Chapter 1: New Business at the Moon

Chapter Text

After they left the Cavendish Estate that Friday evening, with a heavy heart and more questions than answers in their minds, Usagi and her friends went right to the Moon, Mariana couldn’t go with them because she was spending that week with her grandma and parents.

Usagi was determined to make the next weekend perfect for her just found relative, and she would make sure Bernadette would have the best time possible with them. Purity apparently agreed with her because the first thing she did as they arrived at the palace, was talk with the maids.

Purity stood in the middle of the entrance hall, all the employees who had just welcomed them back gazing the older woman intently.

“We have a very important mission during the week.” Purity announced.

Usagi and the others had to bite their lower lips to no interrupt with a burst of laughter, but the acting queen felt her heart melting, seeing the dedication and love her dearest friend was showing.

“Next weekend a descendant of our Former Queen Serenity’s cousin Beatrix, Bernadette…” Purity announced and was interrupted by gasps of  delight and joy. “Is coming. We must prepare her accommodations and  enjoyable activities during her stay.”

The yelps of happiness and celebration echoed around the hall, the genuine smiles and glow in their eyes were a lot more than Usagi could want to see, she couldn’t be happier with the reactions of her people, not surprising, she knew how much they loved Beatrix when she was alive and would visit, Usagi was sure the treatment to Bernadette would be just the same.

“Man, I just had a DeJa’Vu!” Minako joked.

“I know, the excitement was just the same whenever we would welcome cousin Beatrix at the palace, everyone would get overjoyed.” Usagi confirmed and stood beside Purity. “I am glad to see the love is still there.” The princess said playfully, the others cracked a laugh. “Bernadette is the new head of the Cavendish family and she is a very busy woman just like my dear cousin back in the past. So, all I ask is your help to take part of the burden and pressure she has been carrying from her shoulders.”

“Don’t worry, Serenity. We will show her in this first visit the best things the White Moon has to offer, so she will get excited to keep returning for more visits.” Jeannet assured the princess.

“Thanks, I want to help her take her mind of things.” Usagi explained. “And maybe…”

“Maybe?” Rei asked.

“Something that came into my mind, but right now, let’s just prepare an entertaining weekend for her, alright?” Usagi asked the others nodded sharply with determination in their eyes.

“Serenity, whenever your cousin Beatrix would spend the weekends at the palace, Anthea and I were the ones who would take care of her chambers.” Mabel reminded the princess, Anthea who was standing right next to her nodded sharply confirming the statement. “If you would like… we can do the same this time.”

“Thank you girls, you have no idea how much I appreciate your help, let’s go upstairs and choose the perfect chamber for her to stay, also one to her daughter when Diana-chan is born.”

“Diana-chan’s chambers is the one on Akko’s left,  and Ichigo-chan on her right.” Setsuna mentioned.

“If you want to give mine to Bernadette, now I moved to Ami’s, I am more than happy to do so.” Makoto said firmly. “I just should take the old clothes from the dressing room, maybe prepare a box for donation, the ones with children size.”

“Are you sure Mako-chan?” Usagi asked, her voice broke.

The taller girl nodded and shrugged. “I won’t use it anymore, you know. So why not give the room to someone else and donate the clothes.” Makoto wondered.

“Make sure to keep some for your own children, I am doing the same with mine, donating some and others I am keeping for my girls.” Rei stated.

“Same here.” Ami and Usagi said at the same time.

“Maybe I should do the same.” Minako considered.

They went upstairs, Usagi couldn’t be more excited for the next weekend, they decided to start preparing not just Bernadette’s but Ringo’s, Hinata’s and Yume’s rooms, now it was already summer break, even though the plan was making the alliances, they also wanted to spend as much time at the palace as possible.

Purity and the maids went to the laundry room get cleaning supplies, while the girls went to the chambers already opening the doors and windows to airy everything, verify on the dressing rooms to make sure it had formal clothes and put everything on baskets to clean later.

“Usa, what do you think I give my bedroom to ChibiUsa?” Rei commented. “This way Akko doesn’t have to move from hers.”

“If that is what you want, you definitely have my full support.” Usagi told her.

“Apparently the bedrooms god also agreed, look!” Hotaru exclaimed, her eyes widening as she pointed at the doors from the bedroom they mentioned. “Makoto’s room already have Bernadette’s name on the door.”

