Recall A Passing Heart

Summary:

Welcome to RecallAPassingHeart (Icarus AU)
This is a roleswap AU, in which Ace takes Dragon’s protagonist role.
The cast will get minor design changes. For example, Ace here wears a long orange scarf, Dragon has actual dragon wings and tail, Purple carries tools on her belt… things like that.

The most important addition is that when you get eclipsed, you can still control your vessel, making this a “partial eclipse” instead. Until eventually, you give in and become fully eclipsed.

Chapter 1: Happenstance

Summary:

The introduction to the friendgroup, where everything used to be fine.

Dragon is sitting on his desk, pen in hand, tapping on a piece of paper with a question written on it:

“ 5 + 5 = ___ ”

[dragondudes3]: "...Hmmm… ngghhh! WHATS THE ANSWER?!"

 

His pen dropped in a fit of mild rage. But then a figure behind him tapped on his shoulder, it’s Ace.

 

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: “Maybe its violence.”

 

Dragon gasped at those words said by Ace. Before the two started shooting the paper rapidly with guns, causing the paper to be in itty bitty pieces quickly.

 

[dragondudes3]: alright! i think thats good enough!

 

Dragon signaled to stop shooting, they were recording a skit for Dragon’s video that will feature Ace for the first time on his channel.

Ace is already accustomed to making videos, afterall he inspired Dragon to start making his own! Right now, he’s helping Dragon make introduction videos for their friends. Purple and Sixty’s were already all done, and they all have skits that feature them. So Ace’s intro will be no different, his skit was based off TomSka’s “Always the Answer” video .

When Dragon first started his channel, Ace thought he’d be making videos similar to his, just some silly gameplay videos and compilations of funny moments he had in his Roblox sessions. He’d never thought Dragon would make really well-edited skits that would have much better quality than his own. He admitted he was a bit envious of Dragon’s editing skills at first… Especially since Dragon got his subscribers faster than Ace’s, but Ace was still happy for him nonetheless, he was featured in Ace’s videos a lot of times anyway, he deserves at least some recognition for being the nicest and most considerate friend that Ace knows.

Just like that, Dragon’s username disappeared from the player list along with himself.

Ace took a sip from his water bottle next to him before joining Sixty’s server, stay hydrated before sword fighting your friend on the heights, folks!

Ace didn't realize he’s been sword fighting Sixty for an hour now, the playerlist showed that Sixty won with 26 kills and 4 deaths, poor Ace.

[Sixty4Gamer]: hahahaha

Dragon always win sword fights against everyone in the group, and only ever lost to Sixty in the paintball game. Ace was actually half-expecting Dragon to join the game and be his knight in shining armor, protecting his comrade…! But he knows very well Dragon’s more focused on editing and finishing his video, such a silly thought.

To his surprise however, Dragon’s profile appears to be online, so he started typing messages…

Took a bit of waiting for a response, seems like it’s still a work in progress.

Ace saw Dragon’s status in the game Purple invited him to: “[purplesub01’s Hangout Area]” Not too long after, Dragon sent a message to Ace:

Ace excitedly joined Dragon and Purple, being able to see their builds and hang out in their houses, Ace still doesn’t have a house of his own though, but he’s happy with his own store that he sells cereal, waffles and Sonic games in.

[purplesub01]: just finishing up this build

[purplesub01]: and i wanted someone to talk to while i build

Ace walks off to the gear wall while Dragon and Purple talk and build something on their own.

 

[purplesub01]: also update on my mom

[purplesub01]: shes feeling better now thankfully

[dragondudes3]: thats really good

[dragondudes3]: i wish her a fast recovery

[purplesub01]: yeah

[purplesub01]: im still freaked out by it though

[purplesub01]: might play less to help her out these days

Ace returned to the two… walking towards them while holding a waffle…

Ace then began dropping waffles from his inventory, and he kept dropping more, and more…

[dragondudes3]: thats a lot of waffles…

[purplesub01]: oh my goodness ace how much waffles do you have

 

as Ace kept droping more and more waffles, the small stack of waffles turned into a puddle of waffles, and then there were so many waffles that a lot of them started to fall and get flung around the gang.

