Chapter 1: ACT I

Chapter Text

INT. SALVATORE BOARDING SCHOOL - DAY

It’s been weeks since HOPE MIKAELSON has gotten her humanity back and Caroline took over being headmistress. Everything felt...fine? Except, something is still felt off. A little too off for Hope’s own comfort. It’s like a piece of her is missing. Not just figuratively, either. A piece of her is literally missing.

INT. LIZZIE SALTZMAN’S DORM - CONTINUOUS

Hope knocks on LIZZIE SALTZMAN’S door.

HOPE

Hey, Lizzie. Can I talk to you?

LIZZIE

If you want to talk about how much

you miss Frodo, I don’t want to

hear it.

HOPE

(laughs)

It’s not that this time. Please?

LIZZIE

Alright, have a seat.

Hope sits down on Lizzie’s bed, brushing her hands against her jeans.

HOPE

Lizzie cuts Hope off.

LIZZIE

You’ve been feeling empty, haven’t

you? Like a piece of you is missing and now you want my help figuring

out what that missing part is.

HOPE

How did

Lizzie cuts her off again.

2.

LIZZIE

It’s written all over your face.

HOPE

Look. Can you help me?

LIZZIE

I can. But the answer is already

obvious.

HOPE

What?

LIZZIE

You miss your...ex?

HOPE

I’d call him my ex at this point.

LIZZIE

There. That emptiness you feel is

Frodo....I mean, Landon.

HOPE

(shakes head)

No, it isn’t Landon this time.

LIZZIE

What is it then?

HOPE

If I knew, don’t you think I  wouldn’t have asked?

LIZZIE

Well I’m not a mind reader, Hope.

Hope sighs.

HOPE

Look. When I say I feel “empty,” I

don’t mean sad or lonely. It’s like a piece of me is actively missing.

Like.

LIZZIE

It sounds like you’re saying a

a piece of your soul is missing.

HOPE

Do you know the red string theory?

LIZZIE

Of course

3.

HOPE

It’s like someone severed the

string.

LIZZIE

What?

HOPE

I’ve also been having these dreams.

And they really freak me out.

LIZZIE

What kind of dreams?

HOPE

A faceless woman wearing a yellow  dress falling off of a hilltop  nto a bush of....

Lizzie pauses before cutting Hope off.

LIZZIE

White roses?

HOPE

How did you know?

LIZZIE

Because Josie called me and said  She's been having the same dreams.

Lizzie grabs her phone and dials JOSIE SALTZMAN.

INT. JOSIE SALTZMAN’S DORM - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT Josie is sound asleep when her phone rings.

JOSIE

(sleepily)

Hello?

LIZZIE (O.S.)

Hey, Josie. Sorry to wake you.

JOSIE

Lizzie, I was sleeping.

LIZZIE (O.S)

Yeah I know, but Hope needs to tell

you something.

HOPE (O.S.)

What!?

4.

Josie can hear Lizzie shove the phone into Hope’s hand.

INT. LIZZIE SALTZMAN'S DORM - CONTINUOUS

HOPE

Ummm hello.

JOSIE (O.S.)

Hope, what’s wrong?

HOPE

Sorry Lizzie bothered you, it’s

nothing.

JOSIE (O.S.)

It’s obviously not nothing. What is it? Do you miss Landon?

HOPE

It isn’t about Landon.

JOSIE (O.S.)

You’ve been having them too,  haven’t you? The dreams.

HOPE

How did you know?

JOSIE (O.S.)

It’s why I haven’t been getting

much sleep. I’ve been having them too.

HOPE

How often?

JOSIE (O.S.)

Every night. I was hoping tonight would be different.

HOPE

I’ve also been feeling

JOSIE (O.S.)

Empty?

HOPE

(sighs)

Yeah, empty..

JOSIE (O.S.)

Well, maybe you miss Landon.

5.

HOPE

No, like I said, it has nothing to  do with Landon this time. I loved

him, truly and wholeheartedly. But, this is different. It’s like my  the soul is missing.

JOSIE (O.S.)

Well, you’d be dead wouldn’t you?  If your soul was missing.

Hope laughs and her body starts to relax as she leans against Lizzie’s bed.

HOPE

Okay now, smart ass.

JOSIE (O.S.)

