Work Text:

Now, Two Time was one of the.. few survivors who hadn’t quite touched their given phone after the group found them. They hadn’t had one before this point, and found them quite.. distracting. (If the times they had snuck up on Chance and watched the other person play some gambling game or watch those things called.. Shorts(?) were anything to go off of.) Alas, Noob had asked so very kindly for Two Time to do so in return after they had watched over them as they prayed one night. (Guest 1337 had insisted that.. For safety reasons, having at least one other person with you at all times was best.) So here they are.

For starters, they tapped every icon on the screen, opening every app at once, by pure accident. ... And then they closed them all by accident, too. ... Perhaps they are a little.. Out of touch when it comes to electronics. They had never found a need for them prior, given that they were.. As fulfilled as necessary previously.

Eventually, they tap on the messenger app, after exploring the settings for awhile. To find that they were added to a groupchat named 'survivalists' by Guest 1337. (The man had been the one to give them the phone after they refused one, so they're not surprised.) ... Well they think it's the groupchat that Noob mentioned when they were asked to look at their phone. ("Y-you should, uh, check our groupchat! Yeah!")

They tapped on the icon, and then they immediately tap the top bar as well, finding that everyone on the survivor's side is in the groupchat... And C00lkidd, too. They try to tap out of the list, and end up closing the app before reopening it to get back to the main chat. (Perhaps they shall request Noob's assistance on learning the device. .. She's the only survivor who isn't scared of them, too.)

Notification Get!: > C00l3stK1dd! sent you a DM.

Curious, Two Time taps the notification, opening the chat with the child.

> C00l3stK1dd!: Tw0 T1m3! [CoolestKidd!: Two Time!]

Pl4y 8-B4ll w1th m3! N0 0n3 3ls3 w1ll! [Play 8-Ball with me! No one else will!]
C00l3stK1dd has started a game of 8-ball!

> Two-Time: Alright, I shall play this game ‘8-Ball’ with you. Might I ask how it is played?

They simply send in return, not quite sure what the proper etiquette it would be to respond to a direct message. (Ah.. That must be what DM stands for. Hm..) C00lKidd takes a.. decent amount of time to respond, before sending a new message.

> C00l3stK1dd!: 1t’s 8-B4ll! Ch4nc3 c4lls 1t p00l! [CoolestKidd!: It’s 8-Ball! Chance calls it Pool!]

D0 u srsly n0t kn0 8-B4ll???? [Do you seriously not know 8-Ball????]

Pl4y 1t!!! [Play it!!!]

Ur turn!!!

> Two-Time: Alright? I shall figure out the rules and hows as I play. It seems you believe this to be a basic game, and as Chance knows it as well, I’ll ask them for assistance if need be. Thank you for reaching out to me to play this game with you. May the Spawn bless you.

They send, faintly grinning, despite a familliar voice creeping into the back of their mind, reminding them not to attempt to bring children into believing in the Spawn. (He’d called them too impressionable, and later difficult to keep in the belief. ... Alas, he’s not here anymore to properly tell them off. Besides, they’re only giving blessings!)

> C00l3stK1dd!: Thx Mx. Tw0 t1m3!!!! 1ll t3ll P4P4 ur b31n n1c3 2 m3!!! [CoolestKidd!: Thanks Mx. Two Time!!!! I’ll tell Papa you’re being nice to me!!!]

M4yb3 h3 c4n h4v3 u pl4y t4g 4g41n w1th m3!! [Maybe he can have you play tag again with me!!!]

ur fun 2 pl4y w1th bc u t4g b4ck!!! [You’re fun to play with because you tag back!!]

> Two-Time: Thank you for the compliment, C00lKidd, though I don’t exactly know what you mean by playing tag. There’s no need to send any compliments of me to your father, either. It’s only right to be kind to a child.

> C00l3stK1dd!: n0! 1m n0t 0nly a k1dd! [CoolestKidd!: No! I’m not only a kid!]

1m b1g t00!! [I’m big too!!]

