Chapter Text
*Anko felt like shit. No other way to say it, no way to put it into pretty words, no. She felt absolutely awful, just filled with pain, all over her body, originating from that damned curse mark. She slowly opened her eyes and felt somebody take off her gas mask for her. Kagura helped her up slowly from the table, making Anko groan softly feeling like throwing up would be good right about now. Unfortunately, her mood got worse since Kushina decided to speak up, and her voice was like nails on a chalkboard.*
Kushina: How do you feel?
Anko: Like shit. I felt everything you both did to me. It felt like somebody was cutting me with a hot knife.
*Anko said, as she knew that special air wasn't going to do shit to her. Call it one of the little "blessings" that Orochimaru did to her. Anko has a very high tolerance to drugs, it takes a dangerous high dosage for it to do something to her, which works fantastically when she's out on the field. Not so much when she's in the hospital or the dentist. You can't imagine the level of pain she feels when the dentist "knocks her out" and she has to feel that drill hitting the nerve of her mouth. Kushina gave a nod as she looked at her notes.*
Kushina: Yes. I imagine that must've been the seal fighting to our interference with you're body.
Anko: A lot of fancy talk that I don't care about. Get to the point.
*Anko said as she rubbed where the seal was. Bad idea. It was like touching an open wound, making Anko wince loudly, and pull her hand away from there. Kagura chuckled watching Anko be in pain, a little messed up or inappropriate? Sure. But anko would've laughed if the shoe were on the other foot. Kushina remained professional, as she looked at her clipboard, looking at the progress they had made, they were able to eradicate a large portion of the seal, but it was gonna take multiple sessions for it to be removed completely.*
Kushina: It was successful. Of course, this is like removing a tattoo. It'll take multiple sessions, but this was a good first session.
Anko: Right. Don't suppose you can get me some pills for the pain huh?
*Anko said as she felt pain down to her bones in the most literal sense. It's been such a long time since she felt this much pain, it made her feel like that seal was alive and it was angry, and it was biting back. Kagura tossed Anko a bottle of water and a small pillbox. Anko took it and didn't even hesitate. She took 2 and swallowed, housing it down with some water. She takes a deep breath, hoping that the effect will come by soon, to make this at least tolerable.*
Kagura: I got you. Here's the receipt for the pharmacy. This should get you the good shit. But for now, this will have to do.
Anko: You're a diamond Kagura. When's the next session?
*Anko asked as she took a deep breath and stood up slowly, she felt like a sharp, hot knife was stabbing her feet with every step she took, but Anko ignored the pain, it hurt like a mother fucker, but crying wasn't gonna change that so why waste time doing something like that? She just got dressed and cracked her neck as she got ready to leave. While she was dressing, Kushina spoke about the next appointment, if she were being realistic, it would be around a week or two from now, her body needed time to heal a little before they started over again with this.*
Kushina: That depends on how long it takes you're body to heal from this one.
Anko: gotcha. Tomorrow same time.
*Anko said as she went to walk away but her knees buckled, and Kagura had to grab her before she fell on the floor. Yeah. No. Anko wasn't gonna be ready to go tomorrow, for another operation, if she does something that dumb, it will only just make the pain she is feeling more than double, hell more than quadruple. Kushina doesn't care how much Anko hates her for no apparent reason, since honestly, the only thing Kushina could think about was that Anko just hates her because Hiruzen hates her. But, she will not allow her patient to risk her life for something so petty.*
Kushina: No. Yes. I get it. You hate me and want me to leave as fast as possible. But we have to let you're body rest since it can only take so much.
Anko: There's that arrogance you only get from being a rich bitch. I'm not saying Tomorrow because I want you gone. I don't give a flying fuck what you do. I'm saying tomorrow, because I want my son to be safe as fast as possible.
