His Human Legacy

Summary:

He had no need for an heir. He was his own legacy.
He had no need for a child. He hated them, their crying, their sobbing, their stupidity, their uselessness.
But he wanted infinity and he needed more than an army for that. More than a loyal lieutenant, though she was exactly what he required to make his intentions reality. He needed a body lasting more than a lifetime.
Children had this neat little trait of being replaceable. But not his. They were an extension of what he was. They had to be perfect. And Lord Voldemort would ensure that they were.

Fourth book and prequel to Birds of a Feather. Mostly canon-compliant. Covers the time between April 1954 and 2nd May 1998.

Chapter 1: Foreword IV

Chapter Text

“I am the past that has never been, I am the future that will never be.”

Welcome to the, so far, shortest of the books of my series and the odd one out! This started out actually as part of the third book and not its own installment. For the longest, I wrote this as a kind of compilation of “between-chapter” chapters, that’d tell the backstory to “Birds of a Feather” and focus, well, on Delphini and Morrigan’s parents, Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. Shortly before finishing the chapters, I started to feel uncomfortable in the way the story read — I had the feeling that, as “between-chapters”, this story did not really get its own focus, it was cramped in, it disturbed the flow of the main story…plainly said, the composition was foul. So I added a few chapters and made this story its own piece.

It can be very well read on its own, independent of the “Birds of a Feather” series. The only bigger surprise and deviation from canon you’ll find I already spoilered (hint: It’s Morrigan. XD), otherwise, you don’t need the series to understand a single thing.

The notes about the other books ring true to this story as well: I don’t write character bashing, nope. I’ll tag all warnings that apply to the book overall, but in case a specific chapter includes some specific triggers, I’ll put warnings in front of that chapter, too.

And believe me — this book is full of triggers. The rating’s there for a reason.

I’ll tag every character that appears at least twice and every pairing that is official within the story. All canon sources remain the same  — Cursed Child is canon to me and that’s the hill I’ll die on, thankyouverymuch. English is still not my first language.

I’ll post a new chapter whenever I find the time to properly do so and I’ll alternate between posting a chapter for this book, and the third book. I apologize that the chapters here are a bit shorter than my usual standard, but I found that, when all words are used to describe an event, no more are needed, simple.

Again, this is a fanfic. I’m writing this for my own amusement and satisfaction. Be gentle with criticism. Enjoy it. Speculate and discuss.
