Nobody New

Summary:

“You’re back.” He acknowledged as the figure entered his room with no prior warning.

Ellernate scoffs almost fondly, the dread never leaving the room. “I never left Trap. You made me, remember?”

—-

Or, iTrapped realllyyy can’t cope like a normal person and coded in a version of Ellernate to help him with his loss.

Work Text:

iTrapped laid on his bed, dread hanging around the air like it belonged there. As of recently iTrapped couldn't say it had been any other way.

A quiet step echoed throughout his room, a shadow of a figure staring from iTrappeds bedroom door.

iTrapped stared back at him knowingly.

“You’re back.” He acknowledged as the figure entered his room with no prior warning.

Ellernate scoffs almost fondly, the dread never leaving the room. “I never left Trap. You made me, remember?”

iTrapped didn’t respond, sitting up from his bed as he finally looked at ‘Ellernate’ properly.

iTrapped sighed at the sight. This figment of his best friend.
He reminded iTrapped of broken glass with only a handful of shards in place, never full.

“Is this how I remember you? How I recall the last time we saw each other?" iTrapped asked tiredly, almost even amused at his own creation.

(Is my soul damned to expect you around every corner?)

Silence hung around both of them, iTrapped doesn’t know what to make of it. Maybe it was the coding gathering the intel he implemented to generate a response.

He’s not sure anymore, of anything.

‘Ellernate’ looked around iTrappeds room absently.

“No, but you wish it was.  You wish that we finally got to kiss, and we finally had time to talk. About our future, our goals..” He replied, his voice faltering as he neared his end point.

This wasn’t anything iTrapped didn’t already know, but he wanted to forget once more.

So he did.

Itrapped hummed attentively. “Ah, I remember now. That isn’t what happened though, isnt it?”

Ellernate looked back at iTrapped in a cold gaze, nothing ever warm from him to begin with.

“you knew your actions had consequences, I’m sorry it had to end this way. For both of us.”

iTrapped swallowed the saliva building up in his mouth, recalling a time where this was the Ellernate he knew. Where this Ellernate actually held him, and laughed with him.

Instead of pushing him away in a fit of rage as he screamed to never want to see him again, with iTrapped sending text after text to him, Caleb, Vilicus…

A shuddering breath escaped iTrappeds mouth.

“you were so full of anger Nate, I’m so sorry I caused it all.” iTrapped said tearily, a hitch of his breath being the final straw as tears started to pour down his cheeks, staining the white sheets of his bed.

Ellernates eyes softened, almost like the real thing. “I'm not the one you want to apologize to. I’m not even real.”

“All I am is in here—” Ellernate walks up beside iTrappeds bedside and taps at his temple.

“—and here.” He says as he gently lays a hand on itrappeds heart.

iTrapped eyes Ellernates transparent body, his hollow form now being more obvious up close like this.

(up close, like how it used to be.)

iTrapped looks at the copy as his tears blurred his vision. “God, you hurt just as much as the real thing. Maybe I am going fucking crazy.”

Ellernate didn’t deem him with a response, the both of them knowing that was the truth of it all.

Ellernate glided his hand over the remote on top of iTrappeds night stand.

“Do you remember what happens on Sundays?” He quizzically asked, clearly knowing the answer.

“Caleb would always hog the tv remote.” iTrapped answered automatically, humoring the other.

Ellernate nodded fondly. “I got so fucking annoyed at him, because he’d always choose the low budget films that sound like they’ve voiced it over on a ghost box.”

Itrapped laughed tearily. “God he’s such a dick, leaving us to watch the whole movie as he went out to spare himself.” He said as he wiped his tears with his sleeves.

Ellernate stayed silent as itrappeds tears lessened, nostalgia hitting the both of them like bricks.

Though really, only one of them was actually feeling.

“You know you have to fix this.” Ellernate said calmly.

iTrapped stayed silent for a while.  The thought of what he could possibly do to fix something like this lost to him at the moment.

“I know. It’s all my mind can think about, other than… Making up programmed ghosts of my friends to comfort my mentally fucked up head, I suppose.” iTrapped responded, his dread obvious with every word.

“Caleb would laugh at you for that.”

Itrapped snickered. “Yeah he would, that dick.”

A warning window pops up in front of him, then.

‘ [VIRUS DETECTED] {initiating ANTIVIRUS software…} ‘

Ellernate already knew what was going to happen.

“Don’t make me again, Isaac. This isn’t healthy in any possible way.” Ellernate said firmly, tabs of code already deeming him unrecognizable from the torso down.

“Nate, I..” iTrapped began, his voice wavering with emotion.

Ellernate visibly tensed, causing iTrapped to falter.
Don’t. Don’t tell me that. I’m not the right one to hear those words.”

Silence passed between them, the words sinking into iTrappeds very core. Reminding him that this Ellernate isn’t real

And now he was losing this one too.

iTrapped looked at Ellernate sadly. “…Will I get worse?” He asked, troubled with the thoughts of ‘what if?’ That swam in his head.

Ellernate laughed dimly. “…Maybe. Better not start drinking or killing people though, that’d be dumb.” He joked in response, the last lines of code already infiltrating Nate's face.

Ellernate stared into iTrappeds sad gaze with his own resigned look.

“Don’t do anything stupid this time. I mean it. I may not be him but… I’m putting my trust in you.”

iTrapped gaped at the other, tears welling up in his eyes once more as Ellernate graced him with one last smile before disappearing completely.

‘ [ANTIVIRUS COMPLETE] {We have removed one virus.} ‘

…Damn roblox for their safety protocols. For their stupid tech support being so shit. Damn them for taking away the only comfort he’s known since they’ve been gone.

Damn them for taking them away from iTrapped.

Damn it all.

iTrappeds phone buzzed as a message was sent out to him.

iTrapped eyed the message through the newfound tears in his eyes, his gaze steeling over with newfound determination.

He failed them both once, not again.

Not this time around.

Another notification rang out from iTrappeds phone.

iTrapped eyed it in a reserved way, not really caring to hear the news.

Yet, in a burst of resolve, iTrapped found himself replying.

You • now

What time?
sent just now

Notes:

Title inspired by Nobody New by The Marías! It fits them in this story to an extent so you should check the song out if you haven’t already.

Ah also for an explanation on the Virus detection, Ellernates code lookalike was built into Roblox’s code, and they tend to do Maintenance sometimes (though the time they delete anomalies is just as shit as their customer service)

When this happens iTrapped usually just… Codes in another lookalike. But this Ellernates words stuck with him, so this is the last duplicate he’ll make of Ellernate.
