Chapter Text
Two alphas in a relationship was something unthinkable and even considered gross by society. Lan Wangji knew about it very much, but he still… He still couldn’t stop loving Wei Wuxian.
It wasn’t hard to fall in love with that guy. He was always so cheerful, always looking straight into Lan Wangji’s eyes while talking and he was always nearby. Lan Wangji didn’t even notice the moment when he became so comfortable around someone and didn’t mind someone’s presence. At some point he started craving Wei Wuxian, his voice, his laugh and his everything.
If Wei Wuxian ever let him, he would gladly start calling him his Wei Ying.
“Holy crap, this shit is just overcomplicated!” Wei Wuxian shouted, hitting the books with his forehead.
“You’re overreacting.” Jin Zixuan said firmly, flipping the page.
“Why do I need this whole theory? Translating stuff is not so complicated!”
“Understanding deep culture is key.” Lan Wangji explained softly, pushing a bottle of water towards Wei Wuxian. “It helps with correct translation.”
“I know! I know that, just…” He sighed deeply and reached for the bottle. “Why do we even need to take the test from the theory? It’s so obvious, can’t we just translate something for real?”
“Well, if it’s so obvious, why can’t you just pass it?” Jin Zixuan grinned.
“Oh, shut up! Remind me, why did I even agree to study with you in particular?”
Lan Wangji chuckled internally, seeing how frustrated Wei Wuxian was. He was always so emotional and would change his expression every second. Lan Wangji was simply fascinated with his face’s look.
“Okay, so…” Wei Wuxian pointed at something in the book and was about to ask a question when the ring of his phone interrupted. “Huh?”
Lan Wangji observed, totally not staring, how Wei Wuxian reached for the phone and opened the message. His brows furrowed, then his eyes widened slightly and he bit his lower lip. It was the face he would do whenever he had to think intensively about something.
“Did something happen?” Lan Wangji asked, seeing how deep in thoughts Wei Wuxian was.
“Nah, not really.” He sighed. “But I guess I need to look for a place to sleep tonight.”
“Don’t you live with Jiang Wanyin?” Jin Zixuan looked at him confused.
“Yeah, exactly.” Wei Wuxian clicked his tongue. “He’s in rut, it’s better to leave him alone for the first night.”
“Pff, you can’t handle another alpha’s rut?” Jin Zixuan asked with disbelieve. “Come on, what is he gonna do?”
“That’s not your problem to think about.” Wei Wuxian growled, his gaze suddenly serious and angry. “First night is just the worst, I’ll come back home tomorrow.”
“Where are you going to stay?” Lan Wangji asked, full of worries. Hearing that someone’s rut was too much to handle wasn’t a surprise for him, he himself would act uncontrollably every time he got his rut.
“I dunno yet.” Wei Wuxian shrugged. “I’ll look for a motel maybe.”
“Well, good luck with that.”
“Oh, thanks Jin Zixuan, at least I know how you care about me.” Wei Wuxian snorted, but Jin Zixuan just rolled his eyes on him.
Lan Wangji looked at his book, but couldn’t focus on the text. Letters started changing their positions, the invisible foundation of deep culture mixed with roots of behaviour and everything became just one useless bunch of words. Wei Wuxian was definitely homeless for that one night and he could at least suggest letting him stay at his place. But wouldn’t it be weird? Wei Ying always was so independent, didn’t need anyone’s help with anything except studies. Wouldn’t introducing him for the night be considered deviation? Wouldn’t Wei Wuxian think about him as some pervert?
Or was Lan Wangji just overthinking stuff? Thinking about Wei Wuxian in his apartment at night made his blood rush and his ears started aching with warmness. It’s not like he would try to do anything to Wei Ying, but…
Lan Wangji took a deep, slow breath and exhaled carefully. He should focus on studying.
“Okay, I’ve got enough.” Wei Wuxian suddenly closed his book and gathered his notes. “I need to start searching for a place to sleep now and buy some things. See ya all tomorrow.”
“Yeah, good luck surviving.” Jin Zixuan didn’t even look in his direction.
“Sure, whatever.” Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes at him. “Bye, Lan Zhan.” He smiled, turned around and left.
