Chapter Text
Sky sits at his dorm relaxing in the couch, yet his eyebrows remained stiff at the thought of a new roommate joining. A knock on the door makes him even more annoyed but he still he gets up opening the door. He swings the door open, his expression unreadable. “Yeah?” He mutters, expecting to see someone he knows. He’s shirtless, wearing only low-hung joggers and no shoes.
Nani looks at his new roommate with wide eyes. Sky raises an eyebrow, taking in the sight of Nani. He doesn’t say anything immediately, instead leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed. His muscles flex slightly with the movement, and he lets out a slow breath before speaking. “You must be the new roommate,” he states flatly.
“ I-I am” nani stutters, looking everywhere but sky, cheeks hued red. He didn’t expect his roommate would be half naked while greeting him for the first time! Sky smirks slightly at Nani’s obvious flustered state, noticing how Nani’s eyes keep flickering towards his chest and abs. He deliberately uncrosses his arms, stretching slightly which causes his muscles to flex more. “You do talk, right?”
nani sighs, now looking straight at sky’s eyes “ yes, now if you please excuse me, I wanted to see the dorm a bit and my room. Um I will be shifting tomorrow with my things.”
"Sure.” He steps aside, allowing Nani to enter, purposefully not putting on a shirt yet. He watches Nani’s face carefully as they pass each other, amused by how easily Nani’s cheeks flush.
“Your room’s the second door on the left” , “Thank you,” nani says quickly walking of the new room, which by tomorrow will be his. He stays leaning against the door frame, arms now resting loosely against it. “No problem. And… you might want to get used to seeing this.”
He runs a hand through his messy dark hair, gesturing down at his current state of undress “I’m not really one for shirts.”
Nani hears his roommate but avoids answering, he has heard rumours about his roommate, sky, he is the leader of the university’s football team, always ensuring they win while he is good at sports he is not that great at studies besides—nani has heard how his roommate frequently gets into fights and by looks of him if sky punches him once he might be finished off.
Nani reminds himself not to get involved with his roommate at all. Sky’s smirk widens as he hears Nani’s silence, clearly enjoying the effect he has on his new roommate. He pushes off the doorframe, turning to head back into the room. “Anyway, I’ll let you get settled. I’ve got practice soon.”
“Thank you”, nani mutters. As Sky leaves the room, he can’t help but notice how Nani’s body language screams ‘avoid me’. He finds it oddly attractive. During practice later that day, he can’t focus on anything but the thought of his new roommate. He ends up breaking a record for most touchdowns in a practice session. Next morning nani comes with his stuff packed in different boxes, he stands in front of the dorm door wondering if it’s a good idea to knock, god knows what if sky is sleeping and he disturbs him and gets punched? After a while, Sky opens the door, his hair still damp from a shower.
He’s wearing only low-slung sweatpants this time, no shirt. He looks at Nani with a raised eyebrow, noticing the boxes. “Moving in today, huh?” His voice is calm, almost friendly.
”Oh yeah” – nani says quickly, “I was just about to um knock on the door” Sky steps aside to let Nani in, his abs flexing with the movement. "No need to knock. It’s your room too now.” He closes the door behind Nani and leans against it, arms crossed over his chest.
“Need help with those boxes?” Nani hesitates he does need help but he would rather not make the sky his helper. So he shakes his head. Sky’s eyebrow arches even higher at Nani’s refusal of help.
A smirk plays at the corners of his mouth as he pushes off the door and walks closer to Nani. “Suit yourself then.” He reaches out suddenly and grabs two of the boxes before Nani can protest.
“I’m helping anyway.” Nani blinks stupefied, isn’t his roommate kind of an asshole? Scary guy? But then why he is helping him? He sighs before taking another box, they work in silence. Sky watches Nani out of the corner of his eye as they move the boxes into the room. He notices how Nani keeps his distance and avoids any unnecessary contact or conversation.
It’s amusing and intriguing at the same time. Once all the boxes are inside, Sky straightens up and stretches lazily. “thank you sky for helping me.. “ Nani says, his voice soft just like his appearance, today he is wearing a similar outfit just like he did yesterday, a pink t-shirt which is quite big in his frame, a pair of faded jeans. “Don’t mention it,” Sky replies, his voice carrying a casual co
He notices how Nani’s clothes seem too big for his slight frame – and how the pink shirt emphasizes his delicate features.