*Anko said with a groan, as Kagura sits her down in a wheelchair, she'll need to use that until the pills kick in at least. Anko didn't care about Kushina, dead, alive, whatever, she only cares about what will make her son Naruto safer, and having this damn curse seal out of her body is number 1 on that list, so Anko does not care if she has to go through an ungodly amount of pain, she will do it without hesitation, since what Parent who loves their child wouldn't sacrifice themselves for them? Kushina could sympathize with Anko, but she is still not operating her tomorrow.*
Kushina: You're son is safe as he is gonna be. If Orochimaru hasn't activated it yet, he's not gonna do it now. Chances are he probably can't do it, unless you're in range, given that this was his first, he must've improved on the design as the years went on.
Anko: I'm not taking the chance. You don't know what it's like to have a fear that at any moment, you could harm the thing that's most precious to you. I'll be ready tomorrow for the next session, and that's final.
*Anko said firmly, as she never really got over that nightmare, she could smile, she could pretend that she was fine, but she wasn't. Not until that curse mark at the back of her neck is removed will she be fine. Even if there's only a 5% chance, a 3% chance even if it's only a 1% chance that the curse mark could activate, and hurt her son, Anko isn't gonna take the risk. Anko tried to get out of the wheelchair and walk out of there to prove her point but she couldn't, since while the spirit was willing the body was not. Kagura chuckled a little, shrugged, and decided to go through another avenue to convince Anko.*
Kagura: Hey, you're funeral. You're gonna feel absolute hell though.
Anko: I'll walk through hell barefoot if it means my son will be safe in my arms. Now help me get home.
*Anko said shooting Kagura a glare that reminded Kagura of the rebellious girl that Anko used to be back when they were both in the Anbu Corps. How she would defy orders and do the mission as she thought it should be done. She would get reprimanded sure, but at the end of the day, she always came back successful so they couldn't argue with the results. Funny how that same woman who one time literally bathed herself in the blood of her victims, was now struggling to even walk and still glaring with such rebellious spirit. Kagura sighed and nodded, but first, she placed anko back down on the wheelchair.*
Kagura: Sure. Where is the little munchkin?
With Naruto
Ibiki: Ok Naruto. This is called a tailbone. It's a useless part of the human body, but if it breaks it's gonna hurt like nobody's business.
*Ibiki said with a chuckle, as he was teaching Naruto some anatomy lessons today, since why not? The boy is always curious, no matter the topic, so Ibiki decided to teach him what he knows. Now the fact that the skeleton they were using wasn't a fake skeleton and that it was fresh, wasn't important, I don't even know why I wrote that, instead concentrate on the mental image of little Naruto having those big eyes filled with wonder as he wrote down what his uncle was telling him, with his barely readable letters.*
Naruto: Cool! So that man broke his tailbone and that's why he is crying?
Ibiki: It's one of the reasons. Yes. Now. Can you tell me what one injury really hurts if you move too much?
*Ibiki said with a kind smile that a teacher would be. Hm? What man? Oh! That man. Right. Right. Right. Uh. You see Ibiki was teaching Naruto all of this in the torture department, and using live people for Naruto to learn, since it's not like Naruto isn't at least once a week, might as well have him have a hands-on learning experience, since in Ibiki's opinion that's the best way for somebody to learn. Naruto looked at the bad man who was crying so hard that his sweat, mucus, and saliva all combined into one gross mess, and guessed which broken bone made him cry so hard.*
Naruto: Hmm if you fracture multiple ribs like you did to him!
Ibiki: very smart. Isn't he smart? I think he'll be one of our best one day.
*Ibiki said in a proud tone as he spoke to the captured scum, that he thought it would be a good idea to try and infiltrate Konoha when they're rebuilding, since yeah, Konoha is totally not gonna boost up security because they knew the other nations would try and take advantage of that. The man let's call him Ose, was at the bargaining stage.*
Ose: Please I am in constant pain! I don't know what you want from me!!
Ibiki: Then you're not in enough pain. If you were, you kumo swine would tell me why you were caught in our territory. Now Naruto. How about you be a good little assistant and fetch me the pliers? If he's not gonna talk no point in having teeth or tongue. And that way I can teach you the importance of teeth maintenance.
