Chapter Text
Twas All Hallows Eve, and all the dorms were quiet in the great Beacon Academy. All, save for one.
“EEEEE! It’s my birthday!” Ruby shouted as she squealed happily in her bed, Weiss and Blake waking up with twin groans. Ruby hopped out of her bed, stumbling slightly but righting herself before bounding over to the dresser, pulling out her normal clothes for the day and dashing into the bathroom.
“How does Yang deal with her?” Weiss groaned as she slumped back into her bed. Blake merely shrugged, stretching a bit as she got up. “Where is Yang anyway?” She muttered, scratching at her ears as she looked up at Yang’s bunk. The door opened then, the blonde coming in with an armfull of boxes and letters. “𝆔 Ruby, time to wake up𝆕” Yang sang happily before noticing her empty bunk. “Dang, normally she sleeps in today.”
“That’s because,” Ruby’s voice shouted from the bathroom before the door burst open, Ruby standing proudly in the entrance. “I already have a plan for today. We’re going out as a team tonight!” She exclaimed happily.
“I don’t recall agreeing to this.” Weiss’ muffled voice said through her pillow, the heiress lying face down as she tried to catch more sleep. “Weisss,” Ruby moaned as she walked up to the girl. “Come on, it’s my birthday, and the best holiday of the year!”
“Objectively.” Blake muttered as she began to brush her hair.
“Pleeease? I’ll buy you a ton of candy, or whatever it is that’ll convince you to join us.”
Weiss moaned into her pillow before flopping over and lifting her sleep mask. For a moment she just stared up at the bottom of the bed before her before letting out a sigh. “Fine.”
Ruby squealed in joy again, pulling Weiss in for a hug. “But I get to veto any costume ideas.”
“Deal!” Ruby shouted before zipping away. “Now ladies, let’s get ready, we need to grab some costumes before we hit the town tonight!”
“This place is never in the same location.” Yang said as she looked up to the sign for Spirit Holiday’s.
“You know, I honestly thought this place was just a myth.” Weiss said as they walked in. “Some kind of Valian Urban Legend.”
“Nope, hundred percent real.” Ruby said as she skipped off to the costume section. “Hmmmm, what to be this year…” she muttered as she perused the selections. Blake and Weiss began to wander as the sisters began to talk about ideas together.
“First time doing something like this Weiss?” Blake asked as she picked up a witch hat and raised an eyebrow.
“What of it?”
“Just asking, jeez.” Blake rolled her eyes as she walked away only to feel a tug on her arm. “Wait,”
Blake raised an eyebrow, her annoyance at Weiss’ attitude evident as she turned.
“I’m sorry, that was uncalled for. I’ll admit, I don’t like being out of the loop as it were for anything really, so my annoyance at myself for not really knowing what to do or where to start bled out onto you.”
Blake sighed but nodded. “I’m not gonna accept the apology, but I also get where you’re coming from.” She took a moment before asking “Do you…want some help figuring out a costume?”
“Please.” Weiss said with a small smile. “That would be lovely.”
“Presenting!” Ruby shouted before pulling the curtain of the changing room back and showing off her costume “Soldier Ruby!!!”
“Not bad sis,” Yang said. “I didn’t really think you could pull off yellow like that, but dang,” she said with a nod.
“It’s at least a bit more creative than yours.” Blake said as she emerged from another changing room donning a witch outfit “Though she isn’t wrong, yellow looks good on you Ruby.”
“Ehehe,” Ruby giggled sheepishly as she scratched her head. “Thanks guys.”
“No problem sis, now outta my way, I gotta model my duds!” Yang said excitedly, shoving past her sister and into the changing room.
“Dang, gotta say,” a familiar voice said from behind the group as Weiss made her way into the second room. “You look great!” Nora said as she and the rest of JNPR came up behind them.
“Oh, hey guys.” Ruby greeted. “You costume shopping too?”
“Yep!” The redhead said, popping the P as she held up a viking warrior costume. “Ren’s going as some kind of martial artist and Jaune’s got this homemade camp counselor thing from some comic series” Nora explained as she pointed at the boys as Ren picked up a pair of gloves and held them out to Jaune.
“What about Pyrrha?”
“No clue,” Nora said with a shrug before playfully glaring at the girl. “She’s been pretty tightlipped about it.”
“I just want it to be a surprise.” Pyrrha said as she blushed. Distracting the group, Yang came out wearing a biker outfit. “Huh, shows a bit more skin than I thought,” She said as she adjusted the skirt. Blake looked away with a hint of pink on her cheeks as she cleared her throat. “I think it might be a size too small.
“The only other size was an XXL, and I do not want to wear that.” Yang said with a sigh. “Guess it’s fine.”
“Can I say no to this one?” Weiss said as she nervously walked out of the changing room in a scientist costume trying to cover up the gap in her dress over her leg.
“Woo, you rock that!” Nora cried giving a playful shove to the heiress.
“Yeah, looks great!” Ruby said with a thumbs up.
“Really?”
“It looks good, truly.” Pyrrha said with a saccharine nod. Weiss preened at the compliments, nodding to herself. “Very well, this shall be my outfit.”
“Whoo! We’re all ready then!” Ruby said happily. “We’ve got a day to ourselves, and a party to get to tonight, let’s go!”
