barely able to open her eyes, nicole groans, turning over to her phone. it’s been ringing for the past two minutes, and she’s so close to chucking it out the window. just who the hell is calling her in the middle of the night? she checks who it was, and her heart drops. jecka was calling her, and nicole just knew that nothing good was going to come out of this.
“jecka, it’s two in the fucking morning, why the hell did you call me?”
“sorry, but i just couldn’t sleep,” jecka replied, her voice sounding… different. “i just wanted someone to talk to, and sometimes you don’t sleep at all, so i figured you’d be awake.”
nicole’s chest starts to ache. “well, i wasn’t, so i’m gonna go back to sleep-”
“i’m outside,” jecka cuts off, sounding desperate and needy. “i’m in my car, i’m ready to go.”
nicole wants to hang up, she wants to lay this rest and go back to sleep. she’s so, so tired, and it’s not worth her time or energy to go along with jecka’s stupid antics.
“...fine, just give me five minutes.” but nicole couldn’t possibly say no to her.
she quickly gets ready, already dreading every second of it all. nicole’s cold-hearted and blunt, and there is nobody in this world she cares more about than herself. all of that was true and still is, but not when it comes to jecka. with jecka, nicole actually has a heart that learned to love, and it has become the bane of her existence because unfortunately, jecka feels the same way.
if it was left as an unrequited love, nicole could easily get over it and move on. it might’ve taken a while, but it would’ve been done with. she didn’t need to think about it nor was she going to get her hopes up. nothing was ever going to come out of their relationship because jecka could never love her, and that was just how things were supposed to be.
“took you long enough,” jecka groused as nicole got into her car. she had that same bitchy look on her face, but nicole knew better. behind it all, there was love, and she despised it.
“oh, fuck off. if you weren’t such a persistent cunt, i would’ve gone right back to sleep.” nicole couldn’t let herself give in to it, she just couldn’t. she’ll lose it all, and she might lose jecka too.
“whore,” jecka spat out, needing to get the last word in. nicole just rolled her eyes as they began to drive off, watching as the streetlights blur into one another. the ride to wherever jecka was taking them was silent besides the faint music she was playing, and nicole was incredibly on edge. what does this mean? why was jecka doing this to her?
it wasn’t fair, it wasn’t fair at all. none of this was supposed to ever happen, and if nicole hadn’t moved a bunch of times, this wouldn’t have. jecka’s a great friend and all, and it’s nice to talk to someone who she can be a bitch with. but too much has fostered between them, and nicole can sense the love in jecka’s eyes when their gazes linger for a moment too long.
nicole peeks over at her, wondering where this all went wrong. love was never in her cards, and she would much rather die than devote her whole being to someone. she’s not that kind of person, and with how much of a whore her mom is, marriage just seems like a waste of time. nicole doesn’t believe in love, and it surely doesn’t exist for her to feel and know.
and yet, here she is, completely and utterly overwhelmed and encapsulated by it all. man, maybe she should just kill herself. at least then her feelings would die with her. if nicole wasn’t this far in, she might actually open the car door herself and jump out. neither of them were saying a word in fear of saying more than they meant to, so they kept quiet.
nicole wasn’t sure what was jecka’s reason for leaving the tension between them unsaid since she was pretty confrontational. she was too, but nicole would rather not speak it into existence. jecka’s gaze wandered, her fingers brushed against hers, she cuddled up to nicole every chance she got. she feels the same, but she won’t let herself. why is that?
maybe it was for the same reason nicole didn’t want to, but she didn’t bother asking. as nerve wracking as all this is, she just wanted to let this all die down. that’s what she hoped for at least, but nicole knew it wouldn’t go away so easily, not when she dreams about kissing jecka’s lips. she wonders what she tastes like and if she’ll have the heart to savor it.
nicole’s desperate for a bite, but it might come out more bloody than it will be beautiful.