The group dropped the clothes inside the basket and rushed outside piling up in front of the door. Their smile brightened seeing the name on the door, it was definitely a good sight.

“It feels good, doesn’t it?” Makoto commented.

Setsuna nodded, her eyes softened. “That future is slowly taking form.” She murmured.

“Well let’s go back to work before the room itself start to change too.” Haruka stated.

Haruka and Michiru had been opening their mind a lot about many things that scared them in the past, and the young princess couldn’t be more grateful to that. So, she stopped the women before they went inside.

“Haruka-san, Michiru-san…” Usagi said softly. “thank you… I know witchcraft and magic used to scare you… but thank you so much for embracing this side of the Moon and my family…”

“After you told me your cousin used to be healer, and getting to know Bernadette in person, also meeting Purity all those months ago, learning from her… I understood not all of it is black and white, I know dark magic will keep existing, I know we must be careful with those we meet, but it goes to everyone, including ordinary people.” Haruka stated.

“We  just need to start a relationship slowly and not trust anyone right way, get to know them first before giving our verdict about them.” Michiru commented.

“You aren’t alone on that Michi.” Haruka admitted.

“Took me years but I finally could understand to not let my trauma cloud my judgement. I thank you for that, girls… it was really disturbing not trusting people and make a bad judgement over them.” She stated, gently wrapping Hotaru’s shoulders. “I almost made a mistake I would regret for life if I didn’t listen to you.” She told Usagi.

“Yeah, we wouldn’t have our daughter with us now.” Setsuna commented.

Usagi nodded, and a single tear escaped from her right eye, she brushed and they walked inside the room, continue doing the task they took for themselves. Of course, they also did the same for the other rooms, all the maids would put their best works on the bedrooms for the guests.

On Saturday they went at the town, after signing the alliance with the Emperor from Japan, they finally could start signing the first contracts,  Amara and Minako’s parents, pretty much jumped in before the girls could even open their mouths.

And many of the  new employees of those business were already moving at the Moon, including Jennifer Cameron they met in New York back in April when she was being held under a knife in an alley and Usagi didn’t think twice before offering a job. The woman was the first they contacted, and she moved right way to Serenade Village, House 104, right next to Mariana

From the street they could see how busy was  Spices, with many waiters and waitresses wearing the uniform from the kingdom a long white dress and silver apron, for the women and white trousers and white shirt covered by silver vest for the men, balancing trays on their hands while walking around the dining area, taking requests and serving the food.

“To think two months ago I was freaking out trying to give the right order to each costumer.” Monica commented a soft smile on her lips.

“Now the health department finally gave the certificate and we are officially open for business.” Dani commented a triumphant smile on her lips.

“And I finally could give my notice and start working at Spices.” Scarlet said punching the air celebrating. “But thank you for insisting I should wait.”

“I wanted to have at least a doctor working in here so you wouldn’t have to go back to Earth in case something happened.” Usagi explained.

“We could understand that, after Be got sick.” Francis admitted.

“It’s amazing how big Be is already, isn’t it?” Setsuna commented glancing inside, where Breanna and Eve were eating a burger.

“And she got to adapt really quickly. Besides, my parents started to visit after Be recovered and they shyly asked Doctor Saeko to look over their health too.” Franciss confided. “But threatened me to never tell that to the elder.”

“At least, now they are opening their minds and understanding how important is to visit a doctor.” Rei commented.

Saeko was also at the town, stopping for a snack that afternoon, when she heard what the group was talking, she decided to give her own opinion on the subject.

“Now I moved at the Moon and have been listening so much from everyone how life was here, I have been studying the Celtic medicine and how used to be before modern medicine was invented, and I realize both come from the same base, natural ingredients, so both can work together very well if you are willing.” Saeko mentioned.

“Saeko sensei! I am so happy you said that!” Usagi exclaimed, her eyes glowing in delight. “You know my cousin Beatrix used to be a healer, right?”

“I do, we actually put a  portrait of hers at  the Healer/med area so much everyone keep talking about her.” Saeko commented playfully.

Usagi nodded sharply. “She used to teach the healers who worked here at the palace, ions ago.” She commented.

The girls gasped, eyes widening. “Usa, is that what you are planning?” Rei asked.

