Chapter Text

It had been thousands of years since the time of the Ninja.

The world has suffered significantly ever since.

What once were beautiful kingdoms and cities filled with the sounds of people from around the Realms.

Now nothing left remains…

But silence…

Ashes fill the skies as the valleys hold tales of broken down buildings and ruins of whatever remained.

When the Green Ninja passed. It seemed so did Life itself…

It is rare to see any signs of life at this point…

But hope is never lost…

For one still remains…

In a City named ‘Zion’ filled with technology, a shield guarding the city walls to protect the inhabitants inside.

The last known civilization…

Facilitated by the last Ninja.

Zane Julien. The Ninja of Ice.

Chapter Text

The sound of gravel crunched against her feet, harsh dusty winds rushed past her metallic hair as it howled audibly against the silent wasteland. Darkened skies and the lack of life is all that surrounding her sides as she scanned the area.

As always there was nothing to find, no traces of any living being…

It had been thousands of years since the dawn of the Ninja, thousands of years since the fall of the Green Ninja.

With the death of the Master of Life so did everything resembling life go with him. As if he were connected to the world itself. Of course, she knew it wasn't entirely accurate, but she can admit the timing made it seem plausible.

The world was silent outside the metallic walls of Ninjago, with only the howling winds to accompany her. In three hours she will end her quest, then reconvene when she's assigned to scan the area once more. She does not understand this mission, why The Grand Master would even waste his efforts looking for something that ceased existence long ago…

Nevertheless, it's her job and she'd rather not give her father grievances any longer…

She took another scan in the empty wasteland that was once bustling with life, evidenced by the torn rubble and stone remains of what was once a city, buildings collapsed unto one another, ice that should've melted thousands of years ago still remain…possibly because of the cold temperatures despite the dusty and ashy terrain.

Occasionally she'd collect artifacts from these ruined cities…remnants of old technology, anything related to Cyrus Borg, or just strange tools they used to utilize that she was not familiar with. At least she can bring something back for her father and at least the higher ups allow this since The Grand Master seemed intrigued by this old technology.

It was childish, but it was worth seeing her father smile…

As hours passed by, she saw no progress in her mission, then saw no point as her time outside the walls was up.

She packed her things and began to leave…

The thrusters on her boots boomed as she began to thrust herself upwards towards the grey sky, spotting the huge city in the distance, she flew towards her destination.

“Mission Report: How's the progress Agent 3400?” Her supervisor' s voice rang against her ear, the in-built speaker in her robotic head proving useful for missions like these. “No signs of change Sir Garmadon, as always no signs of life.” She responded as she rushed back to the city. “Heading back to the city now.”

“Copy, while you're at it, maybe we can hang out sometime.” She heard his faint chuckle, unfazed by his words she responded. “May I remind you how inappropriate it is flirting the Grand Master's daughter look, Sir Garmadon?”

She heard a playful yet nervous laugh. “Please don't call it flirting.”

She arrived at the back entrance of the city, industrial doors whirring open with a hiss. She pushed through the dark cave, walls covered in nothing but metal and dim blue lights representing the only power of the city. She landed on the metal ground, footsteps thumping against her own metallic feet. The soft hum of the city greeted her home.

“Hi Dad” she spoke to no one, however she knew The Grand Master would hear her regardless if she was near the Core or not.

The doors within opened for her as she stretched her arms to loosen her limbs. Granted she did not have the requirements of a human, but her father always told her that it didn't hurt to act like a human every once in a while. Upon her arrival, her supervisor greeted her, a genius human around the same age as her, but also the only competent human in the City…honestly that's the only reason he ranked up to supervisor so quickly.

She greeted him with a bow as he held the cybernetic screenpad in his hand. “Again, not flirting.” He continued their conversation where they left off, leaving her to chuckle. “Denying it makes you even more suspicious.” She joked much to her friend's dismay. “Come on! Just because you're a robot doesn't mean you can't have fun! Doesn't your dad have hobbies?”

They walked into the lobby, filled with holographic screens and people rushing off to their jobs in whatever job they applied for. Today was a busy day, dozens of people calling friends and families about their plans or updating them on what was happening.

She liked this place, for once unlike the dark and gloomy exterior of the city beyond the walls, the interior was a beautiful snow white, reflecting everything this city was supposed to protect.