It appears that Ace’s bag he carries around that offer extra rooms for items can light up the mood in a fun way like this. In the amidst of Ace still throwing waffles around the place, Sixty joined the game.

Sixty is being chased for the entire map by the other 3 holding waffles, that is when he pulled out his paintball gun he often carries around and started shooting them in retaliation.

This time, Sixty is the one chasing them, shooting paintball bullets that deal a little bit of damage. He managed to corner Ace.

In a turn of events, Dragon managed to swoop right in and killed Sixty with a sword.

Sixty then left, and shortly after Ace also closed the game.

The rest of the day was relatively normal, Ace played around on his computer a bit more, surfing the net or doing whatever, maybe rewatching a couple of his own and Dragon’s videos, until it’s time to sleep for the night. They still have school afterall, it’s only a few weeks away until Christmas break, and Ace has plans to spend that time with his friends and making videos.

He wonders what Dragon thinks of him? Dragon writes lists of games his friends like, but Ace kind of forgot to update his current favorite games to Dragon, dang.

But it’s okay, he can talk more about the video with Dragon tomorrow, he’s too tired to work on anything or consume any more media, he really anticipates the video about him… let alone from one of his closer friends so he’s a bit scared of how Dragon views Ace as a person… It’s definitely not anything bad for sure, it’s just the slight feeling of shyness when someone makes a video about you for the first time, there’s hopefully really nothing to worry about.

 

The next day came, after having to go through yet another boring day at school, Ace comes back online and to his surprise, he is greeted with Dragon’s messages… from last night after he logged off:

[dragondudes3]: ill play something for a bit and then finish the rest by tomorrow

[dragondudes3]: im sure youll love it :)

 

Ace’s woes from last night were lifted! He never felt happier making a response:

Dragon’s profile appears to be offline, which is rare since Ace has always seen Dragon online every single time he gets home for the longest time. Maybe this time around he probably doesn’t have the site open, or dealing with other things before finishing it, he really can’t wait to see the video.

So to pass the time, he just goes to play some Roblox games, hang out with Purple and Sixty, and watch cat videos like how he always does after school.

Before he realizes it, it’s already getting late. And contrast to what Dragon said, the video did not get uploaded. Not only that, Dragon is still offline.

Weird, he said he’d finish it by tonight, maybe he’s just dealing with real life things or procrastinating? Regardless, that's completely normal and not like it’s never happened before. He can always upload it the next day! Ace decided to send him another message:

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: I can wait

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Hope everythings fine on your end so far! ^_^

 

The next day came, Ace was back from school… and there were no new messages from Dragon. Hmm… must be something serious affecting him in real life, a sudden trip? A personal family issue? It’s a bit unusual for someone like Dragon to not respond to his friends, he cares so much about each and every one of them he has, he wouldn't go offline for two days without letting them know what’s going on with him. Do the others get any messages from him?

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: I want to know if you and Dragon talked lately? @_@

[purplesub01]: hi

[purplesub01]: um, dragon and i havent chatted in 2 days by now

[purplesub01]: did he tell you anything?

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Oh

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Not really his last messages were also from 2 days ago

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: They were about the video he was making for me

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Thanks tho

[purplesub01]: im getting a bit worried if im being honest

[purplesub01]: but im sure its not too serious

[purplesub01]: hopefully

So Ace wasn't the only one not receiving responses from Dragon, he doesn't know if that’s good or bad though, but at least he doesn't have to worry that Dragon hated him for talking about the video so much… What about Sixty?

[Sixty4Gamer]: dragon told me he wanted to play heli wars with me

[Sixty4Gamer]: but he didnt join me today

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: He was offline for 2 days without telling any of us…

[Sixty4Gamer]: idk whats going on with him

At this point, even Ace started to get a bit worried. But he shook it off, maybe Dragon just lost the internet for a few days? an extended power outage? Thinking about the best case scenario and keeping his hopes up, since Dragon doesn't seem like the type to get in trouble, he has never once ranted about his living condition or anything that can be a threat to a person. They’ll get an explanation why he’s been offline when he gets back, yeah, maybe it’s just overthinking, he should enjoy his Christmas break since it’s right there, maybe Dragon will come back when the break comes for everyone.