*Ibiki said as he petted Naruto's hair making the boy smile brightly, hitting Ibiki in the heart, since this boy was so cute. Naruto nodded his head excitedly since this was his chance to be a real shinobi! Those other times where he said it didn't count, this time! This time it was for real, this is his shinobi mission and he is so excited. he left running to get his uncle's tools, and maybe if he's lucky Ibiki will let him use one under his supervision.*
Naruto: Yes Uncle Ibiki. Uncle Kumo had better start thinking about whether he wants to eat solid food ever again.
Ibiki: I couldn't agree more.
Back to Anko
*Anko was prideful. But that also made her stupid, since she managed to climb up the stairs out of the basement, into the living room, just to prove that she would be fine tomorrow. It doesn't matter the fact that she had to do it as slowly as possible, or that every step felt like absolute torture, she managed to show those two that she will be fine to have surgery tomorrow. Anko continued the conversation she was having with Kagura moments ago, since she had to use all her energy to climb the stairs so she didn't speak.*
Anko: He's spending some quality time with his uncle Ibiki. A child needs a male role model to look up to, to grow up well-adjusted. A little boy even more so.
Kagura: I'll take you're word for it.
*kagura said with a sigh, seeing her friend letting pride win, as she slowly and I mean very slowly makes her way to the door, she'll figure out how she'll get home later, she just needs to make it to the door, and she'll prove that she'll be ready to have another round of this tomorrow, no question. Anko turned her head slowly to look at Kushina who was giving her a "this stupid bitch" look her which Anko did not appreciate, but she needed to know if there was anything else they needed to do.*
Anko: Anything else you want to tell me?
Kushina: If you're serious about this. I hope you're ready to be bedridden. Do you want that? Do you have enough money saved up for that?
*Kushina asked with her arms crossed, as she didn't want to have these sessions so close together, if she could she would have them 1 month apart just to be safe, and to make sure that the body has regained its strength to go at it again. Think of it as chemotherapy, there's a reason why we don't just make a patient do that every single day, since it would kill the healthy cells faster than they could heal. It was a similar situation here. Anko pursed her lips as she relented a little on her stance.*
Anko:... fine. I'll see you all week from now at the latest.
Kushina: I would feel more comfortable with a month or 2 weeks at a minimum, but fine. I can work with that. Hopefully you're body recovers quickly
Later with Jiraiya
*Hiruzen was in his office going through the usual paperwork he dealt with. Or well, the shadow clone was doing the work, the real Hiruzen was off training and being eye candy, since the mature women of Konoha found out where he was training shirtless. The work of Shadow Hiruzen was interrupted as Jiraiya came in through the window. Or tried. Since the window won't open. Jiraiya struggled to open the window but it wouldn't want to move an inch.*
Jiraiya: Hey what gives?! Old man! Sensei! Come on open up!
Hiruzen:....
*Hiruzen didn't respond he just kept writing pretending that Jiraiya wasn't even there, since Hiruzen knew that he wasn't there as a shinobi, he was there as Jiraiya. So if he was there as Jiraiya, he could use the door like a normal human being. Jiraiya not having the money to replace a window in the Hokage Tower, sighed and jumped down, walking in the normal way, he was about to open the door, when he heard a cough, he looked and it was Hiruzen's secretary, looking at him with a professional scary smile.*
Mura: Hello. Do you have an appointment?
Jiriaya: hey Mura.
*Jiraiya said with an awkward smile. He and Mura have.... history. Let's leave it at that. And it's totally not because Jiriaya reached a hefty settlement which included an N.D.A. contract they both had to sign, to keep their history under wraps. Mura remained professional to the would-be deadbeat if it wasn't for the contract, that a portion of his book earnings would go to her, an excuse of a man, and looked down at her list of meetings for the day.*
Mura: Name please.
Jiraiya: Oh come on. You know me.