Something stirs in Sky’s chest when he sees how vulnerable Nani appears. “Those clothes…”Sky doesn’t complete his sentence, leaving Nani with “make your self at home”
Going off his own room. Left alone, Nani hears Sky mutter something that sounds like “Too big…” He’s not sure if Sky was talking about his clothes or something else. He watches Sky disappear into his own room.
His roommate is tall, muscular, tanned… basically everything Nani is not. Nani shakes his head, opening the boxes so he can organize his stuffs in his room, making it his safe space, ignoring his heated cheeks and racing heart.
As Nani unpacks his things, Sky finds himself unable to focus on his own activities. He keeps glancing at the door connecting their rooms, imagining Nani’s delicate hands arranging his belongings.
The pink shirt keeps popping into his mind, along with Nani’s soft voice thanking him earlier. Frustrated sky takes his phone texting his gang a message of them meeting in a bar just down the street, to get drunk. “Meet me at the bar downtown in an hour,” Sky texts his gang. He knows drinking and hanging out with his buddies will distract him from thinking about his new roommate.
He changes into a black t-shirt and jeans, running a hand through his hair before heading out. “See ya later,”Nani nods at his roommate, once again ignoring how sky really is attractive , he is grateful enough his roommate is just behaving fine with him and he hopes they will be like this for the next three years now.
Sky seems to be a nice roommate so far. It’s good that he is helping Nani move in and not causing any trouble. His comments about his clothes might have been innocent or maybe there is something more behind them?
Whatever it is Nani doesn’t may much attention to them. Sky gets into the dorm drunk he stumbles back into the dorm room late at night, his eyes bloodshot and his steps unsteady. He laughs loudly to himself as he tries to quietly close the door behind him, failing miserably. He’s definitely drunk. He leans against the wall near the door, his head spinning.
Nani opens his room door at the loud sound, his mouth O when he sees sky stumbling. Sky looks up blearily as the door to Nani’s room opens, his drunk mind registering the soft gasp and wide eyes.
He pushes off from the wall and starts walking towards Nani unsteadily, a sloppy grin spreading across his face. “Hey there…”
”Um hi..” He mutters moving at a safe distance while he watches sky with wide eyes who stumbles his way into his! Sky ignores Nani’s attempt to keep distance and keeps walking towards him until he’s right in front of him. He reaches out and grabs Nani’s arm to steady himself, his fingers digging into the soft skin.
“You’re up late…” He slurs, his face inches away from Nani’s. Nani gulps, nose scrunching at the smell of alcohol, “please go to your room” Sky ignores Nani’s request, his grip on his arm tightening instead.
He leans in closer, his drunk mind not registering the discomfort or the plea in Nani's voice. His face is now pressed against Nani’s neck, inhaling deeply. “You smell nice…” He mumbles into his skin.
Nani gulps, trying to calm his racing heart which seems to get out of his heart and tries to move sky to sky’s room who only leans at him more, Nani almost himself stumbles with sky’s weight.
Sky’s arms wrap around Nani’s waist, pulling him closer as he stumbles forward. His drunken state makes him oblivious to Nani’s discomfort and resistance. “Come on, don’t be like that,” he slurs softly, his breath hot against Nani’s neck.
As much as he finds sky attractive this behaviour makes Nani mad but he doesn’t dares to say anything to the guy in front of him and rather coaxes sky to go to his room helping sky who finally listens and comply mumbling drunken.
Nani helps guide Sky back to his room, supporting his weight as they stumble through the doorway. Once inside, Sky collapses onto his bed, pulling Nani down with him.
He wraps his arms around Nani possessively, burying his face in his neck. “Stay…” He mumbles sleepily.
“What” Nani whispers heart thudding with the closeness, he stays still waiting for sky to sleep so he can quietly leave him, once sky falls asleep, his hold loosening he carefully gets out of sky’s hold going to his room not without glaring at sky and muttering a “drunk asshole”
The next morning, Sky wakes up with a pounding headache and a dry mouth. He groans and rolls over in bed, He rubs his temples, trying to piece together the events of the previous night.
Sky remembers bits and pieces of stumbling into the dorm drunk. He remembers seeing Nani and talking to him… but everything else is fuzzy. He sits up suddenly, his eyes darting around the room.
He notices Nani’s scent on his pillow and realizes he must have pulled him into his room last night. Sky gets out of bed, his head still throbbing but his mind clearer now that the alcohol has worn off.
He decides to go find Nani and apologize for his drunken behaviour last night. He walks down the hall to Nani’s room and knocks softly on the door.
