Man among angels

Chapter 2: No regrets ch1

Chapter Text

How tired he was of all this, Adam could only rub his forehead in irritation and sigh tiredly. He could not understand how this whole situation could have escalated so much in just a couple of months? First, a few months ago, the princess of hell came to his embassy with her stupid idea of redemption, and now the supreme angels sigh in disappointment looking at him, and also at the heavenly court together with Charlotte was Vaggie, once his faithful soldier, and what's worst of all, Emily is angry and offended at him!

A few months ago, he didn't know what to expect when the very daughter of the Morningstar traitors came to him with such a crazy idea that no one had thought of before.
This was a girl he could only occasionally hear about, but never see.

He was surprised when he was told that Morningstar wanted to send his daughter to the meeting instead of himself. Adam, of course, was in a stupor and did not know why Satan decided to do this. But he definitely did not want to go there, because what difference did it make? For all these 10 thousand years since the exterminations began, he preferred not to go to the meetings that took place after the day in which he and his loyal exorcists arranged the genocide of sinful souls (as if he wanted to see Morningstar's smug face) and preferred to send his assistants there and always rejected the devil's ideas to meet in person, and he in turn did not ask for a meeting twice at once. But when his loyal assistant and lieutenant Lute reminded him that the king of hell insisted on his presence and, in extreme cases, threatened to personally contact Sera with a complaint that he was not fully fulfilling his duty, he had to change his mind and still show up at the angelic embassy.
"What a bastard...why would he do that?"

And finally he met her, Charlotte Morningstar princess of hell. She was literally the exact copy of her father, all the same color and shape of hair, ruby eyes, snow-white skin and large red spots on both cheeks. It seemed like she was a female version of the Elder Morningstar, god even the height was the same.

Looking at this girl, he couldn't help but wonder who she was from? When he first learned from the whispering supreme angels about a certain princess of hell Charlotte Morningstar, Archangel Gabriel himself told him that she was the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith... Lucifer and Lilith...
Thoughts of doubt did not leave his head, because after Eden Lilith could not... although it was not important, and it was unlikely that the blond Archangel and someone from above wanted to answer his questions.

And finally they met. From the first minutes it seemed the girl was extremely cheerful and frivolous, a huge shining smile adorned her face. From the first minutes Charlotte made it clear to Adam that she was very different from her parents, it seemed this girl had nothing in common with Lucifer and Lilith except appearance.

-Hi, my name is Charlotte Morningstar, but you can call me Charlie. You have no idea how happy I am to meet the angels.

Having said this with a wide smile, the princess extended her hand to the angel for a handshake. But the gloomy man in front of her remained as cold and unshakable as ever, it seemed he did not want to touch her at all, while there was no hatred or contempt in his gaze, only cold indifference.

- Hello Charlotte Morningstar.
The angel greeted her with respect, folding his hands into a lock.

"What a short-winded one"

Behind him was another angel, the situation seemed even worse, a woman in silver armor, with snow-white hair, was silent and did not say a word, but looked at Charlie with a look full of hatred and contempt, as if she was looking at a pile of garbage. It felt like she could break loose at any moment and cut Charlie's throat.

- ok...let's not waste time and get straight to the point...
Taking a deep breath, she continued with her signature smile.

- I wanted to introduce you to my grand project that probably no one has thought of for thousands of years in this hellhole and I am sure that you will be interested in it...
Charlotte said with some intrigue in her voice
.
Adam slightly raised his gaze and indicated that he was interested and that she could continue. Adam was surprised at himself, but what could he do if the princess of hell herself, about whom he had slightly heard, wanted to present him with a "grand project."

He didn't want to come at first, but what could he do, the work had to be done, he was obliged to come here and submit reports after each day of extermination.
As for the princess... Adam still doubted her, she seemed too... bright for a demon from hell.

"I don't understand psychology well, but even I understand that this girl can't be trusted, because this kind and frivolous behavior can only be a lying mask behind which a two-faced bitch is hiding"

-You come here to hell every year to exterminate sinners and keep their population under control. I'm sure that even angels can get tired from such hard work and you will also need rest, so I...

Before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by an angel with white hair.

-angels don't get tired and we don't need rest

She said with the same contempt in her eyes.

-and you are demonic...

-Lut...

Before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by the commander’s firm voice.

-Don't interrupt her.

The man said the same indifferently, and upon hearing his words, the warrior immediately obeyed and, under the authority of her leader, quickly shut up.

-You may continue, Miss Morningstar.

"Hah, they are so creepy..."