*Jiraiya said with a groan, as he tried to walk inside the Hokage room but then felt something cold on his neck, it was the kunai of an anbu just waiting for Jiraiya to give them a reason. Jiriaya might be the best information shinobi they got out there on the fields because of his networks, but that didn't mean he could just walk into the Hokage's office as if he owned the place. Mura remained calm, not showing a hint of emotion that would show that she was actually enjoying Jiriaya getting what he deserved which was to be treated like the dog that he is.*
Mura: Name.
Jiraiya: jiraiya.
*Jiraiya said with a sigh as he took a step back and the anbu disappeared. He had no choice but to do this the legal way, if he didn't want to receive a great amount of pain, in the very near future. Mura looked at her list, being extra dramatic as she did so, just so Jiraiya knew she was being a bitch for no other reason than that she could, with glee. Mura shook her head, since what a shock, Jiraiya wasn't on the list, what a shame. But the Hokage is a busy man, so this piece of human garbage couldn't just walk in like that.*
Mura: You are not on the list. I sure do hope you didn't think you could just walk into the office of the busiest person in the village just like that. That luxury is reserved for family. Speaking of family
Naruto: Hi, Aunt Mura!
*Jiraiya flinched at the noise and looked down at the little copy of Minato holding a file tightly as if his life depended on it. Jiraiya didn't need to be told, he didn't need to guess either. He knew who this child was. He knew he was the one who was left behind. He feels a little sorry for him, but what could he do? If he didn't complete the prophecy the world would be doomed, this isn't about 1 life, this was about the life of the world. Mura gave a genuine smile to what those who work with called Hiruzen's "Honorable grandson."*
Mura: Hello little Naruto! What are you doing here?
Naruto: Uncle Ibiki finished doing her in-ves-ti-ga-tion. And gave me an important shinobi mission! He asked me to deliver the paperwork to Jiji!
*Naruto said with a big smile, since with this he would've done it, his first S-rank shinobi mission. Since Ibiki told him that it was of the utmost importance that Hiruzen get these papers, it had to be an S-class mission, in Naruto's mind. In reality, it wasn't even a D-ranked mission, but in Naruto's little mind, it was a very important mission. It made Jiraiya snort, hearing Naruto talk like this, it seemed that whatever orphanage Hiruzen stuck him in, he's got a good life, if he is this happy. Mura gave a small gasp to Naruto for being such a good boy and spoke in that tone that adults use for little kids.*
Mura: all by yourself? My that's quite the shinobi mission. Go on. You're jiji is waiting for you. I'm sure he'll give you a nice reward
Naruto: Candy!
*Naruto said with excitement as he ran inside the office, and closed the door behind him. Jiraiya kept looking at the door that was closed door, which was Minato's son. That was the child of the man he trained, and what will be his fate? To become a mediocre shinobi, and then die for his village, be forgotten from the sands of time as nothing more than another grain of sand with the other nameless shinobi who give their life for their village. Unlike Mito who'll become the head of the Uzumaki clan. Narumi whom Jiraiya knows is the child of destiny, or Karin who has the potential to be known as one of the strongest Uzumaki by the fact that she is 100% Uzumaki and not 50% like Mito. But Naruto? Not even a last name to call his own he'll be the prince of nothing. Mura spoke again, getting the attention of Jiraiya.*
Mura: now. As for you. Please sit down. IF there is an opening on his schedule I'll let you know.
Jiraiya:...fine.
Hours later
*The door opened and Jiraiya walked inside after waiting an ungodly amount of time to see his old teacher, and there he was, still writing paperwork instead of giving Jiraiya his full attention. Jiraiya coughed to get the attention of Hiruzen and the man just waved at Jiraiya to sit down and remain quiet. Jiraiya was perplexed, he was so sure that Hiruzen would've accepted the choice Jiraiya had to make by now, but apparently not. The smile that Hiruzen once greeted him with every time he visited was now gone. Permanently. Well. That's not true, it was given to somebody else. To Naruto. *
Hiruzen: "Hm. A fishing trip with the boy sounds like a good way to spend a Sunday."
