“No grave can hold my body down.”

Work Text:

Sometimes Hotch wonders why he doesn’t retire while he's ahead. Today is one of those days.

He struggles against the padded restraints that hold down his head, arms, and legs, but to no avail. However, he does manage to catch a glimpse of the orbitoclasts, which makes sense for the unsub’s MO; he lobotomises his victims. That doesn’t put him at ease at all, but it's good to know that the profile the team where putting together was on track.

Hotch thinks back to the facts as the restraints make him sore. The victims are all male, mid-forties to fifties, and all were authority figures of some kind. This implies that the unsub feels like they are lacking socially. The violent nature of the attacks suggests that the unsub feels a vast amount of rage towards this group, as well as likely being male, but the method itself is what really has Hotch’s mind working overtime. The fact that it is an illegal and barbaric medical practice implies two things… one, that the unsub has medical knowledge and experience, and two, the unsub could be on the older side, possibly having practised such procedures before it was criminalised.

His mind wanders back to the feeling of padded medical restraints that itch and rub him in the worst way possible. He can feel a familiar ache in his lower back due to the way he is strapped down. Then his mind goes to Jack and his need to get back to his son; he can’t let him lose another parent to another serial killer.

Surprisingly light footsteps catch his attention, and he tries to turn his head but can’t with a sharp pain shooting down his spine. “So Supervisory Special Agent Hotchner, are you ready to cure that temper?”

The voice catches him off guard, not because the unsub knew his name, but because the unsub is female.