“I want to see if Bernadette is up to teach the healers we may hire the second we strength the bond with the witch community, maybe even sometimes when she isn’t too busy, she could work with us, help in here.” Usagi confided. “I wanted to see with you if you were willing to give it a shot, accept help from healers here at the kingdom.”

“Usagi-san… I have no doubt Bernadette will be really excited with the offer.” Setsuna commented.

“Also am I, really excited to learn more and work with them, I have no doubt we could make a great team, to treat common illness work with Celtic medicine, and more complex diseases we work with modern one.” Saeko suggested.

“I am sure it could make a lot difference around here, and on Earth as well.” Setsuna mentioned. “I think we must consider that as a possibility Usagi.”

“I sure agree.” Ami stated, a hopeful smile spread on her face. “It will be really exciting, won’t it?”

“I have no doubt.” Usagi confirmed.

“Are you going inside?” Dani asked.

“Not yet, we were hoping to see how things are doing around here, besides Spices we already have an architecture office, engineer office and accountant office.” Minako mentioned.

“Oh yeah! Miss Cameron is having a blast working in here.” Scarlet mentioned. “She asked if she could visit the archives because she wants to  see how the business here would support itself, and how was the profit per year before start hiring the contractors and everyone to start the rebuilding, I am helping her.”

“Now that is good news. Are you getting along well Scar?” Usagi asked.

“We are, she is from New York told me how you both met.” Scarlet confided.

Usagi and Rei had an awkward smile on their lips. “That’s how Sailor “Cab” Moon was born” Rei mentioned, making the others crack a laugh.

“She did mention you gave her a ride!” The red head stated.

The commercial building where Amara had settled her Architecture  office wasn’t big, it had three floors with many rooms and front desk, few pastel cream chairs, where clients would seat and wait.

“It is really cute, isn’t it?” Usagi commented.

“It is, and light everyone’s mood whenever they come inside. Welcome to Amara Makeover Architecture office, My Princess and warriors.”  Amara greeted with a proud smile, her eyes glowing with joy.

Usagi made a reverence, a teasing smile on her lips. “Thank you Amara, and congratulations on building the first architecture office from the White Moon.” She said playfully. “Now you have an entire kingdom to plan as you imagine, and leave the palace as it is!”

They burst into laughter, including Amara herself. “I have at least a year plans for the villages already, than make sure we build them in the way we all visualized. Serenity you have no idea how many people showed up at the office since I opened the doors for business.” She confided.

“I am happy to know that, are you already hiring a team or you are waiting for our accountants finish studying those papers?” Usagi asked.

“I am waiting for them, and while I wait I am researching online for newbies who are willing to send their curriculum and move, or at least work at the moon.” She mentioned. “It is a brand new world of possibilities, they will have a job for a really long time in here.”

“I know, and we have a lot people moving already, everyone who is working at the administration from the palace, and don’t have partners or don’t live with family members already are returning to their old homes.” Setsuna mentioned.

“Yup, we also have Jennifer Cameron who is on house 107 at Serenade village.” Rei reminded.

“And my parents who decided to move at house 105 since they have their own office here at the Moon already.” Minako stated gleefully.

“Soon we will need to start praying for the gods give us more villages, just saying.” Amara commented, making everyone nod and laugh aloud.

“Can you believe how much we already did, so much improvement since we made the decision to return to the Moon?” Usagi commented. “I have no regrets on rushing our plans, and I even got to meet my cousin.”

Amara narrowed her eyes “Cousin?” She asked.

“A descendant from Beatrix, her name is Bernadette.” Makoto mentioned.

“Now that is even more amazing.” Amara confirmed. “I am hopeful for the future of the Kingdom.”

“How is it working both in here and Earth?” Ami asked. “One day I may do the same.”

“It is easy because I have a very good team who work with me, so it is great, I can spend more time here than there.” She clarified.

“Well, that is good news, but you know, if you need to spend more time there, you can, it will take some time to start the rebuilding.” Usagi mentioned.

“Trust me, that is the thing, I have more time to come up with the projects for the clinics, since it is just me I can focus just on that.” She stated.

“Just don’t force yourself too much, okay?” Usagi asked, the older woman nodded with a soft smile.

Their next stop was on the accountant office, Jennifer Cameron was the one who opened the door for them even though she had her own receptionist. The smile spread on the blonde’s face and her crystal green eyes glimmered when she saw the younger women coming in.