‘Protect those who cannot protect themselves’ her father told her, it seemed fitting that the city inspire their architecture after his image. After all he had done so much already…

They walked towards the main office area, the one filled with multiple desks, screens, agents and one huge window-screen playing an image of the outside world. In the middle was the main director of the Life Project, Mini Pix: Agent 0007, Kozen.

He blinked and turned back, seeing her back in the Dome. “Agent 3400, I'm guessing no progress as usual?” He asks, his eyes were sympathetic, honestly in her opinion his robotic design was more close to her dad, more human than robot.

She shook her head in response. “I'd suggest going further but we already lost a few agents going too far from the city.” She soon walked towards him standing beside him. To others this could be a sign of Nepotism, because she's the daughter of the Grand Master, it's Their Director that has to respect her instead of the other way around.

The real reason is because despite how intimidating he perceives himself, Agent Kozen was never one for formalities.

He hummed as he analyzed the wasteland on the screen, fallen cities of ancient civilizations never bothered to be clear. Mostly because the Ice consumes them the moment they even think of such a thing. It's a waste though…letting something like that stay outside…

But then again what's the point? The oxygen outside is too toxic for life to even grow…the temperature, too cold and even then the lands are filled with ash and dust leftover from the wars that it's impossible to even find good soil.

“I don't understand why the Grand Master insists there's hope out there” Agent Kozen spoke, “If anything the outside world is uninhabitable”

She shrugged in response. “You know my father…he can be quite prophetic.” She responded, even if she too began to doubt this dream. This belief that there still remains a spark of life. Kozen sighed. “Then I suppose we should maximize our efforts, The Grand Master's will is the will of the Heavens after all.”

She nodded and left, understanding that he was going to be busy…

The city outside seemed nothing like the world beyond the walls. It's like something you'd see in a sci-fi movie.

Ivory and Quartz Buildings filled the streets as blue lights glowed across skylines, walls, windows and much much more. Vehicles were less required in the streets as the roads were replaced by moving walkways, lowering cases of accidents.

She stood still on the running walkway, letting herself relax after a long day at work, multiple people passing by her salute or bow in respect…honestly the salute is overkill for regular citizens. She's since memorized the very route to take to get to the core faster. Every turn and stop she had to take.

She could've flown of course, but that has since been made illegal for ‘ecological purposes’

And because the sky above is holographic and the glass that helps it be stable doesn't do well with smoke.

Eventually she got to her home, which is quite literally at the center of the city; The Core.

Here is where the Grand Master lives…here is where the electricity of the whole city is powered.

And here is where the last Ninja lives…

She opened the door into the humble home built unto the walls of the core…one would call it a safety hazard were it not for who was powering the core. In the interior of the glowing ball in the middle of the room, kept away by balconies and control panels for safety reasons was a man, robotic in nature.

Metallic skin sculpted his humanoid face, silver hair with strands that acted almost human. His chest opened with dozens of wires connected to him, wrapped around his limbs and what remains of his upper body. The bright blue glow illuminated his eye from his half-scarred face. What was left of the face anyway…

The humanoid eye blinked, recognizing she was home.

“Hello, Eva…” his voice reverberated across the walls, a soft smile etched his face as he greeted her. “Hi Dad” she replied, stretching her arms once more. “Long day at work I see?” The joy in her father's voice never failed to leave him, it made her feel envious how human her father could be compared to her…she sat down in front of the control panel. “No updates again, sorry.”

Her father’s eyes softened. “It is quite alright…at least no damage was done to you”

She smiled, her father can be sweet.

She typed in some commands and ran a diagnostic test…sure she could refrain from doing this daily, but just as her father loved her, so did she love him…and with her being the only family he has left ever since the end of the Ninja…

The Ninja…

Fabled heroes that maintained the balance of the Merged Lands…

It is no surprise her father was one of these heroes from all those years ago…

Zane Julien, The Ice Ninja…and the last one in existence…

It is imperative that his safety is secured…

“Do you want coffee?” He asked, she heard a soft pinging sound behind her as her father started the coffee machine. Being connected to the Core, he has a lot of remote access towards any technology that needs electricity…which is almost everything. “Why ask if you're just gonna make it anyway?” Eva teased, though she didn't mind.

“What if I wanted one too?” Her father responded with the same teasing energy, earning a chuckle from her. “You know you can't, a bit dangerous to put liquid too close to you”

He ended up laughing this time…

“But seriously Dad, you don't have to…” she spoke, hearing the ping of the coffee being finished. She heard a soft chuckle. “I know…”

“Just let me have this…”