Lan Wangji took a while staring in the direction Wei Wuxian went, thinking intensively. In the end, he also started gathering his things.
“Are you also going?” Jin Zixuan looked at him confused.
“Yes, I have something to attend to.”
Technically it wasn’t a lie, Lan Wangji thought. He had just decided to go after Wei Ying, so he really had something to do.
“Yeah. Sure.” Jin Zixuan crooked his face.
“Goodbye, Jin Zixuan.” Lan Wangji stood up, but the guy only waved at him and went back to reading.
When Lan Wangji couldn’t be seen by Jin Zixuan anymore, he started running. He still could see the silhouette of Wei Wuxian, but with every second it became smaller and smaller. It looked as if he almost reached the bus stop.
Lan Wangji fastened his run, holding firmly his bag full of books and letting his hair blow in the wind. He bumped into someone a few times and quickly apologized, too focused on his goal to care.
“Wei Ying!” He shouted, seeing the bus arriving. “Wei Ying!”
Wei Wuxian turned his head towards the sound of his voice and raised his brows in surprise. His lips parted slightly, forming the shape of the letter “O”.
“Lan Zhan, what are you doing?” He asked, when Lan Wangji stopped next to him. His heart was pounding and his breath was unsteady. “Were you running?”
“Yes.” Lan Wangji wiped some saliva from the corner of his mouth and fixed his gaze on Wei Wuxian. “Wei Ying, have you already found a place to sleep?”
“No. No, not yet.” Wei Wuxian answered with a smile. Whenever they talked it was as if a smile was dancing on Wei Ying’s lips, never letting him appear unhappy. “Why?”
“Then stay at my apartment.” Lan Wangji blurted out in a single breath.
“Pardon?”
“You wouldn’t need to pay for the night.” Lan Wangji started reasoning his proposition. “And I live close to the campus.”
“I mean… yeah…” Wei Wuxian looked puzzled. “But wouldn’t I be a burden to you?”
“No, not at all.” Lan Wangji shook his head. “You can stay for as long as you want.” In an instant he realized the words he said and the blush covered his ears and neck. “I mean, if Jiang Wanyin’s rut would be too much to handle, then…”
“Okay, okay, I get it.” Wei Wuxian laughed. “But Lan Zhan, are you really sure about that idea?”
“I am.” He clenched his fists harder on the bag’s belt. “Don’t worry, you won’t be a burden.”
Wei Wuxian looked as if he was thinking something through, but after a few seconds passed, he grinned widely and nodded.
“That would be great.”
“Really?” Lan Wangji’s eyes widened.
“Why are you the one looking surprised?” Wei Wuxian chuckled. “I’m really glad for your help, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Wangji couldn’t find any words that he would use, so he gave him a little smile. Then, he noticed that Wei Wuxian had only his bag with him and wondered.
“Don’t you need to go back home and take some things?”
“Oh, well…” He slid fingers through his hair. “I should but… That’s not a good idea, really.”
Lan Wangji nodded, understanding. “Then, do you want to go shopping first? You’d need a brush at least.”
“That’s what I was planning to do at the beginning.” Wei Wuxian admitted. “Which shop is the closest to your place?”
~*~
“So, I got a toothbrush and deodorant. Are you sure I shouldn’t buy a T-shirt to sleep in and a hairbrush?”
“I’ll lend you something to sleep in.” Lan Wangji confirmed, putting an onion into their cart.
“Aya, Lan Zhan, but what if I leave my smell on your things?”
“I do not mind.”
In reality, he really wanted Wei Wuxian to leave his smell everywhere in his apartment. Actually, he wished to at least smell a bit of his beloved. He didn’t know what kind of rut suppressant Wei Wuxian was taking, but they must have been very strong if they even blocked his smell so well, Lan Wangji couldn’t smell him no matter how close he was.
“You’re so weird, Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian snorted friendly, helping with choosing tomatoes.
“What about suppressants?” Lan Wangji asked, ignoring the comment.
“I’ve got mine with me, so it’s not a problem.”
“Really?” Lan Wangji looked at him with the corners of his eyes.
“Yeah, I need to take them twice a day anyway, so it’s convenient to bring them around.” Wei Wuxian shrugged. “Do we need any other veggies?”