Cameron lit up. “My saviors!” She exclaimed cheerfully, and the girls cracked a laugh. “Welcome to the first accountant office from the White Moon. It still doesn’t have a name but me and Scar have some ideas already.”

“Really?” Rei asked. “So, you both will balance between here and Spices?”

“Pretty much that, until I have a team working around here Scarlet offered to show me the Moon ways, we are getting along well.” She confided and turned to the receptionist who was working behind the front desk. “This is my cousin Betty, she is doing administration at University.”

The young woman, a beautiful brunette with her body in shape, and green eyes like her older cousin a little older than Usagi, Rei, Makoto and Ami, walked around the desk and greeted the group.

“Nice to finally meet you, Jen is always talking about you girls.” She confided, shaking their hands. “Thank you so much for such an opportunity.”

“Happy to finally meet you in person, we were just waiting to have at least an alliance signed so we could start hiring people and open more business around the town, Jennifer-san gave me your name when we finally called her to sign her contract.” Usagi explained. “Sorry it took us so long.”

“I get why, you were busy with university during the day and patrolling during the night.” Jenniffer said playfully. “We watch the news every night you know? We would look forward to the next life you girls would save, and the next landmark we would see.”

They burst into nervous giggles, scratching the back of their heads. “It became an entertainment watching the night news.” Betty admitted.

“I can imagine.” Makoto confirmed. “We always look forward to watch the news from Japan, we go to the cinema at the embassy with popcorn and all the employees join us.”

“Like a tv show?” Rei mocked.

“Nope, it is more like a Magical girl live action based on manga.” Betty stated, and shocked her hand with Jennifer’s in a high five.

“Pretty much that.” Jennifer confirmed. “Would you like to look around?”

“I would love that!” Usagi stated.

The six women crossed the reception towards the door that would take them to the rooms inside. The last one was the engineer office, where Minako’s parents were working.

Minako was already there when they walked inside, Hayato and Mayumi welcomed the girls with juice and snacks, a bright smile on their faces, they took the girls to the second floor where their office was.

The room was well decorated and furnished with a set of couch and armchairs, and two desks a brown arm chair behind the desks and four chairs in front , they could see against the walls cabinets with many books and two doors one leading to a kitchen and the other to a bathroom.

“Have a seat girls.” Hayato invited.

“Thanks.” Rei said softly and they sat down on the comfortable chairs.

“Girls, that was the best decision we made, working in her.” Mayumi commented

“No doubt about that, we have been working with Amara-san and Saeko-sensei on the projects to the clinics, you know? I have no doubt you will be very happy when you see it ready.” Hayato commented.

“I can’t wait to see it all.” Ami confided, her smile brightening.

“And Miss Sharon is hopeful now with the alliances, she wants to open a space for survivors of abuse in here.” Mayumi mentioned.

Rei nodded in confirmation her jaw was tense “She told us what really happened when she woke up at the hospital, how her husband would abuse her and her daughter, the fear she had to return home. We got to convince a lot of people to let them move in here because would be safer for both.” Rei remembered.

“Exactly,  when Leslie-chan walked inside the house, she looked at us, hope in her eyes and asked if he couldn’t hurt them now, I felt my heart break.” Minako confided.

“It wasn’t just you, MinaP, trust me. The fear in their eyes broke me.” Usagi admitted.

“We must make a rehabilitation center at the hospital for those people, the survivors.” Makoto stated.

“Yeah, at least the council building  will be used for something positive at the Moon.” Rei stated.

“Yeah, it will be able to make the difference , and will offer a lot of jobs to a lot of people just by opening the hospital in here.” Ami mentioned.

“Putting the Moon on the map is already doing so, it is a fresh start to everyone who needs it.” Minako stated and the others nodded sharply.

“True, why don’t we all take a break and we go celebrate at Spices?” Hayato suggested. “I pay!”

“Let’s do it!” The girls cheered up.

They went back to the street, it was already middle of the afternoon, many new citizens who were already living at the moon, and those who were just spending their vacations, even the ones who were working at the palace were all around the town going inside the tavern have an afternoon snack.

It was starting to get colder at the Moon, so the  fire burning at the fireplace was very welcoming, Usagi asked her favorite winter snack, a slice of strawberry chocolate pie and hot chocolate, made with the choco fruit that would grow the entire year.