That sounds like the first time

you’ve laughed in a while.

HOPE

Yeah, well, you made me laugh.

JOSIE (O.S.)

I’m happy to be the one to make you

laugh, Hope.

HOPE

These dreams, they don’t mean

anything, right?

JOSIE (O.S.)

I mean. I don’t know..

HOPE

They’re just dreams, aren’t they?

JOSIE (O.S.)

Sometimes things that seem like

they’re “just dreams,” are more

than that.

HOPE

They feel like a warning.

JOSIE (O.S.)

Yeah, like who’s in the yellow

dress?

HOPE

Why is she faceless?

6.

JOSIE (O.S.)

Why white roses?

HOPE

And what caused all of this to

happen?

JOSIE (O.S.)

I’m flying back to Mystic Falls

tomorrow morning.

HOPE

Wait, what?

JOSIE (O.S.)

Look, we both know these dreams

aren’t normal. We’re both feeling

empty. There is something linking

us and I want to know what it is.

HOPE

Do you think your mom might have

answers?

JOSIE (O.S.)

I don’t know, Hope. I don’t know if

I have an answer for that. But what

we can do is try to figure it out.

Okay?

HOPE

Okay.

FADE OUT.

7.

ACT I: SCENE II

FADE IN:

INT. MYSTIC FALLS AIRPORT - AFTERNOON

Hope is at the baggage claim waiting for Josie to return from Belgium. She taps her feet and looks around. And suddenly, she sees Josie coming down the escalator.

HOPE

Josie!

Hope runs over and practically tackles Josie, the two nearly falling.

JOSIE

(laughs)

Whoa! Hey there! Did you miss me

that badly?

Hope laughs and sighs as she pulls away. The two of them making intense eye contact.

HOPE

Sorry, I don’t know what came over

  1.

JOSIE

It’s okay, Hope. Help me get my

bags and we can talk on the drive

to the school.

Hope and Josie head to the moving baggage claim and grab Josie’s bags. The two leave the airport and head into Hope’s car.

INT. HOPE’S CAR - CONTINUOUS

HOPE

How was your flight?

JOSIE

It was good, I am a bit tired

though.

HOPE

I can make you some of my mom’s

soup if you want.

8.

JOSIE

No, it’s okay. I want to jump into

solving this link.

Hope nods and is driving when her brain starts to fuzz and a vision of Josie on the ground dying appears in her brain, sounds of herself screaming in the background. The sound of a car horn pulls her back to reality.

JOSIE (CONT’D)

Hope!

Hope gasps and blinks, pulling to the curb of a nearby gas station.

JOSIE (CONT’D)

Hey, are you okay? What happened?

Hope turns her head and gently cups Josie’s face with her hands.

JOSIE (CONT’D)

Whoa, what’s wrong?

HOPE

Are you alive?

JOSIE

What? Yes, of course I am.

HOPE

(sighs)

Sorry, Jo. I just had this weird

vision in my head.

JOSIE

Was it me dying?

Hope becomes quiet.

JOSIE (CONT’D)

I know, Hope. I’ve been having

those visions too.

HOPE

Come on, we need to talk to your

mom.

JOSIE

Wait. You need to get your mind

clear before you drive again, okay?

Let me drive.

9.

HOPE

Are you sure?

JOSIE

You’re clearly shaken up. Let me

drive and when we get to the

school, we can talk to my mom. It

won’t be safe if you’re so shaken

up and something happens.

HOPE

You’re right.

INT. SALVATORE BOARDING SCHOOL - CONTINUOUS-EVENING

Josie pulls up to Salvatore Boarding School and unloads all of her bags. She enters the school and is greeted by Lizzie.

LIZZIE

Hey, Josie!

JOSIE

Hi Lizzie, I’ve missed you.

CAROLINE FORBES-SALVATORE, the twins mother, greets Josie as well.

CAROLINE

Hi baby.

JOSIE

Hi mom.

HOPE

Headmistress Forbes-Salvatore, we need your help.

CAROLINE

What’s the matter?

HOPE

Josie and I. We keep having these dreams and these visions. It’s like we’re connected in some way.

CAROLINE

Really? That’s rather odd. Perhaps Freya can be of more help though.

HOPE

I’ll call my aunt Freya.