 

And so, Ace waited, days after days…

Even after Christmas break was over… then it became weeks… and a month has already passed…

 

No… This definitely isn’t right… Dragon wouldn’t suddenly go offline without telling anyone for THIS long… Ace started to get really worried… And he’s not the only one who’s worried…

Chapter 2: Volatility

Ace couldn't get his mind off of Dragon. He tried to distract himself by playing his favorite games, continuing to talk with the gang, going on with his day like before, but the waiting game proved to be difficult. Seconds became minutes, minutes stretched into hours, hours felt like days, yet there was only complete silence from his friend even after waiting for so long.

He really missed talking to Dragon, he missed seeing his small but adorable dragon wings and tail, him talking about the Beatles, all the games he liked, building with Purple and fighting Sixty with the gears… Dragon was like the glue that helped everyone stick together.

Ace was rechecking Dragon's Roblox profile, his cursor hovered over his bio:

“If you are reading this, demons have put a curse on you! In order to reverse this, paste this into your bio and send this to your friends! If you don't send this in 10 days, you'll forget everything you know forever!”

He decided to send the same message to Sixty and Purple.

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: I was looking at dragons bio and thought it would be funny XD

[purplesub01]: oh right

[purplesub01]: was wondering why tf2 got a bit lonely, i havent seen him in forever

[purplesub01]: i really hope hes ok

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: I’m sad again :(

Ace knew he wasn't the only one being given a cold shoulder from Dragon, it was just so weird that he left them without a trace. He wanted answers, or at least a heads up before Dragon left.

He glanced again at Dragon's profile and looked at one of his games, it was updated right before he went MIA.

Ace hovered his cursor over Dragon’s games section, and joined “Dragondudes3’s Place Number: 4” With the game’s description reading:

“Just a house I built for practicing!”

 

He spawned in a somewhat decent-looking yellow house with a dark brown roof, he looked around outside the house for anything else but trees and bushes. He found a scarecrow overlooking the house garden, and it’s interactable as it has a green chatbox with a question mark on it:

“Oh, hello there! I am a scarecrow”

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: > “Hello Mr. Scarecrow!”

“The crows are very annoying these days, that’s why I am here to help these flowers grow”

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: > “You’re doing great Mr. Scarecrow!”

“I should keep paying attention now, you never know if those crows are coming back”

 

Not too far from the garden is a tree Ace spotted having crows on it, their names are dialogues that respectively say:

 

“Caw caw! We need to find a way to get rid of that scarecrow!”

“Caw caw! We’re starving for those crops!”

 

Dragon really put in quite a lot of effort into this game, yet he never really told anyone to come check it out before and after he updated it.

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Everything here looks so nice!

 

After exploring the outside for a bit, Ace decided to finally enter the house.

He was pretty blown away at first, it’s got proper furniture, windows, decorations and everything… even photo frames of his friends’ avatars. He saw his own too.

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: Its me!

 

Ace developed a bit more jealousy… First it was over Dragon’s editing skills, here it’s over building skills. Purple really taught him a lot of things, they were super close afterall… But he started to feel sad, because Dragon seems to always think about his friends, and that includes Ace himself too. He shouldn’t feel jealous, he felt… sorry for it.

Ace went outside again, looking over the scarecrow and the crows in the trees… Until he realized… Hold on…

The crows’ dialogues are now both “LOOK AT THE STARS” instead of their “Caw caw” lines that he saw earlier…

That… made Ace a little scared, did Dragon learn a bit of scripting or something…? Regardless, Ace moved his camera to look towards the sky, which was daytime and there were clouds, no stars to be seen.

He was very weirded out by this, he then noticed that some of the bushes are now gray instead of green.

He looked back at the garden, all the plants there are now grayscale, including the flowers.

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: what's going on…?

