Aphrodite, Don't Forget Me.

Summary:

He truly is happy for David and Jack, and even Race and Spot, rival newsies making it work despite it all!
Imagine the secret late night conversations? The hushed whispers away from the others, their love all their own, that’s the level of romance Romeo craves.

Notes:

Yes I posted this once before and took it down so i could tweek it, enjoy.

Work Text:

Seeing his friends find a lifelong love in such an uncertain world for those boys filled Romeo with elation.

Romeos always loved the purity of love, the chorus of doves filling someone's chest as one lay eyes on their true love, David calls the tanned boy a cliche, Romeos not really sure why. Apparently there’s a character with his name in a famous story of love. He desperately wants to read it, Romeo wants to experience the joys of emotions through the pages, the (according to David) heartbreak that came from their families keeping them apart only to come together again.

David has offered to read it for Romeo several times but it’s the one thing he needs to read all on his own, eventually.
Yes, a silly love story. Not one of the more ‘important’ works that the men who spit at the newsies always go on about in their conversations. Not the bible, he doesn’t care how blasphemous he sounds, let god strike him down now if he’s upset with the love drunk boy.

Maybe that love story is how David and Jack were able to get together without fear of the newsies hating them.
Knowing that love conquers all, it has for centuries and it will continue for centuries after.

Is he full of himself for wanting to have a story where someone with his name finds a love that inspires the greatest artists years and years after? Maybe.

So is it a cliche that he secretly prays to Aphrodite and God before bed?
Praying every night for enough food for all the newsies and a true love in the same breath?
Is he horrible for holding those at the same weight in his heart?

He truly is happy for David and Jack, and even Race and Spot, rival newsies making it work despite it all!
Imagine the secret late night conversations? The hushed whispers away from the others, their love all their own, that’s the level of romance Romeo craves.

He is not one to yell at the Gods but he’s been waiting and praying for years!
He’s been in line for forever, just to have others budge in front.

It’s not fair and while he is happy for his friends, truly.
He can’t help but finish his prayers with a final thought.

“Aphrodite, don’t forget me.”