“Red lentil.”
Lan Wangji followed Wei Wuxian’s back while searching for the next ingredient. How strong were this man’s ruts? Never had he ever heard about suppressants that would require to be taken more than once. Lan Wangji felt a sudden urge to see Wei Ying experiencing his rut, being vulnerable and wild. He would of course help him throughout if the man let him, he would stay with him, made sure to feed him and satisfy his any need. And maybe, just maybe, he would fuck Wei Wuxian thoughtfully, making him moan his name in any possible scale. His ears started flaming with blush once again.
“Lan Zhan, which do you prefer?” Wei Wuxian showed him a chocolate cake with extra decorations in one hand and a lemon pie in another. “Or should I look for something else?”
“I’m not sure.” Lan Wangji knitted his brows, thinking. “I’ve never tried either of them.”
“Really? Then let’s take the lemon pie.” Wei Wuxian put the chocolate cake back in the fridge. “Next time my shijie makes her chocolate cake I’ll bring you some, it’s the best.”
“You don’t have to.”
“Aya, Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian waved his hand. “She always makes so much food, it’s impossible to eat, otherwise…” The smile froze on his lips.
Lan Wangji followed his gaze and on the opposite side of the alley he saw a pair choosing baby clothes. The omega girl was visibly pregnant, her belly nicely rounded under her clothes, she was petting it with her free hand. The other woman was smiling warmly and showing her a tiny blue T-shirt. They looked so in love together it was hard not to stare for at least a few seconds.
Lan Wangji’s eyes went back to Wei Wuxian. This was the face he was afraid to see. Whenever Wei Ying saw a pregnant omega his gaze would become sorrowful and depressed, his smile would disappear, leaving an emotionless thin line. It was so obvious Wei Wuxian was craving for babies and that was the only thing Lan Wangji couldn’t give him. Two alphas would never have a child together, but just looking at this face full of misery would make his heart ache. He truly wanted to hug him, press him against his chest and kiss his hair soothingly.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji said softly, drawing Wei Wuxian’s attention to him. “We’ve got everything, let’s go.”
“Yeah…” He nodded a few times. “Let’s go.”
But before leaving the alley, his gaze went a few more times into the pregnant omega’s direction and when Lan Wangji didn’t watch, a lonely tear left Wei Wuxian’s eye.
~*~
“Lan Zhan, the bathroom is free!” Wei Wuxian sang cheerfully, entering the living room. He was wearing Lan Wangji’s T-shirt and shorts, the clothes were much bigger for him and baggy, revealing his collar bone.
Lan Wangji sized up his guest and swallowed nervously. He only imagined how Wei Wuxian would look in his clothes in his wildest dreams, but seeing him right there and then was such an extreme experience, he had to run away with his gaze before he would need to hide his crotch for the rest of the evening.
“Did you leave your clothes in the basket?” He asked, focusing on the pot full of vegetable stew.
“Yep, I did. But Lan Zhan~” Wei Wuxian leaned over the counter and smiled at Lan Wangji. “You know I can do the laundry without your help?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Lan Wangji answered, clearing his throat.
“I just don’t wanna be a burden to you, Lan Zhan!”
“You’re not.”
Lan Wangji took two plates and reached for a ladle in order to serve the food. Wei Wuxian inhaled the smell of vegetables and made a dreamy face.
“Wow, Lan Zhan, it smells so good. I didn’t know you could actually cook, ya know?”
“I live on my own, of course I can.”
“See, I also don’t live with my foster parents anymore, but my shijie still tells me not to touch any pots.” He chuckled. “She says I might kill someone with my cooking skills.”
Lan Wangji shook his head, amused.
“It can’t be that bad.”
“I dunno, mostly I eat what I cook.” He shrugged. “But it never smelled as good as whatever you just made.”
“I would gladly try Wei Ying’s cooking one day.” Lan Wangji mumbled, his ears red.
“Really?” Wei Wuxian jerked his head up.
“I mean it.”
Lan Wangji put the plates on the table and invited Wei Wuxian to sit with him. Wei Ying sprawled in the chair and reached for the chopsticks, playing with them in the air.
