but he didn’t hate the smiling red freak as much as he used to. Especially now that Lucifer could be there to make sure the radio demon didn’t get too close to his daughter.

One of the surviving Egg Boiz, who Lucifer believed his name was Frank, sat next to Lucifer’s foot and looked eager to watch the show.

Niffty scurried in front of her audience and put a miniature stage down in front of them. She grabbed a desk lamp and set it down next to the stage. She flicked the light on and used it as a spotlight for her show. She cleared her throat and began her play.

Niffty held up one dead bug that had a flower on its back and held up another that had its back painted red. Lucifer had grown accustomed to seeing her walk around with various dead insects. “Hey, give me your purse lady.” Niffty said in a deep voice, moving the red painted bug. “Oh no, someone please save me!” She said in a pitched voice, moving the other bug. The whole audience leaned forward in their seats in anticipation of what was going to happen next.

“I’ll save you!” She said in another deep voice. Niffty picked up another bug corpse that was painted blue. She smashed the two bugs together violently while screaming “Die! Die! Die!” She threw the red bug on the floor.

“My knight in shining armor.” She said as the flowery bug. “No I’m a bad boy, I’m here to kill you too.” Niffty said, shaking the blue bug. She smashed the bugs together again. “Die! Die! Die!” She screamed while manically cackling. She threw both the bugs on the floor and looked up smiling at the audience. “The end.”

The audience slowly clapped as Alastor flicked the lights on. “Well,” Charlie said in a disturbed tone. “At least she’s using bugs and not real people.”

“Uh, great job Niffty.” Lucifer told her, partially because he didn’t want to suffer the same fate as one of her insect actors.

“Thank you!” Niffty giggled and jumped up on the couch in between Charlie and Lucifer. She reached into her pocket and pulled out another dead bug that was bigger than the rest. “I got this for you.”

“Oh, wow.” Lucifer said in shock. He picked the bug out of her hand and placed it in his own hand. “Thanks, Niffty, I’ll make sure to keep it safe.” He placed the bug in his pocket.

Niffty giggled manically before jumping off the couch and scurrying off somewhere else.

“I think Niffty likes you, Dad.” Charlie pointed out, playfully elbowing her father.

“You think?” Husk scoffed with a smile. “The other day I saw her at the bar writing fanfiction about her and the ultimate bad boy. Anyone wanna take a guess who it is?”

Lucifer chuckled uncomfortably while grinning. “Well, they say all press is good press.” Vaggie smiled. “Don’t worry sir, we’ll get a new guest and she’ll be head over heels for him.”

“Here’s hoping.” He remarked while shrugging his shoulders. Lucifer felt relaxed in this hotel. It was funny to him. He never thought he would feel calm and safe in a room full of sinners. People who had killed and stole were now the ones who he felt safe around. After being by himself for so long, any form of human connection made him feel comforted. His opinion of sinners had changed so much from when he met the first one.

Lucifer had been sitting in his seat, spacing out for so long that he hadn’t realized everyone else around him and got up from their seats and walked elsewhere nor did he realize KeeKee had curled up in his lap and fallen asleep. “Dad?” Charlie asked, leaning against the side of the couch. She looked at her father the same way she did all those years ago when he held her for the first time as an infant. How precious she still was to him. “Yeah, Char, what’s up?” He asked, straightening up in his seat.

“Can I take a seat?” She asked, glancing at the couch cushion beside him. “Oh yeah of course!” He said, scooting over and patting the spot beside him with his hand. “Have a seat.”

Charlie slipped over and sat down next to her father. She sat up tall, being at least a good foot taller than her dad. She had been since was thirteen years old but it never bothered Lucifer much. It was just another reminder of how grown she was.

“I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for being so helpful with the hotel.” She told him with a kind expression on her face that she always wore. She looked down and started rambling. “I know how you feel about sinners and-”

Lucifer placed his hand over hers before she could finish her sentence. “Charlie.” He said sweetly. She looked back up at him. “How I used to feel about sinners. You’ve changed my mind, I’m looking at everything in a whole new light because of you.”