Two Time stares at the message for a moment, before they tap on the 8-Ball game and attempt to.. play it. They do manage to make the.. stick(?) hit the white ball, but nothing comes of it, and they’re not given another chance to try again. .. Perhaps that is why none of the others play this game with C00lKidd. They then tap away from the DM, and head to the groupchat to skim it. (They will properly read through every message later on, as is polite to do so, but for the present moment, they’re going to need to hurry to the bottom to make sure that they can respond to anything sent recently.)

----

Noob has been.. nervous since she saw Two Time properly get online. (.. And C00lkidd right after.) They had requested for the other to check out the groupchat, after all, and it seems they did, even if they didn’t say anything. He really wanted to connect everyone, even if Chance is the only one who doesn’t seem to be.. afraid of Two Time. (They’re uncertain of that fact, but Chance allows Two Time near more than the others. [.. Maybe Chance just has a good poker face..?])

... Even still, Noob decides to actually.. Inform the groupchat of what they asked of the other, after sitting with them in silence the other night. (Two Time had called that a prayer, but Noob didn’t even hear a word out of their mouth. Maybe they were just that quiet..?) Even still, they tap out a message into the groupchat.

>N00bie: BTW!!!

i uh asked two time to check out the groupchat!!

idk when they’ll say anything tho, haha

oh and! next match is soon

They send the messages quickly, before realizing their screen name has changed.. Again. Seems C00lkidd had gone in and changed them all to be ‘cooler’ again. Not that they mind, it’s merely been an ongoing battle between the kidd, Guest 1337, and Builderman to keep them the way they were and to keep them being ‘cooler’. It’s not much of a fight, given the kidd can hack, and Builderman is rarely online. Guest may have admin in the chat, but he’s also not as online until after the final ‘Match’ of the day. (.. And somehow, C00lkidd is almost always online.)

> P1zz4P1zz4!: alright! good to know

see you all next match, i think!

and c00lkidd please stop changing our names

> C00l3stK1dd!: n0! [No!]

> D4d: I think the names are nice.

> P1zz4P1zz4!: you’re biased

we all aren’t

besides he changes your name to dad every time. part of the bias

> D4d: you’re also biased

> n00bie: .. please stop fighting???

They sigh and drop their phone into their lap. They didn’t.. mean to start another fight between those two. Though, it was inevitable, after all. They fought far too often over small things, and Noob doesn’t really like it when they do. Especially since it makes the already there tensions within the cabin rise to a higher level. Instead of dwelling on it, though, they decide to go see if any of the others need any help before the next match.

----

> C00l3stK1dd!: y0u suck 4t 8-B4ll [CoolestKidd!: You suck at 8-Ball]

> Two-Time: My apologies. I’m new to the game. May the Spawn guide me in learning to properly play it to your standards, C00lkidd.

> C00l3stK1dd!: y0ur 4ls0 4 w3ird0 [CoolestKidd!: You’re also a weirdo.]

Two Time blinks down at their phone screen. They’re well aware that they’re “weird” in the standards of the others. For the most part, they’ve only ever tried to do well by the Spawn, which included living up to their standards. Standards, it seems, that aren’t common elsewhere. It doesn’t help that they’re also quite technology illiterate, as well, as seen by both their lack of use of their own phone, and the fact they.. Still don’t quite understand how 007n7’s ‘gui’ works. (Is that what it is called? They’re still unsure.) Though, this hasn’t really bothered them, as the Spawn never saw technology as much of anything.

They do have some curiousity, as there must be a reason that the others are often hooked to the devices, using them in lieu of in person communication. (They can only think that it is best for private conversations, though the groupchat is proving that part wrong. They don’t even use the devices during matches, either, when it would be best to do so.) They shake their thoughts away, and move to respond to C00lkidd.

> Two-Time: Why thank you for informing me of such, C00lkidd. I’m well aware that I’m considered ‘weird’ by most of you all, though I doubt I will change my manner of speaking and doing things, for I am merely following the example set by the Spawn, and intend to do right by them.

> C00l3stK1dd!: 0k4y??? [CoolestKidd!: Okay???]

ur st1ll v3ry w31rd [You’re still very weird]

4nd ur n4m3 1s b0r1ng [And your name is boring.]

> Tw0-T1m3: May I inquire to how my name is boring?

