Chapter 1: Rough day, huh?

Chapter Text

Nanami’s day was getting worse by the second, it seemed. His job was currently having issues with a lack of employees, meaning that the ones they had were overworked until they found some other poor soul to offload work onto. This meant that Kento’s workdays included a few extra hours of unpaid work at his desk, giving him no time to prepare to move out of his flat. Now, all he was running on was no sleep and just a cup of instant coffee because he was packing his things all night. At least Nanami had chosen an affordable new apartment; a small one bedroom, one bathroom flat with a decent sized kitchen/dining room area.

Said flat’s door was currently wide open due to two reasons: the first is that despite the scent-neutralising sprays that the landlord had used, Kento could still smell the remainders of the previous occupant(s), so he just wanted to air out the space properly before settling. The second purpose for the door being open was that Nanami had to get stuff from his car every few minutes, so it was easier to just leave it open. But the wind made the door sway on its hinges with uncertainty, and just as he had put a foot through the door it slammed onto his face. He saw it coming, but he was preoccupied with holding a box stacked to the brim with books he hadn’t really got round to reading (yet).

He hesitated at the threshold of the flat for a second to restrain his irritation then entered for the thousandth time that day. ‘ At least it didn’t make a loud noise ’ Nanami thought as he shouldered his way past the door with irritation. He placed the (frankly quite heavy) box down beside the sofa, rolled his shoulders back to ease the ache, and made his way back out that forsaken door to get his final two boxes of belongings. As he was on his was down to the carpark, he passed a man that could only be described as refined- even with just a small glance. The scent that brushed by him was only what Kento could describe as an enigma seeing as he had never smelt anything like it.

The boxes left for Kento to move into his flat were, thankfully, relatively smaller than other ones he had already taken which meant he could carry both at the same time with some ease. Despite this fact, a pink-haired boy that seemed to be teenager age came up to his side and asked if he needed some help. The sheer joy and puppy energy radiating off him was almost touchable. Usually, Nanami would be put on edge by someone talking to him with no warning, but he couldn’t find it in himself to do so.

Are you alright with those boxes, Sir? I’m going up that way too and I can help bring some of the weight off you! ”

Later while eating a ready-meal, Nanami would blame his following actions on his tiredness and his requirement for efficiency and speed.

That’d be quite helpful actually, would you take the one off of the top please? ”

The young boy smiled and flashed his teeth while reaching his arms up to take the box from the stack of two. As he did so, he told the older man that his name was Itadori and asked for Nanami’s after. The response from said man was quite dry but the teen continued chatting to the man walking next to him and not waiting for responses from him. When the two got to Nanami’s floor, Itadori put the box back on top of the one the blond was holding and went on to scale the stairs after a brief goodbye. Once again, Kento was left alone to face his swinging door again and luckily had no issues pushing it open. He put the boxes down next to sofa again and went to shut the door properly.

It felt like the couch almost hugged him when he sat down after tiring himself out from physical work with no sleep or food. But a knock at his door woke him from his almost slumber and re-ignited the irritation that Itadori had accidentally put out.

What would anyone even want with me?” mumbled the man so desperately trying to keep his heavy eyelids open and not die from exhaustion on the spot. As he opened the door even a tiny bit, his nose and tongue got assaulted with two distinct smells but both equally as dense and potentially addicting, and it certainly woke him up enough to pay attention to the people standing before him.

Alright neighbour!?” A tall, slender man with platinum hair called out to Nanami despite there being only a few feet between them. This man was LONG he realised, and Kento isn’t even a small man himself as his mother’s side has always had taller omegas. This height was insane though- Nanami had to tilt his head considerably to even make eye contact with the creature guy. He could tell that he was being spoken to, but Nanami just couldn't concentrate what with his lack of sleep and the overpowering nature of the two people in front of him.

Speaking of two people, the second person was that one he walked past in the stairwell with an impressive air about him. Then he spoke. Oh, he spoke words and with a voice that just fit him incredibly well. Once again, the blond probably should’ve been listening intently, but he just couldn’t stop looking between these two men that were breath-taking on their own, but together... Kento just couldn’t look away. Luckily, he caught the end of the black-haired man's sentence.

-nted to see if we could help in any way, at any point. We saw you moved in next door to us and just wanted to be nice people” and then flashed a slight grin and tilted his head a bit. Kento just had to look away from his face and so he could only look at the other man... who was also smiling in a stupid and endearing way. He felt like a deer in headlights from all the smells and visuals coupled with his sleep-deprived mind and slipped into an almost trance-like state. At his front door. In front of two strangers.

"Thank you for the offer, but I must unpack my stuff. I hope you understand." Nanami offered a facial expression that was close to an apologetic smile and closed the door without waiting for a response.

Yeah. Not a good day for Nanami Kento.

Notes:

I was listening to the Minecraft music playlist on yt and I've genuinely never gotten so much work done in one sitting, so I definitely recommend if you want to do lots of work at once! When I started this, I just wanted to write an GoNanaGe fanfic but had no clue what to even make the plot, so I had a little think and two words came to mind: neighbours!!! and omegaverse... so here you go! I think I'm writing this fic bc I've always wanted a gf that lived across from my house cuz that'd be super neat. I also tried to make my writing not as colloquial as it usually is (even as I'm writing this I'm getting red lines under words that aren't americanised) I think it's still readable to an American audience though....
