Leon sat at a table, obscured by the shade of the umbrella hanging above it, eyeing the ruckus caused by the over enthusiastic soldiers of the BSAA.
The agency set up a barbeque day in a rented pool as their way to relieve their soldiers of the stress caused from the job. They also allowed them to bring a plus one to give them the opportunity to have fun and connect with others.
Leon was not one for big social hang outs. He’d rather go out with Chris on their little dates to places of their own choice. Which is why it took the latter a long time to convince the blond to go with him for a change.
The agent only agreed so he could ogle his husband’s well-oiled body.
That and because Piers and Jake were going to be there, so he’d actually have people he is close with.
Speaking of, they said they’re going around to “greet” people-which Leon, who just now understood, that it was a code for making out in a closet.
He sighed as he adjusted his sunglasses, chin resting on his hand. His eyes shifted all around the area, looking for any sign of his husband. A small smile creeped up when he spotted him talking to one of the soldiers. His gaze shamelessly trailed down Chris’s body. He licked his lip as Chris’s muscles bulged while he took a gulp from his water bottle.
Leon adjusted in his seat. The sight of the captain’s glowing tanned body is making him heat up.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the famous Leon S. Kennedy!”
Snapped out of his reverie, Leon looked up to see one of the soldiers approaching him.
“Who’s asking?” He replied, raising an eyebrow as the guy pulled out the chair opposite him and sat down – uninvited, mind you.
“Phillip Lawson, at your service” The soldier saluted.
The blond studied him with a small, subtle frown. He’d been trained to read people, and from what he could see, Phillip was exuding arrogance in the way he carried himself.
“You know who I am”
“Indeed, I do” Phillip said, smirking.
“How may I help you, Phillip?” Leon asked in a monotone voice.
“No help needed, agent” The soldier waved a hand “Just want to appease a curiosity”
Leon’s brows furrowed “And what are you curious about exactly?”
Phillip gestured back with his thumb toward a group by the bar area. “Nah, it’s just the boys and I were wondering,” he shifted forward in his seat, arms resting on the table and hands clasped together. “Who in the BSAA had the privilege of dating the DSO number one agent”
The agent glanced toward the group then back to the man in front of him.
“So,” The soldier leaned in, whispering. “Who’s the lucky lady that captured the hero’s heart?” He plastered an accusatory smirk.
Leon rolled his eyes behind his sunglasses. Grown men and they still like to gossip, he thought. He chewed on his inner cheek to ground his irritation. “Why’d you like to know?”
“Well, running mouths say it’s lady Nadia”
“Nadia?”
“Yeah, but it’s not plausible to me.” Phillip shrugged.
The blond hummed in acknowledgement. “Well, since it seems like you know better,” He mimicked Phillip’s movements, leaning forward and clasping his hands. “Take a guess.” He said with a smirk.
Phillip craned his neck to look around from left to right, eyes scanning the crowds. “Um, I’d say...Her!” He exclaimed; finger pointed to a blond girl. “Monica”
Leon watched the girl Phillip pointed out. What Mr. Lawson failed to notice was that the girl was blatantly flirting with the man next to her. It’s clear just from her body language. “Cute. Not my type”
“Whoa!” Phillip sat back in his chair, feigning surprise. “The agent has a type!”
Leon blinked. “Who doesn’t?”
“True,” Phillip went back to look around, muttering to himself “Monica is not….so blondes aren’t your type….”
The agent kept observing Phillip, watching as his eyes lit up and mouth curved into a grin. He could tell that he found another target, which was –
“Ha!” Phillip exclaimed. “I bet it’s Rachel”
– Another woman.
The blond shook his head. “Wrong again.”
“Oh, man” The soldier slumped in his seat.
Seeing Phillip in this state made Leon chuckle.
“Hold on,” he sat up abruptly, “are you even dating anyone?” He said, suspicion in his tone.
“I am.” Leon admitted.
“Why so mysterious about it then?”
Leon smirked with derision, “I’m not. You wanted to guess”
“But– “Both of their head whipped up when they heard the sound of laughter. Leon smiled fondly when he recognized it. The sound of Chris’s laughter is something he couldn’t get tired of. This moment made him glad he came, just knowing that his beloved is letting loose for once made him content.
“Speaking of mysteries,” Phillip turned back in his chair to face Leon, “our dear boss is another man that is so vague about his love life”
Leon frowned. “How come?”
“He proudly wears a ring, yet we’ve never seen his wife.” Phillip stated.
The blond had to take a deep breath. He had half a mind to scream at the idiot in front of him, but he couldn’t. Not in front of people he had never met before. He exhaled. “Maybe his partner does not like big social hang outs” For obvious reasons, he thought.
“Or she might not be real, but who knows?” Phillip shrugged.
Jaw clenched, mouth pressed. Leon’s gaze hardened behind his sunglasses. The shit coming out of Phillip’s mouth is getting to him. He cleared his throat. “I notice you’re only saying wife”
“Yeah?” Phillip’s face contorted in confusion.
“Well, have you ever considered that maybe…I don’t know…his partner could be a man?”