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: O_O;

 

Ace then pulled up his game menu and tried to click on the leave button, but it wouldn’t let him leave the game no matter how many times he clicked on it.

He then tried pressing Alt and F4 on his keyboard, he pressed them multiple times and nothing happened… For his last resort, he attempted to open task manager and selected Roblox before clicking End task… Nothing is working…

He started to feel his room getting slightly colder as he’s walking towards and interacting with the scarecrow he saw earlier:

“LEAVE THE GAME.”

Ace was super confused on why and how the game changed, and instead of doing what he’s suggested to do he’s trying to process what’s going on.

Moving his camera around, he saw something strange in the far distance… It appears to be some sort of dark tower…? It’s impossible to get any closer to inspect it though.

 

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: im so confu

 

Before he could finish typing, the ground turned into a dark charcoal texture, and so did the trees, everything changed into that texture. Weird sounds started playing until the game turned eerily dark, Ace’s avatar and user interfaces are now also in black and white.

The ambience was horrifying, there was weird static on certain models and the limited view due to the darkness did not help either.

Ace tried repeatedly clicking the leave button again in a panic, after he realized it still doesn’t do anything, curiosity got the better of him… He hesitantly started walking around what the game has become, it was a little cold.

 

It’s so dark, it’s so much more difficult to see where he’s going, the creepy and slowed music made him question why he’s still in this place. He kept walking around and found an area he never stumbled upon before… a bridge.

The bridge leads to outside the boundaries of the map, it definitely wasn’t here before. There are even different directions that he doesn’t know which to take, Ace just kept choosing random directions… walking for who knows how long…

Eventually the bridge comes to a stop, Ace didn’t want to head back though, but he’s still standing perfectly fine when he kept walking on the invisible part of the bridge, he just kept walking…

 

Until, a healthbar showed up, and he can finally see someone the more he approaches, it’s Dragon.

Ace shifts uncomfortably in his chair, what is Dragon even talking about?

The game window begins to slightly shake, there were static effects on both Dragon and Ace’s avatars, the black and white constrast gets stronger and harder to look at.

Ace started moving away as dragon’s text starts glitching out.

Ace started to panic. He tries spamming the leave button again to no avail.

The room gets even colder, his inputs from both his keyboard and mouse all stopped working, his avatar is stuck in one place as he frantically kept mashing his keys and clicking his mouse.

 

He watches as Dragon starts getting closer… 

and closer,

and closer,

and closer,

Until…

The screen stops, pausing itself on multiple more glitching frames.

Ace's screen flashes a bright blue.

 

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Ace was paranoid when starting up his computer again after what happened, it took some time to start it back up but thankfully his device is still as functionally healthy as before and his files were all safe and there… Just… What was that?

He opened up the home page and saw that Purple and Sixty are playing together in Purple’s hangout game, he decided to join them.

Ace turned his camera around to look for his friends while waiting for a response

Ace makes his way towards Purple and Sixty, many gears are spewing out, they’ve been messing around here for a while now.

Both Purple and Sixty turned around to look at Ace after he said that.

Ace opened his file explorer, clicking on the file where he keeps his recorded videos, he was very thankful that he had the video that showed what happened in Dragon’s game and before his computer crashed.

However… He noticed that there was also another file right next to it… Which he could’ve sworn was never there before, or ever added after he ended a recording, it was a text file named “CRASHLOGSFORACE.txt”

Out of curiosity, he opened it:

Ace just sat there in pure shock as he read the message, there’s no way this was from Dragon himself… What is “controlling” him? And he seems to be looking out for Ace by “fighting back” by whatever is holding him hostage.

If everything in that note is true, that means Dragon has been trapped somewhere this entire time, and it took Ace this long to figure it out.

 

A wave of guilt came crashing down on Ace despite it not being his fault, it all just happened so unexpectedly and without a warning, rereading the lines “PLEASE FORGIVE ME” from Dragon just makes him feel all the more guilty for not being there for him.

Ace decided to screenshot the note and immediately started editing the video, he was extremely determined to update everyone with what Dragon is truly going through, and doing it as fast as he humanly could.