“You know, Lan Zhan, I’m really grateful you let me sleep here today. Thank you.”
“There’s no need to thank me.” Lan Wangji answered between bites. “We’re friends, I’m sure you’d do the same for me.”
“Friends, huh?” Wei Wuxian asked mysteriously, but it didn’t look as if he was expecting any answer. He quickly shoved some food into his mouth and let out a long moan. “Lan Zhan, it’s amazing! Mmmmm!”
Lan Wangji’s hand stopped in the middle of the way to his mouth. He swallowed saliva and glanced at Wei Wuxian’s face full of pleasure. Would he do a similar face while cumming? Would his moans be as sweet when taking his cock?
“It’s just some vegetables.” Lan Wangji mumbled, shooing away his fantasies.
“But I didn’t know they could taste so divine!” Wei Wuxian grabbed another portion with chopsticks and consumed it greedily. “It’s wonderful, really!”
“I’m… I’m glad you like it…” Lan Wangji said, feeling cold sweat gathering on his forehead. Inviting Wei Wuxian over might become the worst torture he had ever experienced.
“Oh, by the way, Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian quickly finished the last bite and wiped his face with a napkin. “I can sleep on the sofa.”
“You’re a guest, you should be comfortable.” Lan Wangji protested, putting away his chopsticks.
“And the sofa would be completely comfortable for me. You don’t have to give me your bed.”
“I insist.”
Lan Wangji stood up and started cleaning up after the meal, avoiding Wei Wuxian’s gaze. Of course he wanted his guest to feel as comfortable as possible, but he had one more hidden motive. Even after Wei Wuxian took a bath, he still couldn’t smell his smell anywhere. Lan Wangji really hoped that the man would leave some smell in the duvet and the bed after one night, even the faint one would be okay.
“But it’s your bed, wouldn’t you be uncomfortable on the sofa?”
“It’s fine.”
“I usually go to sleep very late in the night, what if I would need to use the bathroom or drink some water? I don’t want to wake you up, Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian pressed further.
“It’s fine!” Lan Wangji growled suddenly, releasing his alpha pheromones uncontrollably. He froze instantly, shaken and shocked by his lack of control.
“Eh? Lan Zhan, are you okay?” Wei Wuxian asked, worried. He stood up and approached the man. “I didn’t offend you, did I?”
Lan Wangji glanced carefully at his guest. Did he smell the pheromones? It was only a small portion, but clearly enough for the other party to notice. His heart was pounding fast, what did Wei Wuxian think? Releasing pheromones around other alpha like that? Pheromones that were supposed to be used on mated omegas only?
“Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian crooked his head in a question.
“It’s… It’s okay.” He answered with a shaking voice.
“You’re acting weird all of the sudden, are you sure everything’s okay? If I’m a burden, I can leave, really, it’s not a prob-”
“Stop calling yourself a burden.” Lan Wangji shook his head, covering his eyes with one hand. His body felt hot all of the sudden and it was almost as if he was in a pre-rut. “I’m fine, just a bit tired, that’s all.”
“Oh, okay…” Wei Wuxian’s soft voice was full of relief. “I can help you with some stuff then, you know? Or, em… maybe…”
“I’m going to take a shower, you make yourself at home.” Lan Wangji decided.
“S…Sure…”
Lan Wangji quickly left Wei Wuxian alone and closed himself in the bathroom. There, he leaned over the door and exhaled deeply, sitting on the floor. It looked like Wei Wuxian didn’t notice his pheromones. Or maybe he was just a gentleman and decided to ignore it. Whichever thing it was, Lan Wangji was grateful the man reacted this way.
He focused on his body. He was sweating, his blood rushed in his veins and he could hear its screaming in his ears. What’s more important, he was so hard, his cock started aching.
Still sitting on the floor, he noticed the basket with Wei Wuxian’s dirty clothes and swallowed nervously. Of course he could try to ignore his need and try to think about something else, find a way to just act normal for the rest of the evening, but he was already at the edge of his nerves and couldn’t think about anything else but Wei Wuxian in too big clothes, his smile, his still wet hair after the bath just Wei Wuxian in his apartment.