*Hiruzen thought, as he continued to ignore Jiraiya. He could show the man who has saved the village numerous times with his secret spy network, stopping attacks before they even happened. But the truth was that Hiruzen had lost almost all respect for his student and eventually came to realize that, while he had trained three great shinobi, they were lousy people his daughter showed him that to him loud and clear. Of the three of them, Jiraiya was the only one who had continued to give Hiruzen any hope, and that hope was dashed on the night of his successor's children's births. Now, he regarded all three of them as nothing more than failures and disappointments. Naruto was his last chance to have a legacy to be proud of. After minutes of silence, Jiraiya broke it.*
Jiriaya: Old man, how's it going?
Hiruzen: I'm doing fine, Jiraiya, How are you?
*Hiruzen responded in a near-monotone, and asked, without even bothering to look up from his paperwork, not noticing Jiraiya's grin. Jiraiya noticed that Hiruzen looked different, healthier, stronger, he would have to be a blind fool not to see it, but he couldn't say anything about it, since he doubted that Hiruzen would tell him the reasons why. So he just continued with his own conversation.*
Jiraiya: I'm doing great! My research is coming along well the twins celebrated something that I can't remember at the moment but let me tell you. Those repressed noblewomen? Uff. They'll do things to you. Dirty things.
Hiruzen: How lovely. I'm sure you're mother must be looking up at you with such pride
*Hiruzen said in a dry tone, as he went back to work. To think that at one point in time, Jiraiya was a contender for being a leader, or being the next Hokage. Hiruzen is glad that the world doesn't exist, since Konoha would be lost if this man were the ruler of it. That's when Hiruzen broke his pen over something that Jiraiya said. Jiraiya was only playing, but he didn't realize how much of a sensitive issue this was for the old man.*
Jiraiya: Hey, how's the kid…what was his name?
Hiruzen: Seriously, Jiraiya? 'What was his name'? Do you seriously mean to tell me that your late student's family means so little to you that you can't even remember the name of your own godson?
*Hiruzen said with anger quickly growing in his tone, even if now that position was with Ibiki, that didn't change the fact that Minato wanted Jiraiya to be the godfather and Jiraiya accepted that responsibility. Hiruzen can only wonder how Minato must feel about making that decision. Jiraiya frowned a little over what Hiruzen said, and spoke up with some indignation in his tone.*
Jiraiya: Huh? What do you mean? I do care for Minato's family. I've always made sure to look after Mito and Narumi!
Hiruzen: Really, now? And if they didn't tie in to your Almighty Prophecy, would you still care as much?
*Jiraiya frowned darkly Who did Hiruzen think he was asking something like that? He should know more than anybody how important Mito and Narumi were for the future of the world, he was just too soft to see it. His heart goes out to Naruto, honestly, it does, even if nobody believes it. Jiraiya is sure that the boy will be able to carve out his own sliver of fulfillment, but we're talking about 2 prodigies that will change the world. Of course, Jiriaya loved them. They were his goddaughters, so with a low tone, Jiraiya gave his teacher a chance to correct what he said.*
Jiraiya: And just what is that supposed to mean, sensei?
Hiruzen: Jiraiya, your late student's family means far less to you than this prophecy does, which has given you an overwhelmingly overinflated sense of self-importance! The only reason you even remember Mito and Narumi's names is because you're convinced that they're the Children of this Prophecy, and I only know that because training them and their relation to the prophecy is all you ever talk about.
*Jiraiya said with such anger that it reminded Jiraiya of the birthday party, months ago. Jiraiya felt like it was hard to breathe, but he continued to talk, or tried to. Since what Hiruzen said next, kept Jiraiya quiet.*
Hiruzen: Minato must be looking towards you from the afterlife with such pride, especially with how much you care for his son, 'What was his name'.