-
“ok, we’re here,” jecka said, parking her car after an hour-long drive of pure silence. atop some random cliffside, they were way out of town, and the view was absolutely stunning. even at three in the morning, lights illuminated the city, matching the glimmers of light the night sky holds so perfectly. it’s normally so busy, but for once, it’s quiet, and it’s simply just breathtaking.
nicole wasn’t one to gawk or even care about these kinds of things, but she couldn’t deny just how spectacular the view was. for once, the city was quiet and calm, and she wished it was always like this. it was so peaceful, and she would never forget this sight. it just sucks that she has to share this memory with jecka. she’ll ruin this just like how she ruined nicole.
climbing up onto the hood of the car, jecka gestured for her to join her. reluctantly, nicole did, leaving some distance between them. knowing her though, she’d inevitably scoot in closer, needing jecka’s touch and warmth to survive. with only the sounds of nature filling the air, neither of them dared to say a word, a tense atmosphere suffocating them both.
the wind howled as leaves danced in its presence, singing a song nicole could only hope would be as beautiful as her and jecka. but of course, she knows better than that. it’s futile for her to wish for something as grand as love, and she’s sure jecka feels the same way. but as silence begins to overwhelm them, their eyes meet as if destiny had played a cruel part in all this.
nicole sighed. “why are we here, jecka? why the hell did you bring me here?”
“...i don’t know,” jecka answered, curling up into a ball. “i just didn’t want to be home, or, i guess, it’s more like i wanted to be with you… alone and away from everything.”
it’s so sweet, so sincere and honest, and nicole knows it will only kill her faster.
“oh,” is all she can say back, her heart growing heavier as she wishes for a deadly embrace. whether it be death itself or by jecka’s arms, nicole would welcome it with all that she is. she’s not sure how much more of this she can handle, and she doesn’t even want to.
“do you feel the same way, nicole? do you want to be with me too?”
nicole could end this with just one simple word and be done with this forever. she could betray both her heart and her best friend and move on. but even if she did, jecka would never believe her. nicole could spend her whole life denying it, but the second their eyes would meet, it wasn’t hard to see just how desperately in love with her she was.
“i don’t know,” nicole replied, tearing her eyes away. the more she gazed into jecka’s soul, the more she would fall. she’d never get back up, bound to jecka’s touch for all of eternity.
just then, she felt a hand reach for hers. “why can’t you be honest with me, nicole?”
it was jecka, of course it was. nicole knows the feel of her fingertips like her life depends on it.
like second nature, nicole leaned into the touch, her heart cursing her for falling into jecka’s trap. she’s done this too many times to act so naively, and yet, she didn’t dare remove herself for jecka’s grasp. she yearned for it endlessly, letting herself be played like a puppet in jecka’s little play. nicole knew what was happening, and yet, she stayed, and she always will.
just like she said they would, the once wide distance between them closed up, their thighs pressing up against each other. nobody knew they were here, only the moon and the stars that portrayed a love they wished they could have. they coexisted so peacefully, completely and utterly enamored with one another while still having their own space to grow.
nicole never once thought that she’d be jealous over a bunch of celestial figures. but she also never thought that she’d ever fall in love, so it seems like there’s a lot that didn’t go how she planned it to. jecka was all she ever wanted, their lips mere inches apart. nicole’s felt them once before, and it’s kept her trapped in this sadistic game that is love.
“well, look where being honest got us,” nicole murmured with spite before closing that distance. jecka’s just as soft as she remembers, and it also kills her twice as much as it did before. she slips her tongue into her mouth, tasting all of her before she loses it. nicole knows she can’t have this, she knows she wasn’t made for this. jecka was too good for her, all of this was.
as their lips stayed connected and their hearts beating as one, nicole knew that this wasn’t going to be the last time they were going to kiss. she’d feel jecka’s touch for the rest of her life whether that meant physically or emotionally. but no matter how many times they felt each other’s bodies, they were never going to address it. nicole wouldn’t let them at least.
if they actually said what they meant and truly felt everything they feel now, nicole was sure that it was not going to end well. wherever she chooses to go in life, she doesn’t doubt that jecka won’t be by her side. they’d be stuck together for as long as they live with late nights like these where their hands only know how to wander, not love.
maybe jecka does it with love, and nicole will just pretend like she can’t feel it.
but deep down, it’s all around her, the very blueprint of her body and soul.
it’s a feeling she knows all too well, but it’s a feeling she’ll give up to this city skyline with the moon casting shadows of their love.
it’s love, it always has been and always will be, but nicole would rather drown in a suffocating silence than even utter a single word spoken from her heart.
she knows it’s love, but jecka doesn’t need to know that.
