Work Text:

“Is the little lady finally asleep?”

Alex stretched in her bed, giving a quick glance at her wife when she walked into their bedroom.

“She seems to be,” Kelly replied. “She had a nightmare.”

Alex sat up. “About what?”

Kelly shrugged. “Something about a monster. She insisted that I look under the bed and in the closet to make sure there were no monsters in her bedroom.”

“That’s adorable. Can you do the same for me? I’m afraid there might be a monster in our closet.”

Kelly scoffed. “Oh, trust me. You do not want to see the skeletons hiding in our closet.”

Alex let out a soft chuckle at that. Right, this was supposed to be a “joke”... Kelly wasn’t supposed to have any skeletons hiding in her closet.

“Well, at least it’s not your unassumed homosexuality hiding in there,” Alex added.

“Haha, nope. Haven’t been there for a long time.”

Was Alex even born yet when she realized she was gay?

“Well, I sure am glad there are no monsters in Lilah’s bedroom,” Alex yawned, lying back in bed.

There were no monsters in their daughter’s bedroom, but there was one in their house. Asleep, deep within Kelly’s being. And that beast must remain buried there for as long as her flesh and bones live.

“Yeah, I’m glad too,” Kelly slipped under the bedsheets, lying next to her wife.

Alex stretched her arm to turn off the light while Kelly closed the distance between them. She wrapped an arm around Alex’s shoulder, gently stroking her arm. Alex hummed softly at that contact while Kelly pressed her lips on the back of her neck.

“Kelly…”

“Hm?”

“I’m tired.”

“Oh… long day at work?”

“Mhm…” Alex brushed Kelly’s arm. “But I like it when you hold me like that.”

Alright then. No sex tonight either. But it was fine. After all, she didn’t get with Alex out of lustful desire, but out of duty.

Or rather, out of guilt.

She did come to like Alex. Kelly was fond of the woman who was now her wife (and the mother of her child). She wouldn’t say she was “unhappy” in her married life. Sure, there wasn’t as much sex as she would want, but again, that was besides the point.

It wasn’t always like that, though. Alex used to have quite the libido, in fact. Even Kelly had trouble keeping up back then, even if she was, as her wife likes to call her, a “horndog”.

Things changed after they had Leilah. Kelly wondered if it was the pregnancy that affected Alex. Or perhaps it was simply having to take care of a baby that didn’t leave them much free time. But even now that Leilah was older, their sex life just wasn’t the same anymore.

But once again, this was fine. It wasn’t like they never had sex anymore. This relationship was always about what Alex wanted anyway. Kelly was there to answer her needs.

“Kelly” was born to take care of Alex.

But damn, she sure was a bit horny right now. She could hear Alex softly snoring. She was asleep. Kelly snuggled against her, slipping a hand into her own pants, softly stroking her pussy while reminiscing about a different time. Back when she and Alex had started dating, when they had their first time together.

Back when she still viewed herself as Melissa.

Melissa had been on a few dates with Alex so far. After years of simply watching her from afar, to make sure she was okay, the two actually met one day. Melissa never intended to start that kind of relationship with Alex. Part of her knew it would be wrong, given the circumstances. She knew she should have tried harder not to let this happen, but alas… she really wanted to be loved. And Alex wanted to love her. How could she refuse her? She couldn’t honor Hannah’s request to give her daughter the tape, so the least she could do was make Alex happy. And if Alex wanted her, then so be it.

Wasn’t being with Alex the best way to ensure she was okay anyway?

After one of their dates, things escalated. They had a few drinks, then Alex invited her to her dorm room back on her college campus.

“My roommate is on vacation,” she had said coyly.

Melissa might be described as naive, but she wasn’t stupid. She understood damn well the implication. If she had been a better person, then perhaps she would have refused.

But damn, she was so lonely, so horny, and a bit too tipsy for her own good. And gosh, Alex was so hot. Beautiful dark hair, deep brown eyes, exactly her type. She grew up to be quite the beauty, just like her mother.

Fuck. This wasn’t what Melissa wanted to think about while making out with Alex, who was now lying on top of her in her bed back in her dorm room. She didn’t want to think about the tragic fate poor Hannah suffered, her involvement in this, and the fact that she was lying to Alex about who she truly was. Alex might be an adult now, old enough to drink, Melissa remembered when she was only a teenager. Heck, the first time she heard about Alex’s existence, she was only 10 years old. Melissa was close to being a decade older than her- she was pushing 30 now.

Alex suddenly broke the kiss and looked at her, concerned. “Kelly? Is everything okay?”

Right. “Kelly” was her name now. It always felt strange to hear people call her that. In her mind, she was still Melissa. But in a way, she was grateful Alex wasn’t calling her by her real name. It helped her distance herself from who she was, from the person who knew her mother. At least this way, she could pretend that this was “normal”. Kelly wasn’t Melissa. Kelly didn’t know Hannah. And Kelly never knew Alex when she was still a minor. Kelly met her as an adult, and they were just two adult women with a reasonable age gap who happened to like each other. Totally normal and not weird.

“I’m fine,” Melissa said, trying to sound nonchalant. “Just a little bit light-headed. Must be the alcohol.”

Alex smirked. “I might have something to raise your blood pressure then.”

Melissa raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

While still straddling Melissa’s waist, Alex suddenly grabbed the hem of her t-shirt and lifted it, before tossing it away.

Melissa’s eyes were wide open. That definitely did send a rush of blood somewhere . Even with her bra covering them, Melissa could tell Alex had nice tits. Might feel a bit small in her hands, but then again, Melissa had large hands. Most boobs felt smaller than they were when she cupped them… except maybe for Gen, because damn, hers were huge .