When Nani opens the door, Sky immediately feels guilty. He can see the lingering effects of his drunken behavior in Nani’s expression. “Hey,” he says softly, running a hand through his hair. “I’m really sorry about last night. I was drunk and out of line.” He pauses.
Nani’s eyes widen, he hasn't expected sky to apologize but then again he should after all he quite harassed Nani yesterday.
“ I shouldn’t have pulled you into my room like that. Or said those things. Or pulled you onto my bed,” Sky continues, his face scrunching up in embarrassment. He meets Nani’s gaze, his expression sincere. “I was really drunk, okay? I didn’t mean any of it.””It’s fine “ Nani mutters, about to close the door. Sky quickly puts his hand out to stop the door from closing.
“No, wait,” he says firmly but gently. “It’s not fine. I was an asshole and I need you to know that I regret it. Can I come in for a minute?” His hand remains on the door frame.
“Look, I’m not going to hit on you or anything like that. I just want to apologize properly.” He takes a deep breath.
“I was an idiot last night.” He pauses. Nani raises a borrow, is he really that sorry? Apologizing once is fine. Nani thinks to himself, he once again says now in much of kind voice, “it’s fine, you already said sorry once ” Sky’s expression turns frustrated, his arms dropping to his sides. “No, it’s not fine,” he snaps softly. “I need to apologize properly because I feel like shit for making you uncomfortable last night.” He steps closer, lowering his voice.
Nani looks at sky surprised, wasn’t sky a cold rude guy who doesn’t apologizes to anyone? Then were those rumours false? Nani knows he shouldn’t trust rumours but it doesn’t help to be careful.
“Alright if you feel that bad, you can buy me breakfast today” He suggests. Sky blinks, surprised at the suggestion. He considers it for a moment before nodding slowly. “Deal,” he says, holding out his hand.
“I’ll buy you breakfast. But can I ask you something first?” His expression turns curious, his gaze lingering on Nani’s face. Nani nods, “go ahead”
”Why are you so… trusting?” He asks, genuinely curious. “I mean, I was a complete dick last night and you’re just… letting it go?” He studies Nani’s face intently, almost vulnerable in his honesty.
”What else, are you supposed to act like a flower while you are drunk?” Nani snaps though his expression remains normal.
Sky laughs unexpectedly, a genuine laugh that transforms his face. “Fair point,” he admits, dropping his hand. “You have a smart mouth when you want to.” He smiles briefly before it faded into a more serious expression.
“Breakfast then? My treat.” He steps back from the doorframe completely.
Nani hums closing his door saying he will be in the living room in a few minutes. Sky nods, watching as Nani disappears into his room. He takes a moment to compose himself, running a hand through his hair. As he heads to the living room, he can’t help but feel a strange sense of relief and something else he can’t quite put his finger on.
Sky finds Nani sitting on the couch, scrolling through his phone. He sits down next to him without thinking twice about it this time. “So,” he says casually, trying to act normal despite the strange flutter in his stomach at being so close to Nani again.
“What do you want for breakfast?” ”Pancakes “ Nani says. “Pancakes it is,” Sky says with a nod. He pulls out his phone and starts ordering from a nearby café. “Anything specific you want on them? Syrup, fruits, whipped cream?” He glances at Nani, trying to keep the conversation light.
”Syrup” Nani says without looking away from his phone. Sky nods, adding syrup to the order. As he waits for the confirmation, he finds himself stealing glances at Nani. He’s surprised by how calm and comfortable he feels sitting next to him. It’s a strange feeling, but not an entirely unpleasant one.
“You know,” Nani finally looks at sky. “You’re really focused on your phone,” Sky says with a small smile. “What’s so interesting?” He leans back against the couch, his eyes flicking between Nani’s face and the phone screen. “Or are you ignoring me on purpose?” He teases lightly, his tone gentle.
Nani stifles, looking back at his phone he says, “I’m texting my friend” Sky’s expression falters slightly at the mention of a friend, a sudden pang of jealousy hitting him out of nowhere. He quickly pushes it down, not understanding where it came from. “Oh, okay,” he says casually, trying to keep his tone neutral. “A girlfriend or a guy friend?”
”I don’t have a girlfriend” He mumbles typing in his phone. Sky raises an eyebrow, a small smirk playing on his lips. “So, a guy friend then?” He asks, trying to keep the conversation light despite the unexpected jealousy still lingering. He shifts slightly on the couch, turning his body more towards Nani.