 

It only took 30 minutes, probably since it’s a rather more serious video with Ace’s thoughts put on text, but it was done, now to upload this to Youtube…

Every single time Ace tries uploading the video, it wouldn’t let him, he thought it was just his

internet connection being bad but he debunked it by posting one of his gameplay videos which managed to upload normally.

Is it corrupted somehow? He clicked on the video’s properties and everything seems perfectly normal about the file, the general tab, then security… but he noticed something new when he clicked on the details tab, in the “Comments” property of the description of the video file, it says:

He followed the instruction, pulling up his Viber in the groupchat Dragon made for them, usually they would send cat videos to each other or funny Roblox gameplays, but for the first time, it is now used to send something serious.

While he waits for them to see the video and respond, Ace started wondering if Dragon himself is watching him this very moment. He found the text file note and the comments in the file… So he wanted to test something out, Ace opened up the notepad and wrote:

This is so stupid, how could Dragon be watching from the computer? Ace felt embarrassed about writing it after a bit of waiting, that is until…

Ace saved the notepad of the conversation to his files before closing it. That is when he was notified that Purple and Sixty responded to Ace’s video he sent them.

Ace closed his messaging app, all he can do now is wait until Dragon sends in directions like he said he would.

But for now, his energy is really drained from all this thinking and talking about the situation, it’s been stressing him out more than it should. For now he decided to call it a day, freshen himself up and head to bed for the night.

 

Not only was it difficult for him to fall asleep at first, when he finally did fall asleep, he saw him again.

It was exactly like when he first saw Dragon in the game with the dark starry sky and Dragon in black and white with his torn wings. Ace tried getting closer to Dragon as he seemingly curls himself from pain, the more Ace ran towards him the more distanced he felt from even reaching Dragon.

“HE WILL ALWAYS BE ALONE”

 

Ace woke up from the bad dream, he felt like he wanted to cry at that point.

Luckily for Ace, it was the weekend, but he’s tired of all this waiting game though, he also woke up earlier than usual.

After he brushed his teeth and washed his face, he turned on his computer to get back on the Roblox website and got on Dragon’s profile again, looking through his games, his badges, and his groups… One group stuck out to him in particular, it was called “~Anti-Night~”

 

What he found out later on when he looked at the group’s members, was that someone in Ace’s friendlist is also in the group, it was FliesOfTheLord. After seeing this, Ace sent him a message:

[xX4ce0fSpadesXx]: But I want to know about the Anti-night group youre in

While he waits for a response, Ace checked his files on his computer to see if there’s anything new or unusual, he opened up his notepad of his conversation with Dragon and nothing’s changed so far, he makes sure to check every single files and disks he has.

Unfortunately, he didn’t find anything new, but it was enough time that passed that he got a reply from Flies

Ace is usually a fun and patient person around everyone, he doesn’t mind when things are taking a long time to complete and he understands it. It’s just that he’s been having his patience tested for so long he really can’t stand it anymore, he wants to do something to help Dragon out of whatever it is, and he wants it to happen now, even if he knows he can’t do anything.

This time, Ace can’t keep his mind off Dragon at all, he can’t play games to pass the time in peace without thinking about the pain Dragon’s going through, he can’t stop looking at his own computer files expecting something new when there is none, and he can’t stand a simple task as waiting for a response or answer. It was his first time having something completely stress him out.

After what felt like forever, Flies finally typed something:

Now that Ace finally has a confirmed discussion with the group, he started writing down questions he’d like to ask in advance on his notepad:

 

“Is there anyone out there also going through what Dragons going through?

How and what is controlling them?

Why does it choose them?

Will they be able to return to normal?

How can we stop it?

What is with the stars?”

 

The more he thought about it, the further he was away from any possible answers and all it grew was more questions and more worrying thoughts about Dragon.

He looked back at the notepad where he got to talk to Dragon, and he couldn’t bare any more silence from him.

 

“Please hold on tight Dragon, we’ll try our best to get you out of there

Never give up, no matter what it tells you.”
