Chapter Text
The grand halls of the Mobius Central Museum were hushed, sunlight glinting off polished display cases. In the heart of the main exhibit, the legendary Starstone of Solara pulsed with a gentle, internal light. It was an artifact of immense, untold power, and Sonic the Hedgehog couldn't shake a growing unease. He tapped his foot, his usual confident grin replaced with a thoughtful frown.
"This thing's like a trouble magnet, Tails," Sonic murmured to his twin-tailed companion, who was busy scanning the artifact with a handheld device. "Something this powerful? Someone's gonna come looking for it."
Knuckles, the ever-vigilant guardian, stood with his arms crossed, his crimson fur bristling. "Let them try. Nothing gets past me." Amy Rose admired a nearby painting of ancient heroes, while Cream the Rabbit, with Cheese the Chao hovering faithfully by her side, looked at the Starstone with wide, innocent eyes.
Sonic's premonition proved true with terrifying speed. A deafening explosion ripped through the museum's ornate ceiling. Dust and debris rained down as three figures landed amidst the chaos. Two were unpleasantly familiar: Rough and Tumble, the skunk brothers, their brutish grins promising trouble. Flanking them, however, was a new, imposing figure – a chinchilla with cold, calculating eyes, clad in a sleek, technologically advanced suit that crackled with barely contained energy.
"Well, well, what have we here?" the chinchilla drawled, her voice a low, menacing hum. "Thunderbolt, at your service. And we're here for the Starstone."
"Not if I can help it!" Knuckles roared, lunging forward. He prided himself on his ability to protect anything, and the audacity of these thieves ignited his fury.
The museum erupted into a battlefield. Rough and Tumble, clearly emboldened by their new leader, fought with a surprising degree of coordination. Tumble’s brute strength sent display cases crashing, while Rough’s surprising agility kept Amy and Cream on their toes. Tails launched a series of well-aimed dummy rings, trying to create an opening, but Thunderbolt was a whirlwind of motion, her movements precise and deadly. She effortlessly dodged Knuckles' powerful blows, countering with blasts of energy from gauntlets on her wrists. The echidna, outmaneuvered and outsmarted, grew increasingly frustrated.
With a sudden, coordinated maneuver, Thunderbolt unleashed a disorienting sonic pulse from her suit, momentarily stunning Sonic and his friends. In that instant, Rough snatched the Starstone from its pedestal. An shimmering escape portal, generated by a device on Thunderbolt’s wrist, crackled into existence behind them.
"Pleasure doing business with you, heroes!" Thunderbolt sneered as she and the skunk brothers leaped through the portal, which winked out of existence, leaving behind a scene of destruction and the blaring wail of alarms.
Silence fell, broken only by Knuckles slamming his fist into a reinforced wall, the impact echoing his rage. "She… she got the better of me! That chinchilla! They got away with it!" His voice was thick with anger and a rare hint of shame. He was the guardian, the protector; this failure cut deep. "I swear, I'll hunt them to the ends of Mobius! That Starstone will be recovered!"
Sonic placed a reassuring hand on his friend's shoulder. "We're with you, Knux. We can't let them keep that artifact. There's no telling what kind of damage they could do with that kind of power." His eyes narrowed with grim determination. "Let's go get it back."