Lan Wangji reached for the basket, swallowed the feeling of guilt and grabbed the T-shirt. He then covered his nose with it and inhaled deeply. There was a very faint, almost unnoticeable smell of something sweet and… spicy? Lan Wangji couldn’t tell what the smell was, but it fitted his Wei Ying so well. He one handed unzipped his pants and took out his hard cock. There was one last call in his head, screaming that what he’s doing is inappropriate and disgusting and he should stop immediately, but he told those thoughts to shut up and stroked his dick while inhaling Wei Wuxian’s smell.
Lan Wangji stuffed his mouth with the fabric to prevent any uncontrollable sound from leaving them and played with his cock’s top. There was already precum dripping down and he smeared it along the whole length, feeling a slowly forming knot at the base. Rubbing with his thumb and silencing himself with his left hand he let his imagination go wild. He dreamed about naked Wei Wuxian in his bed, imagined how he would part his legs and admire his hole. He would rail him hard, filling him with his cum over and over until Wei Ying would be too weak to even sit down without any help. It didn’t matter if they both were alphas, he would treat him well and take care of him properly.
Lan Wangji stroked himself firmly and steady thinking about Wei Ying, his beautiful Wei Ying, his sweet voice and his slim waist. He inhaled the smell once again, regretting the fact that it was so faint. He wished Wei Ying didn’t take such strong suppressants.
He came with another inhale, splashing his cum on the floor and all over his hand and pants. He breathed heavily, spitting out the fabric of the T-shirt. Lan Wangji looked at it with a feeling of guilt and disgust over himself. For a split second he imagined it would have been Wei Ying between his legs, covered with his cum and smiling playfully.
Lan Wangji stood up slowly, undressed himself and put all the dirty clothes in the laundry machine together with a laundry capsule. Trying hard not to think about what he just did and ignoring his still fully erected cock with a full knot, he entered the shower and let the water run.
It was almost another thirty minutes before Lan Wangji finally left the bathroom and found Wei Wuxian lying down on the sofa and playing with his phone.
“Welcome back, Lan Zhan.” He smiled cheerfully. “I washed the dishes.”
“You didn’t have to, Wei Ying.”
“Aya, let me at least help a bit. Otherwise I’ll feel guilty for using you, hahaha.”
A sudden knot of guilt formed somewhere in Lan Wangji’s abdomen and squeezed his guts.
“Ridiculous.” He blurted out.
“So, are you sure I can use your bedroom?” Wei Wuxian asked carefully. “I really don’t want to wake you up suddenly in the middle of the night.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“If you say so.” Wei Wuxian shrugged and got up. “I’ve got work in the morning, so don’t be surprised if I won’t be around when you wake up.”
“I usually wake up pretty early too.” Lan Wangji said, following Wei Wuxian’s steps to the bedroom.
“Oh, really? Then maybe we’ll see each other in the morning.” He gave him a sweet smile before stopping on the threshold. “Good night, Lan Zhan. See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow, Wei Ying.”
After Wei Wuxian closed himself in the bedroom, Lan Wangji doublechecked the front door and the cooker before finally lying down on the sofa. He could smell some of the smell of his own shower gel, but knowing the faint smell of Wei Wuxian, he was able to recognize a delicate sweet note that wasn’t present in his apartment before. He fell asleep with a smile on his face, knowing that the one he loved was nearby.
~*~
Waking up with the sunrise, Lan Wangji didn’t expect to be in an empty apartment. As Wei Wuxian had told him, he had disappeared early in the morning, leaving everything cleaned up.
On the kitchen counter there was a piece of lemon pie and tortilla wrap waiting for Lan Wangji with a little note.
Thank you for letting me stay overnight. See you in the class!
~Wei Ying
Lan Wangji smiled and grabbed the food, ready to taste Wei Wuxian’s cooking skills. The second bite sent shivers down his spine, making him almost puke at instant. He didn’t know what Wei Wuxian had put inside the tortilla and how he made it so spicy, but it tasted awful and Lan Wangji barely could swallow the piece. He wiped the tears that gathered in the corner of his eyes and took another bite. He didn’t expect the first meal made by his beloved to be so… special, yet he savoured every piece of it, until there was nothing left.
