Chapter Text
If Danny was being honest, this was not how she wanted to spend her day. Especially after taking down a group of cultists hellbent on trying to summon the ‘Demon King’, honestly what a load of absolute bullshit. Did they honestly think she'd be flattered by the fact they disemboweled 12 little kids and shoved their organs into jars as a sacrifice to summon her?! She was The Ghost Queen for a reason, these cultists wanted justice they said, she gave them their justice leaving their bodies soules and dragging their soul into the dungens of the Infinity Realms where she’d left them for Fright Knights version of torture.
All she wanted to do now after dealing with that mess was take an honest to god nap, one where her heart didn't have to keep beating. She was that tired.
“Honestly, I don’t know how I'm gonna keep up this is tiring”, Danny mumbles as she stands on the rooftop of a warehouse, observing the police vehicles finding not only the bodies of the cultists but the bodies of the kids as well.
One of the cops gags as he opens one of the jars realizing the kids' innards were stuffed inside, at the same time as another cop nearly throws up after turning a kid face side up and realizes her stomach cavity was exposed, organs missing. The cops talk among each other as they discuss how to ID their victims and the cultists.
Danny turned her head, feeling a hand touching her thigh.
“Can we go now?”, the little ghost girl pulls at her hazmat pants.
“Yeah kid, let's go”.
Danny gestured for the kids to follow, creating a portal with the ambient Ectoplasm of Gotham City, into the Infinity Realms. Danny dropped off the kids with the Lunch Lady, she was crazy sure, but who in the infinity realms wasn’t. At least she could tone down her obsession while in the company of exceedingly traumatized baby spirits.
Heading into her workroom she was surprised by Clockwork's presence.
“Clockwork! Long time no see.”
“Champion. I see you've had your first venture into Gotham city's worst corner. Park Row”.
“Isn't it Crime Alley?”
“Yes, Park Row is typically called that by its residents, the elite though call it Park Row”
“Well, what about it? I mean besides the crazies I just had to beat up and rip their souls from their body?”
“Lady Gotham seeked an audience with me some time ago, asking for some sort of assistance for her knights as a malignant presence that has been plaguing her since the beginning has started to grow in power. She fears if it grows too strong, her knights won’t be able to defeat it.”
Danny turned her head in attention, brows furrowed as she realized he had made an offer to Lady Gotham that the form of assist was gonna be her. Typical. “And I’m going to be the one to help aren’t I? God can’t I have one week, maybe even just one day of rest?!”
“No.” Clockwork deadpanned.
“Screw you.”
“No thank you. I am in a very committed relationship with myself. Now as for your identity, would you like to be a university student, a corporate worker, or a cafe owner? Pick one of these three; these are what I have corroborated would work the best in Lady Gotham's domain to meet her knights.”
Danny thought about her options: student, office worker, or barista. Being a student meant being able to relate more to her sister Jazz who was finishing up her masters degree, but it also meant HW, a bigger load to shoulder along with her work queen so that was thrown out. Being a corporate office worker was also out, she was already doing a lot of paperwork, especially since it was backtracked a few hundred years because Dark Pariah did not believe it was necessary during his reign as Ghost King. Also the paperwork had to be done by hand, if she weren't a ghost she believed she would've gotten carpal tunnel by now, seriously she was trying to modernize everything in the infinity realms and apparently old ghosts don't believe in technology. The lot of them. She was definitely gonna be a barista.
“Cafe owner, but with modernized everything, no way am i gonna be caught writing everything by hand, my Hands Hurt! I'm a freaking Ghost and my Hands Hurt?!!”
“Very well, my chosen off you shall go”
“Wait! Right now!? Don’t I need to be PREPA— !”
Danny was sucked into a black and green vortex that shined a sickly gold along its edges, Clockwork looked very smug as she was dragged.
