Work Text:

His entire existence is warmth. Great is awake but doesn't want to open his eyes just yet. He's wrapped around another body, head resting on their chest, arm draped across their waist and his leg is thrown over and nestled between both of theirs. Blankets are pooled low at his back and the comforting weight of his cat is curled at his feet. He feels completely encompassed and safe, at peace in a way he's never able to obtain before. There's something magical and idyllic in this space, in this moment, and he isn't ready to break the spell.

He can feel the slow rise and fall of Tyme's chest as he breaths beneath him. The steady rhythm is both grounding and reassuring. Great knows that soon, they will have to leave their warm bed to begin their day. But even in this, there is peace. They move around each other with the ease of their now practiced routines. Sometimes, Great wonders how it is that he gets to have this. Sometimes, it almost doesn't feel real. Despite how their relationship began, despite everything they've been through, they somehow still ended up here, together.

Idly, Great wonders what time it is. He can tell through his closed eyes that the room is bright and the sun has long been up. He rarely wakes before Tyme's alarm as he's more inclined to laze in bed up until the last minute when he's forced to get up. They'd gone to bed some time in the early morning. Tyme had worked his shift at the hospital until midnight then he'd come home and made love to Great until they were both sweaty and sated, barely taking time to clean up before collapsing into each other's arms, exhausted.

When Great finally pries his eyes open to check the clock, his breath catches in his throat. 11:04. No. It can't be. His heart thumps heavily in his chest as dread pools in his stomach. They never were able to explain certain things, such as how he knew about their tent at the lake. Their near-death experiences have left physical and mental scars on both of them. Even now, it is months later and Great has an ever lingering anxiety that comes from being left alone in a room by himself.

He watches the clock on the wall, unblinking, scarcely breathing.

Tyme takes in a deep breath and Great feels arms come up to wrap around his waist. "Morning." Tyme mumbles, still only half awake. "What time is it?"

Great looks at the clock again just as the minute changes over and something in his chest unclenches. "11:05." He can feel Tyme's body freeze briefly underneath him before Tyme opens his eyes and leans down to place a sweet, lingering kiss against Great's forehead.

"We slept in late. I'm only on-call today, do you want to order breakfast and stay in bed a little longer?"

Great can't help but smile at that. He supposes it really doesn't matter whether they actually made it out or not, as long as Great gets to keep moments like these.