The princess of Hell knitted her eyebrows and smiled. “You really mean that?” She asked with a hint of pride in her voice. Like father, like daughter.

Lucifer nodded. “I really do.” He gently squeezed her hand. “You know they say you can’t change an old man’s mind.” He smiled to himself. “But I guess you’ve never been one for caring what other people say.”

Charlie nodded. “Still, you have been great with the guests and staff,” She told him. “I mean Niffty adores you, as we’ve seen from her little present she gave you earlier.”

Lucifer smiled and rolled his eyes. He reached into his pocket and picked out the dead roach the little janitor had given him. “I’m sure I can find a place for him in my duck collection.” He remarked. Charlie giggled as he placed the bug back into his pocket.

“And I’m pretty sure you’re the only person in the whole hotel that Husk doesn’t mind making a drink for.” She added, looking over to the bar where Husk was pouring a drink for Angel, Cherri, and Vaggie. Lucifer shrugged. “That’s probably because I usually only ask him for a glass and the whole bottle of whiskey.”

“Dad,” Charlie said, with a more serious look on her face. She looked so much like her mother at that moment. “Don’t discount yourself, people really like you.” She sighed. “After Sir Pentious’s death…” Charlie trailed off.

Lucifer thought about the serpent who had died at Adam’s hand during the battle. He glanced over at the wall that had Sir Pentious’s portrait that hung over top of the staircase. It featured the snake sitting nobly with a few of his egg boiz, who had also died in the extermination. He placed his hand on Charlie’s shoulder to comfort her. “He didn’t die in vain, Char, we won against Heaven.”

“I know,” She said with a shrug. “But I still miss him a lot. I know we all do.” Charlie’s eyes drifted towards Cherri who was sitting at the bar, laughing with her friends.

Lucifer thought about how much Charlie cared about sinners. She treated them as if they were her own family. She loved the unlovable and cared for everyone who walked through her door. Charlie might have gotten Lucifer’s looks, but she definitely got her mother's heart.

“Your mother would be really proud of you, Char.” Lucifer told his daughter. She smiled. “Thanks, dad.”

There was a knock at the door. Charlie started to stand up to answer it until Vaggie jumped out of her seat. “I got it!” She called out, walking over to the door. She smiled at the Morningstars sitting on the couch as she strolled past them.

Charlie looked back at her father and sighed. “I miss her, Dad.” Lucifer nodded in agreement. “I know,” he replied. “I do too, Char.”

“Charlie! You need to get over here now!” Vaggie called out from out of view of their view.

“What is it, Vaggie?” Charlie asked, trying to peek her head around from her seat.

“Just come here, now.” Vaggie replied, her voice sounding shocked. Lucifer and Charlie looked at each other confused and stood up from their seats. They walked over to the door to see what Vaggie was talking about.

“Vaggie, what is-” Charlie began before seeing who was standing at the doors. Her eyes widened alongside her fathers.

Lilith stood in the doorway. Her long, blonde hair swayed in the wind around her figure. Her pale skin glowed in the moonlight as her purple eyes looked between her husband and her daughter.

“Mom.” Charlie said weakly, sounding like a little kid. She stood by her father completely motionless. Lucifer felt his legs shaking as he looked up at his wife wide eyed.

She was here. She was really here.

“Charlie.” Lilith said looking at her daughter and her eyes drifted to her husband with tears in them. “Lucifer.”

A wave of pain fell over him. He missed Lilith so much. Now he could see her right in front of him. She was just in his reach. Lucifer couldn’t help it, he ran over to Lilith and wrapped his arms around her.

Lilith returned the gesture and held Lucifer tight. They both fell to their knees. He heard footsteps behind him and saw Charlie kneel down beside them. “Momma.” She said, with tears in her eyes as she looked at her mother. Charlie seemed to miss her more than she let on.

Lucifer and Lilith immediately wrapped their arms around her and they held each other close. They were back together again.

For good.