“Hah!” Phillip cackled, clutching his stomach. “Captain Chris? Gay? I’m sorry, but have you seen him?!”
“I have.” Leon answered in a dull tone. He’s done with this futile conversation.
“That man,” he gestured at Chris over his shoulder, “is the straightest man you’ll ever see”
Leon’s jaw dropped; eyes wide, he stared at Phillip. Not a lot of people could usually render him speechless, but this dude managed it. “You can’t be serious,” He breathed out.
“What? Look at him,” he said. “Could you honestly picture him with a man?”
Despite violence comes with their jobs, Leon doesn’t condone it outside of that field. Which is the only thing stopping him from leaping across the table and drop kicking this sucker. “You do realize there are bi people, right? Pan as well?” He replied instead.
Phillip nodded. “For sure. Though you can normally tell that someone is from the LGBTQ community, they’re pretty distinguishable. I repeat that Captain Chris is far from it.” The soldier leaned back in his chair, crossing one leg. “I bet his wife is hot and he’s trying to distant her from bachelors like me.” He sighed wistfully.
Okay, enough. Leon thought. He needs to put an end to this, and he just knows the perfect way to do so. “Well, how about we ask him?” Leon smirked. “Chris!” He shouted.
Chris turned his head at the mention of his name.
Leon waved him over. “Can you come here for a sec?”
Nodding, Chris said his goodbyes and made his way towards the table.
“You and the boss are close?” Phillip raised an eyebrow “No one could acknowledge him like that. We’d have our heads on a platter”
Leon chuckled, shrugging a shoulder. “He’s your boss, not mine. I do whatever. Don’t see him complaining”
Phillip blinked. “What?”
Leon took off his sunglasses, winking at the man in front of him.
Chris finally reached them. He walked toward his husband, smiling down at him.
The agents smiled up sweetly at Chris, looking up from under his eyelashes. “Hey, baby.” He leaned up in his seat, pursing his shiny lips.
“Hey, sweetheart” Chris leaned down to meet Leon in a short, sweet kiss. He brushed the blond’s hair away from his eyes. “Everything alright?”
“Everything is just fine.” Leon smiled softly.
“Wait, what?!” Phillip exclaimed.
“Oh, Lawson, didn’t see you there,” Chris said, pulling out a chair and sitting down next to husband. One arm coming up to rest on the blond’s shoulders, pulling him closer.
“Wait, boss, you and the agent are together?”
“We are. Married for 5 years now. Why? Got a problem with that, soldier?”
Leon leaned closer to the brunette, smirking as his husband used his captain’s voice.
“No, of course not, captain. I’m just shocked…well, if you’ll excuse me” He got up swiftly.
“Phillip,” Leon called after him.
“Hmm?”
“It’s Leon S. Kennedy-Redfield. For next time”
Phillip nodded firmly. “Copy that,” He left in a hurry.
Chris turned to Leon with raised eyebrow. “Care to enlighten me?”
“Oh, you know. Just showing your soldier that you have a hot husband rather than a wife”
“A hot wife?” Chris asked, still confused.
“Yup. ‘Cause according to Philip Lawson and I quote ‘Chris Redfield is the straightest man we’ll ever see,’” Leon mimicked.
Chris looked taken back “I’ve never hid my sexuality nor my marriage from anyone.”
Leon shook his head. “Not blaming you, baby. Some people just want to assume that they know better. These are the people I categorize as the scum of the earth”
Chris hummed as he took in what Leon said. “Well, how about… we forget all about the scum of the earth and….” Chris turned to the blond, smirking mischievously.
The agent squinted at his husband. “What do you have in that sinister mind of yours?”
“This!” he stood up abruptly, one hand finding its way around the blond’s waist and the other beneath his knees.
The younger man yelped as he was suddenly hoisted up into a bridal carry. His arms shot up to wrap around his husband’s neck. “Chris! What the hell are you doing?!”
“Well, you know,” Chris stated, walking towards the pool, “you seem heated up. Just want to help you cool down a little”
Leon’s eyes widened, and thrashed in his hold. “Chris, I swear to god—if you don’t put me down, I will – “
“Here we go!” The brunette took off running towards the pool and jumped.
A tremendous splash was what the bystanders saw, then a wet scowling DSO agent emerged, swimming to the edge of the pool and holding on to it “God—fucking–dammit, Christopher!” Leon grumbled, wiping his face.
Chris appeared a second later, grinning at his husband. “You look like a wet cat—ow!” Chris rubbed at his arm. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the look on the younger man’s face.
“I could drown you right here and now” Leon splashed Chris half-heartedly.
Chris beamed confidently “But you won’t because you love me”
Leon shook his head fondly at his husband’s antics. The two climbed out of the pool.
“You’re cool now?” Chris asked teasingly, wrapping a towel around his husband.
The agent shoved his husband playfully. “I was cool, you ass!”
Chris chuckled. He wrapped his arms around the blonde’s lithe waist, holding him closer and kissing his temple. “I love you, Leon Scott Kennedy-Redfield”
Leon leaned his head on the captain’s shoulder, nuzzling his neck. “Love you too, old man”
Here, in his man’s arms, Leon could only think about the warmth that surrounded him.
