Work Text:
“Are you sure you can’t make it tomorrow?”
“Yeah, sorry, I promised Celia I could go have dinner with her and Jack” Said Sam.
Alice knew she should’ve asked before, but she had been too busy to remember Luke’s concert the following night, and now she had two tickets and no one to go with. It’s not like she had many options either way, but she still had hoped Sam had nothing planned for their free day. She would go alone, as she did most of the time. Still, if only…
“You could ask Gwen” Suggested Sam, bringing her back to the conversation. Luckily Sam was typing in the computer, and he couldn’t see the faint blush on her cheeks when he had mentioned their co-worker. Alice would be lying if she said she hadn’t thought of it, but just thinking about having to go up to her and ask made her too nervous to even try.
”Gwen? Are we thinking of the same person? She wouldn’t even enjoy it”
“What is it I wouldn’t enjoy?” Gwen said suddenly.
Alice turned to Sam, but he kept working, leaving her to explain what they were talking about. She was going to kill him.
”I have an extra ticket for a concert, and Sam can’t go. I was going to ask you but it’s my brother’s band, and I don’t know if you would even like them…”
“When is it?” Gwen asked, sounding genuinely curious.
“It’s tomorrow, so if you have plans already or something…”
“I’m free, so if you want I can go with you” said Gwen, but she didn’t let Alice reply as she continued talking “I have to go finish some paperwork for Lena now, but I’ll text you later”
As Gwen was leaving the room Alice turned to Sam, who was clearly laughing at the whole situation. She was definitely going to kill him.
…
In the end Alice had agreed to pick up Gwen to go there, as it would be easier to park only one car. She was now at her door, feeling more nervous than she should have. After all, she was just going out with a co-worker she saw every day. Even then, her hands were shaking a bit when she knocked again.
”Sorry, I need to pick up my purse and we can go” said Gwen while she opened the door, and ran back to another room. Alice looked around her house, which was as organised as she had expected coming from her. She had some family pictures, but not many. In some of them, appeared who she assumed were Gwen’s parents, and another man that could be the uncle she had mentioned at work, the one with a name starting with E, but that she didn’t remember.
“I’m ready to leave” said Gwen, coming back to where Alice was standing.
Alice turned to reply, but as she looked at her she forgot what she was going to say. She didn’t know what she was expecting Gwen to be wearing for the night, but it definitely wasn’t what she was seeing at the moment. She was so used to the formal clothes she wore to work, that she hadn’t even thought of her dressed in anything else. Gwen was wearing a dark top, with a skirt a lot shorter than the ones she usually wore to the office. She also had fishnet stockings on, and heels that made her as tall as her. Alice wished she had chosen something less basic than the band T-shirt and ripped jeans she was wearing. She met Gwen’s eyes and she was sure she was blushing, so she turned to open the door to avoid being more embarrassed.
…
Once they arrived to the concert, it was already full of people waiting for it to start. Alice was already used to this, but Gwen stopped at the door, seeming unsure on what to do. Without thinking, Alice took Gwen’s hand to lead her further into the crowd, so they could get a better view. She walked through the people until they found a place to stand where they could see the stage while avoiding the centre of the room.
Soon the band started playing, and time passed fast between songs. Some people next to them started pushing by the end, which made Gwen almost fall. Alice caught her, her hands landing on the bare skin between her top and skirt. She was glad Gwen couldn't see her face, as she was sure it must have looked embarrassing red. What she didn’t expect was for the other girl to not move away as soon as she was back on her feet. Gwen even moved closer, not commenting on the hand that was still on her waist. They stayed like that until the concert finished and they had to go back to the car.
“I should’ve worn a jacket” Gwen said when they were back on the street.
“Your outfit looks great though,” said Alice. She could've sworn Gwen was blushing, but she quickly continued talking to avoid making things awkward. “You can put on my sweater if you want”
Gwen reached for it, and as she took it their fingers brushed. She was definitely blushing now. Alice realised she had been staring and looked away, definitely not thinking about the way her clothes looked on the girl next to her.
“Wait”
Alice stopped suddenly. The walk to the car had been quiet, except for a couple of comments about the concert. She had mostly been trying to keep Gwen out of her head, which had been impossible thanks to their hands brushing several times while going back. It also didn’t help that Gwen was now looking at her, clearly flushed. Before she could ask why they had stopped, she continued talking.
“I just” she paused again, trying to think about how to continue. “I’ve wanted to kiss you all night. I don’t want to make things weird between us but… ”
Alice didn’t let her finish, as she closed the distance between them and kissed her. Gwen was surprised at first, but that didn’t last long, as she kissed her back. She put her hands on the back of Alice’s neck, while the other girl pulled her closer by the waist.
Once they had to pull away, they both started laughing. They were still holding each other, not trying to let go.
“Do you want to stay over at my place tonight?” Alice suggested when they were back in her car.
“Sure” said Gwen, before kissing her softly again.