- I wanted to introduce you to a project with which we can control the population of sinners without extermination, and you angels can take a break from your hard work.
This time her words sounded more uncertain, although you can’t blame her for that.

-And what is this?

Adam had to admit it, he was interested in what Charlie could offer him.

- atonement in my Hazbin hotel, where sinners can atone for their sins and go to heaven, then you won't have to dirty your hands with blood and you can truly help sinners and do good deeds!

- Just imagine, sinners will be able to redeem themselves and go to heaven, then all these annual exterminations will stop and angels and Demons will be able to live in peace and harmony!

Charlie said more confidently and with a happier smile.
Hearing these words, Adam and Lute looked at each other in bewilderment.

Timeskip

When Adam heard the topic of their discussion...the redemption of sinners by undergoing rehabilitation at the "hazbin hotel"?
Redemption of sinners? What idiocy! As if it were possible... in all 300 thousand years of the existence of hell and the circle of pride, not a single human soul was redeemed from there and got into heaven through the pearly gates, as Adam himself did and all the other souls of his descendants in heaven. And she really thinks that in all these years something could have changed?
At this point, Adam was already busy in a heated discussion with Charlotte, trying to prove to her that her idea was pure stupidity and nothing more.
Their loud argument had been going on for some time now, with Adam and Charlie doing most of the talking, while Lute stood quietly and did not interfere as her commander had ordered.

- the fact that no one has been able to do this for all this time does not mean that redemption is impossible! Think about the fact that there may be another way to solve problems, to give sinners a second chance, to prove to them that it is possible to correct themselves and deserve a better end!

Charlie didn't let up and continued to argue with the head exorcist, because she was not one to give up quickly. She had already started organizing her project and was not going to stop at the beginning of her long journey.

- It's impossible! After all, this is God's commandment! After death, sinners go to hell and the righteous who lived a good life go to heaven, this is an ironclad rule that cannot be changed!

Adam, to his own surprise, was irritated.
This princess was so stupid that she did not understand the most common logic: if a person sinned during his life, he would go to hell, if he lived a correct life, he would go to heaven. What is so difficult about understanding this and accepting simple logic?

- because God said so?

Charlie, with the same rebellious ideas of her father, seemed to not want to accept what, in Adam's opinion, was a simple truth that everyone had to come to terms with.

- YES! EXACTLY! And we MUST follow these rules! No matter how cruel and unfair they were for someone, EVERYONE without exception must follow the rules!

Adam himself did not expect that he could get so angry over such a trivial reason. He came to simply pick up reports and warn about changes in the schedule, because that was what had to be done at the annual meetings after the extermination. But unfortunately, he was forced to lead a discussion about a topic that he simply did not want to think about and was extremely irritated by this annoying girl.

- but among these souls there may be those who repent of the mistakes they made! Those who understand the gravity and wrongness of their choice....people can repent in churches, mosques and synagogues, right? And for sincere repentance God forgives them, the same should work here!! If a sinner sincerely and wholeheartedly acknowledged his mistakes and works to improve, he deserves a second chance! Everyone deserves a second chance, because everyone makes mistakes and changes!

- This is only possible for living people Charlotte!! After death there will be no second chance, because God gave only one life as a test and if a person went to hell then he wasted this life! So sinners will just have to accept it, and if they don't like it then they have a chance to get a quick and merciful death from our blades!

How irritated Adam was, he urgently wanted to leave, or at least finally push the princess out of this room. With each passing minute, sitting in the same room with her was becoming impossible.

Unpleasant memories and thoughts constantly made themselves known.

"Get out of this room, get out of the embassy, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"
While Adam was tormented by thoughts and memories, Charlie continued the heated argument.

- but it's too cruel and inhumane! Sinners should get a chance to correct their mistakes, although not all of them deserve it, but still, at least someone should get a second chance, because there are no people who don’t make mistakes!

- maybe... but as I already said, there is only one chance to get to heaven or hell. If a person after death and the supreme judgment got to hell, then he deserved it and he will just have to accept it, because the ways of God are inscrutable!

Adam had already come to terms with this and wanted Charlie to just accept it and live with it, just like he did, instead of going against the system.

- But what about atheists then? After all, those who rejected God but were good people and could help others can go to hell! Can a good person really go to hell for not believing in God? Have you never thought about the fact that people could go to hell for suicide and atheism? Tell me, is this fair? Do angels really care so much about human souls?!?!?

Charlie didn't calm down and didn't want to give up so quickly, which really got on Adam's nerves, it seemed like he could lose his temper at any moment and just push her out the door.

-shut up...