Right. Gen . Another person Melissa didn’t want to be thinking about, especially not right now. Sometimes, when she looked at Alex, she was reminded of her dead best friend. They did look similar, both in appearance and even a little in personality. Being with Alex sometimes reminded her of the time she spent with Gen, and she couldn’t help but think that perhaps, if she hadn’t died, she would have had this kind of relationship with her instead.

“Like what you see?” Alex cheekily said.

Melissa realized she must have been staring. She tried her best to smile, hands now on Alex’s waist.

“Yeah, my blood pressure definitely got higher.”

Alex bent down a little, hands on Melissa’s shirt. “May I?”

Melissa grinned. “Knock yourself out.”

“How generous of you.”

Alex started fidgeting with the buttons of Melissa’s shirt, slowly unbuttoning it. Then, with much less restraint, she opened it wide, revealing Melissa’s sports bra. But it wasn’t what Alex seemed to be focused on.

“Whoa. How did you get that ?”

 Huh?

Oh. Right. Fuck.

It wasn’t that Melissa forgot about the scar. But she had it for over a decade now, it was just part of her everyday appearance. And in the rare times she had been intimate with someone, they mostly either didn’t notice (because it was too dark or she was still partially clothed), or they simply didn’t comment on it. The few times when someone asked about it, Melissa had been in a better headspace that she could have come up with a quick lie- usually something about a car crash.

But with Alex, she simply froze. She hadn’t thought about that night in a while. The night she got that scar. The night when everything changed for her. When she started to question her relationship with Shauna.

Fuck. Now was definitely not the time to think about her .

“Kelly…? Is everything okay?” Alex suddenly asked, with some concern in her voice. “Shit. Sorry, that was rude to ask, huh? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to…”

Great. Now Alex was worried about her. That wasn’t good. She couldn’t burden her that way.

“N-No, I’m fine, it’s just… my ex-”

Melissa instantly paused. Why did she say that? That was definitely going to make things worse!

Alex stared at her for a moment. “Did… your ex do that to you?”

Welp, this wasn’t good. Melissa tried to rectify what she had said, but somehow, made this worse.

“I got shot.”

“Your ex shot you!?”

Oh my God, can she just stop making things worse? Melissa was struggling to figure out how she could fix this.

Well, technically, Shauna did shoot at her. So it wouldn’t be necessarily a lie to go there, right? Not that could tell the whole truth of what happened.

“Not exactly… that was an arrow. And… huh…”

“An arrow? Like, you got shot with a bow…?”

Sure. Why not.

“Y-Yeah… at a ranch. My ex, she… she wasn’t great.”

That sure was an understatement. But she really couldn’t go into detail, and quite frankly, she’d rather not think about that- about her .

“Fuck, I… I’m sorry. I didn’t know…”

“It’s fine… this happened years ago. I’m over it.”

Part of Melissa wished that it would put off Alex. That she’d think she was someone with too much “baggage” to be a suitable partner. Unfortunately for her, that didn’t seem to be the case. Alex lay down next to her, their body still touching. Then, gently, she stroked Melissa’s scar with her fingertips.

“We don’t have to do anything if you don’t feel like it,” Alex said. “We could just stay like that, maybe even cuddle. Whatever you want.”

Whatever she wanted? What did she want, exactly? What did Melissa want?

A dead woman shouldn’t want anything.

Melissa closed the distance between her and Alex. “I want what you want.”

She was a dead woman. Melissa died on that plane, and the person who came back from the wilderness was no longer her. She hasn’t been Melissa for almost a decade now.

Alex gently cupped her face. “I want you, Kelly.”

Melissa was dead, but Kelly was alive. She was Kelly now. And if this was what Alex wanted, then so be it. This would be what Kelly existed for.

She answered Alex’s request with a kiss before suddenly climbing on top of her.

“I want you too, Alex.”

Alex smiled, then kissed her back. Melissa Kelly softly squeezed Alex’s thigh, slowly going up until she reached the hem of her pants, before slipping her hand inside…

When she emerged from her sleep, Kelly was still snuggling against Alex, a hand down her own pants. Did she fall asleep while touching herself? Wow, maybe she really was starting to get old…

She felt Alex’s body shift, followed by a yawn.

“Good morning,” Kelly said softly. “Did you sleep well?”

Alex stretched out and turned around. “Mhm. I had a nice dream. It was about you.”

“Oh? Well, that’s good. I guess it’s better than dreaming about a monster.”

Alex chuckled at that, then gave her a chaste kiss. “I wouldn’t mind if the monster were you. But you know, the sexy kind of monster.”

Oh, if only Alex knew. Thankfully for her, the “monster” was long gone, buried deep inside the person Kelly chose to become. For Alex’s sake. And now, for their daughter’s sake, too.

“I should go check on Leilah,” Alex suddenly said. “Just to make sure the monster hasn’t eaten her during the night.”

That one stung a bit, but Kelly was good at keeping the facade. Alex would never be able to guess that she married an ex-cannibal.

“Good idea. I’ll go make breakfast in the meantime,” Kelly declared.

Alex gave her another quick kiss on the lips before getting out of bed. Kelly stayed in bed for a few more minutes before getting up too.

Time to make sure her family was well-fed.

Notes:

I'm surprised by how few Melissa/Alex fics there are, given Alex is her canon wife. But I guess it makes sense, since we don't know much about Alex. Hopefully we will in s4.
