Chapter Text
Rumi slept, she was vaguely aware that she wasn't fully asleep, aware enough of the sunlight that basqued through the windows, gently warming her exposed skin as she lay naked, the thin sheet barely covering one of her legs. A cool breeze blew across her as her she dreamt of the events that had taken place over the night and earliest hours of the morning.
She saw his face as they stood in the dark backstreet, his features illumated by the moonlight. The way he looked at her, like she gave him hope to finally be free, before his lips opened to speak.
'Rumi are you fucking stupid?'
It was Jinu's lips that had moved, but not his voice that had come out.
'What?' She was full of confusion before the sudden jarring realisation that the voice wasn't a dream.
Her eyes snapped open, blurry at first but there it was, a figure at the end of the bed. Rumi sat up,panicked. She grabbed the sheet and covered her naked body before her vision returned enough for her to make out that the figure at her bed was that of her Godmother, Celine.
She momentarily felt relived that it hadn't been Mira or Zoey, before realising that her Godmothers use of profanity was NOT a good sign.
Celine had asked Rumi if she was fucking stupid only a handful of times in Rumi's twenty three years of life. Each time after Rumi had indeed been, rather fucking stupid. Like the first time she'd gotten drunk as a teenager, a memory Rumi would trade her entire worth to bury.
'I swear to God, are you fucking stupid?'
'Umm-'
She stopped. Celines head was down and she was pinching tbe bridge of her nose, even though her hair was falling into her face Rumi could see she looked like she was ready to blow a fuse.
It was probably best she just shut up and let Celine chew her out over whatever it was she knew. She silently prayed that Celines appearance, pissed as hell with her was a sheer coincidence given what shed done in the last 12 hours, but Celines phone flying towards her face would not be answering her prayers.
It was all over social media, her and Jinu. Their late night meeting, him gently touching her face, her with her head on his chest, them staring into each other's eyes. Please don't be there, please don't be there, please dont-
A picture of them kissing.
They hadn't been as secretive in the night as she thought they had. At no point had she suspected someone had seen them together, much less photographed them together.
'Do you want to tell me why you were sneaking around with one of the Saja boys Rumi? Do you want to explain WHY there are pictures of you two together?'
No? Rumi thought to herself, putting the phone down, not wanting to look at the pictures that had lead into this.
'I'm sor-'
'Hes a demon!' Celine hissed, frustrated with her goddaughters reckless behaviour. 'He's a demon Rumi. Are. You. Fucking. Stupid?!'
Rumi knew that she had been stupid. He was a demon. But they'd both been so open and vulnerable with each other. Rumi was grateful in that moment with Celine ranting that Jinu had had the good fortune to leave her bed instead of falling asleep together, although she missed his touch as she'd drifted off into a post coital slumber.
She wanted to feel his fingers gently trace her patterns again, he was the only person who'd ever touched them without trying to cover them up.
Celine stared directly at Rumi, disappointment clearly painted on her face amongst her anger too.
'I've got Bobby running damage control. I'll get him to get you a morning after pill too. Get up, shower quickly and get dressed. I'll see you, Mira and Zoey in the living room'
'Celine we-' Rumi dropped off, she briefly thought about lying. Telling Celine that her and Jinu hadn't had sex, of course she wouldn't do that. But Celine had found her stark naked in the bed she'd been having sex with Jinu just a few hours prior. Celine wasnt stupid. What else would they have been doing? Playing cards?
'We used protection' she mumbled, knowing it wouldn't make Celine any less pissed off with her careless behaviour.
'Even so' Celine said sharply, turning to leave theÌ room 'we dont want to risk anymore accidents'
She left the young hunters bedroom and the door shut with a soft thud. Rumi tried to reassure herself that Celine meant they didnt want to risk any more scandals. Huntrix was on thin ice and last night's events had not helped in the slightest.
But it stung, because Rumi was well aware that she had been an accident. A mistake.