- No!! You angels decide the fates of billions of human souls, but do you even know what it is like to be human, do you know what it is like to sin and make mistakes? Do you know what it is like to be in the place of human souls whose fates you decide?

This time Adam couldn't take it anymore.
- Don't you dare tell me about it!! Do you think I don't understand them? Do you think I don't know what it's like to be a human??? I know what it's like better than you do!!

Adam stood up from his seat and walked quickly to the chair where Charlie was sitting. It seemed that the girl did not expect this and looked up at the enraged angel with fear.

- I myself was a man!! Created from the dust of the earth, I lived and was a man!! I loved, feared and hated! I made thousands of mistakes for which I still regret!! I literally watched my children die and then reconciled myself to the fact that some of them could not get to heaven like me!

Frightened by Charlie's screams, all she could do was sit still and take his words in. Wait...did she hear him say "made of dust"?

- Do you think I don't know what it's like to sin?? I'm one of the first sinners who tasted the forbidden fruit!!! And this is not my only sin, I've made thousands of mistakes in my long life and regretted it thousands of times!

-All my life on earth, day and night I prayed to God, tried to live the right life according to God's commandments and for this I was redeemed and received a place in heaven!! So don't tell me what it's like to be a human, you... demon spawn!!!

It seemed like he finally calmed down and let off some steam.

"Guess..."

-Created from the dust of the earth and having tasted the forbidden fruit?...You are Adam...
Finally the princess realized it.

Adam took a slow breath and suddenly pulled Charlie's hand so fast that she couldn't even react and quickly pushed her out the door.

- oh fuck...

Charlie collapsed to the floor and looked forward to see Adam's large figure looming over her.

- Sorry, I have some urgent matters to attend to.
Adam said quickly and closed the door in front of her with a loud sound.
It took Charlie about 5 seconds to realize everything and quickly get up from his seat and quickly knock on the door.

- Adam, please open the door!!! We still have 20 minutes of time!! Sorry for yelling at you, please open the door and we'll finish the meeting! According to protocol, our meeting is not over yet!!!

But Adam didn’t give a damn about all the regulations, protocols and rules, he just wanted to quickly leave here and clear his head of unwanted memories.
Paradise. Courtroom
Adam stood in the center of the courtroom and had just sent Charlie and Vaggie to hell through a portal, all they could do was scream as the portal closed.

"No offense, princess"

Behind him stood the calm as always Lute and tearful Emily. Oh Emily... no matter how much it hurt him Emily had to resign herself and accept the simple truth - sinners cannot be redeemed, hell is forever and all this nonsense about redemption is nothing more than a stupid dream of a stupid princess of hell.

-Emily...

Adam wanted to somehow justify himself to her, to calm her down, so that she would stop crying, her tears... it hurt Adam... how could he calmly look at the tears of the one whom he treats like his own daughter.

- Emily, you must understand that there is simply no other option. You grew up not understanding and not seeing sin and evil, but you must already grow up and see the truth... when the sinners rose up, we were already looking for other ways to solve problems, but they simply do not exist...

-Demons, sinners and the fallens rebelled against heaven, all of hell rebelled against us and we looked for the most reasonable options to keep peace with them, but unfortunately there are simply no other options! They themselves are to blame for their fate!

Justifying himself, Adam began to slowly approach Emily.

- I just realized that for the common good I need to stain my hands with blood... I didn't want to! But this is my job and duty that I must fulfill for the safety of heaven. My duty is to protect the heavens and the souls of my descendants who came here, my duty is to ensure the safety of the victors and angels from demons, so that you and the others can exist in peace and tranquility, so that...

Adam tried to convince Emily in a soft voice that he was right, but before he could finish his words, she pushed him with all her might several meters away.

-I refuse to put up with this, I refuse to accept that there are no other options, because what you are doing is too cruel!!!

- You destroy thousands of human souls every year and you didn't even try to listen to them! This is real genocide!! Tell me if you have exterminated millions and billions of sinners over all these thousands of years and there is so much blood on your hands, then how are you better than these same sinners??? And the worst thing is that you are the one doing all this work! Why not someone else? Why should you shed so much blood?!?

Emily continued to cry tearfully, which is not surprising, she simply could not control her emotions.
These words hurt Adam, but he had to hold on steadfastly, because the huge courtroom was full of dozens of angels of different ranks, who rustled their wings, whispered and discussed them.

- Emily doesn't care how much you...

Suddenly Emily wiped away her tears and screamed:

-I refuse! I refuse to accept this injustice! I will find another way to help them!