Ah. Did you change it’s appearance based to your standards? I cannot say that I am not surprised, though I’m curious as to why you’ve done so. You have merely replaced the letters of my name with letters.

> C00l3stK1dd!: 1t’s c00l3r!  [CoolestKidd!: It’s cooler!]

> Tw0-T1m3: I see. I shall keep that in mind, though I do not see the practical use of spelling in this manner. Even so, I won’t change it back, as I rarely use my device, and going through the motions of changing it feels as though it will be a losing battle.

> C00l3stK1dd!: 0k4y! y0u 4nd d4d 4r3 th3 0nly 0n3s wh0 w0nt ch4nge ur n4m3s. [CoolestKidd!: Okay! You and Dad are the only ones who won’t change your names.]

> Tw0-T1m3: Your Father? I can’t say I know who that is, though I’m unsurprised he won’t change his name from what you changed it to. That is part of his role as a Father, as I would assume.

Two Time blinks, as they’re left with only a checkmark by their message, though they set their phone into their pocket. The next round is soon, and they spin their dagger in their hands. Based on the rotation, it’s either going to be C00lkidd they’re up against, or a new killer, if there is one. (It’s been some time since the last one, so they’re making the assumption that the new one will be soon. Especially given the fact that they have all spent a decent amount of time with the current ones they already know.)

They continue to mess with their dagger, as they wait for the time to tick down, glancing at the timer every so often, out of the corner of their eye. For some odd reason, it feels as though the time is going slower, and they feel.. On edge. Perhaps, it’s the idea of a new killer, but they’re absolutely certain that it can’t be. ... Right? Back when meeting the other killers for the first time, they never felt this.. foreboding presence.

... Unless.. No. It’s impossible. The Spawn didn’t bring him back before they were all brought here, and they doubt that it would have after they were, either. It’d already been over a year or two.. Right? Besides, if it was him, how would he have become a killer? They can’t think of anything that might of come over their dear Azure, except for perhaps something akin to John Doe’s corruption. But even then, that’s just grasping at straws. (They don’t even know what the corruption that affects that other killer even is . They merely know that he has the tendency to fling them and the other survivors when attacking.)

“Two Time...?”

Two Time looks up, and over at the person who entered their cabin. “What is it, Chance?” They say simply, as the gambler merely grins back. (Behind their glasses, their eyes are darting everywhere so he doesn’t look the other in the eyes.)

“We’re meetin’ up before the next round, ‘cause C00lkidd let it slip that we’re dealin’ with a new killer. You’re free to join.” He says, as they lean against the door frame, still trying to not look Two Time in the eyes. (The glasses help, but.. Looking them in the eyes just feels.. unsettling. And offputting.)

Two Time blinks. They’re rarely offered a place in the group like this, as they’re well aware that most of the others dislike them, or at least find them odd. (They’ve merely not seen what the Spawn can do for them, after all! Of course they’re weirded out, they’re not enlightened quite yet!) “I’ll have to decline my friend. As it is a new killer, I’ll be praying to Spawn that we succeed. Would you like for me to include you in the prayer?”

“.. Ah, no, there’s ah- no need! I’ve got Lady Luck on m’side, after all! She’s got my back.”

And with that, Chance leaves, letting Two Time alone in their little nook of the cabin. Builderman had installed doors in most of the openings, to allow for a sembalance of privacy once everyone had claimed a spot, and Two Time was eternally grateful. It was difficult to properly pray prior to the admin’s quick thinking, as there was always some conversation going on, and they couldn’t get their daily prayers in. (Only the nightly ones, where they went out to the water’s edge to pray towards where they assume the outside world is.)

The round’s start comes soon after Chance leaves, and Two Time finds themself exhaling, before they start their ritual to bring themselves back. As the spawl symbol curls itself into the ground and softly glows, a series of plants writhe themselves over the spot, which is.. confusing, but they decide that it’s unimportant. Perhaps the new killer has control over plants and noticed that they had stabbed into the ground.