Usagi took a sip feeling the thick, sweet drink warming her entire body and probably her soul along with it, she closed her eyes letting the delicious taste of chocolate settle in her mouth.

“Now that is the best feeling!” She commented.

“I really love how delicious is our choco fruit, it has the taste of chocolate  but is way healthier.” Ami commented cutting a slice of her pie.

“We can eat all we want and won’t feel guilty about it later, for sure.” Makoto agreed.

Minako held her mug. “Let’s cheer on that!”

All of them raised their mugs and cheered aloud, all the costumers did the same, even if they didn’t have a clue of what they were cheering about.

Usagi was really excited with all the improvement they could do in the kingdom with such short time, but she couldn’t wait for the weekend, when they would finally welcome her cousin at the palace that weekend.

When they were already at the road walking towards the gates of the palace, the girls heard a cheerful squawk and a loud groan storming at the sky, they shared a gaze, their eyes widening and glowing with excitement, they ran towards the gates, when they walked inside, Usagi felt her heart pound against her throat, the others had tears on their eyes.

A silver dragon with friendly warming eyes was cheerfully racing a  golden griffin, the transformation was intuitive, her body was moving on the speed of the light, tears falling in cascades, the silver hair whipping her back. She stood at the middle of the front yard, making a shell with her hands in front of her mouth, her blue eyes glimmering she looked up.

“Moony!” Serenity exclaimed, her voice breaking.

She waved and the Moonlight dragon turned its entire body, and flew in full speed landing heavily on the ground, the princess with no fear or hesitation, just her hands shaking, walked confidently close to the dragon, wrapping its neck in a tight hug.

“I missed you so much old friend.” She murmured.

The dragon wrapped her with the long white wings tossing her right on his flanks taking off, flying on top of the palace, everyone on the ground yelping in delight waving at the sky, even taking pictures with cameras or recording the video with their heart compacts.

Purity rushed outside just to find the golden griffin chasing after the dragon. “All I needed was to have that mutant eagle paying a visit here of all places!” She exclaimed, but her smile brightened.

“New friend Purity?” Minako mocked.

“My worst nightmare Minako-san.” Purity admitted and summoned her broom. “Like I didn’t have anything better to do other than play tag with an overweight eagle!”

The girls burst into laughter, and with a bright smile they ran to the  stable get the five Pegasi, excited to play with them, when they returned Purity was already hopping on  the griffin, racing Usagi on the dragon.

“It will be a very exciting summer, won’t it?” Rei said playfully, not even remembering she was afraid of highs.

When they finally landed on the ground and Usagi could give a good look on the griffin, she gazed Purity with pleading eyes, the woman already predicting what was coming just dropped her shoulders in defeat.

Usagi was gently stroking the neck of the golden animal, who was comfortably laying down on the grass, with the beak open and belly exposed. “Can we keep him? He could live with the others at the reserve, right?”

“And if we think about it… there is no way for hunters find the big guy if he stays with us, everyone who comes inside, must be invited and authorized by us, government officiers from the country, and police, which means, it is the safest place for a magic creature.” Makoto pointed out, wisely.

“Yup, and Moony also loved him, along with Usagi.” Rei commented stroking the griffins belly.

“Yup, just Moony and Usagi-chan, right Rei-chan?” Ami mocked.

“You got what I meant!”  Rei complained.

“We do, and I have no doubt he also liked it in here, imagine how popular it will become with children!” Minako commented. “We already know it loves to play.”

“Maybe, Aslan was actually looking for you, Purity. It was you who rescued him, right?” Usagi assumed.

Rei narrowed her eyes “Aslan?”

Usagi nodded, her smile brightened. “It reminded me of the lion from Chronicles of Narnia, you know?” She admitted.

“Yes, I was the one who rescued him, so you may have a point. I guess you are right… I’ll make a call, but don’t get excited yet.” She said firmly seeing the girls eyes glowing with enthusiasm.

Purity made the call and for her frustration and never confirmed delight, she got the authorization to keep Aslan, as Usagi named it, with them at the reserve since they promised to be careful with anyone they invited to visit the kingdom.

Purity would never confirm or deny, but she got really fond to the overweight mutant eagle and was happy to have the little beast with them at the Moon, she was pretty sure Usagi would get excited to take him and Moony for flights around Earth, or even go play tag with the solar blast at the sky.
