Chapter 1: Cross's 'very amazing' life

Chapter Text

*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

Waking up after only 3 hours of sleep is always such a pain, but training waits for no one, and I don't want to be punished by da- Doctor Gaster. It's 0400, and I can't even have a coffee because it's an addictive substance, or breakfast till everyone else is awake.

Heading to the training room is like clockwork; muscle memory helps, especially when I'm so tired. The room is quite bare, featuring only three dummies in a sandpit, along with two observation decks used for performance reviews and evaluations.

I never wanted this constant fatigue and dehumanization; I wanted a normal childhood while helping my friends be safe. To them, I have one purpose, and that's to be a weapon, not a person, something to command and order. My mission is to guard the two young princes Frisk and Chara, but what if I want more… I want to explore, adventure, and learn about life. Is it wrong to want more and want to feel more? Sigh, those are just thoughts and wishes that won't come true, just fantasies that were brutally disciplined out of me.

Looking at the clock, it's already 0600, and I've completed my routine anyway. Let's go see if I'm allowed breakfast today. Making 2 left and 3 right each takes 2 minutes of travel. I've arrived in the dining room since entry to the kitchen is prohibited, even just to pass through towards the dining room.

“Good morning, Sans” Papyrus states coldly as I tense up at the name Sans. He smirks.

“Good morning, Papyrus” Responding is just a play for the sake of formality; he's never cared about me or my morning after all, proving this by breaking my trust so many times and after the incident.

“The doctor has indicated that you are allowed breakfast.” Papyrus hands me a small bowl of oatmeal.

“Ah, I see, Thank You” Responding robotically

Quickly finished my meal and returned to my cell-like room. White walls, nothing of value, a singular desk with magic manuals, my dresser with 7 identical sets of clothing and lastly my bed as firm as sleeping on the floor. The rest of the day continues the same as always, patrolling and guarding just till 0100 in the morning.

Staring at the stars, I wonder if I will ever be free of this purpose of mine… I'm tired.

*BOOM*

Looking from the living room window at where the crash came from to identify any dangers approaching. Exhausted, almost stumbling around, I see a spaceship?! In the yard near the farthest corner west.

“Project-X status” a cold, deep voice commands behind me

Replying immediately, “An odd vehicle seems to have crashed near the far west corner, sir”

“Deal with it, X. It has interrupted the rest of all and my experiments” the doctor sneers and leaves

Okay, okay, you can do this cross; just a weird vehicle, spaceship-looking thing. It can't be a real spaceship, maybe an odd truck. Approaching the ship, blades ready. Gently nudging the door with my boot.

*Shrr*

The door slides open, and it's a mixture of colours that hit me first, taking a moment to adjust my eyesight. Dark gray metal walls with vibrant purple accents are protected by glass, and the floor is carpeted with a foam-like mat instead of woven carpet. Slowly making my way through, I find a dining room with one extremely large chair, a chair which you could lie on, a throne-like chair and a lounging couch, odd. Continuing the recon, passing the kitchen, I feel that someone or something is watching me. The more I look around, the more I realize this is literally a spaceship with galactic stuff I've never heard or seen before.

The feeling of being watched or observed is thicker the more time I spend in here, but I can’t help my curiosity. I've never seen something so different, vibrant and lived in. This spaceship could reach the stars, where the doctor's hands can't pull me back. I know this is selfish to want to leave, escape when I'm needed. Reaching the engine room? The equivalent of it? And it is so vibrant with dark purples and greens flowing into a centre core, I could watch it for hours, the swirls and beautiful illumination it brings.

Maybe I could sit here and rest a bit. Feeling sluggish from lack of sleep and proper nutrition, my socket closes very slowly, just watching the swirls purple, then green and repeats it's so pretty. The doctor wouldn't know I took a moment's rest. That sensation of peaceful slumber overtakes and welcomes me, and I can’t help but smile.
