“Beautiful creature.” Jade Emperor commended the beast that was given as a gift to the celestial court, dragging a hoof and huffing, not enjoying the heavy and ornate golden reigns their creator had dressed them in– his youngest prince and princesses all flocked to the new gift instantly, forgetting their statuses in their giddy childlike nature.
“Her coat is as soft as celestial peach fuzz and the colour of shiny chestnut shells!” The Queen Mother of the West admired openly – delighted smile was not able to be contained, even her ladies in waiting and peach blossom maidens all cooed in adoration.
“But of course.” The serpent tailed primordial god could not contain his own delight at the sight of such a gift being so well received, “It is a delight to look at.”
Fuxi was loathe to mention that the creatures oddly adorable appearance, stout and short statue was simply because he failed to use the right amount of clay – with the fine arched brow and amused look from his wife had caused him to double down even more.
“For a beast of burden – it hardly seems practical.” Nezha muttered – brow furrowed and tilting his head out of curiosity, “Why, with its statue – only Sun Wukong would only be able to ride it successfully.”
“…” The celestial court all paused at the image that conjured up – even the children, already busy in offering sugar sweet peaches and chestnuts – happily offering up their snacks to the creature, had looked up to the god with his ribbon in utter delight at such an idea.
“Now then…” Nezha continued – already sensing how his comment was taken.
“He would look quite handsome upon it…” A quiet voice of a flower spirit muttered.
“He would look…one could say, even adorable.” A peach maiden admitted.
“I suppose it is only fitting that we see how it looks with our own eyes…” The Jade Emperor continued thoughtfully, considering the gift carefully.
Sun Wukong was busy tending to the mares and stallions of the royal stables in the peach tree grove – branches full of glittering celestial peaches, the smell alone of the ripe fruit would make one’s mouth water.
But Sun Wukong was able to distract himself with the job granted to him by the celestial court – the giddy giggling and cooing of the ladies of the court pulled the stone demon monkey away from the careful brushing of the pale mare with a diamond on her forehead.
The monkey demon was quick to offer a polite bow at the sight of the elusive queen entering though the stable door with her ladies of waiting.
“Sun Wukong, be at ease – we have a new member of the stables.” The Queen Mother of the West gestured for the demon to rise – Sun Wukong did, the merry spirits of the ladies were contagious with him offering an unsure smile to her.
“O-oh, well – that would be swell.” Sun Wukong hummed, “I can muck out one of the spare stables and I can get oats…”
The queen finally stepped away, revealing the new member of the royal stables.
Sun Wukong found himself eye level – or he would be, if the long mane of hair did not completely cover the eyes of the smallest horse the monkey has ever seen in his very long life.
Short legs, rotund belly – mane and tail the length that would not look odd on the other members of the stables, the fur was shaggy in places but just as shiny as the shells of chestnuts.
“Her name is Tao Hua.” The Queen Mother continued brightly, “I do hope you look after her as well as the other members of stables.”
Now, Sun Wukong was not usually one to fall to dumb silence when taken aback by something – it was more along the lines of dumb loudness.
“ITISATINYHORSE!” The demon monkey exclaimed
“Yes.” The Queen Mother nodded – a lady in waiting giggled.
“TINYHORSE!” Sun Wukong called out again – overjoyed and delighted at such a beast.
The other horses of the stable huffed and shook their own pristine manes in indignation and jealousy while their steadfast caretaker and the courtiers all showered unbridled attention to the miniature pony that looked a little confused but enjoying the attention.
Current day...
“So, besides Macaque – have you ever liked anyone else?” Mei asked suddenly, the monkey demons in question – both freezing in their meal of noodles.
“Of course not- “Mk scoffed – only to be interrupted by Sun Wukong.
“Well, there was one – when I was in the celestial courts.” The stone monkey answered.
“WHAT!?” Both Mk and Mei exclaimed out suddenly, even drawing the curiosity of Pigsy and Tang.
Macaque rolled his eyes and continued eating.
“I only loved one woman in my immortal life.” Sun Wukong continued wistfully, “And her name was Tao Hua.”
“Tao Hua?” Mk muttered – repeating the name.
“She had the shiniest of the coats, and she ate chestnuts out of my palm so gently…” Sun Wukong continued
“…What?” Mei murmured – brow furrowed.
“…” Tang froze in his own reading – looking up to the sighing monkey king.
“He is talking about a celestial horse he looked after in heaven.” Macaque finally gave context to the monkie kid group.
“Really?” Pigsy muttered.
“Yep.” Macaque popped the ‘p’ - with the air of someone who had explained this far too often than he should’ve, “She was a tiny horse – the very first one made, apparently.”
“She may have been a tiny horse, but her heart was as big as a mighty mare!” Sun Wukong continued – thumping his fists against the table in his exclamation.
Macaque did not want to think on how he almost went on a jealous rampage against the Sun Wukong’s so-called ‘ lady love’ .
Shadows whipped around furiously the dark furred monkey – thinking the worst with the heavenly forces turning on Sun Wukong, even more so on the tales of the monkey king stealing a prized princess of the celestial court.
Macaque kicking in the door, agitated.
“So, is the rumour is true.” Macaque bellowed – irate, “My mate is with another -!?”
“…” Sun Wukong looked at the dark-furred monkey with wide eyes, and the tiny horse he stole from heaven. Frozen in his mission in creating a braided plait in the silk like curtain of mane.
“…” Macaque stared at the scene – certainly not expecting this scene with how the other went on about a fine lady of the celestial court.
No, the incredibly well-fed miniature pony was not the homewrecker he imagined up in his mind.
“I can explain!” Sun Wukong exclaimed out – all the while the pony decided to chew the others fur on his head.
Macaque could not help but walk out of the room – hands raised up, but instead of leaving had turned back on his heel and entered the room once more.
“Can you?” Macaque asked – no, pleaded.