Emily stormed out of the courtroom as fast as she could.

-Sir, are you okay?
She turned to Adam Lut, his faithful lieutenant and warrior.
You wouldn't notice it from her cold demeanor, but Lute was genuinely worried about her boss.

-she is, as always, too goal-oriented...

Adam muttered with fatherly tenderness, looking up to where Emily had flown off to.

- It's okay, she grew up in heaven all her life and doesn't really know what sin and evil are, she'll grow up and eventually understand everything.
It seemed that Emily's words hadn't particularly bothered him before, "so what if the kid gets angry, he'll calm down and stop."

-Are you sure sir?

There was a hint of doubt in Lute's voice. Lute was gentle with Emily and didn't mind, but she doubted that she would give up her plan to help the princess of hell and these vile sinners so easily.

-It's okay, it's just teenage rebellion haha
Adam said with a soft smile and nostalgia.

-Adam...

Suddenly they heard someone's firm and cold voice from above.
Looking up, Adam and Lute noticed three six-winged seraphim with their heads held high in the highest stands.
Sera stood in the center and looked at Adam with a look that only he could understand.
Adam nodded slowly to her, to which the main Seraphim only looked away.
To the left of Sera stood Ezekiel, one of the three supreme Seraphim.

-Looks like Lucifer's daughter loves to promote revolutionary ideas...just like her father. And the worst part is, it looks like she's already started helping one of us spark a rebellion!

Adam agreed with the first part of her words, the princess was a rebel who did not want to put up with the system. But in Adam's opinion, the princess could only bark loudly, but certainly not bite.

But when Ezekiel hinted at Emily and that she could also be dangerous as a rebel... Adam was once afraid of the Seraphim and did not dare to say anything against them... but if it came to Emily, he was not going to remain inactive.

- Emily is definitely not like that, she grew up just like human babies and grew up surrounded by human souls, she is sometimes very emotional and impulsive but she is definitely not a rebel, I guarantee you that Seraphim
Adam bowed respectfully, he had to speak at a calm pace and with respect, because if he started speaking in a raised voice with the higher-ups... let's say Ezekiel would consider him a rebel like Emily.

-But you yourself saw and heard everything, first man!! She not only questioned the council's decision, but also threatened to disobey the order!! This is real rebellion that must be stopped!!!

Ezekiel was the type of person that could be described as "an old and stuck-up bitch."

- I believe that any slightest hint of rebellion should be immediately destroyed, so that a fly does not turn into an elephant. We need to do everything like Belphegor did!
This time Ezekiel spoke louder and made all the whispering angels shut up.

Belphegor...remembering the stories about that fallen angel, panic began to grow inside Adam.

Belphegor was one of the fallen angels who were banished to the abyss of hell, but she was banished only because she openly criticized the decision of the council of angels, but at the same time she did not support the rebellion of Lucifer and Azazel, for which both sides of the civil war in heaven treated her as an outcast.

-But venerable Seraphim...she is only a child, I promise no rebellion, in a couple of hours I will put her in her place and Seraphim will return to service with joy!

Adam prayed in panic, trying to control himself and protect Emily from the wrath of the supreme angels.

"Oh my God Emily, if you only knew how much you're hurting yourself with these actions."

-Are you so confident in your words, first man?

This time, the third Seraphim to the right of Sera, Sandalphon, spoke up.

-such behavior is unacceptable for one of us, who will guarantee that the Seraphim of Joy will not follow the example of such fallen ones as Lucifer and Azazel? Who will give us any guarantees?

Lucifer and Azazel?
He knew of course that Sandalphon, like Ezekiel, could see traitors in anyone, but how could they compare Emily to AZAZEL?!? It wasn't for nothing that he was considered the worst among the leaders of the Fallen Rebellion, he was the one whose name was cursed on par with Lucifer's.

But now is not the time for this, Adam quickly calmed down and said

-Yes, venerable Seraphim, I can assure you all that Seraphim of Joy will not pose any threat, I promise that in just a couple of hours Emily will calm down and return to work!

-But...

Sandalfon wanted to object, which was already starting to irritate Adam, because he wanted to leave this building as quickly as possible.

- If the first man says so, it means he is confident in his words, don’t disappoint us Adam.

This time Sera decided to intervene and have her say. Both Seraphim around her immediately shut up because of her authority. The other angels on the council, in turn, decided not to pay much attention to the words of an angel who was only a couple of hundred years old and whose duties were only related to the joy of the victors.

"Thank God it's all over."

Adam was finally out of the courtroom and could wrap up his unfinished business.