Nani hums, just then a knock breaks the atmosphere. Sky gets up to answer the door, his mind still partially on the unfinished conversation about Nani’s friend. He pays for the pancakes and brings them back to the living room. When he sits back down next to Nani, he decides to change the topic instead of pressing further about the friend.
“Here,”
”Thank you” Nani mumbles, looking at the pancakes with eyes twinkling, he seems quite hungry. Sky watches Nani’s expression soften as he looks at the pancakes, his jealousy melting away at the sight. He finds himself smiling back at Nani, the warmth in his chest growing slightly. “You’re welcome,” he says, his tone gentler than before.
They eat in silence , sky occasionally asking some question, sky learns Nani is majoring at literature, he is also a member of the acting club and he just moved here in city two months ago after getting the scholarship at their university.
Sky listens intently as Nani answers his questions between bites of pancakes. He finds himself genuinely interested in learning more about him – his major, acting club membership, and the fact that he’s new to the city. It explains why he doesn’t seem to have many friends here yet.
After that day they talk not like friends but more like acquaintances there’s no more of that “awkwardness” In the air. The awkwardness between them fades away, replaced by a comfortable familiarity. They start talking more often, sharing small conversations in the kitchen or living room while they study or relax. Sky finds himself looking forward to these moments more than he should admit to himself.
Sometimes, he catches himself staring at Nani when he thinks the other isn’t looking – the way he concentrates when reading, or how his lips slightly part when he’s deep in thought. He’s careful to maintain his composure, not wanting to scare Nani off with his increasingly apparent feelings.
Nani tells himself, sky is indeed a good person with a opposite reputation, the few friends Nani has they too tell him to be careful of sky , he often wonders why sky someone who is respectful and frank would have a bad reputation? Then again people gossip. He feels quite content with sky being his roommate and finds himself looking forward to spending those little mornings or the nights with him.
Meanwhile, Sky finds himself going out of his way to be the best roommate possible – making sure Nani has quiet time to study when he needs it, occasionally cooking extra food knowing Nani might be hungry later, and always ensuring Nani feels comfortable and safe in their shared space.
One evening after a long day of classes and rehearsals for Nani’s acting club play, Sky finds Nani curled up on their couch reading a book when he enters their apartment. He pauses momentarily watching Nani’s peaceful expression before speaking up softly.
”Hey, you’ve been at it for a while,” Sky says, walking over to set his bag down near the door. “Want some tea?” He asks, already moving towards the kitchen without waiting for a response. He knows Nani likes chamomile tea to relax before bed. “Yes please, how was your practice? “ Nani asks still curled up while sky quietly moves in the kitchen.
”It was good,” Sky replies from the kitchen, the sound of water boiling softly in the background. “Just the usual drills and some conditioning.” He pulls out two mugs and a box of chamomile tea bags, preparing them both a cup.
“How about your rehearsal?”
”It was good, the members are working hard for the upcoming fair fiesta” Nani replies.
Sky smiles, carrying the two mugs of tea back to the living room. He hands one to Nani before settling down next to him on the couch. “That sounds exciting,” he says, taking a sip of his tea. The warmth of the mug feels good in his hands after a long day.
Nani blows the warm tea before taking a sip, “yeah what about you? You will be there, in fair fiesta? ”
”Of course,” Sky replies, turning to face Nani slightly more. “The soccer team usually participates in some friendly matches during the fair. Plus, I always try to check out the food stalls and live performances.” He pauses, his eyes flicking down to Nani’s lips before quickly looking back up.
”I see, then I guess we might see each other” Nani says, thinking how in these two months of being roommate with sky he has never once saw sky in the university, then again, their university was quite spacious with many buildings beside their majors way two different.
Sky nods, taking another sip of his tea to hide any signs of nervousness. “Yeah, I guess we might,” he says casually. But internally, he’s hoping they do cross paths during the fair. He’d love to see Nani in action on stage and maybe even grab some food together.
As they sit together on the couch, the atmosphere between them feels cozy yet charged with unspoken words. Sky watches Nani’s profile in the dim light coming from their apartment window – his soft features illuminated beautifully by moonlight filtering through curtains.
Without thinking too much about it, Sky reaches out and gently brushes a strand of hair behind Nani’s ear. His fingers linger for a moment longer than necessary, feeling the softness of Nani’s skin.
Nani turns his head slightly at the touch, their faces inches apart now.”W-whats wrong? “ Nani stutters at the mere distance between them, touching his hair as sky removes his hand. Sky’s heart skips a beat at the closeness and Nani’s stutter, making him realize how intimate the moment has become.