Instead, they turn away and head to find one of the others. .. Sure, they aren’t quite all that liked, but they’ve found that during rounds they have more than enough energy to be around the others without being looked at oddly. Especially during rounds where they successfully stun the killer multiple times, as that somehow makes them.. look at Two Time as if they were a normal person. (... They don’t quite understand why, but it reminds them of a simpler time, where everyone had done so. Including a certain someone.)

They eventually find Noob and Guest 1337, standing together and just.. talking.

“Oh! Two Time-!” Noob says, her voice almost frantic as they grab Two Time’s hands, not even afraid to touch them, for once. They go to say something more, but Guest ends up cutting in before he can.

“The Killer’s searching for you specifically. They seem to have.. A vendetta against you specifically.”

Two Time blinks. Perhaps it’s someone wronged by the Spawn. It can’t be him, after all. The scene replays itself in their mind, and they squeeze Noob’s hands a bit tighter. “... It must be someone who was wronged by the Spawn. As someone who carries their words to others through Prayer, then that must explain it.” They try to brush off, though they’re certain of who it is now.

... The plants that had overtaken their spawnpoint were Nightshade, after all. A specific strain that they know of as Azure’s absolute favorite. Two Time drops Noob’s hands, and then they bring their grin back to their face. “Shall I accompany you two for the remainder of the match?”

“That would be preferable.” Guest nods once. “Noob and I were just planning to search for you, anyhow, to warn you of the killer’s intentions.”

“I’m ever so grateful.” Two Time turns towards Guest, and mimics his nod. “There’s usually a generator nearby, yes? Shall we convene there?”

“That.. works!” Noob says, their voice lightening. They do enjoy fixing the generators, after all, as they aren’t much of.. an asset otherwise. .. And the puzzles are fun, too! Especially since they’re very easy now, as they’ve memorized the placement of some of the colors.

The trio make their way over, Two Time in the middle. They’re not intending to stay, only attempting to have distracted these two. ... Perhaps they should stay away, but the allure of seeing Azure again, with the Spawn having brought him back.. It’s too much. (Admittedly, they had missed him. They still often hear his voice, warning them against doing many things.) Once Noob is on the generator, and Guest’s turned away from one of the windows, they crouch, bringing them to a far lower visibility. And then they launch themselves through the open window and outside, landing softly on the ground. (... They’ve had to learn to be.. very agile, with how John Doe’s tendencies are.)

As they straighten up and look around, they find that it’s very easy to see where Azure is. Or perhaps.. That’s just them. They’re always drawn to the plants that were his favourite, and they find themself.. Simply walking towards the direction he’s in. A glance to the side, where they can just barely see some sort of directory to the others, only Chance is dead, and it’s likely due to their flintlock exploding on him, again.

Two Time is.. slow and careful in their steps, stepping over the overgrown branches that are still moving organically, and between broken walls. (It seems that the plants’ overgrowth is quite the.. powerhouse.) As they walk, the air they’re breathing becomes far more humid, and at times they find themself struggling to breathe. And still, they push on. Coming face to face with Azure is.. both relieving and hurtful. The nature-like tentacles that sprout from their back is especially hard to look at. But they still push forward, coming face to face with him again.

“Oh, Azure! I knew that the Spa-” Two Time cannot scream.

They can’t move.

Their chest hurts.

Is this how he felt? But he agreed. He knew what they were doing.

They don’t fight it, just vaguely grabbing at the tentacle through their chest. It looks like a vine.

It doesn’t feel like one, though.

Blood bubbles up through their mouth. They should be long dead.

It hurts, so very badly. Another tentacle pierces their dagger hand, and the offending blade clutters to the ground.

Moments later, they wake up in the cabin, laid on the ground. Directly in front of the fire place.

... The warmth is nice, especially after the coldness they were given by their own past. (Past.. Yes. That’s the best way to explain him.)

...

...

“You aight?” Chance asks after a long moment, from where he was laid over the sofa, spinning a coin in his hands.

“Why, yes I am, dear Chance!”

“.. ‘Kay..? Just sayin’, your death was kindda brutal.”

“I am quite fine, actually. Thank the Spawn that there is no lingering pain.”

“.. Sure.” Chance shakes their head and flips the coin, catching it in an open palm.

Two Time watches the action, before turning to the fire place. Oh, how nice it felt to see Azure again!