He quickly averts his gaze, his face flushing slightly. “N-nothing,” he stammers, setting his tea mug down on the coffee table. “I just…”Sky runs a hand through his hair, trying to regain his composure.
“you had something in your hair,” he lies softly, hoping Nani won’t notice the slight tremor in his voice. He clears his throat gently and picks up his tea mug again for something to do with his hands.
”Oh” Nani nods finishing his tea before getting up, “thank you for the tea, I will be leaving first then, goodnight.”
”Goodnight,” Sky replies softly, watching as Nani gets up and walking towards his room. He lets out a shaky breath once Nani is gone, realizing how close he came to doing something stupid.
”Damn,” Sky mutters softly to himself, running both hands through his hair again. He realizes that he almost touched Nani’s face uninvited, almost kissed those slightly parted lips. He swallows hard, trying to ignore the butterflies suddenly appearing in his stomach. “Get a grip,”
”Seriously… what am I doing? That was too close.” He rubs his temple, attempting to push away thoughts of how soft Nani’s skin felt against his fingertips. “We’re roommates, just roommates…” He repeats it several times as if trying to convince himself.
”God, those glasses make him look innocent…” Sky finds himself thinking randomly. “And his voice is so soft…” He shakes his head slightly. “He’s a guy, you idiot. Stop having these thoughts,” He scolds himself internally, finishing his tea and placing the mug in the sink.
As he walks towards his own room, he can’t help but feel a warmth spreading through his chest at the memory of Nani’s stutter when their faces were inches apart. He quickly shuts the door behind him, leaning against it with a sigh.
“he is already affecting me this much in just two months….. how will I survive three years with him? ”
Nani closes the door of his room, leaning against it placing his palm at his thudding heart beat, just remembering about how close they were makes him shiver. He inhales and exhales, “no Nani, sky.. Isn’t interested in guys.. Definitely not me.. Don’t you dare to hope anything” He mutters to himself, going to his bed, pulling the comforter up to his nose.
Both of them lay in their respective rooms, trying to sleep but their minds are racing with thoughts of each other. Sky stares at the ceiling, wondering why he suddenly feels so drawn to Nani while Nani buries himself deeper into his blankets, hoping his feelings don’t get out of control.
“He’s straight,” Nani mutters to himself for the hundredth time that night. “He dates girls. He’s never shown any sign of being gay…” He rationalizes. “ Plus, he’s popular, smart, and way out of my league.”
Meanwhile, Sky finds himself replaying the moment in his head – how Nani’s glasses slipped slightly when they were so close together, how his breath smelled like mint tea… He groans into his pillow, adjusting himself discreetly under his sheets.
”Fuck, what is wrong with me?” Sky whispers to himself in the darkness, his heart racing. He’s never felt this way about anyone before, let alone a guy. He buries his face in his pillow, trying to ignore the growing heat between his legs.
”It’s just a stupid crush,” Sky tells himself. “It’ll pass. I just need to get laid, that’s all. I’m probably just really fucking horny.” He tries to convince himself, but deep down, he knows it’s more than that.
As the night wears on, neither of them can find sleep. They’re both lying in their own rooms, hearts racing, minds filled with forbidden thoughts about each other. The house is silent, except for the soft sounds of their breathing and the occasional rustle of sheets as they try to get comfortable.
Suddenly, Sky sits up in bed, his decision made.
He gets out of bed quietly, putting on a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie. He opens his door slowly, checking if the hallway is empty before stepping out. He walks silently towards Nani’s room, his heart pounding in his chest. He stands outside Nani’s door for a moment, hand hovering over the handle.
“What are you even doing, idiot?” he whispers to himself. But before he can overthink it, he gently turns the knob and pushes the door open just a crack. Enough to see Nani’s silhouette under the covers.
Nani is lying on his side facing the door, unaware that Sky is standing there watching him sleep peacefully. His glasses are folded neatly on the bedside table, his hair is messy from sleeping, and he looks incredibly cute and innocent in the moonlight streaming through the window. Sky swallows hard, his resolve weakening.
“God, what would he do if he knew I was standing here like a creep?” Sky thinks, his hand unconsciously moving to push the door open a bit more. He catches himself just in time, afraid of making a sound that might wake Nani. The urge to go in, to maybe just…Sky shakes his head, closing the door silently before he runs back to his room, locking the door.
Back in his room, Sky leans against the door, his heart still racing. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. “What the hell was I thinking?” he whispers to himself, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
